    Yes, cam phasers and timing chain tensioners require proper oil pressure to function correctly. That's true. However, the timing chain tensioners have a ratcheting mechanism so they will never loosen, even in the complete absence of oil pressure. And the cam phasers similarly don't need oil pressure in those first three seconds after engine start-up because they aren't doing anything to change camshaft timing.

    I picked up one at Smokey Mountain Jeep Invasion last august. Have not had a singe ticking start since installation with the spin on adapter. Since then I have added a top mount supercharger. Unfortunately this wouldn’t work with the top mounts, so I ran into them at JeepBeach23 and found they make a remote adapter that fits under the supercharger and works just as good with the remote filter adapter. Super great product!!! Well worth the money when compared to the cost of lifter repair bill or motor replacement.

    Unless I’m missing something, all engines need time for the oil to reach critical parts, that’s why I was instructed, 60 years ago, to never rev your engine when first starting. You need time to allow the oil to flow throughout the engine before taking off. Also, that’s why you always check your oil level after 5-10 minutes after shutting off the engine.

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  Год назад +2

      You don't rev the engine when first starting because the oil is cold, not because it takes that long to reach critical parts. The oil system is fully functional within 3-5 seconds of startup, but depending on the engine can take 3-10 minutes or more for the engine to get to operating temperature. For the longevity of the engine, keep the RPMs as low as possible until the engine is at operating temp. As for checking the oil, its good to wait for the oil to drain back into the pan before checking the level. 5-10 minutes is excessive. You can get an accurate reading after about 30 seconds. That's why its possible to accurate check your oil while you're filling the vehicle at the gas station and don't have to wait past the fill up time to get an accurate reading. Thank you for your comments!

    I think it’s worth mentioning that when performing the oil change it would be of paramount importance to make sure the air supply is clean, and free of moisture/debris. Most shop air is not. A bike pump or inflater would be better than shop air.

    I replaced all my rocker arms on my Ram C/V 3.6 work van just five years ago replaced all push rods and inspected the cams closely , and three months ago they began ticking again , I installed the Baxter adapter and the ticking stops in seconds after start up because the top end is now lubricated immediately after start up. What you will have to do is use the "clear flood mode" for the initial cold start of the day. Depress the throttle all the way, crank the engine for about 5 seconds and then let off the throttle. In that 5 seconds prior to it firing you will have primed the oil system fully.

    The lifters fail due to lack of oil changes and using inferior oil/filters from quick lube places and running long @ss oem suggested oil change intervals resulting in sludge buildup that finds its way into lifters causing them to bleed down after oil pressure is released. The higher pressure internal bypass of the can style filter traps more trash for longer before the filter is restricted causing full bypass that stops the oil from being filtered. Is it a good idea to use air pressure to force the trash thats trapped in the oil filter back into the oil pan at oil changes? I'd say no!

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  5 месяцев назад

      "Pushing the trash into the oil pan... " you mean to the oil pump where its picked up and run back through the filter? How do you think the trash is getting into the engine if it gets pushed back into the pan? You think it migrates over to the crank cause it happens to be in the neighborhood? That's not how it works. The air pressure is very light, you need like 7 pounds to clear out the oil, most of the "trash" is going to stay in the filter media anyway. But any that does is just going to sit harmlessly in the pan until it gets sucked back up by the oil pump and sent back into the filter. There is no issue here. And yes, we agree with you 100% that lack of oil changes and using cheap oil causes the lifters to fail. As we've said over, and over and over, and as we'll say again, we don't think this solution is a magic wand for your lifters; we think it is a good, smart step that will probably increase the life of the engine, along with regular oil changes and along with using good oil.

      We have like 4 of these videos on different vehicles we have; we're big fans of the product. On one of them, one of the wranglers, we did exactly this and it works great. The only thing you need to do is make sure you match the adapter to the housing. For us, we have a 2013 Wrangler that got the 2015+ upgraded oil housing, so we had to go with the 2015+ Baxter adapter. On our other 2013 Wrangler, without the updated cooler, we installed the 2013/2014 Baxter adapter. Thanks for the question!

      We asked Dr. Torque about it and this is what he said: I don't have any oil leaks on the new aluminum housing. It has been less than a year, though. I also used the actual Dorman unit instead of one of the cheap Chinese knockoffs, so hopefully that will help. The stock plastic unit on my wife's Jeep has started to leak. It is six years old. I do see people saying to use Mopar seals, since many of the cheaper ones may fail more quickly.

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  3 месяца назад

      Not in the US, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for manufacturers to void your warranty due to aftermarket equipment, unless they can prove the aftermarket equipment caused the failure. That said, as we've said over and over, if you're not comfortable don't install this until you're out of warranty. We're convinced it helps, and we're glad we have it, but its not a make or break addition that you have to add immediately. Its a great idea that will help oil get to your lifters a little faster and over the life of the motor, that will probably add up and extend the life of the engine for you. But its not worth risking the warranty if you aren't comfortable. Just pick one up and once the engine's out of warranty, then go ahead and install it.

      Excellent question, and we probably should have mentioned that in the video. The short answer is no. Some dealerships will try to tell you that if you modify your vehicle then that makes it ineligible for warranty and this is absolutely not true. Thanks to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a dealer must prove that the aftermarket equipment caused the need for warranty repairs before it can deny coverage. Some dealers will charge you a diagnostic fee if they think the warranty claim will be kicked, but after diagnostics if it's determined the aftermarket part did not cause the problem, they will refund you the diagnostic fee. Baxter Performance has a great write-up here: www.baxterperformanceusa.com/does-installing-baxter-performance-adapters-affect-my-warranty/ . Thanks so much for the question!

      We've addressed both these comments before but happy to do so again. With all the cheap products out there that don't last and just focus on being as cheap as possible to get the sale, we're pleased to have found a product that's made in the USA and designed to last. We honestly wouldn't want to put anything on such a critical part of our engine that used any cheap parts or labor to lower the cost. This is one of those areas where you get what you pay for. As to the warranty, the Magnuson-Moss act prohibits manufacturers from voiding warranty claims unless they can prove the system caused the problem. However, as we say to anyone who is worried about the warranty aspect: wait until after the warranty period if you're concerned about warranty issues. Thanks for the comment!

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  8 месяцев назад +1

      Sigh. Your exclamation points not withstanding, it will not void the warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Act prohibits manufacturers from voiding warranties because of aftermarket parts installation. Its been around for almost 50 years. The aftermarket part has to be the *cause* of the failure for a manufacturer to void the warranty. They can't void it simply because you installed aftermarket parts. This is 'Merica!, we don't work like that. That said, we'll say what we say to every single person who has hesitation about installing this on their rig and having an issue with a future warranty claim: don't install it now. There's no hurry. Once your Jeep is out of warranty, then you can buy this and install it. 60k miles or whatever your Jeep's factory warranty is isn't going to cause terminal wear without this upgrade. The upgrade only helps extend the longevity of the motor anyway. So if it worries you, just don't do it. Bam, no worries.

      @MotorsandMischief  8 месяцев назад +1

      ....... You're awfully passionate for someone who hasn't got their facts straight. If you actually read the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, it makes no differentiation between parts or a modification. It stipulates that warranties cannot be voided merely due to the use of aftermarket parts or services. All aftermarket parts can be considered modifications. Manufacturers have to prove the non-original part or service was the cause of the defect to deny warranty claims. But look friend, no one is forcing you to buy this. We aren't even the sellers on this item. We simply liked it, installed it on our own vehicle and made a video about. Don't think its worth $400? Great, don't install it. Think it will void your warranty? No worries, don't install it. But please stop spreading false information for people who do find the modification to be valuable and worth the money.

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  2 месяца назад

      Do you... do you think that because a small amount of oil is held in the filter that somehow changes the level in the engine....? Wow. Ok, so yes a few ounces of oil is held in the oil filter, but that is not a significant amount of oil even if you poured it directly into the pan. And you're not pouring it into the pan, you're holding it in the filter for startup and during engine run the oil is being circulated too fast for it to make any difference. It 100%, absolutely, positively, in no meaningful manner "makes your oil dipstick useless." As to the effectiveness of the product, is it as good as we'd hoped? No. Does it ensure some oil gets to the engine sooner than if it was there. Absolutely. Is that worth $400? Depends on the person. For us, yes. If it extends the longevity of the engine even a little, its worth it. For others, maybe not. For sure make up your own mind. But at the end of the day its putting oil on the cams sooner. • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  Год назад +1

      The filters you're referring to are not really at the bottom of the engine, they're at the side, above the oil pump, and those filters have check valves. So the engine is only pumping oil from the filter which is maybe 2/3s or half of the distance to the bottom of the pan and the oil pick up. For this 3.6, there is a noticeable difference in valve clatter at startup on this engine between when its been sitting and when it was only recently turned off. When you add this adapter, you'll notice less valve clatter, so the system is making a difference that you can hear at every startup. Is this absolutely necessary and the engine will blow up without it? Of course not. But for folks who want to get the most longevity out of their motors, the less time the engine spends running without oil on startup, the better. But its not a scam and everything we reported on is backed up by rigorous testing. Check out www.baxterperformanceusa.com/videos there are videos showing the drain back on the factory system. Thanks for your passion, truly. First, I’m a master tech too, got all the ASE certs, just so we’re on the same page. Second, we don’t make this product, so we can’t really send you one, you’d have to talk to the manufacturers, they’re nice guys. Third, this does work and it’s not snake oil because when you fire the Jeep up before installation, you can hear valve train noise. When you fire it up after installation, you don’t. It’s that simple. The question of if that extra lubrication is worth $400 is extremely valid, and for some people it’s probably not. But it absolutely works as designed, just like a conventional spin on oil filter with a standard anti drainback device. If this wasn’t useful based on oil bonding agents, manufacturers wouldn’t bother installing anti drainback valves into filters any longer, they’d save the money. But they do, because they work. Again, you can actually hear the difference after you install it. So if you don’t think it’s worth the money or you’d rather put the $400 into a different upgrade, that’s totally fine and we don’t even necessarily disagree with you. But please don’t call it snake oil because it does exactly what it promises.
