- HOW have I never heard of this movie before now?? I had such a great time with this one!
Layer Cake (2004) Starring Daniel Craig, Michael Gambon, Sienna Miller, Tom Hardy and Colm Meany
That ass-kicking in the Regency Cafe is one of the greatest scenes in film history.
The tea bag on the face is hilarious too 🤣
This role is what secured James Bond for Daniel Craig.
And the role that keeps me thinking when will Bond use his burner phone to escape the tax men
Only role 😂😂😂
When I say that scene, I told my friend, and they all said I was crazy...
I used to live a mile away from Stoke Park golf club where the scenes with Jimmy and at the end were filmed. It was also were Goldfinger golf scenes were filmed and numerous other UK films. Great place and me and the missus had a lovely lunch there. I tried to tell the matrodiee , "A little privacy, Angleo" and he looked right through me. He had not seen Layercake, obviously!
Hahaha love that
@@chrissiereacts Just in case any "complete muppetts" come on here doubting me, and to show off a bit", I lived in a village called "Iver Village". 2 miles west of Uxbridge! If you find that village then look on a map and go 2 miles north / north - west you will find Stoke Park golf club. You will also find Pinewood Studios, 1 mile north west of Iver Village where numerous films (Aliens and 1000 more films) were filmed. We also went to Black Park with our toddler which is also slam bang in-between Stoke Park and Pinewood Studios. Coincidence....nah! Just where we lived and take that mo-fo's!
@@chrissiereacts where are you from, please?
I love how effortlessly slick Layer Cake is. The rise n fall of the lovable rouge… the antihero… a chancer… the very epitome of the British soul.
I always felt that “The Gentleman” borrowed heavily from Craig’s character in the form of matthew mcconaughey. Actually… it’s kind of a part two if Craig hadn’t been killed off.
Glorious movie. Glad you enjoyed this tasty morsel 😊
Layer Cake is the film The Gentleman wishes it could be.
layer cake is as slick now as ever
@@chuckshc376 slick is as slick does 😁🖖
"You know what a Remora Fish, is", "Yes!", "Oh you do......."
Yes, it is "Chef" from Lock Stock :)
Soap and Tom!
One of my favourtie films... Seen it so many times I know every word, every inflection and every look off by heart. Really enjoyed watching you watch it :o)
I'm still so surprised I had never heard of it! Loved it 😁
Another great choice, can't believe more people don't know about this one. Guy Ritchie's producer Matthew Vaughan stepped up to direct this one and almost out-Guy-Ritchie'd Guy Ritchie!
I've mentioned "Sexy Beast" before but the more I see from you, the more I think it'd be right up your alley :)
Yes! Loved this one!
I'll add Sexy Beast to my list :)
Your reactions are worth 100 viewings. I love them and so interesting to see....keep these videos coming please. Thank you!
Thank you!! Shane Meadows next week... A bit more on the bleak side but hope you'll enjoy! 😊
@@chrissiereacts Keep 'em coming,. ChrissieR!
Matthew Vaughn's directorial debut. Very solid filmography.
Vaughn has produced some bangers as well
You gotta watch Snatch now!
Seen it! Loved it! 😃
I watched this in 2005 for the first time. The cafe scene with Morty relentlessly beating Freddie was so unexpected. It seemed so random that Morty, always calm, would just SNAP on someone for no reason, and then you hear why, and think "Oh, yeah. That would explain it".
This is the film that got Daniel Craig the James Bond gig. He was excellent in this, and indeed the whole film was excellent. Brilliant viewing, glad you enjoyed it too!
Daniel Craig's best movie and most people have never heard of it much less seen it. The title makes it sound like possibly a rom-com. But when a rom-com experiences the car bomb, they turn it off.
Absolutely stacked cast, the old school of British cinema with the all the up & comers it’s like a passing of the torch. Craig’s performance landed him Bond, Sally Hawkins Oscar nominated multi bafta, Tom Hardy, Ben Whishaw. It’s a brilliant film
Rip Michael gambon he was a brilliant in this 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
It's the first role I've seen of his beyond HP. Embarrassing, I know.
@@chrissiereactsit’s ok great reactions by the way 👍🏻
If you're getting Guy Ritchie vibes, Matthew Vaughan and GR have collaborated on a few films.
Shot Caller !! A awesome Movie as well.
The scream at the end made me jump out of my chair, and now my heart is racing. Hahahaha....
I'm going to assume you've not seen Sexy Beast. It's Ben Kingsley's best performance.
Very lowkey, small budget. Dialogue heavy. My mate worked on it. An absolute masterpiece. You'll never look at Kingsley the same again.
Great shout
It’s absolutely insane how much a love this movie…sound track gets into your skin ….Daniel Craig pre Bond ..saved the franchise and set the bar so high that they are probably screwed.
I'm really looking forward to diving into James Bond! I just have to decide if I start at the beginning or with Craig 🤔
@@chrissiereacts
If you go full Monty on the bond thing put on some comfortable shoes, that’s a journey. In my opinion Craig hit the re set button on the franchise. He was bludgeoned by the press when he was initially picked and so were the broccoli’s. With the pending direction of the franchise post Craig it’s an interesting story.
I remember really enjoying this when I watched it ages ago now. But was hard to follow in a chopped version…
Will watch again. Thanx C.
Great story, great actors, great soundtrack and easily in my top ten all time faves. One of those movies I seem to always need to see at least two or three times a year. Another top review Chrissie, well done!
Thank you! Yeah awesome soundtrack
Cracking film and cast…your reaction at that very end scene 😆❤ loved it…and the reaction.
My all time favourite movie! Really wish they had made the second book by JJ aswell!
Oh I didn't realise this was a book!
@chrissiereacts The sequel is called Viva La Madness. Netflix were going to make a series but ultimately didn't!
Matt Vaughn's directorial trajectory has been a wild one. Here he starts as a knock-off Guy Ritchie (albeit an excellent one), whom he produced many movies for. Then he tries some studio pictures (Stardust, Kick-Ass, X-men) before coming back to this more familiar GR-esque style with his more recent movies like Kingsmen.
I'm sure this film was a big reason he was bond later ps I loved your reaction to the brutal bits lol
Yes it was the chef from lock stock. His name was soap.
Oh my poor ears after that scream at the end Chrissie... 😂 Layer Cake is still one of my favourite movies... And although it was a short reaction... It was an excellent reaction none the less... I'm so glad you enjoyed the runner up movie Chrissie... All the best... Cheers. 🍺
Should have given a warning there eh 😂 sorry about that lol
Glad you enjoyed it! Bleeding ears and all ;p
@@chrissiereacts 😂👌👍
Great choice of film for a reaction. I have a feeling you would like "Best Offer", from 2013.
Also, if you enjoy British cinema, I highly recommend watching a younger Tom Hardy in two successive roles, "Stuart, A Life Backwards" and "Bronson". Phenomenal display of his acting chops.
I've heard a lot great things about Bronson! Will be watching it very soon :)
Basically Layer Cake is the English "Carlitos Way."
Can't wait for you to react to Sexy Beast 🤔🎥😎🙌👍
Well, the opening scenes are a bit different.
This film is up in my top 5 for sure!
Sorry did I just hear someone say was Van Halen big in 84 ..wawawawhhhhat!? Lol. Yes they had one of the greatest albums ever “1984” it had “ hot for teacher” “ top jimmy” “ I’ll wait” & even “jump” which is …whatever also you’ve got the privilege of hearing zep 2 & 4 from start to finish, lucky. I’ve heard those two albums so much I can sing evey word every guitar riff solo drum roll & basslih , if they separate “heartbreaker & livin lovin maid” I get borderline homicidal. Enjoy! That’s a treat, you’ll soon realize I hope 🫡
_Matt Vaughn_ GENIUS!
All Matthew Vaughn movies have great soundtracks. Expecially the intros.
Layer Cake is an absolute masterpiece
Thiers an alternate ending they filmed. It's on the DVD or youtube somewhere.
Crazy Larry was also in Lock Stock!
Fun fact the actor who played the Duke his father is a criminal legend of England's old East end of London and South London the Great freddie foreman who dispose of a body for the kray twins this is a great film
THE ENDING GOT ME TOO!! I'm glad you got this ending because in the USA they had an alternative ending where he doesn't shoot he just follows them in a car. I think I read somewhere that the director said that Daniel Craig's character doesn't die from the gunshot..so that something.
I love the gallon cookie jar of vodka you're drinking from. You must be a lot of fun to hang out with 😂
Pingu's gonna getcha. When you least expect it.
Love the reaction as always!
Another cool, but lesser known gangster film is Love, Honour and Obey.. great cast
Part of a trilogy - Yellow Card & Final Cut are the other two films, different stories but basically all the same British actors using their real first names. 🌞🎥😎🙌👍
13:56 i usually hate it when people add memes etc to reation... but this was genius!
Great reaction !! Knew you’d like it !
That's what happens when you don't pay attention because you're too busy breaking the fourth wall.
Very underrated movie!
Should try rock and roller
Ooo...you beauty....just what I needed! Will watch now. Hope you enjoyed! Hope you have had a good day! You need to review 90's Rave music as well! The best of times for us old timers :) Taking "E's" and Coke and living it large! :)
LTJ Bukem @ DreamScape 10 - ruclips.net/video/Pwbbr6oIlxY/видео.html Magic!
Chrissie...can I suggest watching (if you haven't already??) 'THE BUSINESS' starring Danny Dyer, Tamer Hassan and Geoff Bell...an absolute belter of a British gangster film...you'll like it...with all it's twists and turns...and the 80's soundtrack is awesome..
Great reaction again Christinith. I appreciate the soundtrack mention. The Director always uses great music in his films
This is the movie that got Daniel Craig his foot in door for James Bond Character
I've always thought that the shower scene after the murder, and the fact Sienna Miller is in black stockings and suspenders, are references to The Long Good Friday and Get Carter. Therefore I wasn't expecting a happy ending.
Did you spot that the lad who shot him at the end was played by Ben Wishaw. He's Q in Daniel Craig's Bond films and also the voice of Paddington.
I haven't seen ANY of the movies you just mentioned haha 😂🙈
@@chrissiereacts The first 2 are also British Gangster films. I'm assuming you've seen the Bond's and Paddington films. If not, you have to put the Paddington's at the top of your watch list.
Like I said, haven't seen ANY of the movies. I'll add Paddington to my list! :)
@@chrissiereacts Don't forget Paddington 2. Pedro Pascal and Nic Cage would endorse my sentiments🙂.
Soon as I saw this movie! I predicted Daniel Craig would get the BOND role! This was a perfect audition for Bond, and Im convinced this movie got him the role!👍🤔
Nice! I'm excited to see him in that role 😃
Couple of fun facts, the large white country club at the end where XX gets shot, is Stoke park, west of London. It was also used in James Bonds Goldfinger and briefly in Rocking Rolla which you should definitely watch.
i remember years ago reading a trivia thing and it was Daniels performance in this movie that made them choose him for James Bond.
Aswome film watched this with my dad 15years ago 👊 great 🎵 songs aswell ❤
Plz do rise of the foot soldier.
May the 4th (be with you) is Star Wars day. Fans could celebrate with Leia cake.
😂😂
if you can track it down watch a film called Performance starring Mick Jagger amongst others.
I love this film, and the cast is so stacked. Also I don’t think the end is what it seems, given how XXXX is dressed he clearly moved to the US and became a private detective with a preposterous accent.
Yes that was chef.
Australian movie to watch animal kingdom is a watch true story as well
Moral of this story is don't make an enemy of anyone who has a chest freezer! 😂
Have you seen Once Were Warriors? I think you'll like it.
Brilliant film
Thats very interesting that I just watched this movie tonight as well.
Oh no way! That's a fun coincidence
@@chrissiereacts Or destiny just like the ending scene that we cannot control everything. Now im gonna looking forward your next video.
You’re got on a role, and react to Trainspotters, Ewan McGrearor first movie. The actors you’re viewing in their first early movies and end up making all their wealth doing popcorn movies. Ironic.
I'm looking forward to your Snatch reaction
the opening was that good i stopped your video and watch the film.
Please watch Eden Lake
Skipping the scene with gene that explains what Morty did what he did and nameless taking genes gun leaves out a lot
Good thing anyone watching this has already seen the movie then, isn't it
You know there's two endings, right?!
Watch the other one
Fucking great film. Great soundtrack and nice little twists and turns
Ya the ending ahhh ya
Smartes part about this film us it bever actually leads you to think who is this guy and then yiu realise at the end you dont even know
“Once were warriors” please
It's on my patreon now :)
Dunno if I should tell you this but there is an alternative ending.
😲
I think this is a very good movie, but there is one big hole in the plot. The Serbs would not have accepted losing the pills to the police. They would have demanded payment no matter what happened to the pills.
That's unrealistic but it does allow the reveal of the pill *juggernaut* they're running. A million E's would be manufactured in that production in no time at all. The police seizing and destroying the pills are a footnote to the Serbian boss, so he writes them off and accepts the Duke's head.
'Layer Cake' is a really, if you'll excuse the pun, layered film. Every character gets their moment in the sun. Those are the best movies, where no one's a stock character. Not as big or twisty, but 'Heist' and 'The Score' are a couple of good crime films. Anything Guy Ritchie. And you could do worse than 'Zodiac', that's for sure.
Unrelated but does the number 12 in your username represent the number of languages you speak?? If so, that's so impressive! 🤯
@@chrissiereacts you're the only person to note that! And not languages but countries visited - at the time. The number's changed in the past few years.
fun movie, u should watch empire with john luguizamo. btw, ur opening joke about starting with a bang.....booooooooo. thanks for the entertainment!
Hahahaha 😉
Is this a guy Ritchie movie too holy! Moles
You need to have a word with your editor. Literally just sped through all the best parts
Lol I'm sorry your free entertainment wasn't up to your standards 😅 but seriously, some production companies are worse than others and copyright strikes are a very real thing on youtube so its either a blocked video which no one can view or this. But since there are sooooooo many other Layer Cake reactions, you can watch those instead. Now warm up your bottle and off to bed you go 🍼👶
i HIGHLY recommend the Australian movies "two hands" and "the postcard bandit"
loosely based on a true story
The Guy Ritchie movie you watch when you’re not watching a Guy Ritchie film, same production crew tho. Check out Rock’n’Rolla!
You must watch SNATCH please
Love that you didn't recognise Tom Hardy 😂
😄 I think I did but didn't really know who he was yet lol
The Americans promote their own movies, thank god the Brits take quality scripts seriously. Wake up Americans, there are other countries producing great films too.
Don't worry so much about what other people are doing
now im deaf lol
Hahaha I really should have a disclaimer 😅🎧
@@chrissiereacts what pardon didnt hear that lol
😂📣
Good reactions!
Glad you enjoyed it.
You should watch dead man’s shoes
