- Marcus, a subscriber from the U.K. sent me an original British MRE. I'll try every item and let you know what I think. Includes Pork Casserole, Dessert Bar, Mixed Fruit, British Crackers w/Plum Jam, along with great drinks. It's quite an adventure!

That FRH took off like a volcano. Why the US can't have something like this in the MRE's is beyond me.
This MRE is a winner. Thanks for sharing.
That heater really did the trick, for sure. TFW, Scottie!
Awesome Cap! My Grandfather was in the 1st Canadian Airborne (Can 1 Para) serving under the British 6th Airborne Division (The Red Devils), jumped into France threw to the Battle of the Bulge, across the Rhine onto the liberation of Bergen-Belsen. Respect & thank you to all that serve Freedom!
That's a cool heritage, Craig. TFW
That's awesome!!!!

Hello from Scotland! Thank you for your service. We don't underestimate what you guys in the states do for and with us. ❤
Hello to you, too! You are very welcome. You are very kind. TFW
British Ration packs have come a long way from what I remember and usually come with alot more than what this one did. I'm wondering if this was one of the newest ones that are mean't emulate US MRE's. Since Marcus was in the Airborne forces it might be a "lightweight" version, since I don't recall them showing up in bags until maybe 2017-2018.
The ones I remember are usually alot bigger, called ORP's (Operational Ration Pack), in a big cardboard box giving you 4000kcal worth of food for 24 hours. Thats usually 3 main meals, numerous snacks, fruit and nuts plus an assortment of drinks.
It’s a 12 hour ration pack. Operational. He’s yet to look at rest of them. Won’t spoil the surprise 🇬🇧🫡🇺🇸
Ah I see, good to know!
@@marcuskiritsis2076 Hey Marcus Thanks for the MRE and i subed ya too.
@@marcuskiritsis2076thx dude!!!
New ones are 12 hour rat packs orr 8 hours packs. Britain has gotten more towards the combat meal model as a small cost effective rather than having a 24-hour pack a box
In Afghanistan British Forces were a pleasure to work with!
In the early 1980s, my Navy ship (USS Ainsworth FF-1090) hosted a few British sailors for two weeks during an exchange. Good fellas. Another time we hosted a few German sailors. Good dudes too. 😎👍
Thank you! 👍
I enjoyed meeting and visiting the few allied troops I met during my time in. TFW
Man that was bad ass as usual to both of y’all highly enjoy it, and cheers from San Antonio🫙
Cheers back atcha! TFW
I saw the movie, " A Bridge Too Far", again recently, it's a pretty good WW2 movie, based on Operation Garden Market. It has several big screen stars in it. I read some information about how realistic the movie was, and I believe that several reviewers gave it around a 90% accuracy rating on the situations, and the outcome of the various blunders made by the allies. A 3 hour long movie, that is a real departure from most movies about the battles of WW2. I enjoyed your pictures of the embassy, such a tragic event though. Great video, looks like the military in the UK, eat very well. Thanks for your service, and may God bless.
You are welcome and I'll have to watch that again. It's been quite a while since I saw it. TFW
Market Garden was probably Montgomery's biggest failure in WW II. The logistics were screwed, LZs were missed, soldiers lost their lives BEFORE they even engaged the Nazis, etc.
Um i have to say that a bridge too far is a load of todge it may be based on arnhem but it is highly so far away from the truth and besides the reason the attack failed is because it was betrayed by Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands not because of any major fault of the commanders except maybe browning glory boy. read a proper book rather than watching an american financed movie, attenbourough took the money rather than present the truth.
I'm really enjoying your history lessons. And thank you for your service. ❤
Wow the Brits have a good one there.. THANKS Marcus for sending that over to Me Ancient to review. Me Ancient great review !!
The review is easy when the meal is so good, for sure. TFW, Steve!
I love all your stories I find them lovely also love ur sons channels much love from the UK :)
Thank you so much, Rebecca. Those are very kind words. TFW!
Hi Me Ancient first off I absolutely love your videos. I am also subscribed to both of your son's channels they also have awesome content. Well what I should have said first is thank you for your service sir!! I was not born until 1986 so your stories of your marine corp days are fascinating to me because they were before my time. I was also military. I spent 4 years in the Minnesota Army National Guard we were an armor/Tank battalion. I did my basic training at Fort Knox Kentucky. Which I didn't know until I was there but fort Knox is also a marine training facility. Anyways thank you for the video please keep them coming.
I went to basic training at Ft. Knox in 1975.
@@leonardsmith2198 oh wow. I wasn't there until 2009 but very nice base.
My pleasure. Thank you for your service. My brother was stationed at Fort Campbell in Ky back in the early 80s. TFW!
Love your videos! Just had a Canadian IMP over the weekend. This looks good but I definitely recommend trying a 24-hour British MRE. Keep up the great work!
Marcus sent some more real good MREs from the U.K. I'd love to get my hands on a 24 hour Canadian MRE, for sure. TFW.
Excellent video and what a wonderful gift. That hat is beautiful. As always I enjoy the stories and pics and thank you for reminding us of the true price of freedom and your service.
My pleasure and thank you for those kind words. TFW
I love that 3 in 1 Coffee! so good! The hospital I worked at, the ER doctor always brought 3 in 1 Coffee packs for their dept. it was so good!
Glad you found our plum jam and added the ending clip, us brits love our plum jam, great video
I recently subscribed to your channel via your sons channel. I have to say I never realized I'd be so interested in learning about MRE's.. I can tell you a lot of it is based on you personally. Seem like a very friendly and engaging person & great story teller. I've thoroughly enjoyed you & watching your videos. Thank you for service, I appreciate it.
Welcome aboard and thank you for those kind words. TFW and stay tuned for more......
Thank you for your service and a fun video.
My pleasure and I'm happy you enjoyed it. They are fun to make and I get to enjoy some cool food from around the world. TFW
Gotta love it. Hey just curious when you going to review the Brown bag I sent you months ago. Great video.
Great question......I have 5 of those menus, when I include the one you sent. They were some of the ones I had left when I got out. They were not a favorite with my fellow Marines so some guys gave me theirs when they pulled the Beef Stew MRE from a box.
I need to do something with them at the same time and include yours in the video. Any ideas?
Another awesome video Me Ancient! I have been wanting to try a British MRE as well. Looking at their menus though, seems like that they have a lot of vegetarian meals which I am not too fond of. Watch out for those TS and Hurricanes and stay safe! vr, S
Will do and TFW, as always, Shannon. This one was definitely NOT a vegetarian meal.
more a case of nobody wants the vegetarian meals so there are an awful lot on the market.
Awesome review I have a couple British rations but I have the ones in the box this video makes me want to break open one of them
Another great video , y’all kepp getting better and better. That heater definitely meant business. Keep em coming. So do enjoy.
Michael, thank you for those kind words and TFW!
There's my favorite Veteran!!! God bless you and your family. I love it when you upload! You have a wonderful personality. It makes my day and puts a smile on my face! ☺️
You are very kind. TFW!
I love his excitement!!!! ❤❤
That does look awsome, I would take that with me camping, Awsome video as always!!!
You and me both! TFW
Looks awesome, gonna watch video now! Very cool.
Hope you enjoy! I had fun making it, for sure. TFW, Rod.
Biscuits Brown, versatile, savoury or sweet. The Vestry Foods Cookies and Cream are great too. My favourite menu is the Beef and Dumplings, closely followed by Hunters Chicken. However I love the US Chilli Beef Mac. Thankyou for your service Sir. ✌❤🙏🍻🇬🇧
Greg, more British MRE review (and comparison) coming soon! TFW
Another great video! When you unraveled that MRE, it reminded me of a gift bag from a mall.. LOL! I wonder if you served with my Brother in- law.. He was also stationed in Beirut in the early 80's and was an Radio Operator.. He also served in 29 Palms (stumps), and the Marine Corps. Logistics Base in Dagget, CA. I was in from 1997-2002 and did most of my time in Okinawa at Camp Hansen and Camp Foster (S.D. Butler). Anyways keep up with the awesome videos! Semper Fi Brother!👹🐶
Semper Fi, my brother. I could have served with him. I cannot recall any Marines from West Coast in my unit. We were all from Camp LeJeune., 2nd Radio Bn. 2nd FSSG. TFW
He did indeed serve at Camp LeJeune and went to boot camp in the East. He was from Flint, Michigan. It was his first station and ultimately was his demise as he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in his 40's that they tied to Camp LeJeune water. He later served out West, probably chasing my sister. LOL! His name was William (Bill) Neil Phillipson and my sister set up a couple pages on Facebook honoring him. There is even a picture of me holding up a stringer of stripers.. lol Whether or not you served together or not, it is funny to think how many of us cross paths in amazing ways! Keep up the great videos! OORAH!@@MeAncient
Great review as always thanks

@@MeAncient no sir, I was raised in a military family tho. I have high respect for our troops and first responders!
Thanks for another great video. I'm sorry but when you squeezed out the sausages I had to laugh. Other than that it all looked delicious 😋
Sara, I don't know what to say........ It just came out like that.
I was looking at the printing on the side of the pouch and wasn't paying attention to the ingredients oozing out. TFW
My Granddad was one of the first British Paratroopers , 1940 No2. Commando/II SAS - X Troop - Operation Colossus , The first British Airborne Combat Drop of WW2 February 10 , 1941

Hey Brother!! I don't say this every time I message, but I should. With my apology on that, comes a request, from this strange old retired Navy drudge :) Thank you for your Service. You exemplify the care and precision required of people in uniform. I appreciate you greatly.
Sharon, thank you for those kind words. Thank you for your service and TFW
Hi Me Ancient. I’m happy that you finally got to try a UK MRE, although I have to say that both the French and Spanish ones look more appetising. The cereal bar definitely looked a bit plastic! I wish I could find a Scottish MRE that had haggis and Irn bru on the menu, but I’m pretty sure they don’t make those! Best wishes from Scotland 😊
Gillian, that would be cool to find any Scottish MRE. Are they really out there? I've never seen one. TFW
I figure people cannot wait to hear what I have to say, man! TFW
love me some irn bru!!!!!

Thank you for your kind words and TFW.
Always happy seeing new video from Me Ancient, greetings from Poland
Cool! TFW from Poland, my friend.
The flag in the thumbnail is upside down, by the way. The Union flag (commonly referred to as the Union jack) has not been symmetric since 1800 after the Kingdom of Ireland got incorporated and is represented in the current iteration with red diagonal stripes from St Patrick's Saltire. The wide white diagonal stripe goes over the top of the thin red stripe in the top left corner, and this pattern is then rotated around each corner in an anticlockwise manner.
Thanks for the great content.
Thanks for that. You gave me some good family memories ❤
My Grandad served in the royal navy, and his brother was a marine. Rest in peices Pat and John x x
Thank you for your service too sir.
I appreciate your comment and your family history of service. TFW!
I love a good strawberry drink. And that fruit sauce looked good too.
It was all good, Luke. TFW
They've changed a lot compared to what my dad brought home after being on exercises in the 80s... I'm pleased you got a hold of one.
I'd love to get hold of an old one, for sure. TFW
Great videos
TFW, Johny!
Tell ace I said hi! ❤ love the cap and thank you for your service
I'll tell Ace Hi and you are welcome, Caid. TFW!
That picture of the US embassy brought back memories of seeing it on I think the BBC when i would have been 14.
At that point i thought we (UK) were the only ones who suffered terrorism (naive child) as we still had the IRA who liked blowing things up.
Those little fruit smoothie things used to be in the British ORPs too, but for some reason they took them out in I think 2020.
I love that you are reviewing a Brit rat, and that you are enjoying a great British tradition of a proper (sort of as instant tea is fine, but..) cup of tea. :)
Im so glad you enjoyed the SMR.
They're pretty good, mostly.
Could use some more variety, or a change of some of the menus, but theyre good for what they're for.
Haha i was wondering where the peanut butter or jam went.
Great video again. :)
Fun fact: I live right next to Northolt Air Base and we have the polish war memorial right on a main road roundabout to mark the sacrifice of the Polish pilots who flew for us during WW2.
That is cool. Lots of great history in England. I'd love to go there one day. TFW
It’s what I believe to be Chai tea, very neat, Tfs 💖
It was close, but that one didn't have the spice that Chai has in it. TFW !
Nice add in with the plumb jam
Danny, my bad on that. I'll pay better attention. First time that's happened to me. I'm always really interested in getting all the food I can get.........TFW

Lucy, I'm happy to hear you enjoy the stories. TFW!
the 3 in 1 tea is a high tec version/ tribute to WW2 British rations they had a block which a mixture of tea leaves sugar and powdered milk compressed into a black hard square
It surely was tasty! TFW and I appreciate the history!
I'm proud that both of my grandfather's served in WW2 on both fronts. Both of them had very respectable duties. On my father's side. My Poppa served in one of the units for the Navy who secured Japan on JD day. I'll have to look through pictures to find out which one. My Poppa on my mother's side served in the army on the German front on I'd have to ask my uncle what unit. But his job was one of the many overlooked duties that helped us in the war. He was part of the Army Core of Engineers who helped set up the communications network that eventually lead to the Native Americans fooling the Germans. They were both blessed with long lives as a result and now have true peace with God for helping give everyone freedom. 🙏 Both of them have been role models to me and I love them so much
The ultimate thing I learned from them is having respect and responsibility for your family, friends, yourself and everyone around you but most importantly act upon that and always carry love
Semper Fi Ancient Marine! 1989-1994 Marine Here and served on one of the last LPH-2 Iwo Jima Main deployments off the coast of Yugoslavia at the time. I love Acea’s (spelling?) gifts to you a USS Iwo Jima Mug… but sorry, it has killed me to not say something for a year or more. He meant well and finding the LPH-2 Iwo Jima (decommissioned 1993) mug is hard if not unattainable to find. But you as well as me never served on the LHD-7 Iwo Jima (commissioned 2001). I know an old Marine like yourself knows this but some youngsters don’t (not calling your grandson?) a youngster but there are others that might watch that don’t know the Navy sometimes reuses name of old War Dog Ships. I did server for a short time on the USS Wasp LHD-1 same class as LHD-7 Iwo Jima but left the Marines before the New Iwo was commissioned. I have enjoyed your video’s and watch Him, you and me grow older…. Keep up the Video’s and if I find a Correct IWO JIMA mug I will send it to you. Semper Fi Marine!
Yeah, I haven't told him either. It's all good. He found an Iwo Jima mug and figured that was it. I have found some on eBay, but I like the one he got for obvious reasons........ TFW!
After REFORGER 1977 I spent 30 days with the Royal Dragoons cross training. The UK was so broke they couldn’t afford fuel, and other necessities. The British soldiers were embarrassed to no end. We ended up supplying rations and fuel for the duration.
I was on a NATO exercise in the North Atlantic and Norway back in the day. I had graduated high school in 1977......TFW, Leonard!
Outstanding, you actually mixed the tea properly. Did anyone else notice that small detail?
All I know is that the tea was really good. I'd buy some of that for myself separate and apart from MREs. TFW
I'm just wondering where were the windproof matches and condiments eg Salt as you said and the hot sauce.. Believe me I had a fair few of these. There's always a small hot sauce .?? As for Arnhem "the bridge too far" The allies did not realise a panzer unit had been taken off the line and sent to Arnhem by Model for Rn R. as they had intel that it was likely Volksturm or lower grade units defending the bridge.
Thank you for the history and what you saw me open was everything, with the exception of the jam I showed in the last part of the video. If I get matches, I ALWAYS light them up. TFW
The dessert looks like those sesame seed candy coated ones that you could even find at Costco but I’m not sure I’m still watching your reaction! :)
Back when I lived by a COSTCO, I don't remember that type of candy. That was a while back though. TFW
You managed to get a British ration, congratulations! But I hope to see a review of Brazilian mre in the future!
If I can find one, you can count on it. TFW
The Brits have a great MRE selection.
Michael, I'm looking forward to trying some more that were sent by Marcus. Stay tuned and TFW
Another great video. Also, do you like the American Rations or the British Rations better now that you have tried both?
Perhaps we can do an eat off (?) and compare some. TFW
Sir. I’d like to see mystery meats from around the world taste test with no Google translate lol .. great video as always wish you and the fam well.
Now there's an idea........TFW
All about Operation Market Garden can be seen in the movie A Bridge Too Far.
It has an all star cast. Robert Redford, Sean Connery, Elliot Gould, among many others.
I'll have to watch that one again. It's been lots of years since I have seen that one. TFW
I was hoping there might be a Lion bar in there for you!!!
Thanks, see ya on the next one!
Adam, stay tuned!!!! TFW
Thanks for the video, Me Ancient!

You need to try the British 16:37 24 hour pack theirs loads more in it and a large menu to choose from
Ten menus that need to be changed at this point, and muesli or some kind of baked beans meal for breakfast gets very repetitive, very quickly. 😂
They're not terrible though :)
Marcus sent a few 24 hour MREs as well. We'll see what he sent soon. TFW
do have a question for you after hearing where you served. around 1993 i meet a navy medic who became a good friend. he gave me a tripod camping stove designed for 1 lb propane bottles. he had it with him also when he was on the beach in oct 1983. so my question to you is have you meet dennis cooke. navy corpman. would have been on the beach at any of the sickcalls or after the barracks blewup.
I knew a few Navy Corpsmen, but that name doesn't ring a bell. I was gone from Beirut by October of '83. I left in June. TFW
Ancient what mos were you keep up the good work great videos
2621. When I was active duty, a 2621 was a Manual Morse Intercept Operator. I don't even think any military uses Morse Code anymore. I am obsolete......... TFW!
I love how you pray before meals. I was in the only real branch the army for 20 years not as smart as you I was infantry, did 2 tours of iraq so I appreciate your service in beriut. I'm sure that was a mess multi national forces are
So does the synonym "Meal Refusing to Exit" also apply to british MREs? You should give a follow up after 3 days from eating it.
No man....I've never had a problem with any MREs I've eaten. They always said I had a cast iron gut when I was active duty. Must still have it. TFW
My grandad was in the uk army and my nan was a nurse and she always has amazing stories about the war times love to see your liking our food Me Ancient

@@MeAncient Awesome! I live in Maryland myself. I was actually homesick for it when I was in the Army. Now I sit back and say gosh what was I thinking!!
I wanted to share a funny story. My cousin has been in the navy as a corpsman for over 7 years now. When he went to join the recruiter told him he couldn't join because he wasn't tall enough. According to the recruiter you have to be at least 6ft1 to join the navy or USCG. That way when your ship starts to sink you can walk right out of the water 😂.
That's funny! We really appreciated our corpsmen who were attached to our unit......for sure. Tell your cousin, "Semper Fi," from an old Devil Dog. TFW
Good day from Arizona I would like to know what is the best MREYou have tasted?
That's a tough one. I"m unsure. I'd have to go back and check the videos from the past. TFW, Shirley!
Thank you my brother for another entertaining video, and I love your stories and pictures from your amazing military career... take care and may respect to ace, your friend from Canada
I wouldn't consider my military 'career' (4 years active duty) amazing, but I appreciate the sentiment. TFW from Canada.
Don't sale yourself short, you served your country and this is something to be prood of big time 😊
A close second to the French ration the British rations are top rate. As with most other nations rations, it has a shorter shelf life. The biggest drawback being its bulk and size. But the quality makes it worth it!
Kevin, maybe I'll do a nation against nation MRE 'cook off.' TFW
These rat packs are a long way removed from the crap we had in the 70s-80s…compo rations! In fact my interest in world rations started when attending an air show and visiting the logistics corps stand where they were cooking modern ration packs and inviting attendees to sample their wares….my gawd what a difference and very tasty!
Bill, those International MREs are fun, for sure. TFW
Loved the video and the stories, just one correction it was the Portuguese that brought tea to Europe, and a Portuguese queen that married an English King took 5 a clock tea and sandwiches to England. But in Portugal coffee was always more popular, and tea was associated with nobility, so it never was that popular in the larger population. The only place where tea is naturally grown and harvested in Europe (edited to add "in Europe") is in Portugal, in the Azores Islands.
Joao, wow! That's a cool history lesson. I had no idea. Other than the Reformation, I don't remember much history of Europe. I appreciate your filling us in. TFW
@@MeAncient You teach us something every video you talk about your experiences in the military, and even some Brits have the same idea about the tea. I am a little of a a History "nerd", but we study it in school, we also study a little about the US history, especially the independence war and later the US role in world history.
Interesting as usual. Thank you for sharing the pictures from Lebanon. It's always so boring to see what Freedom costs. I appreciate your part in that service
My pleasure and TFW
@@MeAncient I feel like I should correct my post I didn't say so boring I said sobering. Talk-to-text drives me mad that I guess I should blame myself for not reading it before I send it
I found your channel completely by accident and have been referring to you as "uncle mre". I think I like your style of review more than others cuz there's sometimes a bit of a history lesson in there, as well as how soldiers would actually eat it; most of the other reviewers just review the individual items like they were packaged grocery items and rarely talk about how this would be used in context of field conditions. If they're compared to just the canned foods on the shelfs, of course they'd be "meh". But how it would be used in field conditions gives more context to what is in the package and why some items were way more desirable to a soldier when it looks mundane to us.
I am happy you found my channel. Welcome aboard! One's perspective is a bit different if you have lived it, for sure. TFW! (Thanks For Watching)
@@MeAncient I was wondering if you've ever heard of a "MRE Cookie". Not the ones that MREs comes with, but a cookie that is made from MRE components. I think the ingredients was peanut butter, pudding mix, sugar, and either coca powder or coffee mix. I've heard it called a "ranger cookie" or "soldier cookie" and apparently you make it by mixing those ingredients together and baking it over a fire. Since it mentions an open fire I think it actually predates the idea of an MRE (as if I remember actual MREs always had FRHs) I have seen it repeated on the MRE forums but I've found no mention of it in other reviews or online articles, so I'm wondering if it was actually real or if it's just a prank.
Oh My!!! That is inspirational, for sure. You have given me some good ideas for future videos. TFW@@MechaEmperor7000
This makes me hungry!
It should....it was good. TFW
Crush the biscuits and add to the meal to soak up the juices / gravy.
There are a lot of videos on rations savouring the taste etc but they all forget to a soldier on the move food is fuel so shovel it all down your neck as fast as possible and carry on but keep the tea for quiet moments when you can boil water and enjoy it.
Ain't that the truth. Spoken like a man who's been there, done that. TFW!
Hope u enjoyed it!
I really did. TFW
You know I did. TFW
Pegasus was a winged horse that Perseus rode. Zues, the God of gods, threw lightning bolts.
