10” Alva , 166 independents, and Powell bomber wheels. Best slappy setup 20 years ago. Funny how the trick is back in style after how many people talked s$&t on the trick
I don't think I've ever seen a slappy without the xlock. For me I thought that was how they were always done. Kinda always looked cool to me that way. Thanks for doing this experiment. I wouldn't have had the patience to do it. Like others have stated. I think the bigger wheels are better for rolling over things and building speed. Then when they lock the bigger size makes things easier.
I slappy with an 8-8.25"boards and 50-52mm wheels.... maybe rotating your shoulders more backside atleast your back one. That may help get your back truck more on if you dont want that xlock... i agree tho, finally someone else talks about subjectivity of what is right or better.
Hell yeah thanks dude. This slappy stuff is still very new to me. I don't mind the cross lock, but I just wanna be able to control how I do it if that makes sense. And you're advice makes sense
Great video man. When I first set up my slappy board I went with small wheels an was having issues locking in . An was going to move up to 54 mm dragons.
@tino1766 personally I wouldn't. That's a big wheel to me, but I know some people ride like 58mm and skate curbs. Bigger wheels definitely help with locking in
Thank you. I was just given an egg board and wondered why so many people put small wheels on. I was curious what to add. I felt like it made more sense to put bigger wheels on because of the rougher asphalt parking lots. Im more used riding smoother park pavement and wood vert though. I think i will try the 56’s i have lying around.
Basically the smaller wheels make it easier to do combo Slappys. Like noselides to crook or boardslide to feeble. And that kinda thing. For beginners gettin into basic Slappys I think a slightly larger wheel would be best. I've settled on a 52mm
you are lifting your tail slightly on some of them. get your foot off your tail and when you jam into it wait a split second longer to put your weight on the back foot for the back truck to lock full onto the curb. ive been playing around with the same issue
From my experience, it depends what slappies you're doing. FS/BS 5050s, nose grinds, 5-0s, and smiths seem to benefit from wider wheels. Slappy crooks, boardslide to hurricanes, nose slides, and blunts seem to work better with smaller/slimmer wheels
crosslock is way better than going double toeside on slappys. it shows that your weight is perfectly balanced between being on top of the curb and coming back in. you're already doing it pro-style.
Killing those slappys! Nice CKY shirt. Infiltrate Destroy Rebuild is still on heavy rotation for me. Love those guys ( the older stuff with Darren as the singer of course). Great work!
I've had that shirt since high school. its like a time machine every time i put it on! check out some of my more recent videos if you get a minute. gotten a lot better at this slappy stuff. appreciate you checkin the video out dude! cKy!
If you want your back truck fully on the curb on a back 50 try pressing down on your back toes a little bit harder when you slap onto the curb. Works for me. 😊
cool video. Would appreciate it if you could balance the audio better in future ones if possible, the music was much louder than your mic. I'm going to try doing a slappy on my bigger wheels now since i've been having trouble getting up the curb with my tiny worn wheels.
I'm pretty sure alot of the guys who like the smaller wheels for slappys is for combos on the curb. Helps them to move from trick to trick effortlessly
I learned Slappys on 50mm and those always felt best. Now Im on 56mm and i find that sometimes my back truck over shoots and i end up with back wheels all the way on top the curb.
i never bought into the little wheels but i dont care for flip tricks. its 60mm to 56mm for me .we would totally hit it off man. i like all the same stuff
I think most people use small wheels for the hype like "Hurr durr look at muh small wheels" but if I where to use small wheels it would be for the challenge, the challenge of going slow, vibrating to a stop, not locking in, slipping out and trying not to have a bad time.
I have the 48 83b lil wideboys on my eggzilla2 & I think the ONLY real reason they’re great for slappys is the nut coverage. But I have been avoiding anything over 53 mms for years to stay away from wheelbite but this is a very intriguing video I may have to try and slid some 55s soon! Much obliged 🫡
Listen. 1- cky shirt
2- gunS
3- skateboarding
4- fuckin sick 😂🙌
Haha thanks dude. Appreciate it 🙏

The bigger ones definitely felt better to me. Especially the conicals. Idk what the deal with the small wheels is except for grind combo's

@stickersteve007 it was to me too. In our time, you just didn't skate curbs anymore lol. Or atleast be seen 😂... when all else fails, skate curbs.
@@ulpsb I agree

I feel like when you just starting to learn em a little bigger of a wheel might be better
@@stickersteve007 what size would say is to big ? Would you go over 55mm?

Most slappy dudes swear by Spit classics because of the rounded outer
I can definitely see that. For me it was more of an experiment on size. But the conicals felt good for 50's
They're going to love Andy Anderson's new wheels.
@@nathaniel1600 I'm very curious about those

Sweet thanks dude. I'm just gonna put my feet over the bolts and slam into that bitch haha.

that makes perfect sense. i just beginning my slappy journey. Had all these wheels laying around so i thought lets try it
crosslock is way better than going double toeside on slappys. it shows that your weight is perfectly balanced between being on top of the curb and coming back in. you're already doing it pro-style.
well that makes me feel better haha. i just wanna develop the control for both ways so i can trick out easier

I dig 55mm jivarros!! 101a and conical too!
Great test and video, it's no wonder small wheels aren't popular anymore unless you are mostly a tech skater..
Yeah it's hard to deny how much nicer the bigger wheels felt
Maybe the bigger wheels roll over better over things and once they did they’re gonna lock in damn good
That's kinda my theory. That's why I wanted to do this lil experiment
You’re out here doing gods work sir.
Lol I wouldn't go that far
Don't think I didn't notice that Doc Watson snip. Properly played, sir.
hell yeah! a lot of folks don't know Doc
A cky shirt in 2023 is fire!!!
haha its the same one ive had since like 2003
@stickersteve007 bless love to see it :) keep up to A1 content my man.
@Skatepapii appreciate you dude 🙏

That was a tip from the Slappy master Robbie Rodriguez
ruclips.net/video/Lm8cnEPbps8/видео.htmlsi=hEmbo7DxCftovXVf
He explains how to avoid cross lock at 10:10
i can proudly say i no longer cross lock anymore (unless i want too haha)

Noted dude. Appreciate the feedback 🙏. And yeah you got nothing to lose giving it a shot
I have bones x formula 54mm . I suggest you try it; I'm a big lad and I rarely get wheel bit with those on my board.
I love the x formulas! Besides tryin out the nano cubics for a couple weeks I've been skating them all year. 52mm
Ohh yeah? How are they?@@stickersteve007
DEF worth viewing
Imagine that? No one picking up their trash. You gotta pick that shit up. How else are you supposed to get mildly sober before you drive drunk home.
I'm pretty sure alot of the guys who like the smaller wheels for slappys is for combos on the curb. Helps them to move from trick to trick effortlessly
you are a 100% correct. i aint on that level yet haha. i guess i was more intended for slappy 50-50's
@@stickersteve007 yeah man. I'm the same as you.5050 , nose and board slide that's it for me. Slappy crook is next
@nobbytheover30beginnerskat59 that's next on my list as well. Apparently it's easier than 50's

I can see that. I'm on 52mm right now. Might go 54 and see how I like it
I was on 50’s for parks and 52’s for street forever and recently bumped it to 54’s for everything and it seems like the sweet spot for now

@@rustyshackleford4299 thanks dude! bang bang
60mm ratbones dragons I use on my Slappy board
That's a big boy wheel right there
The bigger the wheel the easier to get up on the curb I would imagine.
Seems to be that way. Which makes sense in my head
@@stickersteve007 i imagine you don’t want the wheel on top to be too big though so you have too much of a tilt? I wouldn’t know. Yet.
@RikRiorik yeah there's probably a happy place. I don't think I'd go above 55mm. That's a big wheel to me

Color scheme wise those tiny ones looked sick though, too bad lol
they're fun lil wheel's. I found the sweet spot for me to be about 52mm

Bigger wheels + custom wheel wells = 🙂
Been wanting to try doin some custom wheel wells
i thing you wont notice a difference because you lift ur slappys
I did lift 6 months ago when I started getting into this slappy funness. I have since corrected my technique
Small wheels are never good for slappys at all.

Not if you are curb dancing = tail to crook, front 5-0 pivot to crook...small wheels own here.
Nice neck beard.
I’m not sure you’ve got your definitions straight there friend.

My happy place is 52mm. I think a little bit bigger of wheel helps when you're first learning slappys. Especially 5050s
