ROLLS ROYCE CULLINAN - The best Rolls yet ? [FIRST DRIVE]
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 ноя 2018
- It is fair to say the Rolls Royce Cullinan had a mixed reaction when it was launched a few months ago. I was invited by Rolls Royce Motorcars of Bristol to take a close look and drive Cullinan, so I could make my mind up myself. I thought you would like to come along for the ride.
This is the first four wheel drive Rolls Royce and it's first SUV. For such a large car it has amazing driving performance, dispatching 0-60 mph in just 5 seconds !
See Cullinan for yourself at Rolls Royce Motorcars of Bristol. This is their new demonstrator.

Certainly impressive in many ways but just the kind of car that as a car enthusiast I can appreciate and I am glad that it does exist to satisfy all those that appreciate it and can afford it and as you say enjoy 'looking down' on other people (some people like to feel superior to others in very funny and depressive ways...maybe a tablet here could help more) but also one to which I am completely and totally indifferent.
Best review I've yet seen of the Cullinan, detailed and thorough.
Thanks John :-)
A very very good review Pete, well chosen words delivered perfectly, which is not an easy feat - as for the car, well on screen & in pictures it's not a good looker however i'll reserve judgement until seen in person as you suggest.
Cheers Roger. I appreciate it's not for everyone, no car is, but I reckon it is a grower !
Your favourite feature being the umbrella in the door. You must love the Skoda Superb and the Skoda Kodiaq then 😀
Just magnificent! What a beautiful tour de force!
Simply supreme. Thanks Pete for bringing us a roll royce.
MARVELLOUS , IT'S A TOP NOTCH!👍
Excellent review; detailed and delivered with consumate ease, not a ‘way hay’ as some reviewers say at the drop of a hat. Top Gear awaits you Pete.
Thanks for such kind words...I wish 😜
That was a wonderful film Ped. I really enjoyed it.
Why thank you Sir :-)
It looks better than it shows. We were at its preview in Tokyo, I want one.
This almost takes the car back to the old classic dimensions of the 54 Silver Wraith etc. Those huge chauffeur driven limousines without the long boot overhang.
You deserve way more subscibers, top job as always
Cheers Chris. Hopefully that will come if I just keep doing my thing !
Spectacular video Ped! This is such a polished presentation of the Cullinan. You really sold me on this SUV. I wasn't impressed at first, but I understand it now. I personally wouldn't compare this to the Bentayga. Both are ultra-luxury SUVs, but very different in that regard. As much as I love Audi, I feel there's too much "switchgear" in the Bentayga, to make it special, like the Cullinan. Again buddy, excellent work!
Thank you my friend :-)
Its got double glass at the rear, we’ve His & Hers Bentaygas. We probably will need just one of this.
This is a great video well-done and if I had the money I would definitely buy it
Many thanks :-)
Wow Peter, just wow. Beautiful cars. Last time I travelled in a Rolls was on my wedding day, over 30 years ago and that was lovely. Very professional video too Peter. Cheers, Jon.
Cheers Jon, there is always something special about being in a Rolls Royce :-)
A touch of class Ped you suit a roller mate, great video!
I might suit it, I just wish I could afford it :-)
spectacular!!!!
Fantastic review and video
Cheers Ron :-)
Interesting TV style camera work and editing, great video as always
Just trying some new things. I think it worked OK. Glad you enjoyed it :-)
Great review of Rolls Royce from Petrol Ped which is of one best cars shows in RUclips !!
Thanks Henri, kind of you yo say :-)
Exellent review. I recon if i skip my morning Starbucks coffe for next 200 years I have enough money to buy it,with options.
Start saving 😜
Good vid, good car, good presenting style.
Cheers 👍
There is a plushness and ambiance to a Rolls Royce that will never come across on camera, especially in the back. However some switch-gear is not as well finished as it should be; the door closing buttons for one and if I remember correctly there is another on the dash that could be better. One only has to sit in the wonderful Bentley Continental GT to see the superb finish of the turned aluminium switch-gear. This is what RR could and should be providing.
It never gets old; you open the door its heft as evident as the ease with which it can be opened. And when you press the button on your A-pillar the door closes with the finality of a bank vault’s. It never gets old.
There is something cool about closing the door with a button :-)
What a fantastic video Pete, well done 👍
Cheers Steve 👍
Cracking video plus great use of the drone. Would I have one?? Hmmm like you say need to see one in the metal but, if I had the money......... 😂
Not often I get the chance to pop the drone up :-)
Epic video's ped. For me your the best car you tuber
Thank you 🙏
Enjoyed the Video
Cheers 👍
Enjoyed the Video thanks well produced and if i had the funds I would consider this along with its rivals.
Thanks Billy, glad you enjoyed it :-)
Car looks amazing in the metal, needs the individual rear seats though
Peter i thought you were going to go in that muddy field ,that would have been a good test😄
I can’t see Alan, Lord Sugar changing his for one. It’s a nice vehicle though for sure. The illuminated lady is a lush touch.
Just soothing!
Hi Ped
Another good review. Not sure about the look but cannot escape the superb quality of this car. Would you be pushing your luck if you loaned the car again to go to your holiday pad in Cornwall, you could find a really good mix of roads on that trip! Not sure how it would cope with Mevagisey.
Not sure I'd want to take it through Mevagissey...that would be a tad tight !!
Great video Pete, I really wanted to hate this car when it was initially discussed and the spy shots hit the web, but oh my god, what a wonderful piece of engineering, thanks for another great video, and for proving most of us doubters wrong!
My pleasure Paul :-)
Excellent review Pete well done
Having seen a few Cullinans on the road I have to say the looks are still” challenging “ to my eyes at least 🤓
And mine...but each time I see one that gets better. There is no denying thought that this car is simply stunning to drive :-)
Petrol Ped It should be considering there history. However after a trans Euro journey in one would you step out of it look at it and think “ Wow. You are beautiful “ ? 🤓
What is the mpg or should I say gpm?
The book you are looking through at the beginning of the video, what did it cover? I collect Rolls-Royce memorabilia and bought a lot of these showroom books and Ebay
Sorry Ron. Can’t remember as I wasn’t really looking through it 😜
@@PetrolPed just a prop I guess? Lol. I would think it was a book showing the highlights of the previous year's bespoke cars. I have bought similar books on EBay. I bought a Cullinan 100 page book brochure on EBay this week for £40
My god the suspension would have kittens filming the roads round here in rural Lincolnshire!!
I like the look of her..the chunky grill and bonnet suits the 'stance' of the SUV better than the saloons actually. Nice video as always Pete, thanks mate.
My pleasure :-)
Love it
A pretty special car that's for sure 👍
The Best of the "Best car in the World"!
Getting more polished all the time. And really enjoy your own personality I. These too
Thank you :-)
Petrol Ped erm.. sincerely meant that but not that I want to hold hands on the beach or pick out curtains! Lol.
Would love to do what you do. Think I’d enjoy even the early stages.. ta man
Just get yourself a cheap camera and give it a go. That what I did :-)
Petrol Ped :-) cheers. All the best
John
Hello pal. I dare bet ya seeing a few of them at your current location whilst I’m sat here watching lol? I’d love to look around a Rolls Royce dealership, but will wait till we have a better car to pull up outside lol.
Evening Buddy :-)
Hi Peter, another excellently delivered video, but honestly I thought it sounded rather noisy, especially on the motorway. It really didn't 'stir my loins' at all.
My camera mics pic up everything. Glad you enjoyed the video 👍
very nice video
Thank you :-)
Wow. Ill have two!
One for me and one for you ?!
I could have spent all day in that RR sales room, just slumped on the floor, drooling and with a silly grin on my face. I'd be draped in all that fine and gorgeous smelling leather that they have as samples. They would have to drag me out. But as the floor looks cleaner than my dining table, that wouldn't have been much of a problem for me. I drag well... :-))...
850Nm of torque!! Jeepers. Considering the weight of the Cullinan, if you parked your car facing West and accelerated quickly, the World would, for a split second, actually stop spinning.
And I don't think I've ever seen 22" wheels, that looked... Err...!!?? A bit small, on a car before. They should have gone for at least 24" wheels :-))
As for how quiet a Roller is, I can recall when I was about 17 years old (Mid '70's for those who can remember!), I was walking along the Broadway in Haywards Heath when an elderly chap got into his Roller. I heard him start the car, then I laughed, thinking, "What a prat. He's stalled it!" To my utter shock, the Roller just pulled away. I just couldn't hear the engine.
Funny to think that RR are using tech from the Mercedes Benz S class with regard to monitoring the road ahead.
And @14:13 to 14:50 into the video. Isn't that one of Bristol's infamous Dogging Hotspots? And you're there in a Roller...!!?? Tut! Tut! Like your style though mate :-))...
Great video Pete. But no 0-60 test!!?? :-((...
Thankfully do dogging and that car was just too new to give it the Yahoo !!
Petrol Ped I think that should say don’t do dogging, unless you have not mentioned something 😂😂 it maybe it’s a new series can you go dogging in a .....
@@DamoDrives - Your comment actually made me laugh out loud.
It now makes me wonder what the best dogging car is? An SUV? Hatchback? Estate? Convertible?
And where are the best places to go to too?? I heard Mevagissey is a good place to... Ooops!! :-\.. I forgot PP's just got his new penthouse down there :-))...
EDIT - This'll get me banned from Pete's comment section :-(...
Nice video Pete, good delivery. Is the drone new or have I just never noticed it before?
As for the car, not for me but would be nice to see how it compares to a Bentayga because I think the Bentley is better looking. Not that I'm in a position to buy a £200k + car, but I don't think it would be this.
I’ve had a drone for quite a while. It’s just not that often that I get a chance to get it in the air for a review.
I’ve driven both and for me the Cullinan is a better drive 👍
Omg, a button to close the damn door! 😯😯
Yep :-)
It certainly does look like a rather pleasant place to be from an interior point of view, i'm still not sold on the exterior though
I feel that way too :-)
if spec up right i can see this as a baller daily driver
Oh yes 👍
Rolls Royce obviously delivers, as they are expected to. But with the price tag, and the kind of motor vehicle taxes that we have here in Norway, I'm afraid it will remain an unattainable dream, also for me. So I will stick with my old VW Golf :-)
Wow Peter, great work. That electric ramp on the boot. Who does that?? Only Rolls Royce 😊
A great feature. Just like the umbrella in the door !
@@PetrolPed Great,Yes! However I can't imagine many Ikea flat packs going in any Rolls.😂
Good show man
Cheers Bobby :-)
Peter, now that was a Rolls Royce presentation - but in casual gear - love it. Was that in your track day gear.
Why didn't they let you take it over to Castle Combe ,only 1/2 hour down the road. Missed opportunity me thinks.
Sadly I'm not sure they's let me track it :-)
@@PetrolPed Peter,
Off -Road, track experience M4 cruising all within an hour - now there is a review.
Fashion statement - in - Hunting, Shooting & Fishing Gear, Suited and booted and Track over suit ,now there is a flexible life image review. You're the right person too do it.
Forgot Ped, racing bike and gear in the back.
Luxury as standard..... RR = perfection
Yep :-)
I can see Kate letting me take this to a gravel quarry lmao!
I'm writing from turkey and I thank you video your CTR does not understand your language, I was so guys if I had the chance of learning the price of this car do you have any
Hello Turkey !
This car is £300,000 (EUR 338,000)
thank you oil pad
nice
Good friends at Rolls Royce Motorcars of Bristol I should say so, indeed I would say Dear Friends. VERY VERY NICE VID.
Thanks Daniel. Sadly Rolls Royce Bristol no longer exists 😥
Damn it all sorry to hear that, unless I were to win the lotto I'll never be in the market for a Rolls Royce. However I'll be checking out more off your vids so thank you and my thought are with the good folk formally of Rolls Royce Bristol.
My favourite
Personally I think it’s absolutely gorgeous
In my old man mode (59), I do like it, but in real world mode - I'll have to stick with the Hi-Lux a little longer. It's only 14 years old after all :)
Save yourself some serious cash too 😂
Is it a BMW derived platform?
No it is not.
Get it muddy!
I'd love to !
I see the Sultan o/ Brunei had a lot to do with this design. He has an estate Bentley I believe that looks like it. Only Queste original readers would know what I am talking about and Rolls Royce a/icianadoes.
There was way to much noise in the car which suggests that the sky roof was open,I hope so.Listening inside the 2018 Phantom was almost silent, you couldn't even hear the clock motor.
It was mega quite...its just pick up from my mics 👍
@@PetrolPed OK! Thanks.
Le crochet d'attelage pour aller à la déchetterie le samedi , bien vue.
Ou vous pourriez mettre les ordures dans la voiture !
The back end just looks like a big hump, but nice SUV, and if I had the money to buy one I'd still go for a top of the range with all the extras, Range Rover Autobiography, for the two fold away tables in the read are so cool.
Range Rover and £200k in the pocket sounds good :-)
@@PetrolPed £200K change in my pocket, GREAT I can now also buy a Discovery Sports with all the bells and whistles
There only two Rolls Royce that I'd ever buy, first a Silver Seraph 2000 model and second a 1954 Silver Ghost with the Chinese eyes, they look so great, the Rolls Royce Cullinan looks good and very comfortable, but you would never drive it up Ben Nevis or through Kielder Forest now would you, A Cullinan owner buys it to make his friend think he's off road drive, The only step up from the Range Rover Autobiography I would make would be for the Bentley Bentayga, for Bentley always have the engine that makes you go like shit off a shovel, Merry Christmas Ho Ho Ho
My correction on reading my last message I meant a 1964 Silver Ghost I was 9 years ahead of my time there, I should get a Delorean
Rolls.... 😘
Not quite a Raleigh Burner Pete but I guess it'll do hehe :p
Oh...that Burner !!!!
And I'm thinking of getting rid of my Mini Cooper S Pete. Should I go for;
BMW 3 or 4 series. 335d or 330d with or without XDrive.
Or
Golf R from 2015
I need a car with an auto box (I'm fed up with driving a manual as been doing so for the last 40 odd years!) and I want a sub(ish!) 6 seconds 0-60. I really miss my old 330d coupé and the performance it gave me but had to get rid of it due to having cataracts in BOTH eyes!! Now all fully repaired and I don't even wear glasses! Bonus! :-)
Bearing in mind my budget is about £15k with p/ex.
EDIT - Oh! I'm definitely NOT getting a RR Cullinan. They look horrible though I'm sure the interior is quite stunning!!
I've driven the 435d X-Drive and it was Brilliant. I'd always go for X-Drive with BMW, at least then you can also drive it when it rains !!
Golf R also very good. I just find their styling a bit bland :-(
You might enjoy my video about car financing that I am currently planning around the purchase of my new car :-)
@@PetrolPed - You hit the nail on the head about the Golf being a tad "bland", interior wise. Though the Mk7 looks good from the outside especially in blue.
But the 435d XDrive goes like stink. A sub 5 seconds to 60 is perilously close to the M4 too. And the 430d/330d are no slouch's either.
As for driving my old 330d when it was raining, I had no problems whatsoever. Most of the time it went in a "sort of" straight line. It even went straight when you wanted it go go round a bend :-))
The Zanzibarbarian 2 year old 335D xD Touring and you have a stunning, fast, economical and practical car. Sorted :) oh and they map to 370hp+ and 550lbs/ft very easily.
@@stubones - Cripes!! 370+bhp with 550ft/lbs too!!?? Sounds scary.... Sounds bloody fun too :-))...
Thanks for that. I know that tuning cars does have an advantage of better performance but with better fuel economy too. Bonus all around me thinks!! :-))
The Zanzibarbarian yup just got to be sensible :) the 335D xd is probably quick enough for most people without any tuning. A few owners have also claimed around 60mpg on a long run in eco pro mode which incredible, if true.
Interesting to see how it compares with the Bently Bentayga Mr Ped, which is half the price?
The Bentayga didn't do it for me, I have an SQ7. This car is in a different league :-)
@@PetrolPed A different league and a huge difference in price. How come we have not seen the SQ7?
Congrats on the holiday home!! I live in Bideford, North Devon so not so far away now. My Wife loves Petrol Pooch, as do I and we would love to meet up sometime? Either you pop in on your way down or we could pop down for a coffee if you wanted to of course and no offence if you would rather not.
Very true. I did the SQ7 a couple of years ago. Here is the link..

Thanks re the holiday home. We are very excited and hope to bring more content with it in. I'd love to meet you one day too :-)
Very few important specs were given, ie what is the HP or Nm
Sorry I didn't include all the info you were after. Although you can Google the HP and Torque and this review was more about the experience and feel of driving such a high end car...you can't Google that 😜
Bloody hell!
Homie never goes to 'Berwick Lodge for lunch'.. AHAHHA had to quick flex on em ha8derrzz I C U BOOIII
Defo roomy. More than I thought.
Did you get it muddy
It more than likely cleaned itself😉
Great video i just have one criticism! When you testing cars like this pls test them not on a A roads and motorways but in normal city roads with all the potholes and bumps! Everyone was talking about how comfortable the s class Is until i drove it in normal London roads and trust me I wasn’t impressed at all!
In the time I had with the car I had a limited route we could take. Thanks for the feedback :-)
❤🚘❤🚘❤🚘❤
So much for taking it off road..
Great vid but the Range Rover Autobiography still tops my list.
Me too and you get to keep best part of £200,000 in change ;-)
Hope you topped up the tank, as you only have a quarter left.
Left Rolls Royce to do that ;-)
maybe the camera angles but that car looks massive. Better than the Bentley ?
No, it's not as big as it looks :-)
Bentley is a cheap rebadging of VW, and no, it's not even better than that. Look at the trunk fit and finish? Were they joking? WHERE IS THE CARPET?
My future love car...🥰💚💖🧡💝💘🙏☘🌻🌹🎐🎐🎐
I'm impressed. Very impressed.
Cheers Winston :-)

A lottery win is needed.
Can’t believe you didn’t bring it round for a cuppa. None taken!
Sorry Turves. I didn't feel bad not popping in but I was on a pretty tight timeline :-(
Petrol Ped was probably on the bike anyway, mate.
Great Video Pete looks a bit like you know what your doing.
The car is a roller and stupidly expensive for me the money would be better spent on a house as it would go up in value and not free fall like the Cullinan will
Only a bit like I know what I'm doing ;-)
@@PetrolPed Didnt want to make you to comfortable now did I?
The owners of this vehicle have more mansions yachts than needed.
*This Rolls Royce comes with it's very own Range Rover... to pull it out of muddy tracks and ditches*
Since Rolls-Royce can customize to such a degree, I wonder if they'd create a miniature bust of the owner's head instead of the Spirit of Ecstasy?!
The only thing they will not customise or touch is the SOE 😬

I think the Cullinan looks nice. Guess I’m in the minority lmao.
Maybe...but I like it too !
The interior is 1st class but the exterior looks like a hurst mate 😆
Harsh ;-)
Petrol Ped Maybe a little Pete 😉
