DIY: Programming a Dodge Keyless Remote

- Video tutorial on how to program or add a new remote to your Dodge. This particular Dodge product I am working with is a 2003 Dodge Dakota, but this procedure does apply to other Dodge models, as well as Chrysler, Plymouth, and Jeep models. In order to add or program a keyless remote, you must have a working existing one. Up to four keyless remotes can be programmed to one vehicle. When adding or programming remotes, you must add all the extra remotes within 30 seconds during the programming sequence.

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-working keyless remote
-new keyless remote
Procedure:
-to program a remote, turn the ignition switch to the ON position but not with the engine running
-press and hold the unlock button on a currently working remote for 4 to 10 seconds
-while pressing the unlock button, press and release the panic button
-release the unlock button which should be followed by a chime
-this will indicate that the module is in programming mode
-within 30 seconds, press and release the lock or unlock button on the new remote at the same time
-then do this same step for any other remotes you wish to add to the system
-successful programming will be indicated by a single chime

Thank you for this video. I just bought a spare remote from a local dealer and they told me it takes 45 mins for it to program. I just followed your instructions and it worked. it saved me $90 of unnecessary labor. the dealer tried to rip me off.

@@4DIYers Wow, Just bought my Chrysler Neon fob from eBay today and i was worried cause it is not new... But my worry is, unlock button just didn't work today.... I suspect it is torn rubber button

I have a 2003 Chrysler Voyager. After purchasing two new keks and two new fobs I began looking for any programming help the internet might offer. I was happy to find out that owning two programmed remotes and keys, I can perform a DIY process to get things working. Another video helped me get the keys working. This video really helped me get the fobs working. It was the only one I could find that mentions "you have to reprogram ALL the fobs once you get the car into a "learn" mode. The other videos never mention this. It's critical to know this. Because even the original fob has to be programmed during the sequence. If you don't, that original fob WON'T WORK. So program all fobs new AND old during the "learn" mode. Thanks for clarifying that! JJ 👍
Thanks for the heads up, I tried multiple times to program 3 remotes, but after programming two, The third one didn't program and was unusable.
I finally tried your method here and lo and behold, All three remotes worked fine.

thanks. the instructions that came with the remotes i got from amazon were wrong. i tried "chatting" with the vendor and then came here and when YOUR sequence worked PERFECTLY i sent them this youtube link. chat is useless and the gal in bangalore suggested i disconnect BOTH batteries on my ram and wait 20 minutes. youtube is so handy!

@@4DIYers I have two of these for less than 2 months and they both stopped working suddenly. Are you familiar with these items? Are they junk? I changed the battery and still don't work. Does changing the battery require reprogramming? I tried that and they still don't work.

Unfortunately a dealer or locksmith is needed for that to access the vehicle's computer.

I followed your instructions for my 2003 Dodge Ram. The new remote now works for locking and unlocking the doors but the headlights no longer blink and the running lights no longer come on. This is also now true when using my original remote. How can I get the lights to work correctly as originally? Very important at night.
What about changing the CTM or BCM and and programming your original remote to the new module? Dealer required?

It's works with 2003 Chrysler Voyager 2.5 Crd European Version, but after you reprogrammed the new one you have to reprogrammed also the old one at the same time, if you don't do this, will work only the new one.
Unfortunately if the remote accessing the programming sequence isn't the original, then it will need to be reprogrammed along with the new remote.
My fob dead on me have to buy a new one, after watching this video now I can do this my self 👍

You can buy a doorman programmer that plugs into the obd2 port. Then follow the instructions included. That's how I did mine. Cost about $50.

I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 without a remote. I bought one at AutoZone not knowing I needed the original. I had called the dealership they told me they can program it with the scanning tool, they needed the key. There is not a guarantee that it would work considering it is an aftermarket truck but would still charge for the service.
Dorman part#99164 worked for me and I didn't have a key fob to copy hopefully this helps and I did order on Amazon. I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500

Hi I have a keyless fob that works for look and unlook but also have a fob for the remote that was installed by a different company. My remote fob it is not working so I bought the same kind but I can not program it. I tried to do what you did in this videos but my key fob when I turn on the ignition the panic button goes inside the ignition so can not press and hold that button.

I dont know what went wrong. I have a 2001 Intrepid. I followed your instructions, but now my car wont start. The 3 fobs lock and unlock the doors, but now it's like the alarm is triggered and ignition is interrupted when I turn the key.
Dash lights flashing, parking lights flashing, etc.

Looks like a fairly easy process. I couldn't see what you were doing too clearly, because of the way it was being held.

Hello went to dealer to have 2 new fobs programed on my 2005 town and country . . they could not get buttons to work on new fobs and original does still work except when I press the lock button I no longer get a chime arming the alarm . Please help .

Call a locksmith.They are much cheaper than the dealer.

They don't sell it but you can buy it off of Amazon for 45 dollars, or ask around and see if a locksmith will program it for less then the 45. If you order it online just follow the instructions on the packaging and you should be set

I am trying this on a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan and I just can’t seem to get it into programming mode. The keyfob and the key are one piece. I’m turning the key to Run, waiting for the dinging to stop, holding Unlock to the count of six, press and release Panic and then unlock and I just can’t get that red light to come on. What about if you lost your original one. An you are trying to set a new one
2003 Dodge Grand Caravan. Followed the instructions with an old (programed) and a new FOB. The new one works, the old one doesn't. I tried to reprogram the old FOB, and then the new one again within 30 secs, but only the new one continues to work. Also, no chimes after the first time when the new FOB was programed.
Make sure the battery is in good condition. Even if it was replaced recently, the battery maybe old and have a poor charge.
Is there a way to remove keys that have been activated in the past that we dont have anymore?

Will this method work for a Dodge/Jeep key like mine which has the cut key shaft attached to the electronic remote lock and unlock fob? My key has three buttons: lock, unlock, and panic.

Once I use my existing key fob to enter program mode is it true that you’ll have to re-add the original key fob to the program as well once any additional key fobs are programmed?
Add them both at the same time. It doesn't sound like either is original to the vehicle.
