    Here are the instructions straight out of the owner's manual of my 1996 Cherokee XJ for how to program your key fob / clicker.

      I'm pretty sure the 97 and on use a radio frequency fob instead of an IR like this one. You should be able to to buy a generic Jeep fob at AutoZone or the like and program it but I don't know the exact details on how to do that.

    No one can figure out how to program the 2x button to remote start the JEEP wrangler though. I can press all 3 buttons at once and remote start it but not with the freaking 2x button....

    My key fob doesn’t have a light on it does it still work the same process?

      If it looks the same as the factory key fob it should be okay, but if it is not I don't know of any aftermarket key fobs that work with this system.

    Would this work on a 2000 XJ? i don't see this in my owners manual.

      Ignore that first reply. I thought it was for a different video. To my knowledge this doesn't work on the 97 and newer XJ. They use a radio frequency FOB where as the 96 and earlier are infrared. There is probably a way to program the 97 and newer on your own but I don't know what the procedure is. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

      +Carlos faz jr They switched from IR (infrared) to RF (radio frequency) in either 99 or 00 so i'm not sure about how to program those. It should be similar but I don't know the specifics. A google search for the instructions will probably bring up several forum threads that may prove useful. If that doesn't work you can always buy an owners manual for your year and the instructions are probably in it. You'll also have to purchase the correct fob (clicker) for it to send the appropriate frequency. The easiest thing to do will be to go to a dealer and pay about $200. The cheapest thing to do will be to find the chrysler part number for the fob and find that fob on ebay along with an owner's manual. Make sure the fob is the correct part number or you're just wasting money. DO NOT buy a "Universal" fob. They don't work. Best of luck.

    What year cherokee mine is a 01 xj

      This is for pre '97 models. The 97 and up use radio frequency rather than IR. I think you can also program those yourself but you'd need to find a 97+ owners manual for the instructions.

    would this work for a mk2 version you think ?

    • @theinternets7516
      @theinternets7516  8 лет назад

      What is an mk2 verion? If that is the FOB type then probably not. If it uses IR you could give it a try but the factory FOBs are the only ones that I have used for this.

    I did this, but I did something wrong. The locks cycled, but then it wouldn't work. I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country.
    I think I did something wrong. Is there a way to reprogram it, if you do it wrong? I have tried 3 or 4 times.
    Thanks.

    • @theinternets7516

      You just go through those steps again to reprogram it. Try sitting in the jeep and aiming the clicker at the little black receiver and see if that will work. Since it uses IR instead of radio frequency it is pretty finicky and will not work if you are not aiming the clicker right at it. It is designed to be used at about three feet away from the vehicle and no more than nine feet away and you have to aim it at the receiver for it to work. This means that if there is anything other than your window in the way it will not lock or unlock the doors. If you give all that a try and it still isn't working you might want to make sure the batteries are good on the clicker. It should have a red light that comes on in the top right corner each time you push one of the buttons if the battery is good. Let me know how it goes.

    • @sytesstealurdata7808

      Thanks for responding quickly. The red light on the fob does come on. I will try it again tomorrow in daylight. I'm discouraged, because it did cycle the locks the first time.

    • @theinternets7516
      @theinternets7516  7 лет назад

      If the locks cycled and the red light is coming on it may just be your aim. It takes a little practice to know where to aim from outside the vehicle to get it to unlock on the first or second try. The easiest way to test it is to just get in and point the fob right at the receiver from about 12 inches away and push the lock and unlock buttons. If this doesn't work then try to reprogram it and if then doesn't get it then I really don't know. What I can tell you is that a dealership can't help you with the matter. I initially tried to get my fob programmed by a dealer and after 3 hours they told me it was impossible to do and then I found the instructions in my owners manual and it worked. Best of luck!

    • @theinternets7516
      @theinternets7516  7 лет назад

      Also, did you follow steps 8 and 9 of the instructions. The programming won't actually remain permanent if you don't follow those two steps as well. You may have to reprogram it and be sure to turn of the ignition within 20 seconds of the locks cycling and then while you're still sitting in the jeep go ahead and push the unlock and lock button a few times to be sure the programming worked.
