If I had a dollar for every one who said that I would be a rich man. Have you not watched Nev’s fishing or Gido’s channel? I might add that as a fishing/boating channel Rod has almost half a million subscribers! That’s very good.
Hey man, been following a few years now I'm glad to see the channel reaching almost 500k! You're a beast man! Keep doing what you're doing, much love ❤️ Wales, UK
You know you have watched a lot of Rods tube clips when after he takes a bite of his finished master piece you find yourself saying mmmh before he dose after his bite 🤣🎣👌
Love smoked tailor dip. I’ve been making a dip after my annual trip to Fraser for years. Can eat tailor for longer after returning home if ya smoke it AND make a dip, it’s so delicious. Little camp smokers do a great job, and they’re cheap.
16:06 as far as water goes for cleaning up try to keep weight off the roof, more kilos on the roof is creating a higher centre of gravity in your car and can lead more easily to 4WD rollovers, a vehicle should slide in a sharp turn rather than tip over. EBay has 12v pressure pumps for about $20 (the same ones caravan outlets sell for $180) just connect it to a 20L water container on the floor in the back with a hose and a tap, turn the tap on and the pump starts. A fun weekend project. 😅 or you could just gravity feed a 20L container out the tailgate with garden hose fittings and drinking water hose, keep that container on the floor for the lowest centre of mass for your car. They put a bitterness agent as well as the colour in metho to try and avoid consumption.
Yum. Smoked Taylor is one of my favourite. Save yourself work and mess and leave the scales on. Smokes better too and skin peels easily. Also, a couple of hours dry brining in sugar and salt is ideal-seasoning and flavour penetrates deeper and it improves the texture. Love ya work Rod.
Rod, you are an absolute top notch gent. Such a good hearted soul you've got. Of course we all have our qualities and weaknesses but few people can maintain their integrity, heart, and smile through the good and bad the way you do. Don't focus on the negatives too much, they'll always be near and are not worth the thought invested in them by the few good ones out here. Ps. Still waiting to get you out on the water out here in LA. The boat's always ready and waiting for ya when you make it back out to the states. Thanks for the great content as always, bruddah!
Hell Yeah! I've caught some of the biggest fish during weather like this. Only a select few fishers would come out and endure the challenges that this type of weather brings but can be very rewarding! Nice video!
Maybe one of the Ontap portable showers would suit you mate. Tank, pump, shower, washdown etc all in one unit. Simple to chuck in the car when its needed or even in the boat for longer trips..
Hey Rokkit just wanted to say thanks for the great videos. They really get a lot of us through the days and nights. I particularly love the catch and cook videos. Your recipes look delicious. I want to try the tar tar one you tried with your son when I get home. Looks simple enough. Thanks again “mate”. Cheers from California USA
Another one of your recipes that I'm going to steal, Rod!! Already stolen the mango ceviche, lol 😅 Looks delicious and we get heaps of Tailor here in Perth as well. Awesome vid as always, loved the fishing story from when you were younger. Next time bring Foxie or Dash with you so they get to pass it on to their kids.😊
Awesome video ! No matter what weather, Rod is out by the ocean and he loves it - me too lol ! 👍Thank you Rod, you are so blessed in Down Under to have your place to go out and catch fresh fishes as you like❣😋i see a new cooking style from the whole fishes, i bet they taste delicious...
15:45 Getting a stainless steel 'soap' bar (legit just a soap-shaped piece of stainless steel) from bunnings would probably be a good idea, it gets rid of the fish smell from your hands and would probably save you a bunch of water that you'd otherwise use to wash your hands. I've tried all kinds of soaps to get rid of fishy hands after fishing, and none of them work as good as the good ol' stainless steel soap, and it'll last you your whole life.
You're up at the spit! Every time I walk up there I wonder how good the fishing would be. Happy to see you caught some of decent tailor. You've convinced me to give it a go this coming week
Your outdoor patio is a whole vibe mate. And how your channel doesn't have millions of subs is beyond me. Someday maybe I'll get up there with ya. Tight lines.
Thanks Rod. I've spent many morning hours pelting metals off the Sydney rocks for Tailor, Salmon, Bonito. So much fun and productive. Nice to see you doing the same up your way and hearing the story about your early years off Clovelly with your dad.
Put some oil on the grill before placing fish ,won't stick much . Also try to mix 50/50 brown sugar with salt and garlic mixed with dill. Smells amazing.
nice love catching them, we have these on the east coast of the US we call them bluefish, I remember being about 8 years old and getting my dad to dad to cook the bluefish we caught at 3 in the morning, after being at sea fishing for 8 hours, the 'cheeks' of the bluefish are pretty good...
Hey Rod, thinking about your water problem have you seen the 20L jerry cans with 12v pumps inbuilt? That was you can take it out the car and put it on the boat or camp. I run on for camping and they are great
For those interested, a great metal slug is the Spanyid Raider. Not the easiest to find in the shops these days. When I lived on the Gold Coast, I always caught fish with it. I used a slightly larger one than the slug in the video with a high-speed spinning reel.
Another great video ! Re the better wash down solution comment , found a great Australian made 20L/12V jerry can wash down kit from a Sydney based company called OnTap . Bought one for our Stabi 1450 / car / camping . Very handy and portable . Keep up the awesome content !
Rodney, you wouldn’t catch me standing on a slick, wet rock right above an angry sea. Wow, you are a trooper for being out in that catching dinner. Your smoked fish cream cheese dip would be delicious on bagels. ❤
Top stuff again Rod How about a challenge out on an island where it’s beach v boat for fun and fish quality and quantity etc Also would you smoke catfish if nothing else available? (To eat lol)😊
Dinkumrometor was going off with the pluggers on the rocks in that sloppy weather 🇦🇺 love the work and dedication to a feed mate. If you don’t mind me offering a little constructive criticism, my only piece of advice would be to use table salt instead of flake/rock salt as you get a more even spread on the fish, on top of that once you’ve salted and sugared it leave it sit for a couple of hours before smoking. You’ll notice the salty sweet taste will penetrate it a lot further.
Hey mate! 'Ontap' sell a jerrycan which holds 20L of water. You can also get a cable which attaches to a cigarette socket and it pumps the water out. I have had one for a while, which I take out on the boat.
Oh man i still use those old mitchel 302 reels!! Things are beasts, ive brought in some nice bull reds and jack crevails.. great videos and tight lines
I find it funny that in the land of giant fish your Taylor or Bluefish are so small. In The Northeast we get big ones, we call them Choppers or Gators, the record is close to 30 lbs! We love them smoked as well. Another great vid!
Great video mate. Think beach/rock fishing will be a great add to the channel. Perfect for you being close to the Goldy too. Keep up the good work. Also what kind of salt was that? Looked a bit yellow..
They look similar to our Bluefish off North Carolina's coast. My first one was 45yrs ago when I was 12 and I didn't see the teeth because of the thin lip they have that cover the teeth. I lipped him like bass and laid my thumb wide open. If your fish are like the Bluefish here, they're not very good for regular cooking cause they're really greasy but they're really awesome when smoked.
Another nice video.. i was up the spit the other day doing the same thing got some nice taylor and made a raw fish.. and why didnt u buttlerfly the fiah and put the brown s7gar on the inside its way better
This might sound strange but when you cast you should be able to use the reel straight away the forward hand shouldn’t coming off the rod which means you have the handle on the wrong side but guess it what your use to🎉
Another great vid! On the topic of creeks in the goldie, have you ever seen bullsharks in tallebudgera and currumbin creeks? I don't know if I should swim there lol
If you build a roof rack made from ABS (black plastic pipe), put a spigot on it and a vent valve, on sunny days you get a hot shower. I have seen surfers in California with such a setup.
If you ran a bungy chord from the bow to the stern pole, through those external loops on your tent/tarp, then that might give you even more room and stability in your tent?
Rod tried a camel water backpack?.. throw it up top when u need it w a hose w a snake flex if needed.. keep it cool in car not hot roof and no heavy top off center tipsy. red rocket repairable.. but would you trust it ?? do they offer rebuild w manufacturer ?
would recommend something like the ontap jerry cans for the water supply, personally I made my own system with a water pump off amazon but they are a great all in one system.
I'm here just to say you deserve a million followers already because your videos are top notch quality. Definitely an underrated RUclipsr.
I agree 💯 percent.
If I had a dollar for every one who said that I would be a rich man. Have you not watched Nev’s fishing or Gido’s channel? I might add that as a fishing/boating channel Rod has almost half a million subscribers! That’s very good.
Yes mate definitely deserves a million 👍🍻
Here here I agree ☝️
Absolutely agree 100%
16:32 The level of organization this man has is bloody inspirational.
Haha I did the same.. and with the hand gesture after..
Love smoked tailor dip. I’ve been making a dip after my annual trip to Fraser for years. Can eat tailor for longer after returning home if ya smoke it AND make a dip, it’s so delicious. Little camp smokers do a great job, and they’re cheap.
It must be a nightmare trying to create content with the miserable weather we've had this year, and yet you come up with another awesome vid!
Fishing is fishing, regardless of land or boat. We outside! Keep posting Rod!

It was a blast and as always, I'm drooling!
Blessings,
K.T.

Great video, love the change of pace!
Your content is the best. No one can say otherwise. Thank you for what you do. Cheers!
Very cool to see you fishing off the rocks, Rod! Hoping to see more rock fishing videos like this 🤙🏽
always enjoy watching your vids! cheers all the way from Vancouver Canada!
Hell Yeah! I've caught some of the biggest fish during weather like this. Only a select few fishers would come out and endure the challenges that this type of weather brings but can be very rewarding! Nice video!

I’ve made / replicated probably 10 meals so far and EVERY SINGLE ONE was delicious and an absolute hit with the family 🙌🏻
Cheers Mate, yea Dash is not as interested in fishing, more surfing and diving... but Fox on the other hand is keen as mustard 😁
That was great, I love the 'bread and butter' fishing trips like that. Yum, I need to get some salmon for my smoker this winter ! Nice !
Awesome video ! No matter what weather, Rod is out by the ocean and he loves it - me too lol ! 👍Thank you Rod, you are so blessed in Down Under to have your place to go out and catch fresh fishes as you like❣😋i see a new cooking style from the whole fishes, i bet they taste delicious...
love it how you mix it up so much, definitely keeps the video interesting!

I thought the spit too but I believe it's Fingal headland after seeing the carpark
Your outdoor patio is a whole vibe mate. And how your channel doesn't have millions of subs is beyond me. Someday maybe I'll get up there with ya. Tight lines.
Rod, that fish looked soooo good!!! I could almost taste it! Another great vlog...as usual!! XOXOX
Felt very homesick seeing those Tugun and Currumbin road signs. I lived in Currumbin Valley for twenty years.
Thanks Rod. I've spent many morning hours pelting metals off the Sydney rocks for Tailor, Salmon, Bonito. So much fun and productive. Nice to see you doing the same up your way and hearing the story about your early years off Clovelly with your dad.
Nice video rod! You brought back fond memories of fishing the same rock. We avoided the pumping jetty due to over crowding.
I prefer butterfly smoke fish than whole, but definitely, I give it a go.
Looks good 😋
Rough day for a bit of fishing Rod. Reminds of EVERY DAY I try to beach/pier cast here in Ireland. 🤣🤣 Some nice fishing pal.👍👍
Put some oil on the grill before placing fish ,won't stick much . Also try to mix 50/50 brown sugar with salt and garlic mixed with dill. Smells amazing.
Going to have to try that with the next lot of Tailor I catch. Great video
Thanks for always supporting the channel mate. Definitely appreciate it 🤙
you could put a line thru the eyelets to the bracket from the pole, could give you a little more head room
nice love catching them, we have these on the east coast of the US we call them bluefish, I remember being about 8 years old and getting my dad to dad to cook the bluefish we caught at 3 in the morning, after being at sea fishing for 8 hours, the 'cheeks' of the bluefish are pretty good...
Rinsekits are damn good for the portability, use one when I'm camping, or cleaning up myself/gear after a day of fishing.
Great meal for the family. And you worked for it! Cheers!
Congratulations on opening up the new shop man 👌🏼👌🏼
I've been watching Rod since 2019. Great content, video quality and most importantly great bloke! GL with the business!
Great vid as always rod, if you wet the chips first you will go through a 1/2 the amount
Hey Rod, thinking about your water problem have you seen the 20L jerry cans with 12v pumps inbuilt? That was you can take it out the car and put it on the boat or camp. I run on for camping and they are great
Awesome vid, rod. I like the more casually beach fish really. Also you fishing in bad weather is so calming to watch i dont know why, keep it up :-)
Grew up fishing with the Alvey in Northern Rivers area great fishing. Bushyboy Oz
For those interested, a great metal slug is the Spanyid Raider. Not the easiest to find in the shops these days. When I lived on the Gold Coast, I always caught fish with it. I used a slightly larger one than the slug in the video with a high-speed spinning reel.
Danke!
Hey I live in Jervis Bay! If you’re ever down again Rod I’d be happy to show you around!
Rod you are 21 bud 100% . This was Awesome… You are the best …
Dang I am so hungry now. My dad loved to smoke fish. Thanks man for sharing.
Another great video ! Re the better wash down solution comment , found a great Australian made 20L/12V jerry can wash down kit from a Sydney based company called OnTap . Bought one for our Stabi 1450 / car / camping . Very handy and portable . Keep up the awesome content !
Wicked Rod. Let's go, buddy. Love the channel!!
Tough fishing. You deserve those fish. I love the rock fishing and looking forward to the beach fishing.
This was different and very nice to watch thank you
Rodney, you wouldn’t catch me standing on a slick, wet rock right above an angry sea. Wow, you are a trooper for being out in that catching dinner. Your smoked fish cream cheese dip would be delicious on bagels. ❤
love those lumpy water days fish close in in any lee
Does anyone know where we can buy these smokers around Sydney? This dish looks absolutely beautiful I want to get my hands on one of these!
You are the best Rod.
Man you slay/ your videos bring a sense of nostalgia
Top stuff again Rod
How about a challenge out on an island where it’s beach v boat for fun and fish quality and quantity etc
Also would you smoke catfish if nothing else available? (To eat lol)😊
I think this one was totally cool. You should do more shore fishing and catch and cook videos
Great fishing, but the food sublime. Yummo 😊😊
Hey mate! 'Ontap' sell a jerrycan which holds 20L of water. You can also get a cable which attaches to a cigarette socket and it pumps the water out. I have had one for a while, which I take out on the boat.
Just went online and checked them out. Looks perfect for what I do, super simple too. Can see myself getting one very soon😁 thanks for the tip👍
@rokkitkit all good, man! Appreciate the content. Might see you out and about if you ever come up to Cape moreton!
Oh man i still use those old mitchel 302 reels!! Things are beasts, ive brought in some nice bull reds and jack crevails.. great videos and tight lines
Rock fishing is some of the best fun rod!!! The recon rod had the goods buy the looks. Nice feed there.
I do cold smoked salmon too , maybe it would work for tuna :).
I find it funny that in the land of giant fish your Taylor or Bluefish are so small. In The Northeast we get big ones, we call them Choppers or Gators, the record is close to 30 lbs! We love them smoked as well. Another great vid!
they have much bigger ones in Aus,not sure I have seen Rod catch some but Briggsy (another aussie channel did catch a massive one off the rocks)
outstanding vid got the rercipe gonna try with smoked whitefish here in manitoba can
The fish bite is on no matter the weather 😀❤
Haven't been up there since the early 90s but that looks like the end of Letitia Road. Great looking water.
I learned one thing after watching many of your videos. DO NOT start watching them if you're not full or you don't have any snacks around you xD
Love you vlogs mate, cant wait to visit Sydney, 12 days away.
Caught the biggest greenbacks from that very spot back in the early 90's :) smoked or baked also they make great fish patties
Love going there, good little drive for me though.
My first tailor there 😊🤙🏿
Got me drooling like a fat kid in a candy shop!!😂 much love from the coast of Maine 🤙
Great video mate. Think beach/rock fishing will be a great add to the channel. Perfect for you being close to the Goldy too. Keep up the good work. Also what kind of salt was that? Looked a bit yellow..
Look into a garden pump sprayer for water holder for the truck.
They look similar to our Bluefish off North Carolina's coast. My first one was 45yrs ago when I was 12 and I didn't see the teeth because of the thin lip they have that cover the teeth. Dude, you are not helping my attempts to get slimmer. My mouth is watering like a Las Vegas sprinkler watching this food get made.
We need another island camping trip soon rod i personally love those videos
Thank you, bud.😮😮
I hope you get too a million bro I'll keep sharing.
Dude, you need to come to Brazil! Santa Catarina has beautiful beaches, it would make incredible content.
Hi Rod another great vid, perhaps I've missed an episode but do you still have the yacht, if so do you have any more trips with it planned.
Fresh taylor grilled over hardwood coals, folding wire grill, delicious.
Rod tried a camel water backpack?.. throw it up top when u need it w a hose w a snake flex if needed.. keep it cool in car not hot roof and no heavy top off center tipsy.
red rocket repairable.. but would you trust it ??
do they offer rebuild w manufacturer ?
Was that up near Caloundra? Thought I recognised the turnoff from the Highway (probably very wrong). Been 37 years since I lived in Queensland.
Nice going, better luck than me although the Taylor fishing should be getting better.
Did you happy to check what they were feeding on?
Look up the flextail max shower for you rinse station. Works perfect
would recommend something like the ontap jerry cans for the water supply, personally I made my own system with a water pump off amazon but they are a great all in one system.
Get a pressurised garden sprayer, cheap and you can get some that hold over 10 litres if that's all you need
Mate great vid as usual love what you do, just wondering where you got your smoker? its a cool design
just thank you for your videos
my Friday is complete! lets go!
That spoon flip was smooth.
Thanx man
