I love how you nodded straight to Racing Bricks and Sariel at the beginning, credit where credit is due. Your reviews have usually wonderful insights, and giving a shot at a technic set is probably a nice experience, so no pressure, and thanks for your great work :)
I grew up with the original Technic sets (even had some of the proto-Technic sets with the big colorful gear wheels), my first being the 855 Mobile Crane which I got for Christmas 1978 - I was nine at the time. I loved - LOVED - my Technic sets but when I grew older (15+) I lost interest in all things Lego (as you often do). I rekindled my love for Lego about ten years ago when I got the Mercedes U400 Unimog set and have bought quite a few more since, the latest that I built was the 42082 Rough Terrain Crane, the great-great-great-grand child to my first set. But even though that set has 8 times the number of parts than my beloved old 855 and even though it's so much more advanced in every conceivable way it just doesn't do it for me, at least not as my original sets. Maybe it's just nostalgia but to me some of the Lego soul is lost with the newer Technic sets due to them being much more of plastic Meccano sets. Plus, there's something to be said for being able to make ingenious designs with a limited number of different bricks rather than custom-made components that e.g. make up entire hub assemblies. Case in point: the 856 Bulldozer from 1979 with a bucket that lifts AND tilts with just small cog wheels and ratchet pieces. Amazing! To me, Lego is and has always been bricks being put together by studs and corresponding holes, not by fastening beams together with an endless number of pins. I have also bought and built a few Lego Creator Expert sets and I actually enjoyed those much more even though the piece count often is lower or much lower than the equivalent Technic sets. The building experience is much more (classic) Lego and I like that a lot. I may get the occasional new Technic set but I am planning to focus instead on filling out the gaps in my collection of classic, System based Technic sets instead. TL:DR: Tiago, I think you definitely have a point in your review and I do hope that Lego will do a Technic Retro line of sets - I'd buy those in a heartbeat!
^^ THIS 200% Classic 70/80s Technic: Focus on function Modern 90/00’s Technic: Focus on form Requiring specialized “one off” parts detracts from using your imagination of common parts. Technic jumped the shark in the 90’s. Totally agree the soul of modern Technic is missing compared to early Technic. The 8888 Ideas Book was so iconic - you could actually BUILD the objects if you had enough pieces. Maybe it is just me but these days you spend more and more on fewer and fewer parts.
I'm not a big Lego Technic fan either, although I do think this new model looks great, and far better than some of the forthcoming 2022 sets that have recently been revealed by Lego. Still, as someone who is invested in making a Lego City, I do appreciate a lot of the various Technic functions and techniques as something that can be incorporated for elevators and moving doors etc.
Sadly it’s fairly normal nowadays that there are a ton of stickers in technic sets which make a BMW out of a fairly boring motorcycle. That applies to cars, excavators etc
While I do love technic sets, the disassembly process is definitely a pain. That's why I prefer buying the medium sized sets instead of the big ones to avoid this painful process
I recently started building lego again at age 38 with the Nintendo console. This BMW is my 5th build in 2 months and was really the best experience! I loved Lego Technic as a kid, and still do!
When I build a System set I kind of get into a rhythm and can usually figure out what I'm building without fully looking at the instructions. It's like a meditative frame of mind where my "Lego intuition" takes over. This is absolutely impossible to do with Technic sets.
I just saw the price tag... $230 USD?! For a technic set that is less than 2000 pieces, and I'm going to assume a lot of them are just the little pins and axels that you can get for less than a penny on BrickLink. Good thing I'm not a Technic fan either haha
Also includes massive tires, tons of large panels, a large windshield, and many technic beams that contain more mass than Lego bricks. I don't think the price is unreasonable.
@@nickvang7 just a few years ago for the same price you got the Bucket Wheel Excavator, with double the part count (and over double the mass!) and including Power Functions. And a B-model, something sorely missing from most recent Technic sets. Similar story for the Arocs, quite a few more pieces, with PF and pneumatics for less money. And that was even a licensed set. Technic has increased in price rather quickly the last few years, that's not just inflation...
Thanks for securing me yet another coffee break at work. Really enjoy your videos and the atmosphere you create in them. Hope to see you back in your former office one day.
I didn't enjoy my first Technic build, but now I like them. It just takes some practice to get to enjoy building these. If you need to take them apart, use needle-nose pliers, and follow the building instructions in reverse.
the 'second stand' is known as a paddock stand for motorcycles, you use it in the real world to adjust the rear wheel, chain and other elements of the rear side of the motorcycle
The old Technic sets - in the days of the 8843 forklift, which I still have - were really fun to build. After my “dark ages”, the first large Technic set I built was the 42096 (Porsche 911 RSR). It was the most boring LEGO building experience ever and it felt like a punishment.
I think it would be cool if system incorporated more technic elements like the old Viking theme. That new lunar base from City has a large technic piece on it and looks fantastic :)
I just finished building it and I gotta agree, it’s quite a shame they hid away the engine and transmission components. At least in the Bugatti you are able to see the engine moving and you can see the transmission shifting if you look very closely. That’s probably my only complaint with the set though. That and having to place down so many stickers lol
This has got to be your funniest video yet, 🤣😂! Omgosh you’re such a natural at humour. Sorry don’t mean to laugh at your miserable building experience but you made it so funny. Thx for the review. Cheers 🍻
@@TiagoCatarino ahh ok, see I’m quite new to Lego but I’m in love with it, for Christmas which set would you recommend the police station or the blacksmith because I really like the architecture of the blacksmith but the police-station is also soo good
I'm working on building this set right now and honestly its amazing. From the size and correctly matching proportions, to the actual three speed transmission and 4cylnder engine, even the build process itself, I'm blown away. The only criticism of it i could have is over the use of seventy stickers, I've never licked having to use stickers in a Lego build.
The only annoying thing is if you make a mistake, you have to like take it all apart. With regular legos, it’s easier to take a piece off without removing all the pieces
i have one of this lego technic and it suffered me for 3 days my hands are hurting and i keep getting wrong when putting some pieces on the motorcycle cuz the tutorial isnt even pointing to where it was
I agree, I made a mistake in the Landrover gearbox which makes the car not able to move, and I still havn't corrected it. (I bought the set on release)
I've liked technic since I was 9 as I am a gearhead at heart. What I like about it now it that for the most part, some of the technic sets result in highly playable toys my 3.5 year old can sort of participate in building (he likes the connectors and the panels as much as his brick legos) while its a giant jigsaw puzzle for me, who is still a gearhead. Beware the remote control stunt track racer! Way too fragile. Had to glue it together to make it survive impacts. My son loves motorcycles so I might get this. It looks like it can survive a pre-schooler.
I completely agree with your feelings: I miss the "old days" where Technic bricks were just LEGO bricks with holes, plus special parts like gears, studs etc. Many Technic pieces moved to the standard LEGO sets to do some nice things (BlackTron vehicle for example). Nowadays Technic is an isolated world, I see no way of using those fancy parts in a traditional LEGO set, I even see it difficult to disassemble something like this to do... what? All Technic sets were fairly simple, they showed the mechanisms and that was part of the fun, new sets with loads of specialized pieces are just a way to build a very complex, very "realistic", very "un-reusable" toy.
2 года назад+1
I almost exclusively build Technic, and the one thing that I find problematic vs. System is how it's very difficult to create in a small scale and have the model look good. I also never put stickers on my sets and prefer those that don't really need them.
Lol, redo when determination inspires you to find what part you messed up on. Then feel like a dork because “how did you mess up on this part? It’s right there!”. 🥴 🤣👍🏼.
I have a suggestion Tiago. If you hate the Technic system so much and didn't ask for this set to review just make a random draw and donate this set to one of your active subscribers.
The whole point of lego sending him free stuff is so that he can honestly review it and it would be very cheap for the lego company as a for of advertisement
79 stickers, I must've misheard that, right!??! I'd love to try a technic set after helping a client build a car. It's just that cars/motors don't appeal to me, at all :/ Are there any technic sets around that aren't a vehicle?
It blows my mind that someone could love Lego and not like Technic. I will admit it seems like Technic builds aren't always great, but the potential with using Technic pieces is so much greater.
Oh no! I was looking forward to have something from BMW in my collection even though they refuse to license a BMW car set. I'm buying this new set anyway when it comes out.
To be fair, I remember being surprised with how complicated the Ducati Lego set was. I’ve done some of the bigger technic and Lego sets, so when I got the Ducati I didn’t think it would be a challenge. But due to the strange geometry and limited space to fit all the mechanisms, the Ducati was a fairly complex build. I’m guessing this won’t be much different from that lol
I've never been a MC guy, but when LEGO did the 8860 homage for the Technic 40 years anniversary I had to get all three donor sets and build them first, and I found the motorcycle the most satisfying build (despite an "evil" assembly at the core which requires pliers to disassemble). That led me to get the Ducati, and again I was not disappointed (though I really dislike all the stickers, so those stayed untouched - it looks nice without them too). This new BMW is certainly on my wishlist, but that list is quite crowded, so who knows...
The hardest Technic sets I've built were the red Super Car from 2011 and the blue/black Race Jet. Some of the instructions left me scratching my head, and I've been playing with the advanced- style sets since I was 6.
Impressive set. but like you, I prefer the Lego system. the only technic set I own are the 3 supercars, and the Mack truck. The only reason I like the MACK truck is because it has system bricks on the hood and almost looks Creator. How about a video Tiago next time on how you take sets apart, what do you do with the pieces, (keep, sell?) ,how you organize them! I feel like my display collection is running short, might be time take some sets apart.
It was a great build. It looks great built. It looks great on display. BTW, why do you build them only to turn around and throw them in a bin? Just curious.
Yeah… the sticker count is not a regular for Technic sets, but it happens on these fancy licensed vehicles since the companies live to wrap the cars in decorations and sponsors.
Tiago, I am a Technic girl since I was 4, but I have never had a chance to get a proper huge set until I turned 28 (my parents didn't buy it for me despite how I asked). I have also acquired a Gingerbread House of yours last year. I must say, assembling it have been PAIN IN THE ASS. Much like Technic for you. I don't know, it is beautiful, it's my favourite Winter Village set, and I love the end result, don't get me wrong. But it was painful, with all those adornments and decorations. Recently, I bought a Sanctum Sanctorum for being a Doctor Strange fan. Gosh, I haven't finished with the ground floor and I am already exhausted! Maybe the buildings, their tiled floors and decor are not for me after all... I have serious doubts about buying any more buildings and trying to make a small City. I'd rather assemble moving mechanisms, they're tough, but the functionality is rewarding and makes sense when put together, however tedious the process is. And my fingertips don't hurt, maybe because they became rough after years of writing at school.
I like technic because I get to see the functions I spent a long time building, actually work, there’s a feeling of accomplishment. Also with technic, whenever I want to take a break from the standard Lego system, there’s always technic sets to build. But I do agree about the finger pain lol
Lego Technic jumped the shark in the late 80’s / early 90’s when they started adding specialized parts to every set IMHO. The “classic” Technic sets of the 70’s and early 80’s are iconic because they actually involved your imagination - not relying on “specialized” one-off parts.
i totally agree with you 100% notice slight up tick in prices and # of pieces does not guarantee a good build best build is the jeep easy on pocket flawless build 🤔
I adore Technic as a theme, and with old themes like Technic Competition, old Constraction like Throwbots/G1 Bionicle/1st wave Hero Factory/etc, and even System themes like Power Miners, Aqua Raiders, and Atlantis, I VASTLY prefer Technic as a building experience to traditional System - though, I still enjoy both. What I WILL say, however, is that I am not a fan of modern Technic as a [theme]. I liked it when they would make up crazy, wacky different models that actually felt like toys, such as all those themes above I mentioned. I never enjoyed it when Technic was used *just* to replicate some sports car or motorcycles, which with how smooth and curvy they are IRL, I feel directly clashes with Technic's visual strengths, which is probably a big factor as to why Technic is so niche today; granted I think it visually works best for construction vehicles sets, but even I feel that it's too limiting. You have an entire building theme, and the company's ONLY using it to replicate things from real life? It's even worse when you remember that the criminally-underrated Technic figures (Technic Competition, etc) don't exist anymore, so none of these vehicles even have any drivers, making them feel even more like lifeless display models rather than toys. Though, that's a problem with LEGO's output as a whole now, isn't it? All these "adult-oriented" triple-digit sets packed full of detail, but totally skimping on playability in favor of being marketed as "hip display pieces." How wretched... and they're only doubling down on this garbage, too! LEGO today isn't a toy company, today they're now a merchandise company that occasionally makes fantastic Creator 3-in-1 sets and that's it, in my eyes.
I always loved technic, disassembling is just pain tho, i built the bucket wheel excavator and then had to disassemble it, because the gears didn't work properly... After many tries, i still couldn't fix it.
I don’t get the hate for two things when it comes to KEGO: People who hate stickers/decals and people who hate Technic. I don’t have many Technic sets. I just don’t like dropping that kind of money on both the small and large ones. However, when I saw this set, I bought it (arriving next week). I love models: real modes that take skill, more creativity, glue, paint, and did I say skill? LEGO is nothing compared to that, but they are more fun than doing a long and drawn out plastic model kit.
To clarify, this is a bad review cause I'm no Technic Expert and have zero knowledge about motorcycles! 😂

I love how you nodded straight to Racing Bricks and Sariel at the beginning, credit where credit is due. Your reviews have usually wonderful insights, and giving a shot at a technic set is probably a nice experience, so no pressure, and thanks for your great work :)
Exactly, this is completely out of my area of LEGO expertise
Stickers are THE WORST PART of Lego.

Classic 70/80s Technic: Focus on function
Modern 90/00’s Technic: Focus on form
Requiring specialized “one off” parts detracts from using your imagination of common parts.
@@MichaelPohoreski Oh yeah! The 8888 idea book was amazing - the walking dog, the all-mechanical excavator and the programmable crane!
You can blame BMW's m division for the stickers.
The printed pieces are only on the premium sets. Technic is actually a bit of a budget line.
@@michaelmenkesOZSKIB even 700€ UCS sets need a ton of stickers
I really appreciate your honesty and the amount of effort you put into your videos just to give us a review!
While I do love technic sets, the disassembly process is definitely a pain. That's why I prefer buying the medium sized sets instead of the big ones to avoid this painful process
why would you disassemble it ? genuine question
@@linkenparis9562 I need to use the parts for my mocs lol
may i ask why we spend $$$ to dis assemble
I recently started building lego again at age 38 with the Nintendo console. This BMW is my 5th build in 2 months and was really the best experience! I loved Lego Technic as a kid, and still do!
When I build a System set I kind of get into a rhythm and can usually figure out what I'm building without fully looking at the instructions. It's like a meditative frame of mind where my "Lego intuition" takes over. This is absolutely impossible to do with Technic sets.
Right?! Its super stressful :P
His face in the thumbnail says it all.
Haha. I don't touch normal legos.
I only buy technic sets...
RIP your inbox with death threats in 3.. 2.. 1..
Goody!! Lots of stickers!!
…not
can confirm, my fingers are in pain after building the Chiron
the 'second stand' is known as a paddock stand for motorcycles, you use it in the real world to adjust the rear wheel, chain and other elements of the rear side of the motorcycle
Too bad the working engine is hidden.
for me lego = technic sets, I don't get how ppl got problem on building it or disassembling it
The old Technic sets - in the days of the 8843 forklift, which I still have - were really fun to build. After my “dark ages”, the first large Technic set I built was the 42096 (Porsche 911 RSR). It was the most boring LEGO building experience ever and it felt like a punishment.
Wait, why do you tare apart your sets, what do you do with the pieces, are you getting rid of the 1000RR, if so what are you going to do with it?
I think it would be cool if system incorporated more technic elements like the old Viking theme. That new lunar base from City has a large technic piece on it and looks fantastic :)
I dont agree with you i think that technics best
Agree to disagree :)
The technic build its insanely amazing and the suspension absolutely amazing too
I just finished building it and I gotta agree, it’s quite a shame they hid away the engine and transmission components. At least in the Bugatti you are able to see the engine moving and you can see the transmission shifting if you look very closely. That’s probably my only complaint with the set though. That and having to place down so many stickers lol
Right?! Hope you enjoyed it though!
just curious does the winglet already comes with carbon finishing or we need to put sticker that might provided from the box
This has got to be your funniest video yet, 🤣😂! Omgosh you’re such a natural at humour.
Sorry don’t mean to laugh at your miserable building experience but you made it so funny. Thx for the review. Cheers 🍻
Oh thank you! That was all I was hoping for :D
Why do u take them apart afterwards?
To save space, to display newer LEGO sets, to use the pieces for my builds!
I’ve always loved technic sets. At a certain point regular Lego sets weren’t as challenging for me, and technic scratched that itch I was looking for.
Have you built the Saturn V? Typewriter? Titanic? Those are good and challenging system builds
@@TiagoCatarino Those sets look amazing. I’d love to build them someday.
@@TiagoCatarino honestly I'd rather build this than the titanic. That looked super repetitive and a bit boring. The final version was very nice though
@@TiagoCatarino I feel like the Typewriter is an unfair example for a Lego system set, its core is almost entirely Technic pieces
I like that LEGO Creator Porsche 911
The only annoying thing is if you make a mistake, you have to like take it all apart. With regular legos, it’s easier to take a piece off without removing all the pieces
it is specifically an M1000RR because it's a motorsport trim of the S1000RR
i have one of this lego technic and it suffered me for 3 days my hands are hurting and i keep getting wrong when putting some pieces on the motorcycle cuz the tutorial isnt even pointing to where it was
I agree, I made a mistake in the Landrover gearbox which makes the car not able to move, and I still havn't corrected it. (I bought the set on release)
Tiago made LEGO reviews funny! Love it
Building technic is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle made of razor blades
I almost exclusively build Technic, and the one thing that I find problematic vs. System is how it's very difficult to create in a small scale and have the model look good. I also never put stickers on my sets and prefer those that don't really need them.
Great review. Glad you did it... Very entertaining.
Tiago: Many times you mess up...
Me: Cries in unfinished Lego Crane
Lol, redo when determination inspires you to find what part you messed up on. Then feel like a dork because “how did you mess up on this part? It’s right there!”. 🥴 🤣👍🏼.
79 stickers?!
Technically 83
@@TiagoCatarino oooof
I have a suggestion Tiago. If you hate the Technic system so much and didn't ask for this set to review just make a random draw and donate this set to one of your active subscribers.
The whole point of lego sending him free stuff is so that he can honestly review it and it would be very cheap for the lego company as a for of advertisement
Whoa. NO DISLIKES. I guess this means Tiago should do NOTHING BUT TECHNIC REVIEWS!

79 stickers, I must've misheard that, right!??!
I'd love to try a technic set after helping a client build a car. It's just that cars/motors don't appeal to me, at all :/
Are there any technic sets around that aren't a vehicle?
Why do you take them apart after building?
No space to display every LEGO set I build
i feel you...taking apart Lego sets...
as a challenge for myself i now only build 18+ lego technic sets
It blows my mind that someone could love Lego and not like Technic.
I will admit it seems like Technic builds aren't always great, but the potential with using Technic pieces is so much greater.
Oh no! I was looking forward to have something from BMW in my collection even though they refuse to license a BMW car set. I'm buying this new set anyway when it comes out.
the lever you mentioned does stop the 2 yellow cannister
engine pieces when in neutral
i find a tiny bit of vasoline keeps things moving well
To be fair, I remember being surprised with how complicated the Ducati Lego set was. I’ve done some of the bigger technic and Lego sets, so when I got the Ducati I didn’t think it would be a challenge. But due to the strange geometry and limited space to fit all the mechanisms, the Ducati was a fairly complex build. I’m guessing this won’t be much different from that lol
If the ducati was to hard. You should switch to playmobil. 😄
@@timleirs4189 that’s a bit unnecessary. I said it was a challenge, not that I couldn’t do it, or even that it was difficult…
@@timleirs4189 Playmobil is 😎
I've never been a MC guy, but when LEGO did the 8860 homage for the Technic 40 years anniversary I had to get all three donor sets and build them first, and I found the motorcycle the most satisfying build (despite an "evil" assembly at the core which requires pliers to disassemble). That led me to get the Ducati, and again I was not disappointed (though I really dislike all the stickers, so those stayed untouched - it looks nice without them too). This new BMW is certainly on my wishlist, but that list is quite crowded, so who knows...
Why would you disassemble it?
LEGO Technic is the "normal" lego.
Ever since they discontinued the og Bionicle sets, Technics have been the only way for me to get that creation edge
Yeah… the sticker count is not a regular for Technic sets, but it happens on these fancy licensed vehicles since the companies live to wrap the cars in decorations and sponsors.
thank you for the review... now i do not have to buy it since it is not technic any more... how can i explain the mechanism to my kid?
You should try building smaller sets, maybe they would be easier to take apart? 🤔
my hat is off to you if you can build without instructions ive been building everythink for 50 yrs you a nasa engineer ha ha👍👍👍

How to mildly trigger all technic moc builders in one video ( we all have destroyed fingers by the way)
That seems like a cool video title! 😈
I cannot believe that one of his complaints is that Technic holds together too well
some parts are so well engineered they can go on a nuclear submarine and once in a while there is the finiky piece that just wont cooperate
I just saw a piece I haven't seen since M-Tron. That's about 30 years.
I have Ducati Panigale (already assembled) and sealed Harley-Davidson Fat Boy. And this new set is also a great one. Want it in my collection too!
You should appreciate how Lego is giving you sets for free and how we have to spend a lot of money to get them
And I do appreciate it!
I have a little trouble with lego technics because the end result is rarely very realistic!
Your fingers hurt for 3 days? Impressive.
Glad to hear I’m not the only one who feels this way about Technic sets. Impressive models, but not for me!
It's basically just the ducati pancale but different colour
i think Tiago has not suffered enough time to pull out cat D11 bulldozer
