“Musical Applications” is the reason your channel is so unique in the RUclips Modular family and why I love your channel so much. I listened to a ton of your live performances yesterday and loved it, I can’t say that for 99% of the modular channels out there. More music, less noise
I’ve taken a 2 month break from my system. Frankly…overwhelmed. Uninspired. I’ve come up with a lot of net stuff, but it’s been kind of random. I have Beads. One of my last modules I bought and had such high hopes for. So far haven’t bonded with it. Your twiddling around with it is inspiring. Working up steam to jump back in. Big thanks for the vid.
Cheers for the comment man. I also had high hopes for beads and was pretty disappointed when I first got it. A few months later and I’m starting to warm to it. Jump back in and have some fun ☺️
Now you’ve made me want a Beads. And maybe a Data Bender. The problem with that is I don’t have space for either one in my current case which means I need another case. I was doing so well not needing another case until now.
Such a great demo! I finally have a Beads on it's way to me arriving this weekend... don't know what's taken me so long to get one; me being such a huge fan of Clouds and Mutable Instruments in general. This video is getting me extra excited for it!
Thank you so much for making these videos. Such a musical dive into this amazing module. Not that I don’t like videos with more focus on features and explanations of all aspects of a module but your content is refreshingly different and highly informative from a songwriting/production standpoint for me. That being said your introduction into beads in the beginning of this video is the most comprehensive I’ve seen yet. And then lovely tunes to boot, brilliant 👏👏
Beads into Data Bender, or vice versa? J/k, kinda. I found yr channel the other day. Really dig the relaxed vibe and the sense of spontaneity (as somebody remarked, it feels inclusive, like we're along for the ride) ----not to mention the tunes, explanations, etc. You seem genuinely stoked on this stuff, and with a somewhat minimal setup. It's great. Good vibes, good humor (+ thick, lively choons) .. Cheers
„Once you get your Head around it“ - unfortunately I sold it shortly before your Video came out, because I could‘nt. 🤷🏻♂️ Whish I had a demo like yours earlier. Great content! 👍
Great content and some cool musical examples, thank you 🙂 I'm going to have to dig back into Beads, it got kicked out for a databender, but I can see how creative it can be. Thanks for the inspiration 👍
Ordered a Beads just last week so this couldn't have been better timed. Feel like my head was already swimming in thoughts of how to use it in interesting ways and now event moreso.
@@TheUnperson Love it! I've just scratched the surface of it, like using the internally stored buffers or patching it with Rings, but there's sooo much more to explore.
Heya! I was just wondering what are the op-1 sounds you're using and if you've got any favorite patches to recommend that work nicely with beads? Thanks!
@@TheUnperson thanks so much for replying! Yeah, right after I posted this I went through a bunch of your replies and noticed that was your answer, sorry for making you repeat yourself! I'm going to get your sample pack which I'm sure is full of great sounds!! Thanks! Oh btw, in another video (I think the new data bender firmware) you mentioned a sound named "Helios" if I'm not mistaken, you said it was one of your favorites though I wasn't able to find it anywhere.. any info on that would be much appreciated!
The Helios sound is a sound I made for a track called Welcome to Helios City ~ it’s up on Spotify and part of a compilation album of Scottish artists :)
Great video man! Yeah I love my beads. I’m all about sound design so as you can imagine I’m constantly getting lost in that module! I’ve never used the wave tables with a key board like that. Gonna try right now!
Hey man, another great video! And perfectly timed! I don't know if you remember but I am still planning to start my first eurorack system and asked about Data Bender! Now I am more confused than ever because I read on reddit that basically Beads can do everything Data Bender can do apart from the bit crushing... And now I wondered what is your experience? Of course they are different but what I seek in my first module is some beat repeat and glitchiness... and then afterwards I wanted to look into granular so Beads sounds like a better full package... Do you think a similar glitchiness like Data Bender can be achieved? With less randomness and more control? I feel super lost with the decision for my first module, everything seems great ^^ Cheers, thank you and keep it up with the great content!
Personally I would go with Data Bender. It is instantly fun and inspiring. Beads is not an easy module to use - I had it for about 4 months before I felt ready to make a video about it lol. If you are after beat repeats and glitchiness then Data Bender wins hands down.
Unperson how come one cannot comment under your songs? I was vibing to "house" and thought "let's help this local musician, leave a like and all that " but I couldn't. your listeners don't count? smh
Ohh I didn't even realise I had those songs uploaded on youtube! I just checked and it was uploaded by DistroKid - must have been done automatically when they upload to spotify, etc. Of course my listeners count :D
I’m about to give up on Beads. Never got on with it really. Just feel like I’m constantly wrestling with it to get something decent happening. I rarely seem to get the kinds of beautiful results I hear in demo videos like this one.
It is a tough module to be honest. For the first few months I realllly didn't like it. I think the best thing to do is keep it very simple at first. Clock the seed input and play a simple sequence through it with the pitch all the way up. It's one of those modules that really needs to be dialled in and that can take some time. It's definitely not easy to get along with!

Cheers man! And I know what you mean... there really is a lot of noise out there in modular land!
Noise is part of the musical spectrum ~ from dissonance to consonance, no worries about that.
Your enthusiasm is so infective! I think your videos on Beads are the best on youtube. I return to them often.

You could always switch modules in and out!
@@planetplex huh! Good thinking. I do have a 960 Sequencer taking up quite a bit of space…
Look man, it's gonna happen sooner or later lol

Thanks you for the lovely comment! I do try to make my vids as musical as possible so it means a lot when I get comments acknowledging this :D
I’m at the 4 minute mark realizing if I keep watching this video it’ll cost me $350
My sincerest apologies :D
I love how musical your videos are! Keep it up!
I really want to know what does the original sample sounds like send from the Pico at 00:00 !
Think you’ve convinced me to keep my OP-1 and noodle me beads as you have, thank you young fella
Op1 and beads is a great combo for sure!! ☺️
So sad that they stopped producing modules but I’m happy I got into module at just the right time for my local modular store has beads for retail
I agree it' a big loss for the modular world - a lot of my favourite modules are mutable instruments ones!
found ur channel today, listening while I cleanup...
fun stuff

Thank you for the lovely comment! I definitely enjoy working with a smaller setup and really getting to know all the modules :)
Your beads videos have made me want to get one. Finally bit the bullet and ordered one today, can't wait to get lost in granular madness!
Nice one! How you getting on with it??
@@TheUnperson It's been great. So many cool possibilities. Thanks for convincing me to get one!

Beads may be like an ex-girlfriend. Sure you miss it now, but if you get it again you'll soon remember all the things you don't like about it :)

So question if you're just playing frozen audio with nothing patched in, does the dry wet knob become a VCA?
This is a great video man, very inspiring. I never use the freeze button, it seems like I'm missing something.
Great demonstration.
I’ve had a hard time really connecting with mine.
Yeaa me too. I was considering selling it but I knew there was untapped potential in there.
Watching it for the 4th time now. 😅
Heya! I was just wondering what are the op-1 sounds you're using and if you've got any favorite patches to recommend that work nicely with beads? Thanks!
I pretty much only use samples on the op1. I make drum kits in Ableton, and sample synths/make my own sounds :)

hahah I love your enthusiasm. Whoa man! Great shit.
Cheeers! :D
That outro jam.... Yummy!
Good demo. Haven’t bonded with it yet. This helps a lot! What is the interface you use to boost op-1 to modular levels/
He uses the Pico Input in this video
Yep, it's the pico input. A good module if you don't mind uneven HP lol

The amount of hours I've lost to sound design.... i really need to start actually finishing track again
Love your videos! How are your clocking the SP404?
Cheers man. I've got it set to the same BPM as the OP1 and Pam's and I'm just hitting it in time :)
