    I am from Medan and our Hokkien is very close to each other. Thank you for doing this to preserve our dialect. Can you tell me how I can buy your Hokkien dictionary?

    No.46 ta-pi. Is this one adapted from Malay word or it exists in the Hokkien languange itself?

    • @learnpenanghokkien
      @learnpenanghokkien  Год назад +1

      Yes, it is adopted from Malay. Due to co-existence between Malay and Hokkien for centuries, there are a lot of words that have moved one way or the other, between Malay and Hokkien (more than with any other Chinese language), and ta3pi1 is one of them. There is also a Hokkien word, tan33si33, but in Penang Hokkien, it is less commonly used compared to ta3pi1.

      LOL.
      When Taiji Romanisation was created, we take note of the homophones in Penang Hokkien, and ensure that sentences that sound the same can be differentiated by the spelling. As such, "beh33 sai4" means "sell dung" whereas "bay33 sai4" means "cannot drive".

    I'm Sarawak hock kian. Your hock kian language is good but not so perfect. Your translation is not really accurate
