Yes, a Sunday night sneak attack from Me Ancient to wrap up the weekend 👍 if I were stuck with that MRE the bbq sauce would barely be enough to help me choke that veggie patty down, I’ve had a veggie burger just once. I'm just old and when I was active duty, the Marine didn't tell the Marine Corps what menu he wanted. I think we did alright back then. Personal choice was, by and large, left out of the equation when we signed up to serve. That included food choices. I would argue that a military with too many personal choices cannot have the esprit de corps it needs to do what the military is supposed to do....break things and kill people - before they break your things and kill your people. That's all I'm saying. TFW
On the osmotic raisins it just describes the dehydration process. So the grapes are dried by either covering them in sugar in the drying process or having a sugar solution in the drying ovens so the osmosis process is used to accelarate the drying process. Since they dry a lot faster osmotic raisins are softer and plumper than convection oven only or sundried raisins.
I think someone like @HUKIT759 is way overreacting to the title, but as someone who probably agrees with you politically, please don't bring politics into your channel unnecessarily. I love your stories and experiences that you bring and I am definitely closer in age to ACE then yourself, so most of us have had that friend who went through a "no meat" stage, but I look at this meal as I would a "halal." We're all American's whether we agree on everything or not and we're closer together then not, despite what the media and the fringe of both sides would think. Love your channel, keep up the great work!
When I heard "vegetarian" I wrinkled my nose a bit, but that hamburger doesn't look bad at all. Anyway, I prefer a "real" hamburger on the grill, but I guess some people will have a reason not to eat meat, and even if they are in the army its their right to not eat it, even if I don´t understand it... Woke and anti woke are just excuses to label people in my humble opinion, divide to conquer like the Romans said. Excellent video, as always.
This is actually fake. I was in during 05 and 06. This meal never existed during this time. Clickbait. This is confirmed by his deconstruction of raisins.
I only Eat Veggi once and never again it was so disgusting i could only eat one piece of it and threw the rest away and i only did it because i wanted to make my GF happy but i later order a Burger
Veggie burgers can be really good as long as they are not pretending to be meat, like those silly "beyond meat" burgers, etc. My sister is a vegitarian and she gets delicious veggie burgers such as teriyaki flavour which is awesome. BBQ could be good too. I like a good hamburger same as the next guy, but veggie burgers are great if you eat them for what they are. Cheers from Canada.
After watching your videos for some time now, I was convinced to try a MRE. One of my military buddies gave me one of his (chili with beans) dated 2009. It had corn bread, pizza crackers and a few other tasty things. It was a fun experience and I’m glad I can finally say I’ve tried one after seeing your videos. My sister unfortunately can't eat meat anymore due to a rare side effect of having her gall bladder removed. I've tried some of her fake meat, you put some sauce on it and it's not bad. As you pointed out the taste and texture are close but not quite which for trying to be something it's not is actually impressive. Found this explanation of "osmotic" online..... "The main cause of perishability of fruits and vegetables are their high water content. To increase the shelf life of these fruits and vegetables many methods or combination of methods had been tried. Osmotic dehydration is one of the best and suitable method to increase the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. A veggie burger is just........................ ridiculous. Those little chip things looked good, here in Australia fries are called chips, hot chips, but you can buy those chips in the store here and they are called French Fries, they are nice and salty and oily and crunchy, nice as a kid. Love the pictures from Beirut. It's terrible, I didn't know EVERYTHING there was destroyed. They even shelled the mosques and everything. Must have been some fierce guerilla running battles there, terrible. Glad everything was pretty quiet there when you were there, but the abuse sounds terrible. You young fellas were well disciplined to not all run across there and give those little smart arses a nice slap. Good that old bloke gave them kids a hiding with his walking stick. Without all that barbeque sauce, you just know that patty just tastes like plastic. LOL that Maserati firing up. Sounded like the outboard motor of a boat
The idea of a vegetarian MRE disgusts you? It's a meal that doesn't contain meat, that is all. Are you disgusted by spaghetti with tomato sauce because it doesn't contain meat? Are you disgusted by rice and beans or lentil soup? That was ... unexpected. Even more unexpected was you eating this 20 year old stuff ;-).
No, the 'disgust' comes from having been in the field myself for weeks, not having a cooked meal, and pulling an MRE out of a box that doesn't even contain meat. For me, meat is an essential part of a good meal. My experience was that most of the Marines thought the same way. If someone else likes them, more power to them and I'll have someone I can trade with. We didn't have vegetarians in the Marine Corps when I was active duty. Wouldn't have been possible as every MRE had meat and once you were out in the field you had to eat the MREs........TFW
Are the MRE meals that you sample the same ones that troops use, by the same manufacturers? Or, are some manufactured for civilians? Just wondering..it doesn't make a lot of difference. I wouldn't mind stocking some for emergencies like tornadoes and power outages but I wouldn't have a clue where to start. So, instead I try to keep a supply of canned soup with meat and a butane burner with a case of butane. Canned soup is easily recyclable. I am wondering what other type of budget survival foods you might recommend.
I think what you are doing work fine. Easier to rotate the soup and food stuffs you normally eat into your regular meals than try to make MREs work. TFW
Nothing woke about a person - being vegetarian. Personal choice or religious reasons are absolutely fine. There were people moaning that soldiers were going soft years ago when they brought in the idea of different menus!
If I ever tried this, I do not remember , friend? Lets check it out. FRH'S, are more miss than hit, LOL. Scones are like Hash Browns, sound good, look like poop. The meal and components seem solid, if not actually appetizing. If I found this, I would try it at least once, to add to my list. Cool ration and review. Peace from Ky. John, AKA, Magnum. P.S., last post left me wondering, location? No answer if not wish to. Take care friend.
If the tea does not have lemon I would try mixing a bit of the lemon drink in the tea about a forth of a glass or so. The commercial veggie burgers are a lot saltier than regular burgers. So I wonder if it was going to be salty tasting.
Whats with the title? Im vegan and dont consider myself part of the woke crowd. What kind of bs is this?? Also, you automatically assume its crap because its vegetarian??? Im a bit turned off by all this. I love this channel but this is bs. Disliked
I just know when this old man was active duty, they wouldn't have dreamed of putting a meal out there without some kind of meat. I'm old, I like to eat meat at every meal, and that 's the way it is for me. The good thing for the active duty crowd now a days is they can trade like we used to if you got one you didn't like. However, based on comments from others who have served since these came out, not too many troops like the ones without meat. And yes, I have had some vegetarian stuff before that was not good so I did figure this would be the same. But as I stated, I was pleasantly surprised. Woke is a catchy title. I think it worked......TFW!

Hey Me Ancient, great video. I'm surprised that the tomato based BBQ sauce, was still edible as well. When I was a kid, we called the potatoes "MatchSticks", I think that's even what the packaging called them, not sure. They were always really crunchy, and very salty, but tasty. Yeah I remember the TV antennae days, we had ours configured that we kept a pipe wrench hanging by it, and when we wanted to "fine tune" the reception, we'd open up the window, and use the pipe wrench to turn the entire pole that the antennae was attached to. Maybe it was silly looking, but it really worked well. Don't worry about the negative comments, Father God gave everyone their own free will. He stated his opinion, and I won't agree with it, or else we'd both be wrong!! Keep the videos coming, God bless, brother.

Especially if you have a vegetarian bbq burger ;-) But seriously, Lent has been around a long time. The idea of giving something up for Lent just proves that vegetarian anything is a sacrifice.
I almost edited my neighbor's car firing up out and reshot that part. But after talking with Ace, I decided just to roll with it. TFW!
Me ancient can you be my RUclips grandfather
Great video as always!
TFW
Great video as always! Here in the Northeast USA, we call those little fries "potato stix".
Semper fi, Marine!
I just couldn't think of it while we were filming. And outside of a small bit of editing, what you see is what I did and said. TFW
Dont get me wrong, the "Woke" and "Social Justice" movement is a load of horseshit, but calling a Veggie Burger "Woke" is a stretch.
When I was in the field, I wanted meat at every meal.....maybe it was just me. TFW
Nothing woke about a person - being vegetarian. Personal choice or religious reasons are absolutely fine.
There were people moaning that soldiers were going soft years ago when they brought in the idea of different menus!
I have my own ideas about that, Greg. I'll probably share those more specifically in a future video. TFW & stay tuned!
The location of the video is the deck at my house, if that's what you are asking. I cannot always get to all the comments, my friend. TFW
If the tea does not have lemon I would try mixing a bit of the lemon drink in the tea about a forth of a glass or so. The commercial veggie burgers are a lot saltier than regular burgers. So I wonder if it was going to be salty tasting.
Good idea. It was surprisingly better than I thought it would be. TFW, Travis.
Thanks for the video, Me Ancient! I got a kick out of the title! 😂
That was just for you, Lydia! TFW!
Wow, a vegetarian option, how woke. I don't know dude, sounds like some people just have certain diets that they want to cater to.
Yeah, I know. It's just that when this old man was active duty, the USMC didn't cater to anyone. I kind of liked it like that. TFW, Tim
Sorry man, every time I see you eat these dehydrated chemically preserved messes, all I can think of is severe constipation 🤷
Not that bad....just drink lots of water. TFW
came across your channel recently and i’m hooked! also how are you related to the camera man! if you don’t mind be asking!
He be one of 4 sons. He has his own RUclips channel (Ace Videos) like I mentioned, as does one of his brothers, Micah. His channel is High Adventure Videos. TFW, Joey
I was gonna say they were called pik-nik but as I was typing it showed up on the screen some stores still have them I believe
They are still out there. TFW
As Briscoe Darlin says, "A man's entitled to his opinion." I quit caving to peer pressure in 7th grade. Not worried about a few negative comments, for sure. TFW, as always!
@@MeAncient LOL!! "More power to ya", Mr. Darlin said too....... 😄 God bless my friend
We all know ACE made and edited this video with the title. Southerns know how to lose subscribers
First of all, with the exception of the first two videos on my channel, I edit all my own content. I like having the artistic license it gives me. Second, I come up with the titles myself. And lastly, sorry to see you go. TFW, Ryan
Some of the lemon lime mix might have been good in the tea kind of like a lemon in tea.
Oh yeah.....an Arnold Palmer. I like those. Why didn't I think of that? TFW
I don't think there's anything "woke" about observing lent.
Especially if you have a vegetarian bbq burger ;-)
But seriously, Lent has been around a long time. The idea of giving something up for Lent just proves that vegetarian anything is a sacrifice. That's what I was saying about this meal....it would be a sacrifice for me to have to eat it. Having said that, as I mentioned, it was much better than I expected. TFW
Oh man, I recall this one was rough when I had it. The flavor was ok but the texture...
Viper, I didn't mind the texture too much. Overall, it really surprised my that I liked it as much as I did. TFW, as always.
Hey man i love youre videos but your not praying before you eat whats up with that
Me thinks perhaps you didn't watch the video up to the 9:30 mark.....that's where the prayer to thank God for the food is. TFW, my friend!
I LOVE THE TITLE and I also agree. The idea is ridiculous.
If you've been active duty, you get it. TFW
Not watching the video. Its one of the best and was always my favorite. Its one of the biggest meals that had the best of everything.
Osmotic raisins I think is either done through osmosis or reverse osmosis which ever way to pull moisture out of them
These were nasty....could be an age thing, though. TFW, Brian.
love your videos but the mic positioned to we can hear every chew is not good
What!?! You don't like to hear someone chewing? (Sorry about that). I'll talk with my camera man.......TFW
Tobasco tastes like Tobasco 🤢Franks Red Hot enhances flavors!
😢
Again thank you for your service, so I said in the past that my dad was in the U.S. Air Force he's been deceased since 2016 why do you light a match every time? I believe you said to make sure it works, but have you ever had a match that didn't work?? He didn't talk to much about his time back in the Korean War as he was 17.5 years old and an orphan.
Wow, I bet your dad had some amazing stories, although most guys didn't talk much about them. At least the ones I have met. I just like to strike matches. And since most MREs come with them, it's just a thing with me.......TFW
@@MeAncient well again I say thank you to everyone who has fought & served this country very well sometimes giving up their lives for all of us...🙏🙏🙏
Aloha Uncle Me Ancient!
Idk if you remember me but i met you on Maui quite a few times. I always look forward to your uploads and especially this one because idk if you heard about the fires on Maui, but i lost my house and this is a good distraction for me. Anyone reading this please consider donating!
Kenneth, I have heard about your plight. I'm so sorry to hear about your home. Where was your home? I'm happy to provide a distraction at this time for you. TFW, as always. Mahalo and stay safe.
@@MeAncient me and my family live in lahaina. We were one of the people that had to jump out of our cars on front street and jump in the ocean to avoid the fire. So fricken scary, please keep everyone in your prayers!
This title yucks you are attacking everyone vegetarian wo chossed this way or where forced this way i thought you are better than this your degrading yourself by chooseing this title
Dude, chill! MREs are supposed to be fun! They are for me, at least. TFW, as always.
@@MeAncient its not fun its still an insult to the people who forced to eat this way and has nothing to do with woke you dont even know what woke means
You do realize MRE's are make with digestible plastic for shelf life and to prevent radiation contamination, there are no negative effects on the body. Remember bubble gum is also made with digestible plastic for almost 100 years.
Great review as always thanks for the prayer
Always! TFW
Thanks you for your sacrifice 🙏🏻
Was it that obvious? TFW, Roman
Those potatoe sticks remind me of my grandmother. They had some brand that would come in a Pringles type can. Haven't seen them in years. Ty for the videos
the vegetarian ones are NASTY!!!
Craig, see above comment. Not everyone agrees. Not sure they ever served or had to eat them though. TFW!
Love the videos but i wont eat vegg ie bur gers
Clinton, it actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. You probably noticed that from the video. TFW
Before we had the impossible Whopper we had the vegi burger👍😁 Uncle Sam beat Burger King !!😂😂😂
😂 he said woke veggie burger 😂
I'm happy to see you appreciated it like everyone else. TFW
You want to talk woke me ancient. Spell out TV 📺 “Tell” “a” “Vision”
Is it still "Tell" "a" "Vision" if I only watch RUclips on it? TFW

Thank you, Marcus!
It's so surprising to see what made it from the 2005/6 and what didn't make it.
Great video ;)
Bug burger would be more woke than veggie burger. 🤣🤣🤣
Now you're talking, Robert. Do you know where I can get my hands on a bug burger MRE? TFW
@@MeAncient I can't help you with that one. I don't think it's far in the future though...I wonder if they will include floss to get rid of the bug particles. I guess they could make the burgers out of meal worms...one of my friends farms those and feeds them to her chickens.
Never had any veggie "meat" never will
Rod, you are probably smart. TFW!
The only one I ever liked was the Quorn.. the others are gross!
A prayer leader is an imam.
Natalie, thank you for the clarification and TFW
Howdy Me Ancient that VEGGIE was ok after 18 years and the BBQ sauce was ok too. THANKS for showing !
Yeah, I couldn't believe it myself. Better than I thought it would be as well. BTW, picked up the MRE you sent today......coming soon.....TFW and TFSending.
I will stick with beef
WHERE'S THE BEEF!!! TFW
this is funny to me
Someone gets it! TFW
I'll pass lol....although if you're starving lol.
Keep sharing pics and stories...
That's the plan, Eltenda. As always, TFW!
Does your wife like the military mre's have she tried i did thier good =) Injoy watching your videos learning about andhearing you talk about the military and the photos you share...=) some of those Expried food you eat like some pateries you have looksl ike you can toss it against your nice brick hme and it will break into pieces Haa haa!!
My wife is the best cook who's food I've every had the pleasure to eat. The way I enjoy MREs is a personal affront to her. But seriously, I have to remind her that when I am raving about a meal, it's only in comparison to other MREs and military food I've had. Nothing compares to her cooking. It's a wonder I don't weigh north of 300 pounds. Seriously......TFW, Lisa
