Me after this video: *checking prices of 7 string guitars*
7 strings are pretty awesome if you down tune a lot you just need a capo and boom you're in C standard but my favourite way of using it is Drop A so I can have that E standard on the 6 strings like usual and and have an additionnal D on the 4th fret it's really useful for Metallica riffs like MOP

@@marko1401 put a capo on the first fret and it becomes CFA#D#G#CF which is basically C standard.
4th fret of a lower string in Drop A gives you a D.
8th string is so much better

I’d be really interested in hearing City Of Evil or the Nightmare record tuned down too. I feel like there’s some heaviness hidden in those records that may not be as obvious to translate well

I’m pretty sure that victim and save me are played in drop c. But god hates us and natural born killer in drop A… it would almost be too heavy.

Yeah. I liked the video a lot but I don't think you can improve on A7X's music. Downtuning seems to ruin the melodic nature of their music which is so crazy well written.

I agree with everything people are saying here. It's nice to see people give them their just dues when it comes to their sound and influence. I know it's common place to take digs at a7x on the Internet which is just bandwagon mentality I suppose, but they are a super solid band and this album was a bit ahead of its time I think. And for me kinda works as bridge between the old metal sounds of iron Maiden megadeth and the likes, and modern metal with all its variants. This album doesn't sound like newer metal or older metal it's like the sound in between. Idk I'm just ranting my opinion at this point lol
@@mikecruse255 Most of A7x's discography is downtuned to some capacity. Some of their songs are downtuned more so than others, some are "less intense" in downtuning, & some aren't downtuned at all, but most of their songs are indeed downtuned on at least one or more strings. Their most popular tuning is Drop D, which Drop D at least is their "less intense" way of downtuning.

Josh derp it’s personal preference. people who prefer metalcore would obviously prefer their older music. they didn’t necessarily decline in quality but changed in their metal subgenre. if you listen to The Stage, that is honestly one of the best pieces of work they’ve ever done, and the song itself is in my opinion their best song of all time. But I respect your opinion

God no. I love A7X but that album is by far one of the worst albums I’ve ever heard. Warmness on the Soul is the only good song to come out of it.
Jeremy Wade I love A7X and STST is an insane record. Calling Warmness On The Soul the best song on that album and not just your favorite sounds pretty ignorant since it’s the pallet cleanser/ intensity reset of the album. I do love that song but that whole album is just different for Avenged Sevenfold. Much more hardcore influences on it

These are some heavy riffs. I didn't realize how heavy they were until now
I was in my first year of college, studying music here in Nottingham, when this album dropped. Ended up doing an essay on it, and Avenged Sevenfold in general, because of it. It was also the second year of me playing guitar. Definitely helped me to hone some skills. Still a damn good album. I've usually played it in Drop C over the years. I'm not sure why I hadn't thought of playing it on the 7-string I got a year ago for Christmas (my first). I may have to now. Heh.

It's one of those things that I just never thought of backing up to DVD way back in 2003, even if I did other random things. It went into the digital ether long ago, when an 80GB IDE HDD met its demise--after many KOTOR installs, and Cubase SX startups.

waking the fallen was such a great fuckin album. i miss those days. the clairvoyant disease solo is probably one of my favorite ever. no shredding really, but the melody is amazing.

Didn’t get to end of vid until just now, so here are a couple of suggestions on albums: Clayman, Whoracle, or Reroute to Remain by IF; anything by Sylosis (since they’re all E standard, I believe); anything by The Agony Scene (idk why no one ever seems to cover their stuff); anything by HIM; Natural Born Chaos, Figure Number Five, or Stabbing the Drama by Soilwork; and I think my favorite album of all, The End of Heartache by KsE, would sound ridiculously amazing downtuned!

In Flames already mostly tune to C-standard, with Reroute having some songs in drop-Bb, and Soundtrack is almost entirely in drop-A.
Clairvoyant Disease is my favorite on that record, but he sped up a lot when he got to my favorite part (the eighth notes), but I still think it sounds cool but it’s better with the original
