    I think Godrick ist very well aware, that his Knights only serve him because of his bloodline. He doesnt trust them and thats probably why theyre not allowed in the castle. He hired these Exiled Soldiers, gave them a new home AMD cool Windpowers and thats why theyre loyal. Same case with the banished Knights.

    • @ICECAPPEDSKY

      That’s fair, although the carian/cuckoo knights and the Leyndell knights don’t have a bad gig.
      The Godrick Knights definitely are the safest geographically.
      Where it gets rough is the Cleanrot knights, Gelmir knights, Redmane knights and the Haligtree Knights.
      Redmanes and Cleanrots live in Caelid and the Gelmir knights live obviously near Mt Gelmir which has all manner of lava wyrms, rune bears, Demi humans, cannibals and other such horrors. The Caelid enemies I didn’t specify because do I really need to? The Haligtree Knights just have it bad because they serve Miquella who disappeared to their knowledge then turn to serve Malenia who is slowing losing it while they all collectively live in a fortress set in a tree that is being corrupted by scarlet rot. While alot of the other residents turn into insects.
      The Cuckoo knights live in West Liurnia broadly whereas the Carian knights live in the Carian Manor and Acedemy Specifically. Liurnia is generally not dangerous as long as you avoid the swamp/marsh area surrounding the academy.
      The problem for the Carian knights is that they are loyal to Ranni and Rennala specifically and the rest of the Carian academy and their territories in Liurnia turned against them. So most of the Carian Knights died out after Ranni stole a fragment of destined death and after radagon had left Rennala and yet stayed loyal to Ranni and Rennala. The Cuckoo soldiers and Knights wiped them out because they serve the Acedemy and therefore the sorcerers and not the royals.
      Leyndell Knights on the other hand I shouldn’t have to explain anything really as they live in the most secure location in the lands between and sit directly under the erdtree which is the base of their religion while also having access to the best gear available to the knights alive at the time. The only threat they ever face is the character you play.

    • @DanQ2805
      @DanQ2805 7 месяцев назад +14

      @@ICECAPPEDSKYthe Leyndell knight obviously has the better condition almost safe like limgrave
      They all have better equipment which was maintained properly, their in vicinity of the erdtree itself which making them feel like they have more blessings and not to mention has better security with tree sentinel, gargoyle and avatar and they have Morgot who the most rational lord than anyone else as he actually did his duty as the last king to properly lead leyndel
      Basically joining the Leyndell army is by far the best option
      That is until we the tarnished kill Morgot, burn the erdtree from the fire giant forge, take the power rune of death from Maliketh and kill There first elden lord Godfrey as well as Radagon,Marika and elden beast and become the 3rd Elden lord
      Or we just straight up burn everything with the power of frenzy flame

    What might further add to their shame is when you kill Goderick himself. Although likely relieved, the knights might also think to themselves "we couldn't even defend our lord. What right do we have to serve any other?" Broken and lordless, I imagine morale would be pretty low. Their only redemption is likely through Nepheli. Under her rulership, Nepheli's knights can prosper again. And if she really is the daughter of Godfrey, then serving under her lineage would bring honor back to their ranks. Hope for them isn't lost. Now, if Nepheli is killed, made into a puppet, or is simply never allow to rise as lord to Limgrave, their outlook might not be so rosy then.

    One thing to note is how the placement of his knights is an analogy for grafting. He plucks away the knights who belong to the castle, replacing them with knights from another place, quite litterally sawing off his own knights, grafting the banished knights on.

    Gotta say, despite all their problems Godricks forces are the most lively army in the Lands between, every other force is seemingly just the local army unchanged since the shattering-wars, or the haligtree who are just a bunch of overleveld sadbois waiting for their senpai to save them.
    arguably godricks ability to compromise and "innovate" makes him the only Lord with any growth-potential, but sadly he has not enough of those "god-genes" to win.

  • @BestWayKilla
    @BestWayKilla Год назад +57

    I sorta formulated an interesting theory as to the purpose and motivation for the Godrick Soldiers and Knights based on the available information and state of affairs at the start of the game. Given that they're not allowed within Stormveil, it can be assumed that Godrick doesn't particularly trust or think too highly of his army, preferring instead to be defended by Exiles and Banished Knights. At most, the soldiers still guard the approach to the front gates of the castle, but as far as we know, the entirety of his army could very well have been out of communication with their lord for years, cut off or barred from receiving any orders, with the only potential comings and goings in Stormveil being new prisoners like Roderika and her group brought in to be grafted. In the absence of any orders from their sovereign, Godrick's army has essentially been left to their own devices down south, completely abandoned and possibly even forgotten about by the very man whose symbol they wear. I imagine that, bereft of any other purpose, and with a delusional lord content to barricade himself into a castle beyond their reach, the Godrick Knights took it upon themselves to impose some semblance of order onto the chaotic mess that is Limgrave (and the Weeping Peninsula, to a lesser extent), patrolling its roads and keeping the demi-humans in check. Who knows, we can reasonably expect that, after Godrick's slaying at the hands of the Tarnished, Stormveil was reopened, since some new occupants arrive there in the meantime, and, with their apathetic lord now dead, the remnants of Godrick's army might decide to swear allegiance to their new lord, Nepheli Loux, Warrior, and her minister the great Kenneth Haight, and actually have a sense of purpose again.

    • @TheRisky9
      @TheRisky9 Год назад +12

      This is an excellent theory. The whole theme of the game is "ambition" which links back to the alchemy idea of "Magnus Opus" or the great work. And alchemy inspiring much of the game's look and story telling.
      Each character represents different aspects of that ambition: Worthless ambition (Godrick), ambition at the cost of pride and honor (Malenia), dangerous ambition (Ranni), ambition devoid of morals (Rykard), the ambition of loyalty (Morgott), and those are just the ones I can think of. But even minor characters have ambitions, some noble and others not.
      What you've done is shown what are the Godrick soldier's ambition.

    • @Umbra_Ursus
      @Umbra_Ursus Год назад +9

      It could be they only patrol, or even somewhat serve their "lord", due to a sense of honor. Would explain why they seem to try and keep raiding demi-humans in-check. A better question is why they haven't bailed completely: Unlike the Cuckoo knights, they don't get any real perks, and unlike the Redmane knights, they don't have an ongoing duty. Considering the Gelmir knights *did* bail once Rykard started exploring his vore kink, it's fascinating that the Godrick knights remain loyal, to their symbol at the least.

To put in this dialogue is a bit strange no? Is it the fact that Godrick sent his knights to try and repel the rebellion? Is it because Godrick was good to Edgar?

    • @square-table-gaming
      @square-table-gaming  Год назад +8

      It's entirely possible Edgar knows nothing about what Godrick is today. Godrick stationed him in a place of power over that castle so he would probably see him as benevolent for that. We don't know how long it's been since Edgar has heard word from stormvale. Also, no matter what his opinion of Godrick might be, he is a knight and his duty was to protect that weapon so if he dies he is losing his honor.

    So I think the reason why the Banished Knights and Exiled Soldiers occupy Stormveil is because they were part of the mercenaries that were serving under Commander O’Neil when Malenia overtook the castle. It would make sense this was part of the deal, Godrick got to keep his life, his rune, and Stormveil in exchange for becoming a vassal of Miquella. His soldiers would be then used to keep control of Limgrave. He of course would claim to be lord of all that was golden in your fight through pride, he would only admit subservience in the presence of Miquella or Malenia

  • @jamesnorman9160
    @jamesnorman9160 Год назад +100

    I felt that the Soldiers/Knights of Godrick not being deployed inside Stormveil itself was due to two different reasons:
    A: Godrick was more interested in Grafting himself to gain power so he was sending as many of his men out as possible to seek out new Tarnished victims for the Grafting procedure.
    B: He just doesn't have enough manpower to cover the whole of Limgrave/Weeping Peninsula and Stormveil. It's a sizeable portion of land, but with the soldier sbeing formed from what was left of the army that fled the capital, chances are it's just a fraction of what Godrick left with initially, the rest being captured or killed during their escape.
    But I supposed the shame of them being allied with the weakest demigod of them all and a known coward is a pretty bitter pill to swallow. And Godrick's disgusting nature keeps them away too: so the only people Godrick can find to man the castle itself are exiles and banished knights, with literally nowhere else to go.

    I'd also like to note that Godrick's behavior as a scavenger isn't just limited to Grafting either.
    -You can see the his Knights and Soldiers all around, forcing peasants to pillage and scavenge ruins for what I can only assume to be either mining ores or collecting relics & artifacts.
    -He's probably the one who send the Fallen Hawks into the underground cities, likely to find something from the Nox that could increase his power. Stormveil itself has a lot of stuff that's clearly pillaged from other places in the Lands Between, including Nomads' Cookbooks and even seals and prayerbooks from the _Godskin Apostles._ He's also got mindless Living Jars stored in a corner, Marika knows why, never mind the Godwyn's replica corpse & Deathrood beneath the castle.
    -The fact that his castle is manned by Exiled & Banished Knights, as well as the Kaiden Riders. He's willing to stoop as low as recruiting people who are probably criminals and traitors, never mind hiring mercenaries.
    -The fact he's willing to use Trolls and Omen, both races that despised by the Golden Order.
    -The fact he sought to kill and graft a Dragon, a being that the Golden Order started to consider sacred at one point, not to mention one that's afflicted with Scarlet Rot.
    Godrick has put himself in such a pathetic state that he's willing to get any power or asset he can, even from things he would otherwise should consider heretical and vile.

      I'd compare Godrick to the Sith Lords from the New Sith Wars, like Darth Rivan or the Calimondra Family. He's basically an insane petty magic warlord trying to hold on to crumbling power by whatever means possible, including scavenging whatever power or weapon he can find from his predecessors and engaging in foul rituals and tactics with no long-term benefit.

    "Be proud. You were a fine warrior.
    Your only mistake was your choice of master."
    It is sad how loyal all of them are to a man who never deserved to have anyone's loyalty, and who little respect they got in return. I hope the survivors reorganized themselves under a better person, like Nepheli.

And even if you can’t stand Godrick, since he isolates himself in Stormveil, you don’t get to be around him very often.

    I’d honestly say that I agree the Cleanrots were probably the strongest most of the time especially numbers wise but I would also say that the Carian Knights specifically are probably on par with them or on another level of powerful in comparison depending on your interpretation.
    As the Carian Knight sword says “These knights' swords could serve as catalysts, letting them wield sorcerous battle skills. Despite numbering fewer than twenty, this power made them a match for even the champions of gold in battle”.
    So depending on how you interpret that that could mean cleanrot knights or something more akin to the Tree sentinels or Crucible knights who are champions and defenders of the golden order.
    I personally interpreted this quote as something more akin to the Tree sentinels specifically because it states champions of gold which is referencing the golden order specifically to me. Whereas if it was referencing the knights of Malenia it would’ve specified. Also there were fewer than twenty Carian knights and those numbers would more match the number of Tree Sentinels than the Redmane and Cleanrot knights who were rivals and were in large enough numbers alongside the regular soldiers to be considered entire armies.
    Also the Carian knights shield as a last note was stated to be built to protect against Holy and Magic damage specifically while asking in the quote, just who were these knights preparing to fight?

    This makes me happy to have put Nepheli on the throne. Hopefully her honor will give them a master truly worth serving.
    We know that Godrick is decedant from Godfrey, but with which son? The only candidate is really Godwyn. The Tarnished Archelogist theorized that Godwyn was set to wed Ranni the Witch, an Empyrean and carry on his mother's bloodline.
    So, am I saying Godrick is also a decadent of... Ranni? Uhhhh... No. Godrick is obsessed with his Golden Lineage, not a Carian one. It's more likely that Goldie Boy Godwyn had a few concubines and mistresses. (I even have my suspicions who they were. A clue being that they're tall, scary looking, sometimes invisible, and carry these scary looking knives imbued with death...) Doesn't mean he's a bad guy. He seemed to love the prodigy twins despite their affliction and they seemed to have loved him back. But it's pretty easy to see how easy it was for Ranni to choose Godwyn to take on the other half destined death. (I'm seriously thinking marrying her is probably not your best idea...)
    It also means there's a double whammy against Godrick. Not only is he weak because of his character, he's many generations removed from Marika, AND he's a from a bastard bloodline to boot.
    Speaking of the twin prodigies, it's pretty easy to see how easily Godrick could have rubbed Malenia the wrong way. It could have been anything from referring her to the moniker "the Severed" (a title only used in game once in reference to Malenia and it was meant as an insult). He could have referenced how she was deformed (which is how he refers to her as in his cut dialogue). He could have refused her supplies and shelter while on her march to Caelid, citing something about her scarlet rot and "impure blood." But it could have also been callously comparing himself to her beloved half brother to a point where Malenia felt she needed to prove a point.

    On a side note I would say that if the Godrick soldiers and knights were stronger they would definitely be a force to be recognised, I mention this as:
    1. The Godrick soldiers spirit ashes are surprisingly good being capable of killing misbegotten from the Capital when they work together (at +9-10 of course but even at the start I say they are better than many other ashes you can aquire)
    2. I was testing spirit ashes against the storm gate camp and well they bullied summons such as Finley - until they finally threw up some rot to kill the majority - and even the avionets and those guys benefited from being hit as it turns them into a moving blender. (It was only reg NG but they would most likely do even better against more ashes, perhaps I will test this with my first character or not)
