Cooper Stuff Ep. 190 - Why Are You So Political?

  • One question that I get asked often is “Why are you so political?” In fact, I think that confusion over politics is one of the greatest challenges to the church today and is causing massive division. This episode is the simplest explanation possible for why we cannot escape politics. Secondly, I discuss how secular social justice has twisted true justice, turning it on its head. Many Christians have fallen for this and have fought for secular social justice. And even though the results of their policies have caused much pain for the very communities that they aimed to help, these Christians never apologize; they never repent; and they never change course.

Oh my goodness! I'm also autistic and feel that way about those two songs. I wish I could let her know that God has a special task for her and He didn't need someone 'normal' He made HER for this task. It sounds like she's figured that out already. Praying for her.

I don’t think it’s strange at all. The Democrats have ideas more inline with the Bible and Christian teachings than Trump and his cult do. With the possible exception of abortion, what Republican issues are Christian?

This is exactly on point Justice is not the opposite of love, but inseparable from it. For God is both Love and Just; His mercy triumphs over His justice because someone already paid the price.

Most modern Christians don't understand that politics is just down wind of your worldview, so of course we should be involved in the political. I would add the things that I care about the most and you seem to as well is the moral issues (abortion, homosexuality, transgenderism, etc.) The fact that so many "Christians" are so willing to dismiss everything as being political is really telling of the modern church. Keep fighting brother.

The story about the autistic girl at the beginning was good to hear. God bless her. Honestly it’s a good lesson to hear as Christians dealing with what you often talk about. It doesn’t matter if the world likes you or even if other Christians like you. What’s important is what God thinks of you. And He loves us ofc!

I've read the book and some of the things you talk about in this podcast, you also mention in it. It's impressive how everything's intertwinned in this culture nowadays. The criticisms of Wimpy, Weak and Woke that start and stop with the title don't do justice to the book, which is enticing and interestind and quite profound, and really makes one want to immerse in the battle for the West. Of course Christians and Christianity hava a lot to say about politics, justice and culture, because, like it or not, the West was founded on Christian values and structures and that still shows today. Keep up the good work!

    "Politics is morality applied"
Just as you said that, I was typing that I've heard someone say "Politics is legislated morality". I like your wording better.
You 100% spot on. If you think Christians shouldn't "be involved" in politics, then you are basically conceding the morality of your nation to people who have no basis for the existence of objective morality. Sounds like a recipe for a great moral society! And very loving to the future victims. If our legislation is no longer tied to an objective morality, we get... what we're starting to get now.
"Sure, robbery might be wrong sometimes... but since there's no objective morality anyway, THIS kind of robbery is ok..."
I know sounds crazy, that could never happen, other than our "summer of love" a couple years ago where many people were excusing the actions of Burn Loot Murder because "tHeY'Re OpPrEsSed!" As if being mistreated in the past is a justification for assaulting and robbing innocent people today.
If you untether objective Christian morality from our laws, then sure... why not? Nothing is actually WRONG. Just unpreferred by some bags of evolved spacedust.

I truly see that many christains mistake/ allow sin to be identified as politics.
I like to put it like this, you know the saying, "the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist".
I'll go a step farther to say "the greatest trick he is pulling right now is convincing many within the church that sin is politics". Therfore leaving many churches to ignore the sin that is promoted within the world.

I need help! I am Interested in listening to podcasts or RUclips channels that dive deep into Bible study, that is not NAR or woke or progressive. I love your videos, and it has inspired me to know my Bible deeper. I started with a podcast called BEMA but they support Richard roar and claim some Bible stories are just made up stories to help teach people morals. I liked them at first because they went very slowly all the way from genesis and spoke on Hebrew and Greek meanings of words and how it could be translated differently, and what historical things were happening at the time that is culturally different than today. But I don’t want to keep listening knowing they are progressive. What are some safe resources that still dive into the Bible slowly in detail?thank you!

Having been raised evangelical/non-denominational, there was a pervasive feeling that the body really didn't matter. I think it may be a bit of and over correction from the gnostic idea that the body and soul are entirely independent of one another. There is a Catholic mode of thought that I think might be a bit more accurate: that the body and soul are intertwined. Now, I still don't believe that the body has any part of the individual after death, unlike Jews and Catholics, but I believe that it makes sense that the body is integrally a part of the self while in carnal form. I believe this is the purpose for Jesus having incarnated into a physical being while at the same time still being spirit. And if it was important for christ to come in the form of man, and that God spent physical time creating a physical world for us to inhabit and who told us our purpose was to tend to the garden and to fill the world and subdue it, could we extrapolate that the physical world is of import because we are currently physical beings? And if the physical world is of import, ought, we not be good stewards of the world in which we find ourselves? I don't believe that our struggle not being with flesh and blood was intended to exclude that flesh and blood. In a binary conflict between the spiritual and physical, the spiritual (the infinite, heaven) ought to be a foremost importance but that doesn't exclude by necessity the physical world. In fact, the physical world and the physical bodies, which are part of ourselves influence greatly our spiritual well-being and future. Great talk today, Coop.

    Biblical stewardship includes politics.
Politics starts between man and wife. The two agree on rules and best practices to ensure the fruitfulness of their home, sometimes through compromise and negotiation.
Politics continues between neighbors. The two agree on rules and best practices to ensure the fruitfulness of their neighborhood, sometimes through compromise and negotiation.
Politics continues between neighborhoods. They agree on rules and best practices to ensure the fruitfulness of their town, sometimes through compromise and negotiation.
Politics continues between towns. They agree on rules and best practices to ensure the fruitfulness of their region, sometimes through compromise and negotiation.
Politics continues between regions. They agree on rules and best practices to ensure the fruitfulness of their State, sometimes through compromise and negotiation.
Politics continues between States. They agree on rules and best practices to ensure the fruitfulness of their Nation, sometimes through compromise and negotiation.
Politics finally extends between Nations. They agree on rules and best practices to ensure the fruitfulness of the World, sometimes through compromise and negotiation.
Jesus was a deeply political figure. Since ancient Israel politics was rooted in their faith, each time Jesus confronted faith leaders, He was also confronting political ones.
Biblical stewardship includes politics. I did an entire sermon on this topic and it's on my channel.

Jesus's first coming, was to sanctify a people unto Himself. This is why He didn't set up an earthly kingdom. He had a specific mission. That one clown, Matt Chandler, who shrieked and yelled, "YOU'RE NOT DAVID", him and others who say that being political is setting up the kingdom of man instead of ministering the Gospel - they obviously think then that we are Jesus, when Jesus didn't call us to. Only Jesus could atone for sin. Yet these clowns who process faith, say that we should stay out of politics and, basically, be Jesus.
