Charles Bronson and Tom Hardy would talk over the phone while he was researching the role and they became great friends. In one of their conversations Tom was telling Charles how he wasn't feeling too good after a bad break up. Charles said to him in response: "Tom can you remember the floods that happened recently? Where that young lad got his foot caught in a sewer grate? Nobody could get him out in time and he drowned? Well that would not have happened to me. I would have told them to Cut. It. Off. Now. What I'm trying to say is Tom, is sometimes you need to cut a piece of yourself off in order to grow. In order to move on". Tom said that really stuck with him and he thinks about it all the time. He even improvised the "cut a piece of yourself off" quote into one scene in Legend.

He took the art teacher hostage because in his head he put him in that situation where the governor would not give him the respect of even looking at his artwork. 3:10 People saw off the barrel to make the weapon more compact. A shotgun is devastating, so if it's easier to conceal (and smaller is easier to wield), it's a lot of firepower brought to a tighter context. Additionally, shotguns don't need to be accurate for nefarious purposes, so a short barrel means more spread of the pellets, which means more likely to hit your intended target at close range. An important factor when your weapon of choice only holds 2 shells before reload.

There was an escape from Broadmoor in 1981 and we had to be collected from school by our parents. This made sense apart from two brothers who were 6ft 3 (1.90) and 6ft 5 (1.95). They had to wait for their 5ft (v. short) umbrella-wielding mother, to walk the 500m from home and secure their safety. Oddly, when I just checked the year, there was loads of stuff about a 2nd escape in three weeks but very little about the 1st, which is the one that this one was.

Last I heard Bronson was up for parole again but, he had recently attacked a 37yo inmate, who is known for unnaliving and beating up ppl in same age group as Bronson, 70s. The guy previously slit the throat of another pensioner inmate. He came running at Charlie and Charlie thumped him a few times before knocking him out. He was worried about his up coming parole hearing. That was last year though. Absolutely disgusting what this country has done to that man... FREE BRONSON.
I looked that up he did non of that his parole is on "Pause" he is benign evaluated and tested to see if he is telling the truth that is what I saw with the recent parole report form what I heard his next parole has been pushed to sooner then before so yeah not perfect but it is better.
one even better is Bronson wants to be on big brother if he gets out, now if this happens you can dam well be sure it be the first time iv ever watched that show lol
I just wanted to say I really appreciate is that you're not just picking the same old narrow furrow of genre stuff everyone else on RUclips has done to death but rather a more grounded and eclectic selection of films. As for this film, incredible performance and a killer soundtrack. It was very weird for me at the time of release to hear the guy from maybe the worst Star Trek movie was headlining an acclaimed biopic on the weird nutcase the tabloids would occasionally do stories about but he absolutely killed it. Charlie's in his 70s now, and still inside. If only the guy had gotten some kind of help but fat chance of that with the criminal justice system over here.
@Tom-uv7ry Oh bore off, it hardly shows them in a good light and are you forgetting it's a film not a documentary so there's obviously some creative thought behind it, I was more suggesting when they are both in a scene together you can clearly tell them apart with their mannerisms and behaviour and that's a credit to Tom Hardy's acting ability etc
If your still wondering about the barrel being cut there is two main reasons. 1. It makes it far more easier to conceal in jackets and pants during a robbery. 2. It makes the weapon a lot more agile and easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces, aka a bank. Source: I grew up around this stuff as a kid unfortunately and I asked the same question when I was 9, when someone had shown me sawn off wrapped in newspaper.
Excellent choice Chrissie, Hardy is outstanding in this, you have amazing reactions and really good commentary after, unlike so many other channels!!! Take care, good luck with your channel!!!
This film made me look at Tom Hardy in a new light. He is a TRUE THESPIAN. Whether Stage or Screen, Tom is a dedicated & immensely talented PERFORMER!🏆❤✨
When you said “Come on, that’s a sexy look” my internal voice said “Weird Science!” I reckon that might’ve been Kelly LeBrock’s signature look for that movie, but it’s been a while and my memory is a thing of the past.
"Locke" is another great example of Tom Hardy. Its him in a car on his own for 90mins on speaker phone to a few people & his life falls apart while driving home from work.its phenomenal!!

Thank you for the fantastic reaction! I’m so stoked people are reacting to this, the performance of a lifetime and a unique director firing on all cylinders, you put it perfectly. It’s art. Tom Hardy is basically excellent in everything he does, but since no one has mentioned it, The Drop with him and James Gandolfini is an underrated crime flick worth watching. Nicolas W Refn also directed the Pusher trilogy and Drive, which are his more “traditional” (I use the term loosely) movies and fantastic in their own ways as well. Bronson is my favorite of his more experimental ones, but Valhalla Rising, Only God Forgives, and The Neon Demon are all arresting and very evocative in their own ways, and each more brutal than the last. Sorry to gush, but it was a great reaction! ❤
This was excellent. I liked the bit when you questioned "what do you do with him?". Full exacerbation. I watched this when it first came out. Forgot how good it was.
Tom went and spoke to Charles multiple times whilst prepping and filming, they actually developed a bit of a friendship and Charles still calls him every so often. Think there is a youtube interview with Tom by VUE or INSIDER and he talks about the chats they still have after the film
Hey Chrissie. Martina Coles " the take" is probably up there with Tom Hardy's best performances if you liked this you'll more than likely like the take
'' The Drop '' (2014) is another amazing Tom Hardy movie that no one knows about. Crime thriller involving the mob and it has the lead girl from Prometheus (Noomi Rapace) she too is another actress who's pretty much good in everything she does. Late and great James Gandolfini (Tony Soprano from The Sopranos) is also in it in one of his last roles before his death. Just watch the trailer and i guarantee you'll be like yea i have to watch this:)
You should read his book "Insanity". It's first hand accounts from his life. The film is beautiful but his life was even more wild. He also has fitness books, I have one of them. All the money from his books go to charity from what I read. Also he wears sunglasses because he has been in solitary for so long that his eyes are sensitive to light now.
Fun fact, I worked with an English corrections officer in (NZ) that had actually had Charlie in his custody in the UK...he had some unbelievable stories.
Hardy hung out with Bronson a lot to get the role right, and Bronson apparently took such a liking to him, he shaved off his moustache and gave it to Hardy to wear in the film. He probably didn't actually wear it, but it's a sweet sentiment from old Charlie.
If you haven't seen it, to my mind the TV series Taboo is the best Tom Hardy performance. I found your channel a few days back and I'm really enjoying your work. Thank you!
I thought I was the only person who thought this was an absolute masterpiece! The soundtrack alone is in a world of its own!! ❤ Another really great true story film is The Postcard Bandit.
For me,"Bronson", was a shot from the past. I remember when a little me was watching a funny man fighting firefighters on the roofs of the asylum... 2000's where a wild time man....
Aaaaa this is such a great film and I don't think I've seen anyone react to it before. What a style of film making and what amazing acting. Locke is indeed very good but I have to say this may be my favorite performance of his--very theatrical and the score helps.
Great reaction I've subscribed will be watching from now on , he was sentenced 1974 been out twice 69 and 84 days the film finishes with that incident in 1999 and the figures at the films end were from 2008 when the film come out p.s he's still in prison today , other great films of Tom Hardy's to watch , legend another true story of the English gangster kray twins he plays both , lawless , dark knight rises , child 44 , revernant , warrior, mad max jury road
A "buckshot" shotgun shell has several metal pellets in it, usually around eight pellets. There is also bird-shot which has smaller pellets and are far more of them. The point to cutting the barrel of a shotgun is to increase the spread of the pellets. The shorter the barrel the more spread the buckshot or bird-shot will have. It reduces the effectiveness of the shotgun shell, but it also makes it easier to shoot without having to aim. An added benefit is that it's easier to hide and carry, these type of shotguns were common for criminals in Australia and the UK, because pistols weren't as commonly used or owned. You can usually find a hunting shotgun and then cut it down for illegal use.
Theres a really hard hitting british film called Scum its about young offenders in a borstal starring Ray Winston and another hard hitting film with Ray Winston is Nil by is directed by Gary Oldman both challenging films
Love this reaction, the movie is so underrated and it’s definitely one of Tom Hardy‘s best roles. The great thing about it is, even though the movie has taken some autistic license with some of the scenes, if you actually know Charlie and what he is like, this is the way he thinks, so the movie is actually a lot more factual than people realise.
To answer your question about the sawed off shotgun thing Concealablility with little loss to the damage they can cause You can hide one easier then a full length one and it's almost as damaging as it would be in a full length with little trade off
His book is brilliant he also held not sure if he still does a Guiness book of records for push ups while in prison he has a certificate for it in his book
You REALLY need to watch "Chopper". Incredible, just incredible. Eric Bana acted the pants off Hollywood and everywhere else in this. Unsettling, powerful.
3:14 the only really practical application of a sawn off shotgun is concealability. Being a firearms hobbyist I can tell you that it also makes the gun much less accurate at long range because once a shell is fired there is a wad that packs the bb's together to keep them bunch up before it leaves the barrel. Good for close range defense or offense but shit for practical accuracy or hunting.
I keep checking for dead man's shoes.. Do you know when your releasing that? And love your channel 👍🏼.... Can you react to Trainspotting when you have time

This film is an example of arthouse style done properly
When you mentioned you had seen RocknRolla, I knew this was going to be an excellent video. I was very entertained with your reaction, and reaction videos aren't my usual fare! Thank you, and excellent video!
I loved both this and your Chopper reaction. I need to re watch Chopper now, it must be 20 years since I last watched it.
I’m from the same town in England as Charles Bronson, Tom Hardy does a very good job of portraying our accent.
@@maddermax74 Lol, I'd definitely tune in for that....unfortunely, that'll be the second time I've watched that show. I watched 1st series 😞
Maybe he can live at your house eh? It's all good while it's theoretical isn't it?
@@nickmaguire4914 🤡👞
Hardy is wonderful in this, Refn is a great director. Thank you for this reaction!

Digital Versicolour by Glass Candy is the tune. It's a favourite on my playlists.
Another absolute must watch by Tom Hardy is Legend where he manages to play both Kray twins simultaneously and encaptures them both brilliantly
It's a terrible movie and he is terrible in it too, how he plays Ronnie Kray is nearly as bad as his portrayal of Al Capone.
You cover some of the best movies, great channel. Great to hear your take on some great works of art.
Great choice, great edit, great reaction. You're killing it!
Oh yeah!! That's jogging a memory lol
Loved weird science.loved Kelly le brock.might have to pause this for couple minutes😋now in thinking of Jamie Lee Curtis in trading places😜🤒
"Locke" is another great example of Tom Hardy. Its him in a car on his own for 90mins on speaker phone to a few people & his life falls apart while driving home from work.its phenomenal!!
He was alone in a cell because he always beat everyone up.
Rubbish he was hiding down the bock because wayne hurrun and dessie cunnigham put a pick axe through his back goggle wayne hurrun they were working for the arifs they were hiding drugs in pankhurst prison garden and stupid Bronson dug it up trying build a pond proper dangerous men my mate yammy b done 36 years in prisons when Charlie was there don't believe everything you. Hear
Thank you!! I'm so excited to work my way through his catalogue. From watching this and then Drive, I just love his style and vision 😍
Great reaction. I was surprised that I had some tears right at the end too.
He changed his name from Charles Bronson to Charles Salvador because of his love of art. The man himself is an absolute legend.
Relax there, fella. It’s just a RUclips comment section.
This was excellent. I liked the bit when you questioned "what do you do with him?". Full exacerbation.
I watched this when it first came out. Forgot how good it was.
Omg!!! You’ve done it again!!!! Bronson is one of my favourite movies!!!!! And one of Hardy’s best!!!!!
😁😁
Lawless and Legend he plays an amazing lead too
Both based on true stories too
Another great reaction Chrissie. Keep it up girl. Best wishes from England 🏴.
My favourite Bronson quote is "tickle my feet and call me general" when he took some of the prison officers hostage
mild correction, its when he took 2 iraqi inmates hostage, he demanded a helicopter, a blow up doll and a cup of tea
😂🫡
@@bigfrankfraser1391 whatever, it's still a great quote
@@bigfrankfraser1391 And the Iraqi's were hijackers who were in there for hostage taking rather ironically 😂
Tom went and spoke to Charles multiple times whilst prepping and filming, they actually developed a bit of a friendship and Charles still calls him every so often. Think there is a youtube interview with Tom by VUE or INSIDER and he talks about the chats they still have after the film
This is my favorite of Refn's movie. Thanks for the reaction.
A Clockwork Orange, in the pipeline?. Synth soundtrack. Stanley Kubrick, 1971.
13:56 The song is 'Glass Candy - Digital Versicolor'. ✌
So good!
Hey Chrissie. Martina Coles " the take" is probably up there with Tom Hardy's best performances if you liked this you'll more than likely like the take
Can’t recommend watching that enough, everyone is excellent in that series! It’s only a few episodes long and so good!
@@eeveegee666 it's so obscure. I never here anyone really talk about it. I watched it when it was on TV I think. Glad someone else agrees though
Tom Hardy also brilliant in the 4 part gangster series "The Take".
22:36 "you fackin' what?" I use that quote so often 😅
Hahaha that scenes and line delivery from both of them is so good lol
You should read his book "Insanity". It's first hand accounts from his life. The film is beautiful but his life was even more wild. He also has fitness books, I have one of them. All the money from his books go to charity from what I read. Also he wears sunglasses because he has been in solitary for so long that his eyes are sensitive to light now.
My father in law was in the prison service and he had dealings with Bronson and the Krays. Told me many a tale.
You really are watching all my favourite films one by one...love your channel.
Thank you!
You should also watch Tom Hardy being interviewed about corresponding with Charlie Bronson for the role. Fascinating!
keen to watch after work today. movie suggestion: The postcard bandit (Australian movie)
I thought I was the only person who thought this was an absolute masterpiece! The soundtrack alone is in a world of its own!! ❤
Another really great true story film is The Postcard Bandit.
His autobiography Bronson is a brilliant read, and a real insight into his Life. Watch Legend where he plays both Kray twins another masterpiece.
For me,"Bronson", was a shot from the past. I remember when a little me was watching a funny man fighting firefighters on the roofs of the asylum... 2000's where a wild time man....
The Drop with Tom Hardy is a really good movie
If you like Tom Hardy, check out The Drop from 2014. It also has James Gandolfini in his final movie. It's a solid crime drama.
Great film Tom Hardy is a legend 🙌
so good to see someone react to this movie 🤓. loving your reactions much respect Birmingham UK 🇬🇧.
"....... (inhales)..... So WHY do people like to saw off shotguns...?"
And that moment is when I subscribed lol
Ohhh!! Thanks so much for explaining! It makes sense.
@@chrissiereacts You're very welcome. Love your reactions, and you have been selecting some great films.
Theres a really hard hitting british film called Scum its about young offenders in a borstal starring Ray Winston and another hard hitting film with Ray Winston is Nil by is directed by Gary Oldman both challenging films
Mouth being wide open whilst reacting to the butter scene 😂😂😂😂 i knew that'd happen.
To answer your question about the sawed off shotgun thing
Concealablility with little loss to the damage they can cause
You can hide one easier then a full length one and it's almost as damaging as it would be in a full length with little trade off
His book is brilliant he also held not sure if he still does a Guiness book of records for push ups while in prison he has a certificate for it in his book
You REALLY need to watch "Chopper".
Incredible, just incredible.
Eric Bana acted the pants off Hollywood and everywhere else in this.
Unsettling, powerful.
She already did. Few weeks ago.
The director of this film has a remarkable back catalogue.
If ya can spare the time, check out the "Pusher" trilogy. (Nicolas Winding Refn)
I'm so down for checking out the rest of his stuff! I recently watched Drive and it only confirmed how much I love Refn's style.
He kept in fantastic shape doing thousands of push ups and such in his cell. He wrote a book in fact! "Solitary Fitness"
Can you react to Trainspotting when you have time
I promise I will :) just taking a short break from really heavy movies for a while and I know that one will hit hard! I've actually already seen Trainspotting... fantastic film.
I cant imagine reacting to the movie "Locke" would be super dynamic? but its such a good Tom Hardy movie. Whole thing takes place in a car with only him talking to people on the phone. but its so compelling. I watched it in the same room my brother was playing video games. and he stopped to watch. and he said "i could have kept playing and just listened to the movie, but I had to stop"
I love your reaction
