Your renovating costs are remarkably low for the return of vast improvement. I feel the value is above $350,000 and your agent is being very conservative. You’ll have a home, a guest house, a pond, outside kitchen, a dedicated office and 2nd guest house, garden as well as vineyard, olives and fruit orchard all overlooking a charming valley and countryside. Sounds like paradise.

I really enjoy the renovations being done, oddly i find it quite mesmerising to watch and i do remember the clean up vlogs when i first tuned in. You've put so much work in and it does show. It's a lovely homestead that definitely shines through on your vlogs 🥰
You guys are one of my top favorites on all of youtube and because you have done such an amazing job in documenting everything your family will always have a record of what their parents and grandparent and great grandparents, etc etc, went through, what you were really like - it is an age of miracles we live in and I look back at my grandparents and wish I had access to them the way you are building a record for your family.
Good on you for all of it. I have done old home restoration in the states for almost 35 years. Cleaning, clearing, rebuilding and sweat equity. We get our money back in so many ways. With you guys unless you sell one day, which none of us know what the market or state of our lives will be then , you have created a life long stability for your boys. An experience you cannot put a price on. Also they will grow up in a different culture, not to mention UK and Africa, learn languages, hands on, bare foot grounded, clean food, lovely life John and Tara you have afforded them both and yourselves. And sharing it all with us. I have been to your area and will be back, but bought a farm with a river in Central for now. You inspire me every day. You did not mention your RUclips earnings or other assets from the Portuguese project that you have created which has enabled part of the dream to become reality. Admirable qualities. Because moving to another Country and doing what you are doing requires an income. That is why it has taken me until I am 61 years old to finally make the move. INCOME. Finally I have figured it out after over 25 years of spending winters in Europe, to Mexico, to Many other countries. Thanx for all you are doing and sharing. Flowers do so well in Portugal and to me, too, are a happiness necessity. They are what make us so excited in spring. I had a pond built on my property and never went into it because of the “weeds,” the frogs, turtles, snakes and bugs that I loved watching, but didn’t like feeling on my bare skin. Except for the very hot, dry summer, your property is paradise. Sunshine makes us happy, cloudy days make us sad. Growing plants and trees we planted make us happy and you have made your property profitable for you no matter what it cost
The joy you have brought to us every week is, to us priceless. It has been a dream come true for us to see your beautiful boys as they grow, and to see your and John’s innovation as you turn a neglected piece of land into a small piece of paradise. You can’t put a price on feel good videos. My Sundays have been transformed since you came into our lives. God bless you. So interesting! You are both so creative! I have owned 6 houses in the US 3 of which I had built. I lost money on 2 of the older houses I sold and gained money on the new houses I sold. I am currently living in a house I built 6 years ago and the value has increased 30%. I spent quite a bit in landscaping which is worth every penny because I enjoy my perennial flower garden so much. Like John, flowers make me happy!! I think you are going the right direction and will come out ok. Memories with your cute sons are priceless of course 🤗

Once you’re ready to rent your guest house on Airbnb, perhaps, we could arrange a family trip to stay there along with our 2 granddaughters ( 7,4). You see, when they come and visit us on our “farm”, they watch your RUclips videos featuring your boys and Mario the digger. They are following the tree house construction as well. Now, they would like a tree house to be built here on our property just like Crusoe and Sawyer have on your property! You have and are building a beautiful, cozy, delightful home and priceless home!
Everything could change in as little as 5 years. Life events, world events and general property values change with the wind. If we all concerned ourselves with future financial issues of property values we would never purchase homes. We do because we want stability for our families. We certainly hope that as long as we improve our home and property that the value will improve, and most of the time that is the case, but it’s never a forgone conclusion. The land you’ve purchased is amazing and has been absolutely wonderful for your family. That’s the most important thing.
What a furious struggle your land has presented to you! And inch by inch, you have met each challenge heroically! Hard work, a drive to make it beautiful and a selfless and ongoing effort to forge ahead despite the negatives is truly an inspiration! I mean, sleeping with all four of you in the same small space…for years! Whew! Again and again, you have scaled barriers that would leave most folks in tears. Talk about courage! Absolutely fabulous family. I recognize ourselves manning up to this lifestyle over the years and I feel that is why I enjoy watching your days unfold. Believe it, the messier, dirty and/or impossible your challenge is, the more success you will find after having met the project head on. Wow, these prices are so cheap. My husband is a contractor and builder and these prices would be quadruple what you’ve paid. He said that driveway alone would be over 40k. We poured an 18’ x 18’ pad that was 3k just for cement. That’s not including the $1500 for pavers for the top.He did it all himself so labor costs not included. Thank God my husband is a builder. He also said 5k for the brick house project is crazy cheap because you have skilled labors included in that. We are incredibly expensive herein NJ, USA. You and John have done an incredible job on this place and I’m so excited to see whats to come. Much love to you and your family!

We moved to Spain in 2004 and bought a property which we lived in for 10 years, and although the Spanish property market crashed and we lost money when we had to sell due to my darling husband passing away, we had the best 10 retirement years of our lives in Spain and made some wonderful friends there and memories that will last for the rest of my life. Your family are so delightful and you already have some wonderful memories I hope I live long enough to see your beautiful new home built.❤️❤️❤️

Hello Newby's.... John and Tara... every bit of blood, sweat and tears has afforded you a perfect home for your family. The memories are priceless, the lessons (minus plumbing) cannot be given a price. How much the boys have experienced, all of it is priceless. By the way, John, you should negate the cost of landscaping and flowers from the bottom line. The pollinators that will visit will cross pollinate the fruit trees, vegetables and flowers for years to come. Can't wait to see your next projects. Love the idea or an AirBnB. PS... the birds are reacting to the building not being there... you have changed their usual world. Plus, I love hearing them sing.
What you spent on your cobble driveway was a very good price. I had to have a small driveway front garden re done with paving bricks because the previous driveway had no drainage and was on a slope which caused water running down under the bungalow and that cost me £10,000 and its so much smaller. Big enough for two cars so not big. That was three years ago.
Don't forget that on the resell value you will pay taxes calculated on the difference between the acquisition price and the resell one. So basically you should expect a sizeable chunk of the now seen as future profit vanishing (depends on your tax level and situation).
Once again the bonus of being busy for the past week means I get to binge-watch your videos to catch back up😉 This was such an interesting and informative video! Thank you for sharing the costs of things, especially the materials which has given me much to think on (albeit on a much, much smaller scale). It just goes to show though how much is lost (for want of a better word) on labour costs given how much you could have spent if you'd just got a package deal for each project completion. *Hugs * to you all! xx

The cushion next to Jose had the zipper at the top... Moisture will seep down through this zipper creating a moldy environment... Simply flip the cushion vertically to extend it's life and your own enjoyment ... Easy peasy

What you have done on your property is beyond amazing. The improvements and strides are unbelievable while raising your little family. You new build looks like it will be stunning too. As any newbie to an area should do you have taken time to get to know your neighbours..your now friends. You are buying locally so supporting local...well done. You do look tired at times so please do take breaks..days off..your a young couple and you can work vvv hard physically but if you do not rest too you will suffer later in life. My hubby was like John..fantastic builder across all trades..worked too hard and now replaced knees..injuries that mean he cannot do the creative work he loved which is sad. So pls do not overdo the hard slog both of you. Your amazing.

I’ve just watched John building the kitchen, You said that he can do it again in the next 2 structures. I hope that it does not take too long to need the 2nd one. That was really interesting (I have an accountant heart 😀 ). It was good of Jose to appear, that made it all the more entertaining with it and he appreciated those things that can't be valued. What you didn't include in the valuation was the accommodation - what would you have paid for that? Also the produce - in particular from the trees that came with the property. While there are things that matter more than the Balance Sheet, it is nice to know you're adding value, not taking it away - for the love of the space you call home.

Good on you for all of it. I have done old home restoration in the states for almost 35 years. Cleaning, clearing, rebuilding and sweat equity. We get our money back in so many ways. With you guys unless you sell one day, which none of us know what the market or state of our lives will be then , you have created a life long stability for your boys. An experience you cannot put a price on. Also they will grow up in a different culture, not to mention UK and Africa, learn languages, hands on, bare foot grounded, clean food, lovely life John and Tara you have afforded them both and yourselves. And sharing it all with us. I have been to your area and will be back, but bought a farm with a river in Central for now. You inspire me every day. You did not mention your RUclips earnings or other assets from the Portuguese project that you have created which has enabled part of the dream to become reality. Admirable qualities. Because moving to another Country and doing what you are doing requires an income. That is why it has taken me until I am 61 years old to finally make the move. INCOME. Finally I have figured it out after over 25 years of spending winters in Europe, to Mexico, to Many other countries.

I had a pond built on my property and never went into it because of the “weeds,” the frogs, turtles, snakes and bugs that I loved watching, but didn’t like feeling on my bare skin.
Except for the very hot, dry summer, your property is paradise. Sunshine makes us happy, cloudy days make us sad. Growing plants and trees we planted make us happy and you have made your property profitable for you no matter what it cost

I have owned 6 houses in the US 3 of which I had built. I lost money on 2 of the older houses I sold and gained money on the new houses I sold.
I am currently living in a house I built 6 years ago and the value has increased 30%. I spent quite a bit in landscaping which is worth every penny because I enjoy my perennial flower garden so much. Like John, flowers make me happy!!

Once you’re ready to rent your guest house on Airbnb, perhaps, we could arrange a family trip to stay there along with our 2 granddaughters ( 7,4). You see, when they come and visit us on our “farm”, they watch your RUclips videos featuring your boys and Mario the digger. They are following the tree house construction as well. Now, they would like a tree house to be built here on our property just like Crusoe and Sawyer have on your property!
You have and are building a beautiful, cozy, delightful home and priceless home!

Everything could change in as little as 5 years. Life events, world events and general property values change with the wind. If we all concerned ourselves with future financial issues of property values we would never purchase homes. We do because we want stability for our families. We certainly hope that as long as we improve our home and property that the value will improve, and most of the time that is the case, but it’s never a forgone conclusion. The land you’ve purchased is amazing and has been absolutely wonderful for your family. That’s the most important thing.
What a furious struggle your land has presented to you! And inch by inch, you have met each challenge heroically!
Hard work, a drive to make it beautiful and a selfless and ongoing effort to forge ahead despite the negatives is truly an inspiration! I mean, sleeping with all four of you in the same small space…for years! Whew!
Again and again, you have scaled barriers that would leave most folks in tears. Talk about courage!

Wow, these prices are so cheap. My husband is a contractor and builder and these prices would be quadruple what you’ve paid. He said that driveway alone would be over 40k. We poured an 18’ x 18’ pad that was 3k just for cement. That’s not including the $1500 for pavers for the top.He did it all himself so labor costs not included. Thank God my husband is a builder. He also said 5k for the brick house project is crazy cheap because you have skilled labors included in that. We are incredibly expensive herein NJ, USA. You and John have done an incredible job on this place and I’m so excited to see whats to come. Much love to you and your family!

We moved to Spain in 2004 and bought a property which we lived in for 10 years, and although the Spanish property market crashed and we lost money when we had to sell due to my darling husband passing away, we had the best 10 retirement years of our lives in Spain and made some wonderful friends there and memories that will last for the rest of my life. Your family are so delightful and you already have some wonderful memories I hope I live long enough to see your beautiful new home built.❤️❤️❤️

What you spent on your cobble driveway was a very good price. I had to have a small driveway front garden re done with paving bricks because the previous driveway had no drainage and was on a slope which caused water running down under the bungalow and that cost me £10,000 and its so much smaller. Big enough for two cars so not big. That was three years ago.

Don't forget that on the resell value you will pay taxes calculated on the difference between the acquisition price and the resell one. So basically you should expect a sizeable chunk of the now seen as future profit vanishing (depends on your tax level and situation).

What you have done on your property is beyond amazing. The improvements and strides are unbelievable while raising your little family. You new build looks like it will be stunning too. As any newbie to an area should do you have taken time to get to know your neighbours..your now friends. You are buying locally so supporting local...well done. You do look tired at times so please do take breaks..days off..your a young couple and you can work vvv hard physically but if you do not rest too you will suffer later in life. My hubby was like John..fantastic builder across all trades..worked too hard and now replaced knees..injuries that mean he cannot do the creative work he loved which is sad. So pls do not overdo the hard slog both of you. Your amazing.

That was a very interesting video and when you have completed the new build and Jose comes back that will be very interesting to see what he says. You have been so rich in the neighbours you have around you, you both have each others backs, Jao is a lovely lad and his dad is fantastic with all he does and he and Jao are so good with your boys, as your boys grow up they will be part of their family and yours theirs. What you didn't include in the valuation was the accommodation - what would you have paid for that?
Also the produce - in particular from the trees that came with the property.
While there are things that matter more than the Balance Sheet, it is nice to know you're adding value, not taking it away - for the love of the space you call home.

Of course, with the house built and The Newbys being The Newbys in terms of popularity on RUclips, I have a strong belief that the property will be worth a great deal more than the cautionary value presented by the realter from REMAX if you wish to sell in 3 years time.
