- This week is nothing like we expected. We enjoy a few days of safari in Etosha National Park in Namibia, before our travel plans are changed and disrupted by Omicron and the travel restrictions sweeping the world. We've managed to travel throughout 2020 and 2021, but this time there seems no way around it, we have to act, and we have to act fast.
We are the Newbys, John, Tara, and our two little boys Crusoe and Sawyer. We’re a family who are pursuing an alternative lifestyle, and after two years of full time travel we’ve taken root on an abandoned farm in Northern Portugal which we’re renovating into our dream off-grid homestead. We release new videos every Sunday sharing our story, and we’d love for you to be a part of it with us. What a spectacular bit of travel. I cannot believe that one set of covid tests cannot be good enough for the entire country. Crazy to make you do it over and over. Wish i could have given you big hugs to make all the tears go away. Such awesome sights to experience.
Hi Bev! So may COVID tests. We just took another one again today, tomorrow we head to Botswana! Again we are negative, so good news. Wow, it's amazing. As I watch and write this I have tears in my eyes. At our age, late 70ties we will never get to see such beauty. Thank you so much for sharing. Your videos and descriptions its almost as if we were there in the 4x4 with you and sweet, sweet Caruso. So glad all turned out well. As we are "newbys"😉 to your channel we will keep watching. You have been so lucky to avoid most of the chaos of coronavirus. Hang in there. Deep breath’s and be your indomitable selves. Your wonderful videos are so important to so many people world over. Myself included. On flight to Hong Kong quarantine rules changed from 2 weeks to THREE WEEKS In a hotel all expenses paid by you. So many families stuck in small rooms for three weeks. What strange world we are all living in… this will pass💜

John and Tara, there is not much to add after such an emotional film, which I so enjoyed. It was lovely to see Etosha again and the harsh beauty. In a troubled world, there are some lovely people who will go out of their way to help. That is what travelling can give. One of the most interesting parts of Namibia is The Caprivi and the road between Rundu and Katima Mulilo. The region holds some of Africa’s most beautiful rivers: The Zambezi, the Kwando, the Okavango and the Chobe. But one thing is for sure, despite the setbacks, you can always go back and cover the regions that you had to miss, another time. Pleased that you made it into Zimbabwe. Safe travels.

What a terrifying time with birders and PCRs. We can empathize as Peter had to fly to SA unexpectedly for a family funeral and the rush to get all tests done was very stress-y. Delighted that you got into Zim safely! xx

Loving the journey and seeing all the wild animals, feeling your disappointment though. I had managed to avoid Covid until the week before Christmas and then it hit me like a steam train!! It ruined Christmas for us as not able to all be together, but we will make up for it next year I am sure. This vlog is a walk down the memory lane for me. Each spot you showed I have been there -seen it done it - including Victoria Falls. Each pixel of this vlog reminded me of my time in Namibia, Rundu, Ethosha etc. Ethosha was like our weekend hangout. PCR tests is our life if we want to travel. I have had that expenditure myself and it is annoying how much money the Pharmaceuticals as making money during the Pandemic. It is outrageous. Waiting for your next vlog. Your editing is fantastic. I remember when we were driving back to Namibia from Victoria Falls and we had short time before the border closed, a herd of elephants were walking on the main road and we had to stop - barely made it on time to cross the border. Normally it is lifetime experience to see a huge herd but when you are pressed for time it was nerve wrecking. The elephants knew where they were going and as soon as they found their exit they disappeared in the bush and we had to speed up to cross the border. Just a little story of my experience.
Hi Mint Leaf, what a cool story, those elephants really do take their time sometimes! Zipping across African boarders is often a little stressful so the delay can’t have been much fun. A lifetime experience for sure!

How did you post them, when you were obviously staying in WiFi, Broadband, Mobile-Phone and Internet-Free Locations ?

Hello friend! Not tedious at all, it’s a good question! So, sometimes we’re embarrassed to admit it, but we film everything on our iPhones, it’s so much easier to maintain and travel with than big kit, and it works well for us. In Africa the uploading was a challenge, but we tried to get a SIM card in each country and load it with decent data, and then where we passed through strong signal we uploaded them there. It was touch and go a few times but we just about managed!
I presume you have your family in Zimbabwe, right? BTW, Tara in Indian language means STARS. I am sure Tara know that.
