    Back in Sept I leased a '23 Kia EV6 Wind RWD rated at 310 miles of range. My highest range was on warm days 75+ deg F and I got 365 mi., 345, 355 mi and during the colder New England months am getting 300 to 320. Have noticed that max charging occurs late at night to the early am hrs, 9/10pm to 7am.
    Range and SUV styling are still my preference but Fisker taking way too long to give me an answer on the Ocean Ultra 360 mi range EV lease price. By the time my leave is over I would expect the Toyota Solid State battery they say at 950 mi range should be available in 2025.

    • @S2kDude36
      @S2kDude36 8 месяцев назад

      For V2g to work, you need to spend thousands of dollars to add the equipment to your home to connect your EV and to make sure your home is disconnected from the grid during a power outage, most people are not willing to pay the $5k USD or so that it costs to use that feature, this is why many EV manufacturers haven't been pushing V2G. Ford has the option in their vehicles but according to the Ford website, the equipment is $5k + installation.

    • @meersde
      @meersde 8 месяцев назад

      @@S2kDude36 V2G is not only (it´s often less) relevant for blackout prevention. OK, if you live in a country with more blackouts than here in europe, priorities are different.
      For Europe: 99% of the use case is delivering power in times when local solar doesn´t generate enough. Or using variable power tariffs to store/load in cheap times and sell or use battery energy when the grid is expensive. It´s an additional business model for any battery (local or in BEV) and is useful every day, even when the grid is on.

      When you receive a Tesla update it can reprogram every controller, microcontroller, BMS, ECU, etc in the car, not just the infotainment unit. Seriously you can hear various contactors and systems powering down, then after a pause coming back online one by one again. It is quite freaky to sit in there and hear it coming alive again. I doubt legacy automakers have such a complete chain of connectivity which is why their OTA sometimes is just that and other times they may need to plug in at the service center. They still have a way to go I guess.

      I've been on plenty of road trips in my EV, after 200 miles it's nice to stop and get a 15-20 min charging break, even in the winter time the range is still at least 200 miles between charging stops in a long range EV. The technology is there, just seems like you are not there yet.

      Contingency for roadworks and traffic generally makes you travel slower and therefore better range. It's only when you have a gearbox and can't use all of the gears is when you take a range hit for the given fuel.

    I think the defined "underpoweredness" in this video makes sense in the VW upgrade. In Europe in general you do not need that much power with everyday use and holidays. And a less powered engine means less power use, which us more frugal and potentially more range. I think 160 km/hr is more than enough speed buffer for most cars. I think the, if worry for "underpoweredness" is the narrative, is a question of perspective. The only two reasons I can think of you need more is track racing with your own car and pulling trailers/caravans. But then that should be the narrative in vehicles. Volkswagen = people's car, not Lamborghini.

      I think a larger screen is overrated. I currently drive an Aygo 2005. No touchscreen. No blinding lights from a bright screen distracting me from driving in the the early moring ir late evening when driving. I think touch screens, if becoming the norm, should be able to be turned off when we want to. The glaring light from a touchscreen in a car is bright and distracting for the driver, even more so when touchscreena are angled by default towards the driver, which I find strange. A center touchscreen should be just as accessible for the front passenger, and frankly that disrepctful towards other passengers in the car. A center touchscreen is so multifunctional these days, I don't understand why they prefer a disproportionate skew to directed functionality towards the driver. It reminds me of a plane, but a car is not a plane. At the end of the day, we should still be paying attention towards the road not the screen. Enough (dangerous) accidents still happen by distracted driving unfortunately. Even if autonomous driving is the norm, it is still remarkable to see all the screens functionality pushed more to the drivers side, than the passengers side for access. It reminds me somewhat of legacy design.

      It's not like gas cars where a larger more powerful engine uses more power. In an EV, more powerful motors don't equate to less efficiency, that's up to the driver, more power is there if you need it but if you don't use it, a more powerful motor can be just as efficient as one with less power. Besides, an EV doesn't have an engine, it's an electric motor.

    I don't understand this absolute obsession that people have about range on an EV. The number of miles I can go without refueling (whether ICE or EV) has *never* influenced my buying decision on a car. My current ICE car has less range than the great majority of EVs, and it has never been the slightest concern to me. And I very rarely refuel my car more than 25 miles from home. If I had an EV, it would be "refueled" in my garage through my solar panels.
    I would not give a single thought to a Volkswagen EV until they are able to offer real over the air updates.

      This is the problem, many people think they require longer range for the once maybe twice a year road trip even if it is only aspirational. If they have families or pets I believe it negates the need to go non-stop or with minimal breaks. However, having driven across the width (almost) of western Europe (for a whole day) regularly myself for several years in both forms of transport and arriving either tired with one meal break/refuel stop or with two extra charge stops for up to 30 minutes (and arriving less tired) then I prefer the latter, YMMV (pun intended).

Unfortunately, even for Tesla, here in the USA, some areas of the country are a bit thin with respect to chargers. In planning my travel to see the eclipse next April, I realized that in those situations where you may expect a surfeit of simultaneous travelers, there may not be sufficient stations to support the traffic.

    • @Snerdles

      This is just delusional. Since you could only charge 10-80 quickly that would mean, in ideal conditions, you'd only be able to travel 147 miles on any leg of a trip. You'd have to stop for 30 minutes under every 2 hours. It would make any long trip, especially if you lose another 20% because it's cold out, completely unbearable.

    • @slowercuber7767
      @slowercuber7767 8 месяцев назад

      @@Snerdles no, not delusional, apparently, I’m not communicating well. My MY LR has a nominal range at 100% of over 300 miles. At 80% the projected range is around 270, but that’s down to zed. Keeping it between 20-80 is my target and that leaves me only around 210 to actually use most of the time, though it would allow me to stretch to 240 (80-10) or up to over 300 were I to need the extra bit. But charging to high percentage is slow and can be inconvenient, and dropping to low percentage can reduce car functions and stress the passengers or even the driver. I have in my ICE past sometimes enjoyed long, bladder limited stretches of road, but as the limiting factors have shrunk over the years, a desire has grown in me to stretch my legs a little and defocus off the road for 10 or 20 minutes every 3 hours or so. I suppose I really should have said 210 miles of quick charging actual range not implied that 210 total miles of ternary battery backed range would be adequate for making long trips, for that, for most trips in the US on interstates, one should find having a little over 210 miles of reliable, fast charging range to suffice.

      They announced around 15mins for 400km Charging...and 700km Range...compared to 35mins for about 250km Charging, which is common today.
      Ok, still no 1000km like a Diesel (I am driving one, too)...but starting with 100% Batterie, means easily 1000km per day, with a stop of 15mins, which would you do anyway on such a distance.
      VW is a little bit slower I am afraid and it will take a real facelift in 2024/25 for something like this...or even 2027, when not only Audi is using 800v Systems, but VAG in general.
