    I have to say Tara, if you ever figure out how to bottle your son's smiles and giggles for sale, you will never have to work another day in your life!
    John, you have inadvertently explained why the old practice of students getting jobs as apprentices working towards a license or certification was so valuable. We are just beginning to realize that we never should have stopped offering that to students. Thank you for that.
    You Newbys certainly get a move on quickly! This bathroom could be finished in a blink.

    I love how John waits patiently for the pencil from Crusoe and when Crusoe has finished his drawing he releases the pencil to dad and gives him the drawing and John says 'you drawing the project? pretty good. Will I take it up the ladder with me so I've got something to copy.' and Crusoe looks at mom while twisting the pencil in his hands looking at mom with a smile beaming ear to ear. John and Tara, my mom in law did this to my daughter when she was about 8 years old she had sewn a little dress by hand for her barbie doll and she gave it to my mom in law to inspect. Well it was a lump of cloth all sewn into a very tight object and all my mom in law said to her was ' darling that is so beautiful, as granny was still not sure what it was and what she must do with it, she asked 'where must it go'? (my daughter was holding the barbie in her hand) and she pointed at the doll and said it is 'a dress granny for my barbie'. I realized she did not want to offend my daughter but tactfully asked her what she must do with it, I have never forgotten this and learnt from that example and my daughter felt she had done something very well in the eyes of her granny and felt important. You are doing this with your sons very tactfully put John and Crusoe felt very happy and secure in the knowledge dad liked my drawing .The house is coming on in leaps and bounds and Tara your face looking at John who was beaming from ear to ear about his roof supports and the time was bang on. Have a lovely day and your little farm is gorgeous. Love the flowers in the new wall area John and Jao made by the new build. Stunning.

    Hello little family, I find it hilarious and amazing that you both can stay focused on difficult building requirements while the boys are so busy in such a distracting way, it makes me laugh, here you are creating a vid, designing a roof and keeping an eye on the ever exploring boys, and let's not forget Obi. Great juxtaposition of shots between the noise and dust created by the plumbers and the beauty and tranquility of the gardens and flowers. Oh man, two toddler boys and a puppy is genuine, silly chaos. Every child should grow up with a pet - Obi is so perfect and adorable. Did you ever find your missing boot? I remember losing my gumboots in a giant mire of mud and cow s@#$, and stomping home in my wet, muddy socks, across the field, crying. The neighbour, Penny, heard me, and came to my rescue, washing out my socks, going back to find my mired boots, bringing them, and me, back to my mom.

    I think it’s interesting that half way around the world, we use the some of the same tool brands. Everybody builds with the same OSB board too. Our tools come from Germany and Japan, that I recognize, America, and probably Portugal as well. We eat food grown all over the world, like Mexico. Thailand, Africa, and eat fish from Norway and Alaska to name a couple. We are so connected and I am sitting in the U.S. watching you in Portugal. I think it’s really amazing.

    Hello from South Africa... I absolutely love your videos, and look forward to Sundays and Wednesdays to see how well you're doing. Crusoe and Sawyer are both adorable, and now the pup as well. You're living a life many would love to live. May I be so pertinent as to ask when will we hear you both, John and Tara, and the children speak or try to speak in Portuguese? How important is it to you to learn this language and converse with your wonderful neighbours? All the best to you all, looking forward to the next video on Sunday. ❤

    • @kindlydude
      @kindlydude Месяц назад

      The children will probably learn to speak Portuguese faster, and better than their parents ...children have an amazing capacity to learn a language ... especially if they hear it from native speakers who they interact and converse with on a nearly daily basis. Maria Montessori called this the "absorbent mind" of children ...and children's "sensitive period" for learning other languages is from birth to age twelve I think (if I remember correctly). The 'vocabulary explosion' for a child's native language that he is immersed in, is just before & around the age of two.

    Omg the building of the outer area is coming along as Tara says splendidly ❤ well done big pat on your back John - plumbing is mindboggling at the best of times and the little boiler room was actually a great find - it will look amazing can't wait for the process n reveal - John, I almost lost it 😅 when you said asseyez-vou & ferme la bouche as I learnt French in the 70s and those two says were popular by my teacher too and I used to laugh in French one year (4yrs lol) as our teacher was Irish Australian yes with a bit of both accents as it all came out gobbling gobbledygook lol 😆

      ...or several 'Murphy beds' ...some of them double as couches &/or tables when they are affixed to the wall (a table pops out) ...there are several designs ...some have bookshelves on either side of the bed that are affixed to the wall ...there are so many designs. And I bet if John could peruse several different Murphy bed designs ...he could make his own & perhaps save some money.

    I am LMAO at the French phrases John learned! I think that I remember, "Je n'parlez France." Does that mean I do not speak French? My excuse... 3 different schools in two years of French classes. My first full-year teacher would say, pounding his fists on the top of the first row of study corrals, "I can't understand why you'all don't behave!" (He had a thick southern Selma, Alabama, accent.) In all my junior and senior high school classes, his class was the only class that I got to first so that I could sit in the back row!

    How about making a temporary time capsule with the kids pictures and other things to add inside those walls you’re building? Then, when you bring this room down eventually, you can see how different the kiddos look like and have grown. ❤ love you guys.

    I am sorry if my comments feel a little late in coming. Having experienced wet winters in Portugal, and have a good idea of what can happen l think it may help you make adjustment or tweaks to help you through the rainy season.
    Try and insert the metal rain grills on the upper patio area, and at the bottom of the steps. Ensure you divert the water way from the front door entrance, otherwise the water will cascade down the steps in a torrent. It will end up as a flood in your kitchen.
    Any diversion you can make in the foot path to your work studio can also reduce the flow of water.
    I do divert water from the rain gutters on one of my buildings into a well ,but a day of heavy rain can make it rise by quite a lot.
    If you try a hose pipe on maximum flow and let it run down your steps it may help to give you an idea of how a gentle pour of rain will act. Better to have an idea at this early stage than later when winter rains have started.
    Happy progress.
