You are the epitome of what I believed I soldier would be after service. I am British and I absolutely love your channel. I love the content but also your personality and stories! Have a great day fella.
That normality in the mist of the chaos of war is something my uncle (Comando in Africa during the Colonial Wars here in Portugal) use to talk about, like being in a large town having a beer in the local cafe, while in the outskirts of town the rebels and the regular troops where fighting in the bush and in the farmlands and they could listen to the firefight and they, the soldiers, and the civilians, were so use to it they continued their life as usual. Mind numbing what a human being can get use to... Great video, and a good story, as always...
I have to admit, every time you get into one of these “older” meals, I get a bit nervous. I feel a genuine sense of relief when things go well. CHEERS SIR!
Agreed! 😅 can get a bit dicey with some ingredients for sure! When something smells fermented or sharp especially! 😬 the Beirut photos were super cool! 📸
That pic of the blown out buildings reminds me of once when I drove down US98 in Panama City Beach here in Florida, late 1970s. They'd just built a few hotels right on the beach. A big hurricane came roaring in, and blew all the hotel windows out! Then later on my Navy Med/IO deployment, 1983, we saw those buildings in Beirut.
So glad to see your video pop up. :) Those photos are so interesting. Its amazing how resilient the people that lived there were. Life going on as best as it can in a war battered country. Each photo is an important part of history and I'm very glad you have them to share. Im not gonna lie i actually laughed out loud when you equated floaty creamer lumps with marshmallows 😂 Im so glad you got such a great 2005/6. Its about time you tried one that was fully edible. Such a great video to watch before I hit the sack. :)
Another wonderful video, Me Ancient. The heater in that MRE looked like it worked as it should. I wonder if putting the food pouch in first, then adding the water makes it work better, since the pouch displaces some of the water. Might be a more accurate way of measuring how much water goes in the heater, not sure. Possibly the citric acid in the raspberries caused the slightly off taste, since you mentioned that tomatoes don't stand up too well? Looking forward to more, loved the pictures, and the stories of the places you saw during your military service. God bless.
The instructions on the bag actually say to place the MRE main in the bag before adding water. But you are supposed to hold it and the heater above the water line while adding water, mainly on the heater unit, then slide it down with the heater unit on bottom. when you lay it on a rock or something. After heating the main you are supposed to add water and coffee pack to the heater to make you coffee, and then use the canteen cup.
Thanks for the video! I looked back at the video of comparing chicken and noodle training meal to MRE, and in one of those meals you had apples with raspberry sauce or something similar. Perhaps the taste was similar to this MRE raspberry apple sauce, just a little fresher? Lol.
Hey brother! I was deployed to Beirut twice in 82 and again in 83, both times on the USS Guam. My first MRE was eaten at Beirut Airport in late 83! Before that, it was all C-rats. Semper Fi!
