Mazda has really transformed itself into a quality car brand. Beautiful designs (some of the best on the market), reliability , and good build quality.
They haven't transformed into anything, its always been this way. Made in japan, built well and reliable. They did have a ford engine once but that was a solid naturally aspirated engine.
I’m on my second Mazda after driving nothing but US makes and I’m not disappointed. My first was a 2016 Mazda 6 Touring with a non-turbo 2.5 L and the six speed automatic. Great car, no complaints. I would still be driving it today if it hadn’t been sideswiped by a semi. Car was totaled, but I didn’t even get a bruise. I replaced it with a 2023 CX-5. This SUV has the same 2.5L engine, non-turbo, AWD, and same 6 speed automatic transmission. I routinely get 28 mpg around town (zero highway driving and under 50 mph), when I take it out on the highway it’s gotten as much as 42 mpg! Amazing vehicles both made in Japan. Really can’t complain.
Sshhhh! I don’t want pay an arm and a leg for my next Mazda! Coming up quickly on 400,000 miles on my 2015 Mazda 6. I never thought I’d own a 4 cylinder that would last 400,000 miles with no problems. Transmission is still rock solid and I’m still getting over 32 MPG. When this one finally dies, I will definitely be getting another one!
For those who don’t know, they use the same engine and transmission in all of their vehicles. This way they put all their R&D and focus on one powertrain.
While they do have less models, and fewer engines or transmissions it is simply not true that there is only one engine and transmission. Mazda offers several engines and has auto transmissions and until recently had manual transmissions (a welcome feature, in my opinion).
@@crtune They only offer skyactiv tech in their engines. They only have 2.5L, 4 cyl engines. Their engines are built the same....the "several" options don't matter if...... It's the same engine. Only a computer telling it to do something different is the difference between them.
@@gregharte9050Their engine sizes range from 1.5 to 3.3 liters in skyactiv G petrols. Their skyactiv diesels are obviously not the same... Neither is their hybrid rotary, skyactiv X is totally different as well. Also the tuning and towing capabilities all vary widely.
So happy you’ve been spotlighting Mazda…I’ve had a Corolla…Tacoma…Accord..and Element. But since I got a CX5 I’m a Mazda CONVERT! Fun and reliable and very nice interior. I’ve had a 2012 (first year CX5); 2015 CX 9 and now a 2021 CX5…loved ALL of them!
I have now owned 3 Mazda 3s and I have loved each one. I typically drive them to around 160k miles and then sell it and buy another one. Been very dependable for me too.
@@brotherjoll1802 get the usual car maintenance done and you'll have that baby as a trophy and reminder when you do make it (and it would probably still be driving!) Keep it up brother 💪
Mazda isn’t jumping on the stupid EV bandwagon. Their only EV is a compliance vehicle to satisfy the EPA, and they deserve applause for that. All other automakers are going all-in on EVs chasing the Tesla effect.
@@bendeleted9155 If anything it’ll probably make it even worse. Due to all the electrical problems their current vehicles have right now. I can’t even imagine a fully electric one lemme laugh 😂
After owning a 16 CX-5 and putting 110,000 trouble free miles on it, we are a true believer in the Mazda brand. The mere fact that Mazda hasn't gone all in with EV's is a testament to Mazda taking a more realistic approach! We are now owners of a 23 CX-5 Carbon Edition and a 23 CX-50. Fantastic cars, that are well built and affordable, compared to other brands.
I've owned two Toyota Corolla's. Had them both for over 10 years and sold e'm when I got tired of them. They would not die extremely reliable. Since 2019 I've been driving a Mazda 3 so far very reliable and way more fun to drive. Done a long road trip from Quebec city to Newfoundland doing around 11 hours of driving in a day and it is way more comfortable than the Corolla. after a 3 hour drive from Quebec to Montreal my butt would hurt with the Corolla. With the Mazda, 11 hours of driving in a day and no pain anywhere. Love Mazda, learned to drive on my dad's Mazda in the 90's (1984 Mazda 626 lasted for 17 years) so it's sort of a return to the brand for me :)
Our family has owned four Mazdas. We have a 2005 Mazda5 that is going strong with 300K on it. My wife has a 2017 CX5 that looks similar to this one. It’s a beautifully built car and so far has delivered 60K trouble free miles. And it gets 34mpg on the highway. No turbo though.
Purchased a 2024 CX50 (not turbo) a few weeks ago after owning CRV's for the last 20 yrs. The Mazda is fun to drive and is very solid and well built. We liked the CRV's but we LOVE the CX50. Looks so sharp too.
I’m 64, I’ve owned Honda’s, Toyota’s, GM’s and others. A lot of them were very good. For the past few years though, I’ve owned a Mazda CX-9 with the Aisin 6 speed automatic. I’m at 129k miles. It has been reliable and a pleasure to drive. Mazda is doing some great research and development and forging their own path. The more I learn about them, the more I like them. My CX-9 was built in Hiroshima.
@@PepiSchmeichel I have a 2014 made in Hiroshima. The documentation on it says Aisin. I understand that they began building their own not long afterwards.
I bought a 22 CX-5 last year and a Highlander. The Mazda blows the Toyota out of the water. The ride quality, interior quality, and overall design is better than anything Toyota or Honda are cranking out.
I don't own a Honda, I own a Crosstrek sport, but I'd give the new CRV a test drive. It's honestly much more Mazda like then it is Toyota like. I liked it a lot.
Im about to trade my 2023 Highlander platinum in for a loaded cx-50. Not sure yet, but im seriously considering cuz i dislike the center of gravity on the highlander
I have a Mazda 6 2008 2.5L sport. Had it for 2 years now and the best car I've owned. Great condition in and out. Starts up every time whatever the weather and runs like a dream. The interior is immaculate. Love it,
I almost bought a Mazda 3 just like this one without the turbo. It was a really nice car and I would highly recommend it. I ended up with a Ridgeline instead but it was a hard decision. Mazda is has a premium car that is hard to beat.
I agree about Japan and their quality craftsmanship. It basically applies to everything they produce. Im usually a honda/ acura and toyota lexus fan but you did a good job supporting mazda here. I would consider one. Thanks scotty!
I've had a duster, a metro, a swift, a nova (corolla clone), a neon, a civic, a neon RT, and a mazda 3. By far the mazda 3 has been the best of them (at least at the 85,000 miles mark). Although the 88 nova (corolla twin) went 260,000 miles. And the Neon RT was kind of a badxxx off a red light. And sure the metro did get 55 mpg. But all of those cars have a "yes, but..." attached. The mazda 3's been just phenomenal. Not necessarily the best in _every_ area, but it does "very well" in a much larger number of areas than any of the others. 8 years old and 85,000 miles on it. And if someone was interested in it, I wouldn't even want to hear their offer. Technically mine was assembled in mexico... maybe I got lucky. Also my civic was the worst of all of them. Maybe I was unlucky there. I dunno. *shrug*
My mom had a stick shift Mazda protege from the 90's. It was a fun little car to drive. So when I was looking for a car of my own I kept seeing car and driver articles about how mazdas are fun to drive. I now own a 2015 Mazda 6 Grand touring and I really do love this car. It's not perfect. There are minor things I would change if I could, but overall it's a reliable car and definitely a joy to drive. I've put over 50k miles on it so far and have driven it from PA to Kansas City and taken it on many other road trips. Haven't had to do any engine work on it other than routine oil changes. One of my favorite things about the car is the way the steering wheel feels. There's just something about the way it feels in your hands while you're driving. I felt instantly at home in this car when I test drove it
Had my Mazda since 2013 got it brand new. Still looks very good no one believes me when I say it’s a 2014 model. They’re design was so modern even 8 years ago. Have never had any issues just kept on with the maintenance and it’s treated me very good! I even had two minor accidents still great!
I have had mine about two months, and it is a great choice. A friend who was a lead engineer at a major car manufacturer rates the assembly and finish to much more expensive cars. Best part was the dealer did not try to pile on extra junk, and a couple of options I (my wife) chose were far less than the other two cars I looked at from Japan.
I switched to Mazda, from Honda, two years ago mainly because of the CVT that Honda had gone to. I have the smaller SUV, the CX-30, and love the performance. Since having purchased my model, they have added a turbo option which I don't really have a need for, since the performance of their standard engine has never let me down. My mileage has consistently been about 34.5 mpg for overall driving. I love that they don't use a touchscreen but have hand controls so you don't need to take your eyes off the road; I would only hope that other car companies will use this means of controlling the screen. It's much easier and safer to deal with.
Watching this video while owning a 2008 Mazda 6 GH 2.0l station wagon. Absolutely love my Mazda. She has around 261.000 KM on the clock, runs like a charm 😊
I've got a 2017 CX-5, 2.5L no turbo. I wouldn't want the turbo. Make the engine that makes the HP you want, don't put a fan and a bunch of other crap on it to make up for what it lacks. The machine drives like a dream. They make these for drivers. That's good because there's not a ton of room in it. Compare the 29 cu ft behind the back row to the 40 cu ft in a CRV. It is a helluva lot more comfortable than a CRV though.
Attention to detail and level of craftsmanship is the reason why I always buy Japanese cars. It also helps to have society that takes pride in their work. Here in the US workers cant wait to get off work. They dont care if they have job 5 or 10 years in the future. Nobody takes pride in what they do. Its all about money
Have had my CX-5 for one year and Im still blown away by the luxury I received, the fun way my crossover zips around like a car and the overall quality of the vehicle compared to what I paid. My wife just bought a 2023 Mazda 3 Carbon because she was so impressed with my car. Now officially a Mazda family and they may have us for life.
2023 Hatch Owner: Great drive solo or with family. Just completed a long road trip in it with my wife and young daughter. For me it was fun to drive, for them there was adequate space, the trunk took a full sized suitcase plus several small bags (it can take up to 2 suitcases without folding seats), and fuel economy was great. The Bose Soundsystem was incredible too. The Japanese design philosophy is evident throughout.
Beginning in 2014, the Mazda 3 has really been underrated. I'm still driving a 2.0 6 speed automatic and it still looks and drives great with no problems.
2015 here. pretty much identical car. Also 2.0, but with the 6spd manual transmission (I strongly prefer a stick). Great car, not for sale! hehe. I had a friend who had a 2013 3, it didn't look nearly as nice as the 2014/2015, but he had pretty much all the same hardware under the hood (skyactive 6spd, etc). I think they kinda eased into having a great compact car over several steps. 2014 was when the style caught up with the engineering ;)
Gotta love Mazda. We still have our 2010 Mazda 6 sedan with a little over 200k miles. Runs like a charm and at times we toggle with the manual mode. Even better. 🔥
I have a 2019 Mazda 3 Hatch AWD. This car is such a pleasure to drive every day. 3.5 years with it and no problems with it yet. I hope it lasts me forever.
Manual 2017 Mazda 3 here. I used to put 20-22k miles/yr before the pandemic. But in 2021, took it from Houston, down to Miami, up to Maine, to Niagara Falls, back down to Houston. It's at 96k. Incredible mileage still. Was in 2 accidents (none my fault), and after searching the market, decided to keep it. Only car I even consider buying was a BMW M3, but I would miss the MPG, cheap (if any) repairs, and the non-premium gas. Couldn't justify a new Mazda 3 without stick and being a sedan. Mazda is ridiculously underrated. Still looks as new inside and out since day 1
I'm surprised they don't go with the CVT like everyone else. I also considered a Corolla but after watching this learning Mazda doesn't use a CVT in it, I am leaning towards the Mazda 3 too! I drive a 2007 Fusion which is basically a Mazda 6 badged as a Ford and had great service from it.
I have a 2015 mazda 3 2.0L with a 6 speed manual transmission. It is my 9th small car (chevy/dodge/toyota/honda). It's _not_ for sale, and I'm unwilling to listen to any offers. Going by resale value, I'm not the only one. That probably sums up my thoughts on the car better than a lengthy review.
@@doax3333 I think CVT was more interesting with the old Honda HX, back when an automatic transmission meant "4" forward gears. With more modern automatics having 5 or 6 forward gears, the advantages a CVT can offer (keeping the engine at it's ideal operating rpm) gets much slimmer. Especially with engines which have variable valve timing, giving them a broader "sweet spot" of rpm's for efficiency or power. CVT's would have made a world of difference vs a 3-speed auto on a single overhead cam engine from the 80's or 90's. Compared to say, a 2015 mazda 3 six-speed with variable valve timing... a CVT isn't going to do much (even when it is working). Then again, I only drive stick. So this is a thing for other people to worry about.
@@kathrynck My Wife's 2020 Toyota CHR with CVT developed a whine at 67K Miles, Toyota dealer quoted $10,500 to replace, we sold it to Car Max the next day and bought a new Mazda CX30.... spoke with a few transmission shops, ALL CVT's are ticking timebombs that don't last and cost a fortune to replace.
@@jayrbagnes4661 If you want a family car, get the Honda. It’s more comfortable and practical than the Mazda. But if you want a car that drives just as beautiful as it looks get the Mazda. The Mazda is way better to drive than the Honda.
I had a 2015 3 Hatch manual, and in '21 traded it for a '21 3 Hatch with the 6-speed automatic, which I still have. The newer one is my favorite car I've ever owned and my first automatic in more than two decades. I actually LOVE the transmission! I have no plans to go back to Hondas for the forseeable future.
I bought a used tricked-out Miata, drove the heck out of it and sold it years later for almost the same price as I paid for it. Then I bought a 2016 CX-5 and in seven years, my only expenses have been for oil changes, new battery, new tires, new brake pads, and new wiper blades. It gets 29.9 mpg and I live in the mountains with lots of up and down and curvy roads. I intend to drive this car until the wheels fall off or I die, which ever comes first.
I bought a 2018 Mazda 6 brand new from a dealer. Love it! Great car, reasonable price, fun to drive and has the best cooled front seats of probably any car out there. Work way better than the cooled seats on my 2021 Honda Odyssey. Only two complaints: the valve cover gasket and the vvt solenoid failed at about 59,000 miles. Repairs fully covered under 60,000 mile warranty. Also, sometimes the entertainment console won’t come on (just like in this video!), and I have to stop and restart the car. No big deal there, though. Would definitely recommend Mazda 6 .
I bought a 2021 CX-5 Naturally aspirated engine. A very fun vehicle to drive. I test drove the RAV4, I thought it was loud inside. I’m happy with my CX-5. Along with great gas mileage.
I purchased a 2008 Mazda 3 Touring Hatchback New. I still own it after 15 years. When I bought it Motor Trend actually compared it to a BMW 3 at 1/2 the cost. I can't confirm that myself, but I still enjoy driving it. The Zoom Zoom feeling is real.
One more thing about manual transmission Scotty forgot to mention is if your battery gets too weak to start the car, you can push start it by depressing the clutch, put gear in 1st and come up on the clutch and the engine can start.
I wish I still had my Mazda Protege. Great car, got me through years of great driving. Changed my oil every 5,000 miles. Had very few things done on it, changed to Michelin tires, and never had wheel issues. I got talked into getting a Hyundai, and gave my protege to my brother. He drove it past 200,000 miles and then he gave it to one of his in-laws, and it drove another 100,000 miles and then it died. I guess the in-law just didn't take care of it. Best car, engine made in JAPAN!
The Japanese take pride in their work. I have a fender 1962 stratocaster reissued, made in 1996 and it's just made right. I had to return an American 1957 vintage ii because it just wouldn't stay in tune and the tone wasn't so great.
I have a 2016 Mazda 6 with 115K on it and the car hasn't given me any issues. This by far has been the best car I have owned. My wife has a 2016 mazda 3 and she loves her car.
I live in Sweden and have had new Mazda 6s from 2007, 2010, 2014 and 2019. I love this brand. Before Mazda I drove VW and had constant problems. I said to my wife that I want a Toyota to avoid headaches, but she thought the Toyotas were ugly and boring and suggested I test a Mazda, which our neighbor had. I did so and have been hooked ever since. Fun to drive, reliable and really good looking. Also, here in Sweden Mazda comes with a 10 year warranty that covers all the important parts (motor, cooling system, transmission, all electronics, etc. and 12 year rust warranty. So I get the peace of mind and for a much longer time. I drive mostly city and average 26 mpg (2.5, not tubo...note that they do not sell the turbo here, probably because of the warranty). Also, here you get much better service from Mazda than from Toyota, because Mazda is a much smaller company and needs to try harder. VW is a nightmare when it comes to service...arrogant and with the attitude that you should be thankful to be their customer. I want a company that is thankful to have me as a customer!
Hey Scotty. I ended up owning a mazda 6 GT before a tire blew out and caused me to mate with a guard rail...I miss it. I love the car so much though I kept an eye out for another. I ended up finding a mazda 6 GTR, 2021 in that same color as the one in your video. I absolutely love it. From the drive, to features, to space, it is nothing short of a dream.
I have a 2012 Mazdaspeed 3 (MPS internationally) and despite being an "economy" hot hatch I absolutely love it. I have friends with Focus STs and they're always impressed when I give them a ride in it. It has unequal length headers so it has that neat Subaru rumble, but my ringlands are actually strong :D Absolutely love this thing and it's going to be a LONG time before I even consider getting rid of it.
I miss my speed3 , I traded it in to buy a cx-5 for the wife. The handling was amazing. I was hoping another speed3 AWD was coming but it’s been sacked. Have fun!
Totally agree- I still have my totally standard Velocity red 3MPS in Spain - absolutely love it. It will do mid 30's MPG just driving it normally but will still return 28MPG sporty driving. I also have my 2002 Mazda 323 here in Spain no rust as we don't salt the roads here. Still runs perfect and is really economical.
Scotty, I drive a 2014 Mazda 3 S Touring with the 2.5l motor, 6 speed automatic, and it's about to turn over 200k. Use no oil. Doesn't leak. Tons of power. It just keeps going! And it's made... You guessed it... In Japan!
I love my 2014 3 and so many mods for it. Mazda makes their own transmissions and are rock solid. My car is a manual and even though its 2.0 hatch its so good looking and so much fun. Japan they practice Kaizan which is a quality/efficiency practice.
I LOVE my ‘21 CX30 Premium. It’s a luxury vehicle all the way and it’s SUPER fun to drive with the paddle shifters. My first Mazda andI don’t know if I’ll ever buy another brand.
The Mazda 3 hatchback sold in the US is made in Japan, but the sedans are typically made in Mexico. Check the door jamb of your model to find out. That said, anyone in their right mind should be buying the hatch, so they'll get a Japanese-made one. 🙂
I worked for a Japanese company in Canada for 37 years, I retired and bought A Mazda CX5 Turbo (made in Japan) and I'm so happy I did. Not many Japanese brand cars/SUV built in Japan anymore. Ho, one more thing.....YOU DA MAN Scotty! Stay as you are, dead honest!
Bought a 2023 CX-30. No CVT, No Turbo. Great vehicle. Only negative is the gas tank is only 12.7 gallons, range is 310 miles. If you drive locally this won’t be a problem.
I’ve been leasing a 2021 Mazda3 Hatchback Premium for almost 2 years now and I love it. Used to own 2 Nissan Altimas so I’m fond of Japanese makes but I gotta say, that 6-speed transmission makes all the difference! Really considering opting in to finance a new 3 or a CX-30
I have a Mazda 6 2018 love it. Wish they didn't stop making it. Got 79k miles on it and still runs great it's the touring model too so it's very classy looking with an expensive feel to it. Black leather interior, run roof, beautiful rims etc..
Best endorsement I can think of. My wife is now on her third CX-5 lease. Every time she had to travel in a company Camry or Chevy Impala, she came home complaining. Then she had to put her second one in the body shop for a couple of days and the insurance company gave her a Cadillac. She had to make a 120 mile round trip. Came home, "PLEASE call the body shop and see when I can get my car back. The ride in that Cadillac is HORRIBLE."
Had a 18 Mazda 6 and for the money no car is better. The interior is absolutely beautiful and the outside styling is gorgeous. I had the fully loaded version with the upgraded wheels. My only complaint was even though it was a blast to drive it’s still slow. If it could get in the 4 range it would definitely make it that much better.
My 2004 Buick Park Avenue Supercharged 3800 3.8L series III engine is basic luxury and is almost 20 years old and every thing is so easy to use no touch screens key less remote start that gets stolen as if you do not have the VATS KEY III physical key the car will not run is disables its self.. No fancy tech to break and parts are so cheap and easy to find.
I have a cx-5. Got it after putting 100k miles on a Mazda 3. Really nice to drive and has a lot of features that other brands would charge 15k extra for. Will probably get the cx-70 for extra oomph

For the past 12 years, I have only driven Mazda. Mazda 3,6, and just recently cx-5 2023. Our first Mazda 3 had 225k miles. Great cars and reliable.

it’s true my new miata uses a diesel sky activ-D just like the mazda3.. oh wait🫨

My first car was a black 2014 Mazda 3 - absolutely loved it!! Now I have a 2018 CX5 and love that too! I’m a fan for life.

I felt instantly at home in this car when I test drove it
I had a stick shift 1995 protege bought it used in 1999 with 50k miles, it lasted until near 300,000, just got rid of it a few years ago.
If I were Mazda/Honda/Toyota I would love to invite Scottie over to the factories to promote the build quality of their cars!
My hubby and I just bought our 2023 Sedan preferred last night! We love it!!!❤ Great review!!!!
I used to own an Mazda MX5 Mk1 Eunos. That beauty was indestructible. Respected Mazda ever since.
When I saw the design of their new CX 60 I was stunned - the most beautiful SUV on the market. And with Mazda's straight six. Awesome.

Attention to detail and level of craftsmanship is the reason why I always buy Japanese cars. It also helps to have society that takes pride in their work.

They also developed their own 6AT technology to match their so called Sky-active G sysyem.
Because CVT SUCKS

I do love this guys personality, very entertaining but not over the top
I LOVE my ‘21 CX30 Premium. It’s a luxury vehicle all the way and it’s SUPER fun to drive with the paddle shifters. My first Mazda andI don’t know if I’ll ever buy another brand.
Just bought my 2023 CX-30 and love every minute driving it.
The Mazda 3 hatchback sold in the US is made in Japan, but the sedans are typically made in Mexico. Check the door jamb of your model to find out.
That said, anyone in their right mind should be buying the hatch, so they'll get a Japanese-made one. 🙂
man that is a beautiful car. I especially like the free book included in the passenger door.
I've had my 2018 Mazda CX-5 for over two years not, it's been great and no problems mechanically...
With Toyota and Honda's troubles, Mazda is already the best car brand!! 😊
And my 2015 Model 3 gets 60+ MPG on the highway on a warm summer day!
I think toyota owns some of mazda..
You lost me at "best."
@liquidsword601 Honda oil dilution and countless AC compressors failing. Toyota has had some real oil burning engines as well.
I have a 2014 CX-5 & no issues
Automatic(no garbage cvt), affordable awd, nice styling, plenty of reasons to choose Mazda.
I have a CX-30 and I love it!
Still loving it? Trying to decide between that and a Mazda3
I love the book in the passenger door packet. The great reset
Thanks!
