    About the game:
Bloodborne is a 2015 action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. Bloodborne follows the player's character, a Hunter, through the decrepit Gothic, Victorian-era-inspired city of Yharnam, whose inhabitants are afflicted with a blood-borne disease. Attempting to find the source of the plague, the player's character unravels the city's mysteries while fighting beasts and cosmic beings.
The game is played from a third-person perspective. Players control a customizable protagonist, and the gameplay is focused on strategic weapons-based combat and exploration. Players battle varied enemies while using items such as swords and firearms, exploring different locations, interacting with non-player characters, and unravelling the city's mysteries. Bloodborne began development in 2012 under the working title of Project Beast. Bearing many similarities to the Souls series of games by the same developer and director, Bloodborne was inspired by the literary works of authors H. P. Lovecraft and Bram Stoker and the architectural design of real-world locations in countries such as Romania, the Czech Republic and Scotland.
Bloodborne was released in March 2015 and received critical acclaim, with praise directed at its gameplay, particularly its high difficulty level, atmosphere, sound design, Lovecraftian themes, and interconnected world design. Some criticism was directed at its technical performance at launch, which was improved with post-release updates. An expansion adding additional content, The Old Hunters, was released in November 2015. By the end of 2015, the game had sold over two million copies worldwide. Bloodborne won several awards and has been cited as one of the greatest video games ever made. Some related media and adaptations have also been released, including a card game, board game and comic book series. shoutout wikipedia lol

Just be careful when you level up, it's not like elden ring when you level up a little all the stats. In general in Bloodborne you must first search for a certain build before leveling up, for the beginner the more frequent is in the strength or in the dexterity but when you know more the game you can try other stats like bloodtinge or arcane (the most difficult stat to make a build in my opinion) but the more you will know about the game the more you will enjoy the game.

I'm sure you already got dozens of people telling you this but, one of the big mechanics to Bloodborne is a more aggressive combat style. Rather than backing up and healing, when you get hit the game gives you a couple seconds to hit something and get your blood back. You'll start to notice a more orangeish portion or your health bar when you take a hit, that's a portion you can reclaim by quickly retaliating.

A good strategy when you have a lot of echoes to spare is buy blood vials at the shop in the Hunter's dream. You can only carry 20 blood vials with you, but you can store infinite ammount of them. That way when you die allways spawn with your full 20 charges. It will save a lot of time farming vials and trust me you are going to need a lot of them.

@@matiasgago Health is a pretty powerful stat in general since blood vials work percentage based. Your stamina stat on the other hand can stay quiet low as long as you manage it properly which just means making little breaks to reg and avoid dropping it to 0 infront of an attacking enemy. Maybe you want some extra points to have enough for one extra hit with certain weapons tho.
Bloodbullets are a quiet interesting mechanic too which many people only see as an emergency device and therefor rarely use. Its totaly fine to go at it that way however you can also see it the other way around. Every bloodbullet you use saves you one normal bullet therefor in theory as long as you have some spare vials it is quiet efficient to use your health to create ammo (5 bullets cost 30% max hp, 1 vial gives 40%). This is especially true when you use the rally mechanic instead of vials to replenish the costs. Savest way to do that is when sneaking up to someone. Most badass way is to make bb right befor a parry to get the hp back by critting. However hurting yourself right befor you engage in combat is also an easy way to die if something goes wrong. As i said you can totaly ignore this mechanic and still do fine. Just wanted to let you know thats a thing you can play around with.
Edit: The shortcut you just opened is actually a pretty good spot for that. First enemy is a guy with his back turned, perfect to get some free bullets right away.

    • @mordraug
      @mordraug 2 года назад +3

You cannot store infinite amount of blood vials, but indeed, you are supposed to buy them. Not farm them. At best farming lots of echoes so you can buy them. A lot of people get annoyed when they have to farm, but mainly because they farm the vials themselves and do not buy them instead like advised. Any blood vial drop from an enemy is only a small bonus.

I started with Dark Souls (1), played 2 and 3, Sekiro, Elden Ring, loads of other souls-like games, and finally earlier this year I bought an overheating PS4 for £40, refurbished it (new fan, thermal pads, paste, clean out) purely so I could play Bloodborne after it became apparent Sony will never port it to PC, or even update it. I'm really glad I did, but man is it unpleasant to play a souls game at 30fps with no anti-aliasing.... im far too used to a standard of 60, and even that feels a little sluggish because of being used to 60-144 in most other games. Saying that, I would say that it is easily my second/third favourite From Software game after Elden Ring and Sekiro (not sure which wins out of BB and Sekiro). If they release a remaster on PC/PS5, it very well could move up a spot because I feel like technical performance did effect my opinions on a subconscious level.

Frame pacing is terrible, the framerate is unstable, the resolution is low, the Chromatic Aberration they use in place of anti-aliasing just doesn't work. The gameplay/art direction are incredible, but they don't make it easy to appreciate in 2022. I'm hoping it gets the Demon's Souls treatment in the future.

A tip for parries and counters in the older games: after you hit the parry step forward then do your attack for the counter. Something with the timing or distance on the parry animation puts you just out of range if you attack immediately after the parry and sort of wastes the stun. Still free damage either way 💜

@@matiasgago two tips since I noticed you haven't learnt it yet in any of the videos. You can do a jump attack by pressing forward and R2 at the same time. The game never tells you this, but it's the same controls as in dark souls. Good for gap closing and powerful with certain weapons.
Another one that I found useful is chaining a parry into attack combos. The enemies have a certain rythem and the saw weapons work well with it. It'll depend on the enemy, but typically you can chain a parry into a combo which will time it perfectly with an enemy attack. For example, the gray dudes with canes in Cathedral ward can typically get parried with a R1 + R1 + L2 combo as they'll be attacking by the time you finished your first two attacks.
Each enemy has their own timing (if they can get parried), but it's super helpful when your cornered and shits hitting the fan.

A few differences make Bloodborne combat unique to the standards souls formula.
Here is a quick rundown of them and a summary.
    1. All weapons are trick weapons with their own unique move set. You get additional movesets if you attack during the trick weapon transition moveset.
    2. Like the geneva convention, guns are merely a suggestion in Bloodborne. But shooting an enemy during an attack grants you the arcane ability to plunge your fist into their ribcage and pull their hearts out, aka parry. Parry your enemies with a fucking gun.
    3. You also have the arcane enemy to heal damage immediately taken if you hit your enemies. To balance this, you no longer have a supply of estus that recharges upon rests. If you run out of blood viles, you must farm or purchase them.
    4. If you are in combat(lock on), your dodge rolls become side steps. When out of combat(not locked on), they are your standard rolls.
In summary, don't be a bitch and face enemies head on. Aggression and fast paced combat is what Bloodborne strives for.

Top tip is definitely regarding blood vials and bullets being non-replenished consumables.
One of the main frustrations people have with this (almost flawless) game is having to farm vials and bullets.
Taking the extra time to kill mobs on runbacks can save you from having to go out of your way to farm stuff later.
Vials get more expensive in the shop as you progress the game, try to buy more earlygame.
Pay attention to what mobs consistently drop vials/bullets, in case you have to farm later.
When learning a bossfight, be mindful of how many vials you're spending. Though if it's your first attempt, feel free to go all out.
After all one-shotting the boss will save you the most vials 😎

You can use summons in this game on some bosses, but they are very strong, I wouldn't use them unless its a last resort.

Hell yeah!! I'm happy you enjoyed your first foray as much as you did! As for how you did, you're doing fantastic. Your "fromsoft intuition" is serving you well already, and you've figured out a lot of the small things I would've suggested anyway, like using the pebbles for pulling individual enemies. So honestly I'm confident you'll find your groove here very quickly! I know that there are a lot of gameplay suggestions here in the comments already so I'll shy away from that. Instead I'd suggest that you continue to admire the small details like you did with that fence and the architecture! This game is a lot smaller in scope than Elden Ring, but it's VERY VERY dense with tons of interesting things to notice. So take your time and stop to smell the roses when the mood strikes you. And as you've noticed already, this game relies more on shortcuts instead of having a lot of lamps/graces. Often you'll find a path loops back in and BAM, back at a rest stop. Which to me is even more satisfying when you've been paying attention to the environment like you're doing. Savoring this game is the way to go imo! Can't wait for you to start piecing together the story too, it's definitely one of the best in gaming as a whole. Keep it up dude!!

I like the sound effect when you heal, it reminds me of the sound in Ghostbusters when they power up their proton backpack things :)
