  • This is a revised version with corrections to the video quality i.e. brightness and saturation levels .
I hope this makes for better viewing.
The video is from 8mm cine film shot by me and has an authentic soundtrack recorded at the time of filming.
Locations include Harrogate and the closed route through Ripon to Northallerton. Wakefield, Leeds to Bradford, and the last steam workings from Exchange.
There are also lineside shots a Bramhope, Arthington viaduct and Thackley Tunnels.

Tremendous video. Mostly not areas I do know well around Bradford, but really historical stuff. Love the Harrogate stuff. Thank you for loading.

Excellent, that B1 struggling (14.55) to get its train on the move was just super footage.

Great pictures of the Fairburn tank engines tackling the steep incline out of Bradford Exchange towards the signal box at Bowling Junction where my dad worked.when the line was very busy.

Nice shots of the attractive Metro-Cammell diesel railcars - reminds me of my very first Triang train set!

An excellent video and I really enjoyed the 'lost lines' elements!
Early on you have a few scenes at Leeds City but then the WD 2-8-0 with cattle trucks and an LNER 'B' with parcels are both at Wakefield Kirkgate - rare footage too!
    Thanks again

Not long before these dirty clanking engines get cut up for scrap.

Many thanks for this.Top quality, both video and sound. Out of interest what was the sound recorded on? I had a Philips reel to reel 1 7/8 inches per second but this is far better.

Hello, glad you enjoyed the video.
I began making recordings in on the same Phillips machine as you described in until it suffered a mishap and was replaced in 1967 by a cassette recorder but I continued using the original Phillips mic .
I subsequently ran the original tapes through a large Sony reel to reel recorder and used a graphic equaliser to reduce the base frequencies and tape hiss before saving the sound onto DVDs. (The cassette tapes did not need much correcting)
I was then able to match the sounds to the film using a Pinnacle video editing programme on my computer.

@@PeterHutchinson-jc6wv Many thanks for the reply. There's clearly a lot of hours of work gone into that, but the end result is amazing. Having an authentic original sound track makes all the difference to what is now a priceless record of times gone by.
