Do you have a left handed version of this video? If you are left handed, you can convert ANY video on RUclips yourself! Simply go to www.mirrorthevideo.com/ and follow the instructions to mirror flip any video to convert to left handed!
How much yarn will I need? This is a very tricky question to answer as there are so many variables! How much yarn you need will depend on which yarn you choose, the thickness of that yarn, your tension and how large you want your finished project to be. I suggest making a small sample first so you can gauge how much yarn you'll need. If making a crochet square, you can weigh your finished square to work out how much yarn it used!
How many squares do I need for a blanket? That all depends on the size of the square you are making and how big you want your finished blanket to be! I always advise making one square first then measuring the size of it. From there you can work out how many squares you will need to get the blanket size you want 😀
Do you have the written pattern? Yes! I have written patterns to accompany my video tutorials on my website here: www.hookedbyrobin.com The written pattern is generally released a week or so after the video tutorial to ensure there are no errors in the video itself and to make amendments in the written version if any are found. All the written patterns are FREE to access on my website
How can I print the pattern from your website? Do you have downloadable PDF's? Not at this time no. This may change in the future but for now, I only provide the written pattern directly on my website.
Can you remake this video so it is slower? If the video speed is too fast, you can slow it down! 😀 See this video on exactly how: • How to Adjust the Spee...
Why do you use American stitch terminology? I learnt using USA stitch terms, long before I even knew there was a difference between UK & US terminology! American terms are my "first language" so to speak. If you need a conversion chart, I have one here! www.hookedbyrobin.com/crochet...

Love it! How do you end the last row? (Fill in the spaces)
Ah! Good question!!! I can't believe I didn't add that into the video 🤦♀️
For the final row, instead of doing double crochets either side of the spike, do *SINGLE crochet, double crochet spike stitch, SINGLE crochet*
So sorry to have left that off! I will pin this comment for others to see 🙂
Thank you so much for asking that! And thank you, Robin, for answering 💚
Literally cannot believe I didn't film that. 🤦♀️
Hooked by Robin I don’t get it? 😕 I’ll try it once I start a practice piece. Love the pattern though.
@@dianeky617 I can do a really quick video to show you if that helps? X
Robin, you are the best person to learn from ❤. I have been learning from you for a couple of years. God bless you for helping all of us crocheters!❤🌺🌼🌹🥰🧡
Awh, thank you so much - that is lovely to read!🥰
Excellent tutorial! Great explanation and You went slowly enough to follow along. I can't wait to try this stitch. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I never knew about this stitch, it's lovely. I love your tutorials you make them so clear and easy to understand 😊
Thank you so much Vanessa!🥰🌸
This works up really well using Lion brand Mandala or other similar yarn. It makes a lovely baby blanket.
"Everything is folding up and being quite angry" may be the best sentence related to yarncraft ever; it certainly made me chuckle. Thank you for another great video, I enjoy them almost as much as I enjoy putting the information to use!
That sentence could also be applied to me personally LOL!!! 🤣🤣🤣
That is a great phrase!! Made me laugh too 😜😂❤️🧶 Thank you for the fun learning experience Robin!!
I laughed at that expression too! Robin is a very entertaining communicator!💜
Yeah I tried and my yarn was screaming at me. Row 2 was definitely fiddly so what I did was make a single crochet foundation row to thicken up the chain, before working the first row. Seemed to "squish" a little less. I was able to pull up a bit looser having that thicker base row. I looooove this pattern!
So true! ☺
This is new to me. I've always loved the old stand by granny square by never heard of the spike. But I do love patterns where a color dips into another like a spike, or the Larksfoot etc. I'm terrible at reading patterns. I'm more of a visual learner. Thank goodness for wonderful people like you on RUclips!! 💗
I'm a fan too - anything that looks interesting colour wise / stitch wise but has nice straight rows - far less brain power required than for a chevron 😂
I am terrible at reading patterns as well. But Robin makes her videos so clearly and easy. I always come to Robin to learn any new stitches. ❤❤
You're always the best teacher, making the impossible quite possible!
Thank you so much Carol, that’s so kind!🥰x
I love the larger hook & yarn-
much more visible.
A game changer!
Thank you!
💖🌸🌼🌺🌹🌻💐☺🌷
I love the way the stitch comes out. So easy
Absolutely love this pattern and right up my alley. I also love your reference to the naughty corner. I’ve got a couple of those for projects that were a little advanced for me and taking me FOREVER to get through a row. Thank you for giving a FREE tutorial especially now at the time we’re all stuck inside.💕☮️✝️
I have done this pattern before but it was called a long-double crochet stitch (LDC) and it's very effective over a whole blanket. Thx you
Love this stitch pattern! Gorgeous color choices, too. Thanks for sharing your process!🌸
Love the texture & combination of stitches. So simple.
I love the colors of your 2 blankets. I will have to do this for my scarfs and maybe try it in a hat.
This is a new stitch for me. You are very easy to learn from and my go to for tutorials. Anytime that I want to learn a new stitch, I immediately look for a tutorial by you. Thank you for your time and being such a pleasure to learn from.
I love this stitch! I’m new to crocheting, I take care of my grandmother who has Alzheimer’s and dementia, and it takes a toll mentally seeing someone you love lose the memories they’ve spent a lifetime making! I decided to learn how to crochet to keep my mind occupied and busy, and it’s been the best thing I have done! I am on my second blanket and I’m good at it! This is almost my second month crocheting, and I’ve learned how to do it by watching RUclips videos! Haha Thank you for sharing this easy stitch, I may use it for my next blanket.❤
Oh definitely Jennifer.🤗 But I am glad you’re finding crochet is helping you at this difficult time. Crochet is absolutely my therapy too!🥰x
You make these stitches very clear and doable! Thank you!
I really love this stitch. I have not used it before but it will look great on a blanket. Beautiful colors too
Creative Grandma has a "Granny Twist" that's just like this. Seen and tried it a few months ago. Love your channel, a good source when I get stuck with what to do next. Thanks for sharing!

This is such a pretty stitch, I love to have yarn amount needed for afghan.
Your choice of colors and yarn for you “naughties” (I think that’s what you called them) is beautiful. I’ve used this stitch for a couple of projects a while back but not lately.
This is a beautiful stitch that I will be using to make a blanket with my scrap yarn. I love a scrap blanket.
This is beautiful. I've not done this stitch before. I love it!!!
🥰🧶
I have been starting and re-starting my latest Afghan since last August. It never really looked th way I wanted until I found your video. I like this pattern, thanks for making it so easy
I love this twist on the granny stitch…I like the fact that there are not a lot of holes in it, and the fact that it looks like waves when you change colors…thanks for such a beautiful way to do the variation of the granny square stitch…I am going to make a lap blanket for my best friend now….I know she will love it like I do!
Thanks
I love the yellow, grey and white and will copy it. Thanks for a wonderful tutorial
I've made three scarves with red heart ombre yarn so far, and I absolutely LOVE how they look and feel in this pattern! Thank you so much for all the heard work you put into these videos, they are lovely and you have a great voice for teaching!

Thank you Rosemary! 😃🥰
Fantastic ❤ I love that pattern in yellow and white . You are really professional in choosing colours 👍
Love this stitch. I love the effect the rows create. I’ve been a knitter for 40 years. Psoriatic arthritis has started to make knitting very difficult and it seriously has depressed me. I’ve always been kind of intimidated by crochet but I’m staring at my yarn stash and dying to give it a go. So thank you for these tutorials. 💕
Robin where have you been. Your my teacher. Please don't go away.
I love the gray, white and good blanket. It was beautiful colors

Wow, I’ve been searching and searching for a really nice blanket pattern that wasn’t difficult to crochet. These days I prefer using chunky yarn, it goes much faster for me. I like the various colors, makes it more appealing to the eye. Yes, it’s new to me. I liked how you showed in your tutorial how really easy this is to make. 😊
It really is!😀 I have all my blanket videos together here too(if that helps?):

Lost it earlier and tried many other tutorials - could NOT get organised - ended up with 16 fingers and a horrible mess.

What skill was the biggest challenge for you ?
Just the stitch I've been looking for, a low hole stitch to make a blanket for my son in law, thank you very much , so easy to do but looks great❤
You’re welcome Linda and enjoy making your blanket!😃
I seen this but never realized it was a version of the Granny Stitch! This is really nice thank you! Something to do well we're all social distancing!
Love this. 💕 I have never done this stitch and I look forward to trying it. 🙏🏻 Thank you.
Yes, I love it too and using my sample in a cotton for a small wash cloth. Its doable for a beginner like me.
Thank you so much for this tutorial it's very clear and easy to understand. I'm visually impaired so don't find it easy to read patterns so really appreciate your tutorials and learn new stitches with your help :)
The gold, white, & dark blue/black is a nice color combination. Looks good. Other one I separated the blue green colors and make another blanket with them. Great job on both Nice stitching
love it, so simple but very elegant. Going to make one in a variegated purple and variegated grey.
This is the pattern I chose to use my 75 colors of yarn. It's such a lovely combo of stitches that seems to blend any colors you choose. I especially love the colors you used for the baby blanket, it looks almost baroque style and so elegant, it does NOT deserve to be in your naughty pile! The rainbow-like blanket, well, I didn't like the darker blue with white stripes in that one. Just my humble opinion. I can't wait to start on my huge blanket with this stitch pattern, THANK YOU!!
Just lovely! I worked right along with you. Thank you!
I’ve been looking for a stitch I haven’t done before for a winter blanket and I’m going to try this stitch thanks for the tutorial. 😊🇦🇺

Thank you for sharing your pattern. I love that your yarn color choice and your background color is great-very easy to see what you're doing. And I love that it is closed up. Keep it up. Thanks again. I shall use your patter as soon as I finish my WIP project.

I crochet rectangles for Warm Up America and this is a great one. Thanks.
The colors are gorgeous on both. Especially the gold white and gray
My biggest fear is how long it takes to finish a blanket . Have you ever started something you couldn't finish ?
I may have to try this. I brainstorming my next blanket and looking at new stitches to try. This look like one I will have consider.

Choosing your tutorial was easy because I could clearly understand your instructions and see it! I am a deep East Texan and older, so I really enjoy your accent! Thanks again, Shirley
