    I always appreciate your reminder that you need to consider fabrication and overall design when considering the practicality and versatility of a piece.

    The purpose of those sleeveless sweaters is actually for wearing under blazers for work! wearing a full sweater under a blazer can be too bulky and too hot especially once you're inside with heating

    I won’t buy anything made with acrylic. It’s a very cheap fabric. It will not hold up and tends to pill a lot. Unfortunately, a lot of sweaters these days are made with acrylic.

    I bought two sweaters from Everlane that I didn’t realize had bell sleeves. 😅 You’re right - it’s not fun to cram them in there.

      Aww, I love my Everlane sweaters with bell sleeves because they are so soft and flattering on me. Granted, it never really gets cold enough where I live to require layering a jacket on top 😅

    I was looking at a sleeveless wool/cashmere turtleneck on Depop that I thought could work over some long sleeve shirts, but you helped me really consider the versatility of the piece. Especially since it's just something I saw and thought looked nice, not something I need. Thank you for your time and effort to make such helpful and inspiring videos!
    Also I am loving your hair these days!!

      I'm someone who gets hot and loves wearing cardigans. I love these kind of sleeveless turtlenecks because I can mix and match with all of my cardigans without getting overly warm but still feeling stylish.

    My Japanese office blasts AC in summer and heating in winter. My European heart hurts when I can't wear wool sweaters. Basically the office is warmer in winter than in summer. Make that make sense.

    Such a subtle and classic style 😍 I agree with fake or thinly plated jewelry. They wear out and the scratches on the surface do not look good. I go for pure gold or silver , always.
    Also agree with the shoe thing.

    Totally agree with you on gold plated jewelry. It won't last. I only wear solid gold or silver pieces. They last a life time. Some of my gold necklaces have been with me for almost 30 years now.

      Hi, I'm considering the Clyde in Khaki. What size did you get? Was it true to size? I am thinking to wait until I can try it on, if I get to a store in future. I'm a UK 10 on top now after being a UK 8, so I'm a little bit in between but still think the XS would be better for me as I don't wear chunky knits. It's all about the cut of things.

    I really like a boatneck, it suits my narrow shoulders, however I will buy a quality fitted piece, like you say, bulky with a big sleeve doesn't work on me either. I have found that they keep their shape just fine. I am noticing more feminine details on tops now, I do like them and I can recognise a delicate piece over a trendy piece. If it reminds of the 80s or 90s then I pass haha. Thanks so much for the boots/sole tip, I learned a lot there.

    You always hit the nail on the head ☺️ considered purchases, knowing what suits you, consider your lifestyle. I think you mentioned a raincoat at the beginning. I can recommend a french brand called Aigle. I use it all year round (it's not a trench) In the UK we need this. Plenty of room for layering size up. Great if you are petite. Has a removable button up hood for rain and wind, big pockets. It's the one I use year round, mine is in a neutral colour. Useful for travel.Not an advert 😊.
    Thanks Helen loved your vlog😘

    What % of acrylic would you "accept" in a non-technical piece of clothing (e.g. if its under 2%)? And what % of other synthetic fibers would you accept in clothing?

    • @FutureBillionaire1111
      @FutureBillionaire1111 22 дня назад +2

      If you MUST buy a sweater with Acrylic, try to go for less than 10%. Anything more and you'll have to throw it out after 3 washes.

    • @honor_martin
      @honor_martin 22 дня назад +1

      I personally wouldn’t accept any in knitwear. It’s truly not necessary in most cases. (although I’ve heard mohair sometimes requires it to keep the hairs together?) I personally only allow small amounts of elastane. Less than 10% in cotton tee shirts, 2% in jeans. That’s just my rule, something else might work for you!
      If you’re looking for cost effective composition, a lot of places will have 95% cotton/5% cashmere sweaters that aren’t craaazy expensive.

  • @marianapereirae
    @marianapereirae 22 дня назад +1

    Always right on, Helen. I also came to the same conclusions about the Clyde trench, I have an hourglass frame, and it just didn't work for me, and apart from the dark green color is very "fall," Sezane trenches have a major flaw for me because they don't come with a removable hood. For me, the function of a trench is to protect you enough for the transitional periods that usually come along with seasonal rain. Living in the Netherlands, where it's rainy most of the time, it's not functional or versatile enough to justify the purchase.

    I see so many influencers who flaunt their Cartier and Tiffany jewelry but once they get a sponsorship from a lower end brand they’re all like yes they’re better and we should buy these plated jewelry too. However I do like Mejuri and have severe pieces from them that are solid gold only.

      I bought the trench and I sized up. Fits nice open over my knits. I live in Ireland and I have about 9 months a year where I need something like that. I even wear it with skirts and shorts and ballet flats in the summer. So it might not be good for warm countries but I love it.

  • @JehanineMelmoth
    @JehanineMelmoth 9 дней назад +1

    As a vegan I don’t buy wool, leather, silk, suede or fur. But I don’t buy acrylic or polyester either. I buy faux leather shoes - it’s great being able to wash them under the tap! But most of my clothes are fine vintage cotton. Lawn cotton and lisle were very much like silk. I try to buy everything secondhand for ethical reasons, but I get organic cotton undies at Pact. I’m saying all these because it would be nice if you remembered that some of us don’t want those ‘natural’ fibres that cause suffering and death.
