  • In this episode we meet Kyle and Kari, a brave couple that has been a support (along with others) to their community of religious disaffiliates as they have been awakened to the realities of their group in shocking ways. What group are we talking about? Meet the Two By Twos, at times referred to as "the no name church", a group that doesn't necessarily have a specific designated name from within, but which has been given names primarily by the secular community. Much like Jehovah's Witnesses, they often refer to their doctrine as The Truth, and they also use similar terminology, such as the friends, the meetings, elders, overseers, worldly, conventions, and more. Sadly, just like Jehovah's Witnesses but more recent, they too have been devastated by allegations of child sex abuse that have come out of the darkness and into the light. This is the story of Kyle and Kari, and the group commonly known today as the 2x2s, the Two By Twos, and The Truth.

    I remember a missionary at bethel dying because she "got stuck in a fold-up bed" and was found later by her husband. As an adult, I wonder what truly happened there.

      Accidents certainly happen, but there are also really messed up things that happen in the cult just like there would be anywhere else, as they're just people. I've known of many sad situations, crimes really, that have occurred inside the organization.

      It was a pleasure to get to meet you both, and I have so much respect for what you've done and continue to do, even if at some point you just go live your own lives away from supporting others. Everyone should get a chance to live free from these groups, and I'm glad that you are. Best wishes moving forward, finding yourselves in new ways, and living in happiness, whatever that looks like for you. :)

    I learned something new today, thanks.

    However, w/ all the CSA & SA coming out & Yes, the workers & friends Absolutely Know What's Going On bc I've heard from my family & friend's who Are Shocked but are Praying & Very Supportive of & for The Victims. A lot of people I've heard on "other videos or talking to in person from some people who also left that think it's still hidden & that people like my family & friends who still go Are Supposedly Not Supporting The Victims & my experience talking to many That is Not Any of their Reasons for Still Going/or Not Leaving
    ~All in all I have found many different views, thoughts, experiences both inside & outside the 2x2's

      In Victorian times, the word ‘nice’ meant the exact opposite of what it means now. At this same time, baby clothes were pink for boys and blue for girls, this also got reversed.

    I have traveled the world and easily found others to have fellowship. Since there are no rules and regulations it is different in different areas. It is preached to follow and worship God and not any man. My experience is different and I was encouraged to ask questions and bring anyone to a meeting. I never feel or felt restricted of anything to be accepted but encouraged to be modest and follow the commandments.
    It saddens me when I hear others who have been harmed in any way and wish only good things in their lives.

    From listening to different people who were in our 2x2 way in videos, I think a lot of our exact feelings abt what we believed were more based on who our family's were for parents or grandparents ~ or maybe it's based on reason leaving bc you were scared to death of going to hell (such as cutting bangs @ age 14) & after high school leaving home & never turning back, but then wanting to go back when older bc your life was a mess from drugs, alcohol etc but either seeing differently of how nice you were treated by the friends in your parents home mtgs. by going back to the fellowship ~but obviously I've heard so many others w/ completely opposite experiences that I have never heard of or seen before in all my childhood yrs or after I had gone back several times throughout adult yrs. I'm in NO WAY saying others are exaggerating things or making things up ~because like I said @ beginning I think it was everyone's different family's who "Gave them their thoughts & ideas"
    how we saw ourselves, what we were "taught" how we looked at outside world, having friends from school & just by time stamp 25min for this video & other's I've watched

    UK church history! I know this one! Weird christian religions started in the UK in the 1800s because the CofE was a state religion. CofE/Anglicanism could only build new churches if they had an Act of Parliement giving permission for them to build it. For each and every new church! Veerrrryyyy slow process.
    So the new towns and cities and new city suburbs had no churches for the new populations that moved there. So people started their own bible groups and lay preachers giving Sunday sermons meeting in rented rooms/meeting halls, and people's homes.
    So we got Methodists, Wesleyans, and a lot of others that way. It's also why they talk about workers and adult education a lot, because there was also movements for universal education, workers rights and unions, often involving the same people.

    Is there a support group anywhere for ex jw's?

    • @shunnedpodcast
      @shunnedpodcast  3 месяца назад +5

      I used to run a Facebook group of 2000+ individuals, but today I offer one on one support and coaching through recovery. There are lots of groups on Facebook, one that has a pretty good vibe being The Liberati on there, and there is the very large exjw subreddit at r/exjw. At one point I would host weekly recovery groups online, but it was a lot of work and not always well supported. So you can find one on one support in a safe environment through someone like myself, and you can find lots of groups on Facebook and reddit. Just be aware that in these groups you're often getting support from other people that are hurting too in the same ways, which can be validating, but the advice isn't always the healthiest if people haven't gotten help and demonstrated real change, so take everything with a grain of salt.
