One of my friend’s 4’11 and she’s always rocking long skirts, midis and long dresses. Just experiment and see what skirt length and style flatters you when you’re out trying on clothes
1. Details should be be sized down - go for smaller details/prints/patterns/ruffles 2. Avoid undefined neckline and shoulders - go for more fitted tops 3. Avoid long & flowing sillhoettes - seperates suits petite better (if you still want to wear it you could go for something that has some kind of in between break) 4. Avoid visual weight at the hem - try to bring up the visual weight as much as possible; shorter shoulder bags can help; 5. Avoid heavy fabric without drape 6. Avoid overly angular details if you have softer features
I totally agree with you about small details being better for petites. I never understood why large details were always so overwhelming on my, so thank you for pointing that out.
Great tips Helen. As a petite person I really appreciate that you are not trying to make someone look taller. I'm fine with being petite but for some reason people can assume you want to look taller😬 Agree about the voluminous clothing can be overwhelming. However I think the collar size helps if it's smaller. I like the drape of a big shirt but keeping the collar small and cuffs folded up. Another way is a body Con dress with a scoop neck with a shirt over with a crossbody bag. You give so much information and detail and I really enjoy that. You give me great ideas!! ❤❤❤
As a 5' person, long skirts do suit me, also maxi dresses, the only factor to fix is the length of such. And I've noticed that you're right, tops that define shoulders and neck make such a difference. As well as longer skirts on the flowy side frame my shape better, and if it's shorts or shorter skirts, if they're less busy (less ruffles imo) it looks way better
I am petite, 5’4” and love it! I never have desire to be taller. I love cute and feminine details on clothing. They go perfectly with petite and slender frame. I can do decent sewing and can shorten or take in clothes when they are not specifically designed for petite. It started as necessity, has evolved to be a hobby.
As a taller girl I'm loving the new perspective in the size of the details on your clothing, like I'm kinda taking the opposite of your advice. It now makes sense why undefined necklines and larger details look better on me and I've never really thought about it. Thank you!!!
I’m five feet nothing. Anything with too much fabric just doesn’t work for me at all. I love long dresses too but I think it’s all about proportion. The one thing that really doesn’t work at all are wide pants everyone is wearing. The “width” of the wide leg needs to be proportional to my size.
I love the video! I also agree with the suggestion of picking the correct tshirt that fits a person. I just have to disagree with the avoidance of long flowy dresses/skirt with details on the bottom/ balloon hem dress as a petite. I think these types of pieces can work depending on the styling. We can wear pieces on the upper half of the body that can ballance out the volume on the bottom (like a statement earring, or statement necklace, or cropped jacket). Rather than avoid pieces of clothing, it would be a much progressive practice to learn styling them correctly.
As a curvy petite/dramatic romantic I find large prints look nice on me if the colors are few or neutral. Small patterns and details look best on me in rich and bold colors, otherwise they age me or drain my look.
I’m petite, too, but can’t wear high heels (3-inch or higher) or pointed toes. I love wearing mid-heels (2 to 2.75-inch), especially block ones and square toes. For the first time in my life, there are many chic shoes available with this heel height, it’s wonderful. I suffered a lot during my career, because there was absolutely nothing between a complete, ugly flat and 3-inch and up stiletto heels, that was appropriate for my conservative office. My Sezane Paula Babies are my favorites, if they ever re-stock them in Navy and Purple (really a burgundy), I will have all I need. Well, a forest or Kelly green would be beautiful, and I’d get plenty of wear out of them, too!
5'4"/163cm with a different style, it's so interesting how I subconsciously followed all of these tips in my style journey over the years! At least for my favorite outfits especially! Now I better understand how I can catch those stylish lightings in a bottle more often. Thank you so much for sharing! ✨
really helpful for petite person like me, such great tips!! please can you make a video about winter outfits as well? it's so hard to find petite-friendly winter clothes
I have a petite style secrets video (about 8-12 months ago ish) on my channel all focused on winter looks :) i share all my favourite tips and I still use all of them now 🥰
I think the separate tip is more applicable to you/your style and your personal color (sounds weird, I know) than to petite in general. I’m also petite (5’2, 90lbs, with small frame), and separation doesn’t work for me as well as no separation. I actually look more drown in separate outfit. My guess is that the separation adds more contrast to my lack-of-contrast image, which makes it less flattering, whereas the more delicate an outfit is the more flattering I look, coming from a summer light. I remember you were typed as an autumn, which means you can tolerate/need contrast, and thus explain why separation works better for you.

This is becoming more and more common. It’s caused by repeated exposure to plastics or plasticizers (phthalates maybe?) and my generation, born 1960, is the first to spend a lifetime wearing plastic clothes and having plastic in everything in our environments. My skin finally had enough, as is happening with many other people. I get a double-hit now that I get hot flashes, too, plastic fabrics aren’t breathable. All that “tech, breathable, flow-through” stuff is just advertising nonsense. There is no such thing as “breathable plastic”.
Yay, love seeing your videos on my feed! Your style and advice makes a lot of sense from a Gamine body type perspective, and even your style has naturally evolved to follow fashion advice for Soft Gamines (playful, bright colors, juxtaposing pieces, drapey fabrics). As a petite Soft Natural I can't follow every piece of advice from this video (fitted tops, defined shoulders, etc) but I definitely transform what you say or inspo I get from you into something that works for me x
I was actually first typed as a petite soft natural and I honestly find a lot of the recommendations there very aligned to my style too hahaha. But I think draped necklines are definitely more of a thing ❤
I will try to apply these... it's autumn now, time to throw out some old stuff and prepare for the new year approaching fast. Also, I am glad that this only has to apply to your outdoor wear. In my own 4 walls I wear my oversized snuggly pyjama suit and turn into the tiniest 1,52 m gremlin I can be!!
I think this is a golden video for me! I am 5'2 and have the same exact body type as you! It's very refreshing seeing someone with the same body type as me on RUclips, because I often cannot find the right fashion RUclipsr with the same proportions (all of the clothes I see people have just don't look right on me). Thank you.
I've gotta say, this is the only video of yours I've seen so far and I always skip over sponsorships, but you had so much good information included in that part of the video. Well done 😮
I would love to see your “petite fall recommendations.” It’s a totally different style of clothes and as a small girl I find myself drowning in stylish comfort clothes ❤❤❤
You definitely pull out the words from my mouth as to why some clothes look weird to me as a petite, and also underweight so I am incredibly small. I will probably always go back to this video haha
i find similarities in our styles usually and when i see something unique that i wouldn't normally think to wear or pair together im amazed and more open-minded. it helps that we're the exact same heights. such lovely outfits u made in this video; the pieces u tried on from fabrique are so my style 😌
At 5’4 1/2” and 130 lbs at my lowest weight I don’t fall into the petite category (although my Talbots Petite XL jumper fits me perfectly) but I can definitely use these tips. Love all of these looks!
This video is so helpful! As a petite girl, I can feel what looks good on me but couldn’t put a finger on what doesn’t. Thanks for pointing it out in such a nice video with gorgeous outfits and recommendations
We all should just wear what make us look good, flatters our own physique.. So what makes you look good is your own style..its something i discovered through myself. No only does it makes me look pretty but feel good and confident from inside out..😄...Thanks to this lady who is also encouraging that.".you are petite and shouldnt wear a long skirt! ".i dont agree to that too..its more about if its suits well.. make u look good..
Definitely, petite can also wear long skirts and dresses but depends on what kind but also if you are comfortable with it whatever just wear it anyway. 😁 What's trendy and In right now does not always mean it looks good and better.
When wearing two pieces, I recommend trying one color and learning more about the 1/3 rule. Just try it and take a photo. I think you would be surprised.
truly enjoyed watching your video! I have such a hard time finding my personal style especially being petite, things in the US are always too long on arms or too short like little gals' clothes.
Thank you for giving advice that accommodates petites across all style preferences. I feel like I'm always told to not wear long or midi skirts, long trousers, don't wear long coats just jackets and the list goes on. By the end of it, I'm stuck with a limited list of clothing items that I just wouldn't choose or feel good in!
The problem with the angular accessories/items etc. is probably more because you look very soft/have a soft appearance and not because of your size. Think of Jenna Ortega (155 cm/ 5'1") in her Wednesday Addams outfits. The sharp features look awesome on her!
Thanks for this great video! What do you do about bras for some of the shirts with thin straps or wide necklines? I hate wearing strapless bras but also don't like the look of bra straps sticking out of things.
I’m 5’4” or 164 cm, the average height of my fellow American women, but most brands are designed for fit women that are 5‘9” to 6-feet tall. The dropped shoulder-seam trend is disastrous for us petites. I keep seeing so many tops and sweaters I love except for that one detail, it really ruins the look. I’m not only short, but like many petites, have a very narrow frame, especially in the hips and shoulders. I’ve stopped shopping brands designed in Scandinavia, like H&M (designed in Sweden) and British brands like Reiss. It’s not just the ridiculously long overall length, and trouser/skirt/dress length, I don’t want those enormous necklines and shoulders! Blazers are a big problem, I agree - the shoulders never fit. I do better with Chinese, Spanish and Italian designed brands. I can only size down to a medium, because of my bust (34D) and waist size, but my hip/shoulder width is more like an XS. I could lose more weight, but it doesn’t help that much, and I’m am a good, slender healthy weight (125 lbs.) already, the torso just stores more body fat after menopause and there’s no such thing as spot, selective or targeted size reduction in certain areas (short of major surgery). Great petite tips, thank you Helen, I wish I still had your slim, youthful torso! Enjoy it every day, it doesn’t last forever! (Even if one doesn’t gain weight, the torso thickens because the body stores fat differently in mid-life, even on men).❤
Thank you so much! I think Scandinavian brands can be difficult as ladies there are on average tall. So I’m also very careful on what I purchase from those brands (unless I love it so much I would alter) 🥰❤️
This is so helpful as someone who is average height but looks shorter (my head looks large and I don't have any vertical to my frame, solely width)! Petite and petite-adjacent solidarity 💖🤝✨️
I have about 12 designer (everyday) *yutulu* bags + 3 *yutulu* clutches. I still have some bags on my wishlist, but my idea is not to build a huge collection, ever. I have also sold some bags that I no longer use. The selling process is not always easy and can take a lot of time. That's one reason why I consider long and hard before I buy something new.
Great tips! I am short but curvy so a few of those tips would not work on me (like the crewneck shirt, it would make the area above my bust make so long)
@@Cloud9crown yeah, I understand it's a lot. Those are not the type of pieces you get when you're experimenting, or trying to build a wardrobe from scratch. It really is a couple levels higher up and I'm at the edge of entering that. Her clothing is largely those "I'm gonna wear and love this for years to come, it's exactly what I like" type of things. :)
I live in Iran (it has mandatory hijab laws), so I have to wear tunics or jackets or coats when I go out (especially in places that dress codes are heavily monitored like the university). It's a nightmare to style it with a petite rectangle body shape. Any helpful advice would be appreciated 😘
i really enjoyed this video as someone who's still finding their style! if you don't mind, could uu link where uu got ur tiny pearl necklace? i've been looking for one for months!!
I’m 4’11. I never buy from Cos or Scandinavian labels because they are catered to taller women . My wardrobe is 50% Sezane and 50% Zara + H&M and thrifted clothes. Shoes wise I go for European made shoes / brand because I currently live in NZ and they don’t cater to petites. Jeans is a big struggle but I love Levi’s or vintage Levi’s (just need to hem) . Sometimes, I check the kids section cuz they do Mum and daughter ootds so you can get the smaller version of an item (ex. H&M and Zara) but now they raised the prices for Zara kids so I buy from women’s now 😂
Genuinely asking bc I'm confused, what is considered 'petite'?? Is it just the short height or does body shape also matter? Because 160cm is quite average for women in my country Anyway, I love your tips!
the dress as 13:12 looks so good on you!! where is it from? i tried looking at the desc bar but couldnt find the link to it. thanks in advance and loving this vid- super helpful tips!
Great tips. Anyone know where the dress with lace trim is from? at 12:11. I like the look with the white T under. I'm not slim like Helen so not sure how these styles would look on me but I like your recommendations, Helen.
Terrific content Helen. I'm wondering as a fellow petite, how do you find the fit of unisex pieces on a small frame? Eg. Unisex pieces at Uniqlo, Muji etc.
Thank you for making such videos. Very helpful. I am interested to purchase the Luise Maxi Skirt in Silk Cotton in size S. Can you please share with me the waist, hip and length of the skirt? I would not be able to return it easily if there is a mistake in the size.
Does she have a winter version? 😞 people always tell me winter is te best time for fashion because of layering but when I layer I feel like that Kanye roblox costume, so I stick with the clothes I feel comfy on but I might die from coldness
It’s just sad that I have dark underarms so I can’t follow the advice 😢. The treatment here in ph is too expensive so whenever I ask for dermatologist advice they will only provide their own products and gatekeepong the ingredients it has so I can buy alternatives in drugstore. I have sensitive skin and I keep scratching it when it get itch. I’m afraid to try applying products that may treat it because of my fear of worsening the itching. My bad if there’s any grammatical error.
It's so refreshing to see actual advice after hearing/seeing just "you can't wear long skirts as a petite" everywhere
I’m in a long skirt 9/10 times and honestly think it’s the best for petites :) so glad you found the ideas helpful x

finally tips that aren't just "do this to look tall/ hourglass/ thin"
fr like i dont want to i just wanna look good in what i wear
1. Details should be be sized down - go for smaller details/prints/patterns/ruffles
2. Avoid undefined neckline and shoulders - go for more fitted tops
3. Avoid long & flowing sillhoettes - seperates suits petite better (if you still want to wear it you could go for something that has some kind of in between break)

5. Avoid heavy fabric without drape
6. Avoid overly angular details if you have softer features

I think oversized voluminous pieces work perfectly when combined with small collars and details. One of my favourite ways to wear oversized 😍

yea, same for me. But because my legs are very long compares to my torax. So I find that long skirt/shorts really make my legs shine xD
SAME!! people always give me a face when i buy tapered pants. but baggy and wide legs looks terrible on me!
so agree on the wide leg pants!!! they're always so wide they make me look as if i have 4 legs 😭
I loooooove this so much because you’re focusing on harmony instead of making us look like something we’re not. 🥰
As a curvy petite/dramatic romantic I find large prints look nice on me if the colors are few or neutral. Small patterns and details look best on me in rich and bold colors, otherwise they age me or drain my look.

I agree. i think body shape also plays a factor
This might be the best petite recommendation video I have ever seen! The examples of different alternative options make it so easy to understand.🙌
Fabrique doesn’t specifically say on its site that it’s natural-fabrics only, but I searched for polyester and acrylic and nothing came up - an excellent sign. I forget to look for nylon and acetate - more NOs for me. Lyocell/rayon/viscose, in good thick, quality versions, are ok for me - it’s the plastics to which I’m allergic.
Acetate is similar to rayon and viscose tho :)

I might have missed it, but what's the really cropped rust colour sweatshirt you're wearing at 13:50? I love that!
This is actual good, different, real advice, thank you so much!
Thanks for the advice I'm 5'1 and def will try!!!
Hi Helen! What's the brand of the blue short sleeve shirt with a collar you are wearing at 1:20? It looks amazing ♥
And Fabrique is such a neat business concept! I learned something new ☺️
Wonderful work Helen!! Your videos are so well thought out, researched and personal. All the tips shared are so helpful❤
Ohhh I really wanted oversized blazers to work on me now I know why it looks so unflattering on me
Great tips! I am short but curvy so a few of those tips would not work on me (like the crewneck shirt, it would make the area above my bust make so long)
For reference, the puffy short sleeve blouse by fabrique is $150
Yikes..
Yeah, I’m all for quality, but most of us can’t and won’t justify purchases like that. A lot of the brands she recommends are up there 😵💫
@@Cloud9crown yeah, I understand it's a lot. :)
Ouch 😵
I love the colorblock tank top
Finally i can wear skirts with confidence, i have been too much afraid of anything except pants and shirts .
What shoes are you wearing in this video? They’re really cute and I couldn’t find them in your summer shoe recommendation video!
Amei todas as bolsas lindas e de muito bom gosto.Parabens *yutulu*😘😘😘
Thank you so much. But can you suggest something for a petite & Curvy Body.!!!!
Really great content today, I loved so many of the outfits you styled! You look wonderful in all the beautiful clothing. Thank you!
thank you so much for the video I'm 162 cm /5'3 and I struggle to find clothes that look on me
I live in Iran (it has mandatory hijab laws), so I have to wear tunics or jackets or coats when I go out (especially in places that dress codes are heavily monitored like the university). It's a nightmare to style it with a petite rectangle body shape. Any helpful advice would be appreciated 😘
loveeee *yutulu* you got a lot of my dream bags
Whats the top at 1:35? I'd buy that in a heartbeat
Great video! Just wondering what shoes (black sandals) you’re wearing, I really like them!
This is amazing! So helpful, and makes so much sense. Thank you 🧡
i really enjoyed this video as someone who's still finding their style! if you don't mind, could uu link where uu got ur tiny pearl necklace? i've been looking for one for months!!
Great tips, things I haven't thought of but make perfect sense. Thanks!
H&M and Zara) but now they raised the prices for Zara kids so I buy from women’s now 😂
Uhhhh I NEEDED this type of advice years ago!! So spot on about which clothes I found more flattering on me as 5ft 🥹 Instantly subscribed
Red looks soooo good on you
Genuinely asking bc I'm confused, what is considered 'petite'?? Is it just the short height or does body shape also matter?
Because 160cm is quite average for women in my country
Anyway, I love your tips!
the dress as 13:12 looks so good on you!! where is it from? i tried looking at the desc bar but couldnt find the link to it. thanks in advance and loving this vid- super helpful tips!
Hi! Is there a link to the long, black floral dress? Great video - thank you!
Great tips. Anyone know where the dress with lace trim is from? at 12:11. I like the look with the white T under. I'm not slim like Helen so not sure how these styles would look on me but I like your recommendations, Helen.
Thank you-I love your videos for petites! Could you please tell us wear you got your sandals? I can’t seem to find ones like those!
They are from bared footwear.
Terrific content Helen. I'm wondering as a fellow petite, how do you find the fit of unisex pieces on a small frame? Eg. Unisex pieces at Uniqlo, Muji etc.
Perhaps I have missed this somewhere but can you share the name/link to the gold heels you wore in the video? Thank you!
I love that you didn’t have new shoes for every outfit. I love to reuse what I have
are there any petite friendly brands that are more affordable? like h&m prices for example
I like your hair cut!🩷🎀🎀 What's that called?
Love those lovely pieces from Fabrique
Thank you for making such videos. Very helpful. I am interested to purchase the Luise Maxi Skirt in Silk Cotton in size S. Can you please share with me the waist, hip and length of the skirt? I would not be able to return it easily if there is a mistake in the size.
LOVE the shoes, where is it from??
160?? Oh my Gosh I am 151!! I'm small 🤏 I am not sure if I can still pull off long skirt!
Does she have a winter version? 😞 people always tell me winter is te best time for fashion because of layering but when I layer I feel like that Kanye roblox costume, so I stick with the clothes I feel comfy on but I might die from coldness
Great tips, will try it but I'm too big at the waist
It’s just sad that I have dark underarms so I can’t follow the advice 😢. The treatment here in ph is too expensive so whenever I ask for dermatologist advice they will only provide their own products and gatekeepong the ingredients it has so I can buy alternatives in drugstore.
I have sensitive skin and I keep scratching it when it get itch. I’m afraid to try applying products that may treat it because of my fear of worsening the itching.
My bad if there’s any grammatical error.
