My favorite part of this is that the man actually took into account people's alexa devices and lowered his volume on speaking them so he doesn't activate them.

Yep. Although, I actually hit the mute microphone button on my echo before I start any Alexa related video anyway.
I agree! When I talk about my Alexa to my son, I set up my different name to call her. Just so he knows I'm talking about Alexa without waking her up.
Omg thank you…. I put a dot in my mom’s assisted living apartment. It has helped me communicate with her as she can not remember how to use a phone. Now I see I can really expand on what I’m doing with this. Happy New Year!
I think the Alexa 10 would be really good for you and your mom! It has a big screen that actually moves to the person and follows them (uses electric motor), you can also move it where you want to see via app. So basically you can check on her to make sure she is OK and then can video call if you wanted as well. I very highly doubt she would care about the speakers- but you would (I'm sure) like the speaker quality for listening to music. You can also play movies etc. Via apps like Netflix/RUclips for your mom from your alexa app (she wouldn't have to touch or do anything with it besides watch). When I read your comment I started to get teary-eyed-I assume she has dementia... such a hard thing to deal with and I'm sorry to hear that. I dread the day my parents get that age. Thank you for making this! I admit I was feeling confident I was at least aware of all feature if not actually using them. But I never heard of talk speed change, that’s going to be great for me, I feel like I get impatient when Echo talks for mor than 5 seconds. Going to start with level 2 speed increase.

Great video. I love that I could use the echo 5 as a basic security camera. Great for monitoring my dog when I have to leave him home alone.

It's a shame so many of these features are not available to me here in Canada. I bought into this ecosystem specifically for the security cam live view and Alexa Guard. They don't work.

Hey Steve, How far from my router (in feet) does the sidewalk feature extend? I live a fairly rural area, extremely long driveway, nearest neighbor's house is about 680 feet away. Do I have to worry about my network being shared?

I didn’t know about the camera, thanks!. I set it up on my show 5. I did know that I could view my Wyze camera on my show 5.
Useful, except those options that are STILL not available in the UK. Why does it take so very long for other countries to get the same services.
I didn’t like hunches at first but now that the system knows my routine, they work well. Nice if I fall asleep w/ lights on and having Echo turn them off.
Would be great if it knew that I'd fallen asleep with my phone in my hand and made a purchase by accident 🤣🤣🤣

I don't think the whisper function is creepy. It's actually very useful at night but I understand how it may seem creepy. :)

Is there any way for family members (i.e teenage) to use the Alexa app with their own Amazon account to manage the alarms on their Echo? .. but their echo can still participate in the house?

I have an Echo 10, I think
I plugged it in but the screen only displays echo. No response. What do I do to boot it up. I only have the plug attached. On the back are two ports for lock and network. Do I need another cord. I am at a loss
Is there a way to set a reminder to go off at the top of each hour during the day without having to set individual timers for each hour? I just had surgery and need to move each hour.
The Alexa app has a feature called Drop In, which is kind of like the Home Monitoring feature you were talking about.

Hmmm...you just gave me a troubleshooting idea. Miss Alexa has been kind of confused for awhile now. The most disturbing thing are the lights flashing off and on at the same time every night. I forgot that Guard will do that. It is shut off when I get home - you know if it isn't. There are no routines or IFTTT set up. Something has probably gone haywire. My basement is super creepy at night (100+ year old house) and with the flashing lights, it's like an amusement park haunted house. All the Dots are getting a factory reset tonight. Hopefully that fixes it. If not, time to call support. Thanks. You actually helped me figure it out.
Can I route the sound from Alexa through my home theatre speakers? If so, what connection devices do I need . . . other directions?

Hm. I have an Echo SHow 5, and have enabled the camera on the Echo Show as instructed, however in my app, for the Echo Show I only have Volume, Drop in and Off...There is no Camera option.

The 4th gen Echo also has motion detection, it’s not just the smaller Echo Dot.
Any tips for setting up voice profiles for two people with similar voices? Our Alexa cannot distinguish between my husband’s and my voice. We never know who actually put something on the shopping list, for example.
hi both my friend and my mom have an echo, if my friend is home and i drop in on him its fine but if he is at my moms and i drop in his device it goes through to my moms echo instead, i assume this is because he has his phone with him and its dropping in on the nearest registered alexa to him, can i prevent the rediect or is it normal
Hiya, hope you can answer this, I have 3 Alexa’s my wife has 2. We will put the echo studio in the living room and I want us both to be able to play our OWN playlists on that device. Lots of info on the web that hasn’t yet worked. My understanding is that I have 2 accounts linked (hers and mine) but this doesn’t work …as after I have added her account onto mine when I ask my echo to “switch accounts” it tells me that there isn’t another ! Is this the correct way to do this ? Remembering that my wife will of course sign out of my account on her phone as she will want to be in her account for her own echo’s.

I followed your instructions to setup the view camera option however I received this error when trying to view my echo show: Live view isn't available now. Please try again later. Is it possiblely a geo restriction or is the service just down?
Mine is saying the same thing. So I suppose it doesn't work on all the echo shows!

Great question. It looks like you can track other packages from certain companies that have an Alexa skill. For example, use the UPS skill to track their packages.
I have two Alexa's one of which answers questions etc. normally but when giving a reminder talks very quietly. the other is OK anyone know why it is quiet (reminders only)

I’ve had a Dot for the last three months and I’m considering switching it off.
Perfectly useless for the the things that really matter in life.
Couldn’t care less for 99% of the ‘services’ it offers.
You need it to be able to call an ambulance if you fall. You need it to connect to a mobile or landline if you have an emergency of some kind and can’t reach a phone.
It is handy having it connected to a phone... I can phone using mine without having my phone nearby. If I fell in the bathroom, I just would say "Computer, call Ambulance'... (depends what you have listed it under)
Why can't you connect it to your phone?
If you have Guard Plus you can say Alexa call for help and police will come to your house.
My Dot starts playing a podcast every day at the same time and I did not ask it to play it ever So how do I get it to stop playing it?

My device has stopped offering me stories. When I say"Alexa, tell me a story" it used to say "I can tell you a strory or you can hear a free short story from Audible. You can say your story or Audible story".
It doesn't say that anymore and just goes into Audible. Seemingly I've said Audible story 3 times in a row!

I'd set up that nothing gets recorded and saved. I clicked to see and everything was being recorded and saved, and it still showed save nothing. The not intended recordings are interesting I wish it told me what it recorded and saved. The together thing seems great for when my Dad gets older or like when he broke 5 ribs and his clavicle biking. I could have dropped in or at least known he was ok. He sucks at remembering his phone so I wouldn't know if he was alright until I got home to him after work. So that would be cool to use down the road.

The Echo Show 5 is worthless as a security cam, as it's design causes the camera to point upward too much, making only the ceiling and upper portion of close-by doorways visible.
There are adjustable stands available. Check on eBay and Amazon. Just thought I'd let you know, it may help resolve the issue, and definitely cheaper than another camera.
Regarding Amazon Sidewalk, if I disable Community Finding does that stop neighbor's from using my bandwidth?
This is only for those low-power, low-bandwdth devices like the Tile tags you put on things you dont want to lose. If someone steals your bike, for example, the tag will communicate with Alexa devices that have this feature enabled and send you a notice that your bike was within wifi range of this Alexa device at a specific time. That takes very little bandwidth and is only used in the rare event such a tag was within range. Your neighbors aren't "using your bandwidth".
what really annoys me is whenever you wake an echo show device (or spot) there is no way to turn the display back off without having another non screen echo unit nearby so now if for example i've lit up my show 5 next to my pc and ask it to show the kitchen camera (which is directed to just show the lights in case someone forgot to turn them off) occasionally it just hears "kitchen" and wakes up the show 8 to show its camera feed, then of course when i cancel that it leaves the show 8 display on (using more power) so i have to drop in on the echo dot in the same room just to issue the command "echo, display off", pity it doesn't have the option to auto turn off the display when the unit is idle.
i wont even comment on our transsexual alexa units (in the uk), we have no male wake word to go with the male voice so it's like talking to that "lia" (the trans swimmer).
Adding info that the ultra sonic sensor is very sensitive for pets!! It's an irritant for them.
Please do an update on this video with Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen, 2021 release). And please do it with out using a smartphone. P.S. this video was very helpful.

The whole concept of 'smart assistance' being in the hands of enormous companies is terrifying.
Perhaps these gizmos are for very lonely people who have zero self respect.
Feature #1 Correction: You actually CAN save the video from your Echo live view camera...........Both IOS and Android phones allow you to RECORD your screen. example IOS, from top right corner swipe towards bottom left corner.....(1 time setup, must have screen recording selected, just goto: settings -> control center -> select screen recording).
I had to change the wake up…we have three devices and they kept hearing us from other rooms.
Does anyone know how to make the Echo sleep at night? The light bothers me.
You can ask to change the wake word and voice . No need to go to the settings.
there is no camera option to pick on the top of Alexa. I select the device and have already set up the camera

I am new to the Alexa/Echo. I am older than the average user. I want to delete the Reuters News that scrolls across my screen first thing in the morning. I feel at times not enough people are spying on me,is there any way i can expand ny list of unknown agancies that want to look into every aspect of my life?,my phone was a bit hit and miss as i could go for a shower and leave it outside,or when i like to wander the streets naked at 3am,is alexa waterproof and can i tape it to my leg?i feel someone,somewhere could be missing out on an important part of my day,and can i get it to work in tandem with other spyware like dot?

I would love to set up an Echo for my dad. He is blind and struggles with using Siri on his iPhone. The only problem is that he does not have wifi.
Alexa is good for blind people. You can register with the RNIB talking books service and get free books over Alexa (but must have wifi, of course). All controlled by voice commands. Also Radio stations.

Sadly most of that only works in the USA it wont work on a UK Alexa!

I found that the ultrasonic presence sensing quickly detects presence, but takes 30 minutes to detect I left the room
Mine dosnt seem to even work to detect anything. we tested loud noises and nothing.
