Emperor vs Firion - Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy
Emperor Mateus is one of the best FF villains. I like how he is straight up evil, no tragic past or sympathetic goals or any of that. He just wants to rule everything. I miss traditional villains like him. Now everyone has to be a tragic character, lol. As much as I like Caius and Ardyn, sometimes you just need a Mateus or an Exdeath who are evil for evil's sake.
To be fair there are just straight-up villains in a fair few of the recent games, they're just not that impressive one way or another. I mean, if FF13 was going to get another villain rep in NT I would've much rather had Caius than that goofy-looking god from Lightning Returns.
@@vadandrumist1670 Caius would take priority over anyone else from 13. He is the best character from that trilogy.
@@georgehouliaras7239 Presuming you mean *after* Lightning and Snow, seeing as he literally didn't otherwise. Unfortunately from what I hear Caius isn't actually liked in Japan so I could see them willing to have left him out entirely. Even still going by their stated goal of 50 fighters I would've left Caius as the finale of the FF13 roster anyways if I were them, with Noel having come before him since it makes sense to introduce the hero before you introduce the hero's rival. What I'm stuck on though is what role to make him. Noel is an obvious Assassin, but I could see Caius being any non-Marksman role. I suppose it'd depend on a gimmick unrelated to his EX skill.
Trivia:
In the original novelization of the FFII story, it was revealed that Mateus was corrupted by Satan who had cursed the world of FFII by possessing its Palamecian Emperor line. This explains his evil tendecies and why he has demonic powers.
Due to the fact that the only person he could not hurt is his mother, Aile. Satan's influence made him exile her. Moreover, Satan made him kill his father since he found out he could not possess him.
It would also explain why when he was first killed by Firion and Co. He would return as the Hell Emperor bent on destroying the World despite his previous obsession of ruling it which shows it was actually Satan merged with himself who came out of Hell.
@@tselelleb Yeah I remember reading something like that, as well that his mother was supposed to appear in the game and asked you to "save" her son by ending him but I do question the novel's legitimacy. Outside sources tend to take certain liberties that contradict the source material.
For example, when the Emperor died, he didn't merge with Satan, he just overthrew him and became the new lord and master of Hell.

I love this, Firion has some of the best lines in the game.
Such a shame he spends most of the story getting beaten down by one person after another.
God I love Firion. This game made Firion my favorite character in all of Final Fantasy.

I remember playing final fantasy 2 but I don't recall firion doing these abilities or aleast not that I know of
He never did. It's just a nod to the fact that everyone could have the same proficiency in weapons.
Technically he can do whatever you want him to do in FFII.
Firion is the all rounder warrior. That's why he has all those weapons to differentiate the first 8-16 bit warriors. Onion Knight being the job system and WoL being the very first warrior/poster boy who slayed Chaos. Bartz is kinda weird but I guess he wields every kind of sword even if its after his time.
