Many men in the military are extremely hardheaded and want to be on their own path in life, not sheep led to a slaughter. Don't assume the military is full of morons willing to die because big jocko told them to. It's not. It's full of people. And people want to be in control of their life. You know what people also want to be in control? The kids that are raped, tortured, and murdered in front of their families by organizations in the middle east. The women that are amputated and blinded, barely kept alive for the worst scum on the planet to fuck repeatedly whenever they want. Sometimes for a message to the others to prevent cooperation with other forces and sometimes just for the hell of it. Plenty of men understand this. And plenty of men are willing to die to stop it. There is corruption in every system including the military. It's not perfect. I'm sure some company influences the powers that be at some level to attack city A rather than city B even if, to an unbiased eye, city B is the better choice. But we don't live in some fully corrupted system that is sending hordes to die for absolutely nothing. No group of men with any value for themselves in a country like ours would constantly volunteer their lives to die for an unknown or superficial cause. If you heard the personal stories from the men sent to do the work you'd have a better perspective on this than one fueled entirely by anger and skepticism.
"Subordinate your ego" is a really great way to look at your relationship with your own ego. So it's a part of your 'team' (i.e. personality), but you have to keep it in check as a member of the team, not overriding the rest of the team

I agree with Jocko about standing your ground as a kid against bullies. When exuding confidence to engage in confrontation, you can stare down the bully, and have him recognize the situation, and walk away. That's how I got through my younger years.

I’ve been listening to Jocko since he started. A lot of what he says seems like common sense to me, maybe because I’ve worked for people who had this type of leadership style (I.e. owning problems, empowering people to solve problems, check your ego at the door, etc) but I love that he’s bringing these messages to the masses. The world needs it right now. When I’ve worked for someone that has a top down leadership style I always ended up losing motivation and interest.

Very inciting video.I love the leadership part which was lacking on every place I worked.I also love the part about “ time tables” I grew up without emotional support from my parents they’re so caught up with their own issues I did it on my own and grew up on my own.I was bullied when I was growing up I stood up on my own my parents didn’t know about it and until now that I’m a grown woman as a Nurse,there are still grown bullies in the healthcare field I am in ….I got to a point if I still want to be a Nurse anymore.

I did read so far only extreme ownership. But also planing to get the rest of his books 📚 and also watched him at Joe Rogan twice at different times absolutely one of the wisest,real man that I admire among few other’s. Also because I have been in military myself I feel little closer connection and lot what he says it’s close to me .✊🏼
I'm starting to see the overlap between his books, Simon Sinek's books, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and Never Split the Difference in terms of psychology, leadership, communication, human nature, and other nuances.

No right or wrong answer but I really like the way Jocko explains things and applies real world examples to his leadership principles. I honestly can’t say I know enough about John Maxwell.

Very inciting video.I love the leadership part which was lacking on every place I worked.I also love the part about “ time tables” I grew up without emotional support from my parents they’re so caught up with their own issues I did it on my own and grew up on my own.I was bullied when I was growing up I stood up on my own my parents didn’t know about it and until now that I’m a grown woman as a Nurse,there are still grown bullies in the healthcare field I am in ….I got to a point if I still want to be a Nurse anymore.
I listen to the Jocko podcasts as a reference when it comes to learning how to 'effectively' perform as a team.
You both are my role models. Every single sentence of Jocko's books are so invaluable. I look forward to meeting Tom in Melbourne on Feb 11th.

I did read so far only extreme ownership. But also planing to get the rest of his books 📚 and also watched him at Joe Rogan twice at different times absolutely one of the wisest,real man that I admire among few other’s. Also because I have been in military myself I feel little closer connection and lot what he says it’s close to me .✊🏼

I'm starting to see the overlap between his books, Simon Sinek's books, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and Never Split the Difference in terms of psychology, leadership, communication, human nature, and other nuances.

Alex Paul if you haven’t already, check Robert Greene. His books are fantastic and cover much more ground, specially in the human nature aspect.

I like the interviewer. I have no clue who he is but he's on target and very open about himself and past.
Jocko's book discipline equals freedom and listening to his podcast has dramatically changed my life for the better. I wake up every day at 5am (4am is just too damn early lol) get my workout in and start my day on the right foot! Like if you do the same
