In this video i'll show you step by step how to cook a Tomahawk steak in the Weber Kettle!
This method can be used on other thick cut steaks like t-bones, porterhouses, rumps, rib eyes and more!
Reverse searing is great as you get a beautiful subtle smoke flavour and a much more even cook!
I love tomahawks as you basically get a juicy steak with beef back ribs on the bone!
Now as mentioned in the video, you can pick up steak shooter, other rubs and some smoking wood from naturalsmoke.com.au and if you wanted to check out our new merch store with high quality AS colour T-Shirts and Hoodies, shipping WORLDWIDE, head lownslowbasicsclothing.com

Great video, thank you very much. Doing my first Tomahawk today and going off this
Nice man! Doing this on Saturday! Thanks for the idea
Just followed this recipe for my daughter's birthday dinner. The BEST. So easy. So tender. Thanks mate
Glad you enjoyed mate!
Absolutely nailed that cook! Perfect!
Thanks mate!
Great video, very clear!
Saw this video this morning. Went to Austral after work and picked one up (already had steak shooter) looking forward to it shortly!
You are in for a treat my friend!
thx for refresher cooking one up for tonight
Yum. Looks amazing.
Thanks mate!
How good is the reverse sear on anything with a decent thickness. The end results are simply amazing and really is pretty simple to do
Top job
Looks mega. Great content
Cheers 🍻
Absolutely perfect, and good 2 no i do the exactly the same thing. My mouth is watering now lol thanks....
Thanks mate 💪
Omgosh that looks delicious 🤤
Thankyou
Wow. That looks beautiful.. 👌🏼
Thankyou.
Had great success with this on my first ever attempt. Gotta get me one of them thermo meters
nailed it !
Nice job!
🙏
I love this video. Well done
I bought the prime rib rack instead of the plate ribs
Essentially wanted to low and slow like usual and aim for high internal temps. Can I do this with the prime rib rack or only the plate ribs?
Looks phenomenal Aaron. Just bought a Kamado griddle plate. Debating using that or the grill grates over the coals for my Father’s Day tomahawk….Thoughts?
Nailed it bruv
Cheers mate 💪
Great thanks. Will follow this through soon. Do you rest also after the direct sear at the end?
Gotta love reverse searing a steak. Good vid mate
Cheers man
Almost 100k subs bro.
Looks stunning mate!! One day I’ll do one of these. Amazing as always!!
Thanks legend!
That’s a pretty good steak there mate. Perfect
Thanks mate!
That is a beautiful looking steak
That is a massive Tomahawk! Reverse sear is the way to go with a steak like this! Great video as always. I would love to have you in one my videos one time :). Cheers! 🍻
Thanks mate! Definitely mate, would love to organise a collab sometime!
I’m with you brother, that’s the best way to cook a steak that thick, how versatile is the old Weber
So good hey!
Mate' s dedication to the video production is evident in the cleanliness of the kettle! Everytime! If it wasn't for presentation reasons do you reckon the kettle has to be cleaned every time?
Thanks mate! Yeah I clean after every cook, but it did help getting the Weber unused in a box only a year or so ago.
That looks awesome!
Can you give me some more information on that knife you using please.
Keep up the good work 🤙🤙
Thanks mate! Head to dalstrong.com
Nice one Mate, bet you can finish the Tomahawk on your own lol. Looks awesome
You’d win that bet 😝
Mother of God, that, to me, is cooked perfectly! Magnificent!
Thankyou 🙏
Awesome as always. Maybe a little closer to medium rare for me. My daughter would absolutely love it like that though!
Thanks mate! Yeah to be honest I’d have liked it just a touch more done too. Unbelievably tasty none the less.
Minty L code and beautifully cooked tomahawk! What could be better!
Thanks mate! Not much 😎
If I wanted to get it to say about medium rare, how much longer would you recommend leaving the steak on the grill ?
Really enjoy your vids! have you tried dry brining your steaks before smoking? does it make a difference?
Thankyou! Not a huge amount. It can help improve texture and depth of flavour.
Hey mate where’d you get the coal chimney from. Cheers
If we have 3 smaller tomahawk steaks, would i be using more charcoal or just keep topping up?
What make was the knife? And cannot see a link to Qu Tensils (?) for the hot plate.
I like my steak around 130F medium. Would I take it to high 120’sF before searing it
I don't yet have a charcoal Weber, my next father's Day gift😂 I have a Weber family q, could you do a video on coming a tomahawk with gas?? Keep up the great work!
Check our tbone on a gas bbq video out :)
@@LownSlowBasics will do, I can nail at bone on the Weber q!
Yo! Looks delicious, I’m curious how do you avoid steak going cold with such long rest periods… after direct grilling.
Wrap in foil :)
Did this cook the other week came out unreal! Steak shooter is something else. Keep it up man
Thanks legend! Glad you are enjoying it.
Do you rest another 10-15 minutes after the direct sear or does the rest in between steps get the job done?
That looked amazing!
Thanks mate, the rest between smoke and sear is enough 👌
Looks like something from the Flintstones 😳 🤤
😝
I saw that one at Austral meats, but my bbq is too small lol
Didn't realise Austral meats in Adelaide sold to the public. Going to give this one a crack tomorrow. Cheers mate
Sure do mate, probably one of the best ranges available in Adelaide!
What temp would you smoke to if you wanted it medium rare mate? 135-140f?
Yep, you got it! 135f should be bang on. This was just a touch below medium rare.
Steak looks cracka! Are you letting it rest again after searing or cutting it up straight away? Cheers.
No need to rest again! Can cut straight away.
You use rubs on most meat products which isn't something I've seen in Australia very often, as opposed to the US? Does it take away from the pure meat taste?
I’ve had salt n pepper on most proteins in the past, I like to try different combinations now. Still highly encourage and recommend salt n pepper as an alternative.
What do you do to keep your steak a a decent eating temperature while resting it for 20 mins?
Wrapping in foil pretty much holds it, only drops like 10-15 degrees in that time.
Is it normal to use so much coal for a single cook?
Im new to charcoal grilling and a lot of reverse searing videos are showing 2 chimneys to cook a steak or something. Feels like itll get expensive and wasteful.
Some cooks looked like the coal costed more than the meat
Your videos are awesome mate, ive been binge watching them all week hahah
Can be. Depends on brand, weather etc. thanks heaps mate!
Do you need to rest it at all after the sear?
Not if you reverse sear, if you rest between between the smoke and sear then no need.
Any tips of how to get a more consistent cook through out the steak, I always seem too over cook the edges or under cook in the middle?
Make sure you let your steak come up to room temp before cooking and reverse sear indirectly first like this method, sear for only around 1 min per side and your cook should be much more even.
Hey Aaron the Dalstrong link doesn't seem to be working any longer is there an updated link?
Hey mate I’m not sure sorry. I’ve lost contact with Dalstrong.
@@LownSlowBasics OK no worries. Thanks for the quick reply. Are you using a new brand now?
@@danieljoy7504 I’m using a brand I used through my butcher years. Had the knives for over 15 years. Get onto Victorinox 👌
@@LownSlowBasics bewdy will check them out.
I tried this method today. It was the best we ever ate. I think I can't eat any other kind of steak anymore...
Looks better than my tin of pal I had tonight.
Umm cheers mate 😅
thats like eating 2 steaks .so massive.
I did share some with my family 😅
Isnt white smoke bad for steaks?
Thick white heavy smoke is. Not thin blue looking or clear smoke.
Check out @FCGrills on Facebook for other grill plates for your 57cm Weber. #Australianmade
If I cooked it like that my family would starve. Oh well, more for me!
:P
First.
Legend.
To bring 2 kg steak to room temperature you need 3 hours minimum
Don’t bother with that
Reverse cooking not require room temp
It’s a bs
Well slap my spinalis dorsi with the side of a hog and roll me in the mud!
😂💪🤟
