    Ok, a couple of hints.
    Firstly, because a matter device can connect to multiple controllers, there are two codes. The matter code on the device connects to your FIRST controller, then to connect to a second controller you get the first controller to generate a new pairing code.
    Secondly, if you need to update an echo device without a screen, you can simply ask "Alexa, are you up to date?". This will force an update without waiting.

    Thanks for jumping into the Matter pool and letting us watch! I'm looking forward to Matter maturing. As an Apple HomeKit person who wants my setup to be as simple and bug free as possible, I may want to hold off on buying smart home devices that are Matter ready but not native to HomeKit.

    Steve, you showed that the bulb was connected but never showed if Alexa could control it? Your experimentation with Matter is spot on as I’m guessing lots of us automakers are waiting to see how & if it works. I’d love to see if you get it going & then see how it integrates with SmartThings! Thanks for your continued efforts in getting this new protocol working!

    Spent nearly 2 hours trying to get a smart plug to connect to my girlfriend's 4th Gen Echo, that was initially set up on my SmartThings Station. Turns out, the Echo just needed the good ol' "have you tried turning it off and on again"....
    What a headache that was 🤦‍♂

    Hi, i recently bought an echo show 15 2nd gen. Unfortunately, when i got nearly to the end of setup it downloaded an update, that rendered the device unusable.
    It wouldnt res, wouldnt do anything.
    Dispite saying in setup, the device was registered to me, it wasnt.
    I spent over 2 hours on the phone to amazon trying to return the device. And have the cost of it credited to my account.after 2 weeks i got the refund.
    I am in the uk. Just wundering uf you have heard of this issue. Thanks

    Hello Steve, I can see where the confusion might lie with the strip, the bulb, and the Echo 4. First off, it’s important to understand that all Matter-compatible ecosystems need a Matter Controller, which is sort of like the ‘organiser’ for your Matter devices. The Echo 4 is a Matter Controller, as are almost all recent Echo devices now. Your Echo 4 also has a Thread Border Router built-in, which is only for Thread-based devices, like the Nanoleaf bulb, which is a Matter over Thread device. The Govee strip is a Matter over WiFi device, so whilst it needs to connect to a Matter controller to be told what to do, it doesn’t require the Thread border router, as it just connects to WiFi. I hope that makes sense.
    Finally, only devices that are Matter compatible will be part of the Matter environment you set up, so whilst they’ll all be in the same app working with Alexa, the legacy devices you have already set up, will not be part of that Matter ‘club’, and honestly may never be, with a few exceptions. If you have any Hue products, these will currently be working with your Alexa setup because your Hue account and Alexa are registered with each other. When Hue release the Matter update for your Hue Bridge (if you have one), you would then remove your hub and devices from Alexa, re-add the bridge as a Matter-compatible device, and from there, any devices connected to that bridge will be exposed to your Matter ecosystem. This also means that you no longer need your Hue account to be tied to Alexa, which is essentially cutting out that ‘cloud’ part we all want. Unfortunately, Alexa doesn’t support Matter Bridge devices just yet, but you get the idea!

    I’m also spending time like you.
    There is a bug in Alexa.
    It can only detect the first endpoint of a Matter device that has multiple endpoints.
    For example, if a wall-mounted switch contains three switches, Alexa only adds the first switch.

  • @bigdaddychud

    Is it an IOS issue or an Amazon issue? With this new setup does that mean you dont need separate apps to control all the features? You could voice command "Alexa, turn living room to music mode" and the lights would go to that mode? You could mix and match manufacturers as long as they are Matter enabled?

  • @MusicMonkey5555
    @MusicMonkey5555 Год назад

    Keep in mind matter is just a standard so each company that makes an app or border router may or may not implement things differently. I know from watching others I think Eero showed more details about the thread network. Things like how the mesh network was connecting to each other, what was a border router vs leader vs router. I want to say it was on smart tech today, but I can't remember.

    I think it's just a MATTER of time until they iron out the kinks but this is Amazon after all. I also think this is a slight user error. As a few have mentioned below, you scan the QR on the product instead of the paper. I also like to turn on the device I want paired a few seconds before I ask my assistent to start scanning for it.

  • @enriquelinares9218
    @enriquelinares9218 Год назад

    Hi man, I think you r misunderstanding what matter is. Matter is a standard communication lenguaje for smart homes. What this means is that if something connects via matters it will work in all big smart home standards. HomeKit, Alexa, google etc. products that communicate via Matter can communicate with each other in different ways. Such as wifi, thread, etc. when you say if a product run in the cloud or locally it has nothing to do with wifi. I have multiple devices that use wifi as their way of communicating and as long as my wifi is on, even I my internet is down the products still works, the question there is if the product has a hub that tells it what to do locally or if I need to Connect for a server.

      @mikeguest6307 Год назад +1

      Yeah, in fact Amazon still miss on a number of devices. Last I heard they only support lights, sockets and switches (I think)
      It seems to have come as a suprise to some companies that they needed to support bridges as a device and many are still playing catch-up on this (including Samsung, I think)

    • @SteveLoughran
      @SteveLoughran 11 месяцев назад

      i'd recommend doing the usual zigbee light process: note the MAC address of each device and write a number on it with a sharpie. really helps debugging what is up. but as usual: nobody would "consumer grade" smart home tech provides any logs, debugging tools etc. I'm waiting for Home Assistant on a raspberry Pi to support threads+matter; no point suffering until then.

    Need Matter 2.0 to support video doorbells and cameras via local control so they work even when the cloud or internet is down and have low latency. This isn't ready for prime time and looks like you have to get all new devices, there won't be firmware updates for existing devices as promised, much like trying to add wifi 6e to a 6 router, not gonna happen you just have to get a new router. Local control will also allow for better privacy.
