Jay does the best FCP videos. Great attention to detail that’s sadly lacking on so many other RUclips channels! One suggestion on that connector, firstly spray internally the connector with electrical contact cleaner and then smear a little dielectric grease on the terminal pins before snapping back on! Prevents water ingress and improves electrical conductivity.
Great video, really simple to do even on jack stands. Took me longer to screw and unscrew the fill plug than it did to do the rest of the service! BUT I figured out that you can take a baby size vise grips and clamp down on a quarter and then use that like a screwdriver and turn the fill plug in and out. Once I figured that out it was really easy. Highly recommend trying it if your having trouble holding the coin and/or can’t tighten it enough.
You do not need to drive. Just start the engine and put on D. Hold it a brake and put your foot on gas pedal same time. Haldex pump will pump up oil to remove air bubbles its self. Then refull oil to correct level.
Glad you like the video, Bernarda. Our goal is to keep everyone's car running for as long as possible, and with that we often debunk these "lifetime" fluid claims!
It's about time you dug Jay out and show us some real maintenance work. Lets start get serious here again. Please make a clip on 2006 xc90 Haldex. Whichever version that may be.
I have a AWD Disabled warning light on my 2013 XC60 (112k miles). Took it to Volvo service for a diagnostic and service. They recommended that I replace the AOD Coupling due to an “internal fault.” I had no idea what that meant, and they even said it was extremely rare. Cost to repair was $5k. They said it was safe to drive since I basically now had a FWD car 😕 . That said, I declined the service as it wasn’t crucial for me to fix. I’m going to a local independent European specialist who does Volvos to do some routine maintenance, and am going to ask him to validate the Volvo service center’s diagnosis. If he says that Volvo was off their rockers, I’m going to ask him to perform this service (I proactively bought this kit from you). I can’t do it myself since I don’t have anywhere to work on my xc60. Swedespeed forum users also recommended trying this out before replacing the entire AOD. Any thoughts on this approach? Also, what’s the recommended frequency to change the Haldex fluid?
Great video and good information! I'll do this operation on my home garage, however I will open the fill plug before servicing the pump! Will this help releasing all the oil?
Servicing the Haldex is very important, I have a S60R and the oil level was too low which caused excessive current draw to the pump which then burnt the DEM (Haldex control module) out.
Pretty sure that after the "test drive" and then filling up the fluid to maximum for second time, the proper way to ensure the correct level is maintained is to syphon some back out with a graduated syringe with mL measurements. Did they change this in 5th Generation Haldex?
very useful video but I am curious if you can get just the O-rings because it’s $165 for 2 O-rings, a plastic plunger, and $10 worth of brake clean and oil. That’s a bit hard to justify to a customer unless this is only DIY but still quite a bit of a mark up unless I’m missing something else because you can use that filler again. Most people have the oil and brake clean already.
I have just watching one video for Volvo V60 CC where after the second top up whit oil the guy pour out 40 ml of oil, as he explained to reach the right level. Is this necessary or not?
no its not. late manuals tells that its enough just to fill it until its going out, aktivate "Bleeding mode for Pump" in VIDA (or make a wheel spin or testdrive) an check the level again.
why not show a video to change angle gear oil? Some ppl says angle gear at Haldex 5 AWD at Volvo P3 use the same oil with transmissin gear box. I am not sure about that.
Thanks for the video, I ask you if you can help me with the differential of my 2014 Volvo activate the rear differential. Small fact: if I have the differential light turned off by my mechanic, the differential is reactivated until I turn the car off. Can you help me in Volvo just to look at it they ask me €250. I would like to understand if it is a defect of the hadlex5 or a small thing. A thousand thanks
that gunk looks like metal shavings Wow about the fluid. That is a close circuit, which no exposure to combustion. I wonder what the tempature of the haldex gets. Does this cleaning clear ECU code?
If you are working on the P3 with jackstands like me, what's the best way to get the rear of the car up? I've seen it done with a floor jack on the rear subframe (the one right next to that nice blue sway bar in this video) with a 2x4 in between it and the jack pad, and then putting the jack stands on the factory pinch welds. The manual doesn't specify a good spot to actually jack up the rear of the car.
Hello Jay I have a question for you. I have a 2009 s80 3liter turbo, it has 275k on it the haldex fluid was changed at 160k. When I put my foot into it I have a vibration what could be the cause?I love my car and want it to last Volvo quoted me 6 grand for a new haldex any suggestions would be much appreciated
Would the cleaning\maint of the pump resolve a "AWD Disabled, Service Required" error message on a 2013 Volvo S60 T5? Is it ok to drive the car until this is resolved? Thanks in advance.
Hi Jose, there is no reset procedure for this service. If you currently have an error code for your haldex system, you will want to reset that code, otherwise no interval to reset.
@@fcpeuro Thanks for taking the time, I try a few different things and just holding the Reset Botton a fe times it seamed to work. Again much appreciated and great content. Do you have a video showing the steps to doing the transition filter?

Today fixed this job and was very easy thanx to you!
I found out when taking out the fill plug first…..while draining, more oil will run out
You do not need to drive. Just start the engine and put on D. Hold it a brake and put your foot on gas pedal same time.
Haldex pump will pump up oil to remove air bubbles its self. Then refull oil to correct level.
Thanks for the video. I was thinking that probably should ensure you can remove the fill plug first before draining the oil.
Happy to finally see some P3 content! Keep it up.
Another life time fluid good enough for just pass warranty period. Great video!

The service interval for haldex oil change should be 3 years or 30k km

No not engine oil, the Haldex unit has its own oil supply and uses a special oil available from Volvo and VW.

That would be an appropriate method of lifting the car.
excellent excellent EXCELLENT! Thank YOU!! waiting on parts i ordered from you guys to do this. been 2 weeks, but i get it. :oD
Can you do a similar video for p2 Volvos.
We sure can, and will!

any more of preventative maintenance tips for these cars?
Be sure to check out the buyer's guide we have on the P3 chassis vehicles!
Ah geez, another thing to add to the list :)
very educative. thank you.
How often you recommend to change oil in xaldex system ?
We recommend every 25.000 Miles to do a Haldex Service, but can be driver dependent.
I'm about to do a service and I was wandering how do you tell the sysytem you did? is there a reset prosedure? Thanks any info would be appresiated.

What is the situation with 2006 Volvo xc70? Thank you.
8:54, on some other XC70 sites it's suggested to remove a certain amount after the test drive?
Yes. For Haldex 4 VIDA says to extract 40mL after the second fill up
I have xc 60 model 2018 ,29000km
Need haldex oil change plz
Thank you. A little question - how much oil i need for one flush? Can i do 2 flushes with 1l oil?
Hi Uwe, you will want to get 2L of fluid to do two flushes on your system.

Where are the best spots to place your jack stands under?
The jack points themselves, or a solid surface like frame rails or subframes.
Make changing oil rear and front axel.
Curious, instead of a test drive, is it sufficient to just spin the wheels for a while?
u can run "Bleeding mode" with VIDA or just spin the wheels and check the level again. VIDA tells different ways for different MY
Hey, Jay does the “awd disabled..” code go away after you drive it or will it have to be reset? If so, how to do it?
Hi Donna, you may need to use a scanner to clear the code; they do not always go away on their own.
S60 2011 is it gen 4 ?
Good info in the video, but very poor camera autofocus...
Sorry about that, Radu; thank you for the note.
Is it the same process for a P2 (2004 XC70)?
no u have a filter there but very similar
Don`t forget to drive a car during 5-10 min and fill up level again. In other case level will be lower.
First Comment! Great content as always!
Why didn't you change the oil filter?
Haldex Gen 5 doesn't have a filter, just that pump screen.
What happen if it is not service?
does this include a 2018 volvo xc90?
I would say YES as it is still on the P3 platform. Go to Wikipedia and see which platform you are on based on the entry for “Volvo XC90”.
whell done boy !!!😊😊😊
The fill plug looks like a VW engine oil plastic sump drain plug
Word to the wise - use a quarter instead of a dime. It's MUCH easier to turn. Trust me.
Great tip!
Is haldex a transfer case?
There is an angle gear (transfer case) underneath the engine
What is A Haledex??? 🇺🇸
Is this the same for a 2011 S60 T6?
Yes, it should be the same process!
2011 is Gen4, yes i know 7mos late
