Thank you to Mario Kart 7 for being my first experience of playing Mario Kart online. It was always so hilarious when a blue shell appeared on the bottom screen, EVERYBODY would start backing up because they didn't want to be in first place when the blue shell hit.
MK7 online has kinda been insane after everyone forgot about it. Hackers were being hackers and Metal Mario B Dasher and Red Monster Wheels were flooding the lobbies
I did catch your drift, but sadly if you want to play, let's say, Pokémon, you can't use the PSS until Pretendo doesn't open servers for those games too
But Pretendo requires to HACK the 3DS and I kind of LACK the Technical KNOW HOW to do So that's its NOT worth permanently damaging both the 3DS and my computers hard drive at the same time.

When the online shuts off, we won't be able to get points for prizes anymore and more importantly, we can't challenge those absolute madlads who had insane Skill combinations for their armies that we could carry over into our game and snap the balance in half.
Pretendo will keep this wonderful little community alive. Man, I miss and love Fates and its online functionality - with Pretendo I can jump back in for the first time in years :)
Let's not forget the 3DS pokémon games, which were the last heyday of the proper GTS where you could REQUEST and OFFER specific pokémon in trades. I picked up Pokémon X the other day at random, and there were a surprising number of people online still offering boons, trades, battles, and just basic connectivity. They may not be the most popular or best generations from a gameplay standpoint, but there are some great connectivity features that simply went away with switch and are still badly missed.
I'm both glad and frustrated that you mentioned Pretendo. I'm glad you mentioned it in the first place, since it would help people know about it. I'm frustrated that you mentioned it so briefly and in such a negative way when you said you doubted anyone would go through the effort, when IMO you should've encouraged people to check out Pretendo and said that they would still be able to play these games online (especially SMM1 and Splatoon 1) if they check out and use Pretendo.
I think the bigger issues lie in games with unlockables/challenges that rely on online play. Kid Icarus Uprising, Fire Emblem Awakening, there’s content that’s just straight up gone thanks to that.
I’m not sure about Fire Emblem Awakening, but with KIU, you have to acquire feathers in the treasure hunts, and once you do that, you can use them on the online challenges that are otherwise impossible to complete. With Palutena’s board, however, you cannot waste a single feather. Waste one, and you’ll never be able to complete that board.
i play my 2ds everyday and honestly i cannot find anyone online or anything to do online tbh. to me its kinda just like everyone abandoned it. nobodys playing smash 4 or mario kart 7 anymore and barely anyones playing new leaf this feels less like "nintendos killing the 3ds and wii u!!" and more like nintendos giving a proper burial to something everyone left to die

Do you really not know about Pretendo and how virtually everything worth doing online with a 3DS or Wii U will STILL be possible come April 9th? I mean the whole rest of the world knows about it. Miiverse is making a comeback, we've been able to Freeshop on the Wii U for a while now, and online lives on beyond April 8th. Mod your console and use Pretendo!!!

Thanks for the shoutout! I was literally just playing splatoon 1 today! 3 is great, but the first game has a certain charm to it that I feel was never quite recaptured in the sequels. Also Urchin Underpass went through a redesign, and that updated version of the stage is ONLY accessible via online multiplayer, not the battle dojo or story stages, meaning that unless it’s added to Splatoon 3 it is going to be completely lost media in a way. RIP Wii U

Isn't there just an optional online battle mode in XCX? It doesn't seem like something that will be badly missed. I never even wanted to try it in the first place.
It's very annoying especially since some free content or downloads will also be gone. It's a strange timeline we are in where pre online feature games can have all the content on disc while wii and u plus 3ds you better have them saved or else.
The big examples that flash in my mind as examples of the free content are Fire Emblem Awakening as well as the Professor Layton games. Awakening had 6 chapters with 6 extra characters released as free dlc and those will just be gone now, in addition to the Layton games having over 800 puzzles as free dlc that will be lost as well.
I'm glad I can even get Splatoon 1 the best last days it will have. Once it's April 8th, I will move on and play the online modes for Splatoon 2 and 3 despite how sad this really seems to be right now.
Im sad this is happening, I never got to play online much due to having weak internet at the time. I only got to play online from either my relatives house or my brothers house. Now that I have better internet ive been using this as a chance to play what ive been missing out.
The PS3 was released in 2006 and was discontinued in 2017, but PSN still works on it. If Sony can keep online services on a 7th generation console alive, why can't Nintendo keep services on their 8th generation consoles alive? Nintendo is the only company that disables features on their discontinued consoles. It started with them removing channels on the Wii like the Weather and News channels. then they eventually removed the Wii shop. then they removed the Wii U and 3DS Eshop, and now they're removing online multiplayer on the Wii U and 3DS. By removing the Wii U and 3DS Eshop, they've also made it impossible to buy retro games on a modern Nintendo Console because they're not selling them on Switch.(Switch online is like a rental service)
Sadly there are other stuffs that also will be missed: Super Mario Maker: there are some mystery mushroom costumes available only on the special event's levels by Nintendo and not tied to an amiibo, also the alternative to get the costumes without using an amiibo will be lost. Animal Crossing: New Leaf: some items can only be gotten in the online mode of the island but since there are tons of other items locked behind amiibo and regional downloadable letters, no matter what the game was almost impossible to 100%. And I'm pretty sure there are more games with unlockable stuffs tied to the online.
There’s another thing for ACNL: the dream achievement. You have to use the dream suite and experience lots of dreams for the bronze silver and gold badges. 50 for bronze. 200 for silver. 500 for gold.

Honestly I'm going to miss the Wii u online and 3ds online for both my consoles. I met my first bestie on Wii u when we used to play Minecraft Together. We had lots of fun,we played lots of matches in Minecraft and we created so many worlds and memories. 1:35 Don't worry, I'll say it for you! Mario Kart 8's original battle mode on Wii U was a dumpster fire that shouldn't have been added in the first place to spare us all the disappointment and the Deluxe version is infinitely, *objectively* better.
For Splatoon 1, Mahi Mahi Resort changed the most. It doesn't even feel the same as Splatoon 1. It's only the same in name. There is another feature that will be gone is the Global Trading System from Gen 6 and 7. It is on Pokemon Home's mobile app but it just doesn't hit the same.

@smallBrainsPeckersEgos Also, running custom servers for one game isn't the same as keeping online servers for two separate consoles alive. Remember, almost every Wii U and 3DS game that used online ran on the exact same servers.
To be entirely fair in that case, that wasn't Nintendo's doing. Wii's internet went down because GameSpy, who were hosting the Wii servers, went out of business, and frankly considering the Wii U was already out by that point, I can't blame Nintendo not looking for a workaround. But this... Was completely avoidable, TBH.
It really makes you realize how stripped down the Switch is compared to the 3DS and Wii U. No Steetpass (I can understand since the Switch isn’t as portable as the 3DS) No Swapnote (always someone to ruin it for everyone) No FlipNote (the new one really didn’t have many features in our region compared to Japan’s) The New Leaf experience (RIP Rocco series, never to be seen, again.) I can go on, but you get my point.
You do realize that the Switch was riding the failure of the Wii U right? You can't just pack all those features in again just to have it fail. The Switch becoming successful was not in the cards for Nintendo.
The Switch Online service will also be gone forever. The Virtual Console must and has to return in the Switch successor. It will now be impossible to make subscription payments again.
7:54 the gutted mahi-mahi flounder Heights is not really high anymore, and is now one of my least favorite maps with the removal of some of the grates for options
Remember, it isn't really the end. Pretendo still exists, and it is *better* than the official servers, because it has resurrected Miiverse and Miiverse functionality! The Wii U and 3DS are here to stay. They will never die :)
Another aspect I forgot about, themes and the badge arcade, no reason they can't be transferable even to the Switch, and the Switch is super lacking in creativity with its menus. May seem trivial, but decorating your 3ds with themes and badges made it more special and unique. Those will be gone with the online, hell we won't even be able to switch badges out in the badge arcade with the online function gone. So do I settle on a Pokemon themed background? Smash Bros? Indie with Shantae, Box Boy, Shovel knight etc, or Mario? That's going to be a huge loss.
The battle mode in 8 was honestly really addicting, I really loved the concept it had and tracks like Toad's Harbour and Yoshi Valley were Excellent to play battle on. I'm really gonna miss that mode, it was So unique and will probably never return....
It's less bad than what people think. Fanservers are not done yet so we have to wait for full functionality, but they were already shaping up to be better than official because they restore previously shut down functionality...mostly Miiverse...and they are not regionlocked. The biggest issue being that the New3ds micro SD requires you to have a screwdriver for really small screws to homebrew and people like me can't be bothered to get one.(I tried to open it up, but I only managed to scratch up the inner coverplate really good. I guess if I ever want it modded, I need to pay someone to do it for me. I need outside help for restoring some worn down functionality anyways, and maybe replacing the C stick with one that does not suck nuts.)
Nintendo needs to step up its online in general, no reason that consoles almost 20 years old are set up better and still able to play online, while Nintendos last gen only lasted a good ten years and I actually loved the miiverse. That was probably the best thing they did it just never took off.
Why? The games were all improved over the original versions and had online play added. Three of the games may be redundant now, but they weren't (except arguably Golf due to "Wii Sports Resort") when the game was released, and it still has the best versions of Baseball and Boxing.
everyone should mod their 3ds & Wii U to join the Pretendo network after Nintendo abandon's us, modding the consoles is very easy thanks to great tutorials here on the tubes... thanks to the modders for all there hard work and dumbing it down for us, you guys are awesome.
You forgot to mention something about Animal Crossing New Leaf, some of the Badges in the profile card required Internet usage, one such example you did mention is the Dream Suite. Once you unlocked the Dream Suite, you would have countless hours of fun. It was fun visiting other dream towns and the online Tourtimer Island. It's really sad how certain badges are impossible to obtain now.
Truly the end of an Era. I remembered like it was just yesterday when I got my 3DS when I was in middle school and the Wii U in high school. From downloading and playing demos on the 3ds, watching Nintendo Video (such as Dinosaur Office, Rifle Spiral music video, Kid Icarus animation and that one Kirby Right Back at Ya 3D animation), to playing Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon religiously online on the Wii U. As well as posting a bunch on the Miiverse as if it were Facebook/Twitter. I still have my 3ds but sucks that I got rid of my Wii U and didn't get it again when they announced the closure of the eShop. To this day, I regret not getting it. But it is what it is. I genuinely enjoyed it all. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. I was hoping it could go a little further.
The largest loss is the removal of Pokemon Transporter connectivity. All of the old games prior to the switch are disconnected. Gen 3-5 can still transfer up, but 5 cannot transfer further. Gen 6 and Gen 7 are also separated from Gen 8.
For the love of god, a lot of people are asking this yet it is literally explained on the document Nintendo made. They are NOT removing Bank (+ transporter) support yet
The biggest succ is that you can already not get those anymore, you have to already have downloaded them. If nothing else, that is a good reason to go to the high seas.
Some other things we will be losing with Mario Kart 7 is the ability to pick any stage in the game in online races, in mario kart 8 and the deluxe version it only has a selection of 4

@@mds_main yea i litterly fired up my 3ds and checked twice, the one im missing is for all head gear but i got that prior to my save being corrupted, the only thngs you wont be able to get is every milestone and dlc trophys unless you bought every dlc
Ultimate definitely has online ones, but I checked the 3DS and WiiU challenges recently and they can all be gotten offline.
Thanks for the shoutout! I was literally just playing splatoon 1 today! 3 is great, but the first game has a certain charm to it that I feel was never quite recaptured in the sequels.
Also Urchin Underpass went through a redesign, and that updated version of the stage is ONLY accessible via online multiplayer, not the battle dojo or story stages, meaning that unless it’s added to Splatoon 3 it is going to be completely lost media in a way.

Xenoblade Chronicles X will definitely be missing a chunk of its game without online, that's gonna be sorely missed.
Isn't there just an optional online battle mode in XCX? It doesn't seem like something that will be badly missed. I never even wanted to try it in the first place.

It's very annoying especially since some free content or downloads will also be gone. It's a strange timeline we are in where pre online feature games can have all the content on disc while wii and u plus 3ds you better have them saved or else.
The big examples that flash in my mind as examples of the free content are Fire Emblem Awakening as well as the Professor Layton games. Awakening had 6 chapters with 6 extra characters released as free dlc and those will just be gone now, in addition to the Layton games having over 800 puzzles as free dlc that will be lost as well.

I'm glad I can even get Splatoon 1 the best last days it will have. Once it's April 8th, I will move on and play the online modes for Splatoon 2 and 3 despite how sad this really seems to be right now.
Im sad this is happening, I never got to play online much due to having weak internet at the time. I only got to play online from either my relatives house or my brothers house. Now that I have better internet ive been using this as a chance to play what ive been missing out.

The PS3 was released in 2006 and was discontinued in 2017, but PSN still works on it. If Sony can keep online services on a 7th generation console alive, why can't Nintendo keep services on their 8th generation consoles alive? Nintendo is the only company that disables features on their discontinued consoles. It started with them removing channels on the Wii like the Weather and News channels. then they eventually removed the Wii shop. then they removed the Wii U and 3DS Eshop, and now they're removing online multiplayer on the Wii U and 3DS. By removing the Wii U and 3DS Eshop, they've also made it impossible to buy retro games on a modern Nintendo Console because they're not selling them on Switch.(Switch online is like a rental service)
Please mod your 3DS and Wii U and use Pretendo. We need as many people on the replacement service as possible. Don’t just pack up and leave

Sadly there are other stuffs that also will be missed:
Super Mario Maker: there are some mystery mushroom costumes available only on the special event's levels by Nintendo and not tied to an amiibo, also the alternative to get the costumes without using an amiibo will be lost.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf: some items can only be gotten in the online mode of the island but since there are tons of other items locked behind amiibo and regional downloadable letters, no matter what the game was almost impossible to 100%.
And I'm pretty sure there are more games with unlockable stuffs tied to the online.
There’s another thing for ACNL: the dream achievement. You have to use the dream suite and experience lots of dreams for the bronze silver and gold badges. 50 for bronze. 200 for silver. 500 for gold.
I wish Pretendo was talked about more in this video, a single remark at the end will go over many heads

Honestly I'm going to miss the Wii u online and 3ds online for both my consoles. I met my first bestie on Wii u when we used to play Minecraft Together. We had lots of fun,we played lots of matches in Minecraft and we created so many worlds and memories. I'm going to miss those days where I used to play Online with my friend and played Mario Kart 8,Super Mario Maker and many more games that I played on Wii u. Goodbye Wii u and 3ds online. For Splatoon 1, Mahi Mahi Resort changed the most. It doesn't even feel the same as Splatoon 1. It's only the same in name. There is another feature that will be gone is the Global Trading System from Gen 6 and 7. It is on Pokemon Home's mobile app but it just doesn't hit the same.

My favourite Wii U Game is Super Mario 3D World and favourite 3DS Game is Pokémon Omega Ruby. Farewell Wii U and 3DS my friends of my childhood. 😢❤

@smallBrainsPeckersEgos Also, running custom servers for one game isn't the same as keeping online servers for two separate consoles alive. Remember, almost every Wii U and 3DS game that used online ran on the exact same servers.
And the funny-but-not-so-funny thing is that this happened almost 10 years ago to the Wii’s WFC.
To be entirely fair in that case, that wasn't Nintendo's doing. Wii's internet went down because GameSpy, who were hosting the Wii servers, went out of business, and frankly considering the Wii U was already out by that point, I can't blame Nintendo not looking for a workaround.
But this... Was completely avoidable, TBH.

You do realize that the Switch was riding the failure of the Wii U right? You can't just pack all those features in again just to have it fail.

The Switch Online service will also be gone forever. The Virtual Console must and has to return in the Switch successor. It will now be impossible to make subscription payments again.

I'd argue that the worst loss in Smash U/3DS is the custom attacks

@@RayoMcQueen95990 Neither do any of the other Smash Bros. losses, but you still won't be able to use them in online play anymore.
Remember, it isn't really the end. Pretendo still exists, and it is *better* than the official servers, because it has resurrected Miiverse and Miiverse functionality! The Wii U and 3DS are here to stay. They will never die :)

Another aspect I forgot about, themes and the badge arcade, no reason they can't be transferable even to the Switch, and the Switch is super lacking in creativity with its menus. May seem trivial, but decorating your 3ds with themes and badges made it more special and unique. Those will be gone with the online, hell we won't even be able to switch badges out in the badge arcade with the online function gone. So do I settle on a Pokemon themed background? Smash Bros? Indie with Shantae, Box Boy, Shovel knight etc, or Mario? That's going to be a huge loss.

Pokémon X and Y Sun and Moon
The battle mode in 8 was honestly really addicting, I really loved the concept it had and tracks like Toad's Harbour and Yoshi Valley were Excellent to play battle on.
I'm really gonna miss that mode, it was So unique and will probably never return....

It's less bad than what people think. Fanservers are not done yet so we have to wait for full functionality, but they were already shaping up to be better than official because they restore previously shut down functionality...mostly Miiverse...and they are not regionlocked. The biggest issue being that the New3ds micro SD requires you to have a screwdriver for really small screws to homebrew and people like me can't be bothered to get one.(I tried to open it up, but I only managed to scratch up the inner coverplate really good. I guess if I ever want it modded, I need to pay someone to do it for me. I need outside help for restoring some worn down functionality anyways, and maybe replacing the C stick with one that does not suck nuts.)
Nintendo needs to step up its online in general, no reason that consoles almost 20 years old are set up better and still able to play online, while Nintendos last gen only lasted a good ten years and I actually loved the miiverse. That was probably the best thing they did it just never took off.

Why? The games were all improved over the original versions and had online play added. Three of the games may be redundant now, but they weren't (except arguably Golf due to "Wii Sports Resort") when the game was released, and it still has the best versions of Baseball and Boxing.

You forgot to mention something about Animal Crossing New Leaf, some of the Badges in the profile card required Internet usage, one such example you did mention is the Dream Suite. Once you unlocked the Dream Suite, you would have countless hours of fun. It was fun visiting other dream towns and the online Tourtimer Island. It's really sad how certain badges are impossible to obtain now.

Truly the end of an Era. I remembered like it was just yesterday when I got my 3DS when I was in middle school and the Wii U in high school. From downloading and playing demos on the 3ds, watching Nintendo Video (such as Dinosaur Office, Rifle Spiral music video, Kid Icarus animation and that one Kirby Right Back at Ya 3D animation), to playing Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon religiously online on the Wii U. As well as posting a bunch on the Miiverse as if it were Facebook/Twitter.
I still have my 3ds but sucks that I got rid of my Wii U and didn't get it again when they announced the closure of the eShop. To this day, I regret not getting it. But it is what it is. I genuinely enjoyed it all. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. I was hoping it could go a little further.

The largest loss is the removal of Pokemon Transporter connectivity. All of the old games prior to the switch are disconnected. Gen 3-5 can still transfer up, but 5 cannot transfer further. Gen 6 and Gen 7 are also separated from Gen 8.
For the love of god, a lot of people are asking this yet it is literally explained on the document Nintendo made. They are NOT removing Bank (+ transporter) support yet

The biggest succ is that you can already not get those anymore, you have to already have downloaded them. If nothing else, that is a good reason to go to the high seas.
