Like most every Pink Floyd song, the lyrics are eternal. The music is forever and if people 100 years from now can't feel that, then human kind is eternally doomed...
It is about how the world does not see what it does not want to, as real as poverty and oppression are, most choose to ignore it. I know they have always tried to spread empathy in this world, this is just one of them. Also us and them. I think it was particularly good choice for Live Aid and other concerts for Africa, Bangladesh etc. They, especially David Gilmour have given alot to humanitarian causes. Gilmour gave his huge guitar collection to be sold through English auctions and 100 % of proceeds to charities. What a wonderful man, human being.
NEVER TURN YOUR BACK to a a person thats doing a lot worse than you. My parents taught me that when I was young and I've never forgotten it. That person could be you one day.
Pink Floyd has always been about empathy and the human condition. It is an underlying theme that quietly connects nearly all their music... and may be one of the things that makes their work so enduring over generations. Check out 'Us and Them' from Dark Side of the Moon album.
Having empathy for the human condition and understanding the human condition are not the same things. While you can't achieve an improvement in the former without such an understanding. Walters is an Atheist Communist, which says it all. Without this understanding, the 'solution' is invariably worse than the problem, indeed MUCH WORSE. Always be warned about rich people who are very good at explaining perceived problems but never bother to give any solutions, often because they know full well that YOU won't like them, to say the least.
@@garypowell1540 Roger Waters walks the talk and is a active as anyone in the music business as far as defining his beliefs, both political and compassionate, and supporting them in myriad ways including financial.
