I know very high rise is your preference, and they look great on you. But the mid rise jeans actually look fantastic on you! They really balance your proportions nicely. All these jeans look great on you!
Came to say exactly this! I used to wear high rise all the time thinking it makes *anyone's* legs look longer...turns out I have short torso and high rise jeans were just messing up my proportion 😂 Just bought a pair of COH jeans mid rise flared and it's like custom fit❤
I think Helen would look better in mid-rise, high-rise is overrated imo and actually emphasises the tummy area by creating this plain wide area that focuses on the tummy. Also, with high rise you then can't see the waistband/belt and pockets unless you tuck the top in, and waistband and pockets are nice details that take focus away from a bulging tummy, most of us have a little bulging tummy, especially after a meal.
I think Mango sells one of the best quality denim clothing among fast fashion brands. The only downside is that their jeans are made for very tall people, but I prefer to wear heels anyway so personally, it does not bother me.
Helen. The jeans graph you made is EXCELLENT. sometimes I just wanna see something exactly like THAT. A visual that quickly tells me which are cheap/expensive, which are low/high quality etc and it's PERFECT. Thanks for sharing!!!!❤
I wish every company would list the Rise length in their descriptions. For me that is always one of the main factors when picking out jeans. I am shortwaisted so it is my number one consideration.
I haven't found the perfect pair of jeans, but so far the Levis' 501 original cropped is the closest. The fit is a flattering straight with a slight tapered leg, the rise is not too high or too low, just right on my body (I never tuck in my top). The only thing is I wish it had the 1-2% elastane for more comfort. 100% cotton is not something I'm used too.
I have them and washed them with vinegar and then put them in the dryer with dryer balls and a towel. This softened them nicely so not so stiff. I also went up a size, just a bit looser made them more comfortable.
Helen this is such a great and comprehensive review, great content as usual :) I actually really like the mid-rise styles on you too and agree on straight leg being a great shape for you. I'm not a big denim girl but when I do wear denim, I like a high waisted, full length and flare style. I'm 5'7" with long legs and curvy hips/chest, I just find that style to flatter me the most (something like Levi's 70's High Flater or the 726 Flare). I look off balanced in straight leg pants so I guess that aren't universally flattering. I gotta try the Uniqlo denim pants after watching your video, I think I would love those.
I can’t wait to try the everlane! I love my ribcage. We have a great local brand here in Canada called Yoga jeans. Snagged two pairs at the beginning of the year and have been wearing them on repeat.❤
I avoid super trendy jeans (big cuffs, two-toned, embellished, etc) and stick with straight or wide leg. I'll never wear skinny jeans or super low riders again. You are right, find your most flattering and stick with it. Saves you a lot of money as well. Thank you!
I recently tried Pull & Bear jeans and I´m pleasantly surprised. I tried pairs that have a 1% stretch in them and I am so happy I tried a pair. Sometimes you just get a little sick of thinking that only Levi´s and further up the price range are good for a little more curve.
Love your videos and this is no exception! Just stopping by to comment on button-fly vs zip. I didn’t used to have a preference, but after having 2 babies I’m definitely team button-fly! It holds everything in nicely whereas zip is less smooth and flattering for me now. Happy denim shopping all👖👋🏼
Ive been a jeans girl since I remember. So my preference would be 99% cotton and 1% elastine. It last better than those that have a lot of elastine. 100% cotton does honestly lasts longer and has that great structure but you need to wear it off first before it softens a bit. High rise is always good especially for women like me who are not tall.
Once I discovered the Everlane Way-High’s, I never went back. I now practically own a pair in every color and the way are the only jeans I will wear. Yes they are pricey, but Everlane has sales often so you should wait to get them at half-price! 😊
Thanks Helen. The Mango jeans looks most flattering for your in camera. The high waisted jeans tend to enhance the size of our bottom, tummy, and proportion, but they are very comfortable especially the lyocell ribcage. The deep creases on the Evelane jeans in the front makes it looks tight and strange... ❤
My Levi’s are the longest lasting in my wardrobe, the cheaper ones always go shapeless quicker. And I don’t care about trends, I just do the ones that are flattering on me
I found my perfect straight leg jeans in M&S in the UK, Autograph straight leg jeans with lyocell, (£49.50) they come in a lighter and mid-blue and in different lengths so no need to alter them. They're very soft and comfortable, and completely straight all the way down the leg, they do not taper in any way and they're a slim fit, not a baggy fit. They're described as high waist but they're not too high waist (my preferred waist would me mid-rise, which is difficult to find at the moment). I bought multiple pairs after years of searching. For a gentle bootcut, I love M&S Eva Bootcut jeans at just £25
I haven’t purchased new denim for a long time until I stumbled upon a small store in my city last year that offers Armed Angels denim. I went back & forth between the straight-leg or the slim fit one (both are 100% recycled cotton), but ended up choosing the slim fit pair (I think the model is called Fjella) because it sits better on my waist. If you’re looking for straight leg jeans & don’t mind higher rise or shortening the inseam, the Aaikala model from Armed Angels is a good one!
The 501 90s look better on you than the ribcage. You have a small and short torso so the ribcage cuts too high and wide and makes your torso look even smaller. The 501s make you look more balanced ❤
I love both but prefer the look of the ribcage! ❤ While it's true that the 501 looks more balanced, i think it makes the outfit proportions a bit more dramatic, she looks super tall with beautiful long legs :)
At this point, Levi’s would owe you a hefty commission payment for the countless number of ribcage jeans sales you’ve undoubtedly brought them throughout the past three years!! 😄 They would be smart to hire you for a modeling session because you wear them so well!! 😻 I think the Arket pair looks really nice on you!! In terms of waist definition, the rise seems just right!👌 The back pockets on the pairs from Sezane and Uniqlo are verging on looking comically small in my opinion lol 😅 But the reinforced waistband is a very thoughtful detail on the Sezane pair! I know when it’s time to wash my jeans because the waistband will have a lot of creasing and not sit as flat anymore without a belt. I would imagine this might never be an issue with a reinforced waistband, and I bet this might actually be a fairly easy thing to sew in as an alteration with a strip of denim fabric or even some twill tape. 🤔 I was also very surprised by the look of the pair from Mango! Although, I have pretty low expectations for how long they would retain their polished appearance. 🙃
I love how you look in the Ribcage too. I would suggest trying Levi wedgie bootcut. You may like them for a change. Personally, no matter how I try expensive jeans, I always go back to Levis. they know how to make jeans, and the pockets are just iconic. Can I say I HATE the Agolde Riley? They dont seem flattering.
I got my first lyocell Ribcabe thanks to your video last year. Loved it. So I bought a darker color pair too. and recently I got another pair of Ribcage with linen, lyocell and elastane. IT feels amazing. It's like the improved version. At first, I sized up and felt kinda baggy and sized down for my next purchases. Because of lyocell, they still feel breezy for summer in the Us midwest
I’ve been wanting to try those Arket Rose jeans for such a long time! I have 2 Mango mom jeans and I love them. I’m 5’4” and they fit great. Also the Hush Alex Straight leg jeans.
Agree, she looks great in all of them, but at the beginning of the video where she has flashes of herself in different jeans, I was immediately drawn to the Agolde jeans on her.
Wonderful advice as always. For me, with long legs and a short torso (max height Flamboyant Gamine), I like to balance my overall proportions. I have several pairs of high rise jeans that I love and they make my legs look incredibly long, especially in heels, but then my torso looks terribly small on proportion, so I tend to untuck my top, often assymetrically. :)
Thank you Helen! I am about the same size as you, so your feedback is very helpful! I heard good things about Madewell jeans and ordered a bunch that I unfortunately had to return because the fit just wasn't right. I will try out your recommendations now :)
I think Helen would look better in mid-rise, high-rise is overrated imo and actually emphasises the tummy area by creating this plain wide area that focuses on the tummy. The Petits need to thread carefully the high and super-high raises, it’s flattering on the booty but on the front…not so much we seem to have the trousers on the boobs and aren’t comfortable when we bend or when we eat.
Just liked and subscribed. recently found out I'm part Japanese via dna testing and I feel v excited because I wear all these longline styles everyday. thanks for excellent content.
My favourites are the sezane wide leg and the levis ribcage with mix of cotton and tencel. Now I want to try the everlane ones. Are they thick cotton? Thank you ❤
I love denim. I live in it. I especially love vintage denim. Can't fit my ass in a pair of Levi's to save my life, they're just not made for my body. And I've bought a pair of agolde off of Poshmark and they're not worth the money imo, I was expecting the nice thick delicious denim that compares to my vintage ones , not even close. In the affordable realm if you're a curvy girl try Gaps cheeky straight. I reach for those over any of the modern brands that I have.
@@jenniferprince1362 great suggestions for people who aren't plus sized I feel. I can barely fit both those brands lol I do have a pair of second hand Abercrombie that are nice, but I find they fit small, and because of that I need to feel not bloated like torturing myself a little to wear em. Made well I have never tried.
Thank you for this incredible review! I just bought the everlane jeans, excited to try these! I already have the Levi's rib cage, and wear them a lot! They definitely look better on your frame than the Levi's 501, 90's style. ❤️

At the beginning of the video where you displayed flashes of yourself in the different styles, I was immediately drawn to you in the Agolde ones, before I even know what kind they were. You look super awesome in those. You look great in all of them though. Thank you for this great video!
Have you tried any from Mother? I only wear Everlane now, but may try out Mother soon after feeling how comfortable they were at Nordstrom. The style I was interested in was completely sold out online and in stores though!
If the pockets are shorter than my fingers….pass. I’ve noticed Amanda from Gloria Vanderbilt fit me well. My favorite pair are wide cropped button fly by Madewell. I do have a Lyocell/cotton pair o black trouser jeans by Levi.
Sorry for the semi-unrelated question but I've been in love with that sweater you've been wearing in this and a few other videos (the "Round Neck Drop-Shoulder Merino Wool Sweater" by Lilysilk), however, it is merino wool and dry clean only. Do you dry clean it, or are you able to get away with handwashing it? If you do dry clean it, how often? I'm thinking of purchasing it at some point, but I'm admittedly a bit lazy and stingy when it comes to dry cleaning...
I hope to find something for me on my denim quest. At least Levis, Mango and P&B are available in my country, but I'm not sure if I can take this advice as I'm a size 40/L pear and these will probably look a lot different on me... Does anyone closer to my size like these cuts?
Definitely did not like the butt on the Agoldes. I thought the Pull & Bear butt was great but something was off about them - maybe the wash? fabric quality, perhaps? Have you tried Levi’s Wedgies? They’re my favorite. I’m also interested in trying Agolde 90s pinch waist, but hopefully the butt is better than the Rileys.
One thing I've had trouble with is finding black jeans that don't stink so bad! Idk what they're treating them with or what kind of dye they're using but good grief they stink! I've tried from Levi's and the Gap and both I had to get rid of after trying to wash the stink out of them for over a year. Sigh...
Im noticing you like straightness in the hip area. The midrise ones give your hips a more curvy look. I find the length of the fly is important to me. I hate when the fly is too ahort!!
I own the Arket jeans but I am not too happy with them since they widened a lot and really lost shape! My friend said the same thing happened to her Arket Jeans too . The Levi’s ribcage keep their shape better. I ordered the Everlane now to try out. Thank you for the video and best wishes from Germany!
I agree with the Levi’s and Sezane Le crop. I wish you could also try Abercrombie. The moment I went inside their store to try on their jeans I ended up buying 3 pairs! They come in all lengths, washes and curves that you just want to have them all!
I didn't know that lyocell made fabrics lighter! I definitely need to learn more about the different roles of different fabrics and see some practical examples too. I would love to see your take on this Helen 🫶

I like the high rise jeans on her too, but the levis 501 90s looked phenomenal on her. I really liked it.
The 90s 501 looked a bit like they gave her a camel toe. I find the same thing happens to me.

Mid rise look soooooo much better on you. High rise look especially crappy on petite people.
The art in your background is so cute
Long time subscriber and I find your content really helpful as I have similar body type but distracted by you talking with mouth filled with spit
I wish Uniqlo had longer inseams 😢 I’ve been wanting to try them but my 5’9 frame says no 😅
Thank you Helen. Love this video ❤
Thank you for this video! What are the exact shades you have for the ribcage Levi’s? Thank you!
It’s interesting how they all look different so this is very much an inspiration 🦋
I like mid rise on you 👌🏼
I agree with the Levi’s and Sezane Le crop.
