I wasn't brought up Jehovah Witness but I was brought up in a very tight knit non denominational Christian church group. We weren't really allowed to watch t.v. or listen to music if it wasn't Christian in nature. I remember when Amy Grant all of the sudden was on the list of things of what not to watch. So besides the whole thing that it wasn't a Christian cartoon we especially weren't supposed to watch the Smurfs. This was of course because of the fact that there was a sorcerer in the whole mix of the cartoon. So I've never heard this very specific story about Smurfs, but the prevailing thought of Smurfs bad is pervasive into many sectors of these religious groups. I just now found this channel kind of on accident but I was also shunned from my church as a child after my mom decided to "come out" at our church campout. We were promptly asked to leave and I never again saw or talked to any of the only people that I had known growing up after that day. So just know that it's not only Jehovah Witnesses that shun. Lol. I hear that same voice in my head.

Similar situation happened to my mother in the mid to the late 60's. Two Witnesses knock on my mother's door engaged her in conversation regarding this system of things and that this world is passing away. This meeting lead to her starting a Bible study using the Truth Book. Eventually she was baptized and brought myself and my three siblings up in the Truth. I was baptized and grew in the Truth, however eventually I was disfellowship for being homosexual. I had went to counseling to change my thoughts I prayed I tried to not have impure thoughts. I was bringing my self to the point of ending my life. I told this all to the Elders they told me that I was not repentive enough and that the only recourse was to disfellowship me. My sister had no contact with my mother had limited contact, I was not allowed to know my nieces and nephews. The guilt this cult pours on you is really impossible to put into words.

Lady you are so brave to leave... congratulations! Having been down a similar path, I can't wait until you reach a point in your discovery of self that not only JW is total baloney, but ALL religions are, and all about control. I couldn't believe some elder picked you up from school, alone, and talked with you in the car.... not happening today! My only advice is "onward, every day".

I’ve known Jehovah witnesses for many years I’m not one myself but they have been visiting me often I thought they were my friends but recently I spoke up and asked a couple questions did not get an answer and they took it offensive and now I haven’t heard from them since I’ve seen one of the families shun their own daughter it was awful, but I’ve also seen one of the families get drunk all the time it seems they have a double standard, recently they came to my home and I asked a couple questions and they said they would like to read something to me I said don’t read it to me because I won’t understand the words just tell it to me and explain it but they wouldn’t do that they had to read it and I didn’t understand it, it comes down to the teacher who is teaching and if they can’t teach they shouldn’t be out there and they should be held liable for being such a lousy teacher especially when they destroy families and now after watching this I see what a disgusting organization they are, not the individual people and not the people that I’ve known I think they’re good people but the whole organization the way they put this together it’s really a joke what a terrible way to live your life. I’ve been watching other individuals that have become X Jehovah witnesses and it’s the same story for everyone it’s awful, and the reason I looked into this is because I wanted to find out what wood pool people into this type of cult, they’ve never convinced me of anything but the people I’ve known I really liked and again I thought they were my friends but they can’t be my friend because I’m not part of their stupid cult

Jodi, I want you to know that the parts of your brothers' stories you were able to tell and share were very moving. What happened was too tragic and difficult and you, as a youngster, to see your brother David treated so badly by the JW organisation in his moment of greatest need as a teenager himself, having made a terrible and tragic mistake, which teenagers are prone to do and then him being unsupported by them again at the end of his life... that is all very difficult to digest. I hope you're able to give yourself the love and acceptance you're giving others that you truly deserve and also that you can find a creative way to do the eulogies for David and Bob that you know they deserve. ❤❤❤

Jenny, I know how hard it is for a JW to break away from their beliefs. Some of my siblings are including my mother who was in that cult. At her funeral they never said a thing about her, but used that time to expound their beliefs. It is all about a devotion to an organization which has little time for the true love of the people. God is a love that frees us to share with others each in our own way. You are God's blessings to all your family and all of us who heard your story. the tears that you shed now will be replaced by the joy of the Lord when God's love will be the rule of the day. From a little girl who wanted friends and to be accepted honest and innocent to a grown women that never lost that love for her family no matter what such an inspiring lady would be a pleasure to know and be around thank you for you for sharing your story.

Escaping any cult, you are not allowed to leave honorably. So, they go after you so as to "keep the congregation clean" looking to corner you in some way in order to give them reason to remove you (dishonorably) and announce to the congregation (publicly) that you have been removed for: "Unclean conduct" or "Unchristian conduct" or some other vague smear to spark speculation and rumor. The Elders try to get you to vocalize your belief or feelings that quite often are viewed as "apostate" thinking. If you don't "repent" or "humbly" relinquish your attitude or beliefs you are labeled an "apostate" and removed. The best strategy if confronted by this Elder ambush is to state that you do have some questions and concerns but that you have decided to "WAIT ON JEHOVAH". Now they have been checkmated. They can't say you can't wait on Jehovah because JW's are constantly told to patiently wait on Jehovah by their Organization. Do NOT go into WHAT your questions and concerns are. Tell them they are not important and Jehovah will eventually clarify things as "the light gets brighter and brighter". Their visit may be full of smiles and compliments but know it is a trap. Don't give them the information they need to remove you.

That's exactly what happened to my single mother in 1974. 25 yrs old 3 kids. (Older sister was 7 I was 5 and little brother was just born). Scared her into joining.

When you are abused sometimes you don’t recognize abusive situations. Same thing happened to me after my first talk. Keep the stories coming. This is my fav channel.

Thanks for sharing your story Kenesha. I can really relate to when you said you left but hadn't processed it. I felt like I just accepted I was a bad person that couldn't live the JW way and I was going to be destroyed sometime in the future. I also relate to being treated like a trophy to my parents. The way your mom reacted when you started to rebel a little bit was selfish. I have realized that a lot of jw parents view their children as extensions of themselves and are more concerned about how you make them look and the embarrassment they could face from the cong. I'm so sorry for the way your family treated you. Calling the police on you was crazy. I would have loved to hear how they explained that to the police. Knowing what I know now, I would have said, "Let's do that, let's call the police. I want you to explain to them what's going on here." I'm happy you've broken the curse.
