      Nice to see some people with the psychological depth in reporting on this issue. I completely agree with this entire approach of thinking. We are up against the works of one brain and that brain has the power to annihilate humanity. A lot of times on this planet someone clicks and causes some casualties but the worst is when someone gets hold of some AR15 automatic rifle and walks into a school and shoots kids. If Putin clicks, it's not one AR15 that will be available to him but enough missiles to wipe out humanity multiple times. This scenario we can not afford. Let Putin get away with some negotiated deal, even it's not morally right, and some day he will be dead anyway and a more sane leader will take his role. He can lie through his controlled media to the Russians right now but some day they will know the truth and understand. Germans of today are not defending Hitler and likewise Russians will not defend Putin either eventually.

      Yes you are absolutely right. You are looking at this through a different lens. The MSM has lots of retired generals and admirals who also can contribute an important perspective but people with your background and insight are very thin I the ground. Ideally someone like Amanpour will interview you so that your perspective gets shared with more people. So far, at least on English speaking media there is previous little on the various players in Putin's court, and you are the first I have heard mention their kids - which is an ignored vector of influence - as is Putin's own family. We need to think about the possibility of the use of chemical weapons. The false flag possibility, the reaction of defenders and of the Russian people if they are used on a Ukrainian city. Personally I can't see the wholesale use of chemical weapons as it would just be too disgusting, but I can see them as a terrorist weapon designed to have a terror impact way in excess of any impact. How would that go down with the Russian population? Another question is the idea of using Chechen and or Syrian mercenaries.

    • @spiffingbooks8028
      @spiffingbooks8028 2 года назад

      I know it's not your specialisation but do you have any thoughts on the use of tariffs (maybe characterised as a reparations tax ) instead of an oil embargo? The idea is that a tariff of say $50/ bll of Russian oil might end up being derived from the economic rent extracted by Russia, rather than just jack up the price of oil (and thus blow back in the west).

    • @ianc4901
      @ianc4901 2 года назад +1

      @@spiffingbooks8028 What if there was a 'tactical' chemical weapons strike on Russian troops ?
      They could then be returned to Russia for treatment and rehabilitation and their experiences could be splashed across the news for the whole of Russia to see how they were attacked with chemical weapons ! This wouldn't be too difficult to implement since they are allowing their weapons and mortars to be taken by the Ukraine resistance.

    • @spiffingbooks8028
      @spiffingbooks8028 2 года назад

      @@ianc4901 Sadly I suspect this is one type of false flag operation that may well be being considered. Bringing it up at the UN may well be the precursor as pointed out (even) by the Albanian Ambassador to the UN. It would do a lot to sure up domestic support for the war and could also be used as potential pretext for China to come to Russia's aid and supply missiles and other things they are short of.

    Excellent video! My take from it is that a coup against Putin is pretty unlikely, which is depressing. The only chance I see is that the Russian losses in Ukraine might become so extreme that a large proportion of the rank and file military just refuse to continue, whatever the coercion. In which case, the military campaign would collapse, leading to Putin being regarded as failure - and failed leaders in Russia are unlikely to survive for long,
    How many losses will break the camel's back? Who knows. At the time of writing there are at *least* 60,000 Russian troops out of action (dead, wounded, captured, surrendered or deserted) - based on British intelligence estimates of 15,000 dead and an assumed 3:1 ratio of wounded to dead. The Ukrainian figures - 22,000 dead - would put the total figure of those troops now out of action at 88,000, but this is likely to be an exaggeration.
    However, I suspect the Ukrainian figures to be somewhat more accurate than the British estimates, so if we split the difference, we arrive at 74,000 now out of action.
    Certainly Putin is afraid of the Russian people knowing the true scale of losses, which is why almost news about these is suppressed in various ways inside Russia.

      I am wondering, however, what influence foreign powers might have on Russia's trajectory and the fate of the world. Putin is clearly a threat to all living things. How does the world best deal with this paranoid & destructive head of state who has his fingers on the nuclear buttons?

As a result, I wouldn't be surprised if things go down the drain much quicker for Putin than our logic - however great - dictates.

I also would like to hear your opinion about China in this and their (I think) opportunity to act as peacebroker. Now all communication lines to Putin are broken, should we put our hope on China. -what is the difference between today's Russians and 1917 Russians? What has to happen to get the population to similar emotions as 1917?
    -if there is a regime change how the new regime can justify to the population? Especially if it happens after the 85% feels the pain of the sanctions?

    Excellent analysis. I wonder if Putin is ill ? Some neurologists in our local hospital thought he had a degenerative neurological condition based on what they saw of his behaviour. Might steroid use or illness explain the change in decision making along with the extreme lengths to avoid infection he goes to, if he has serious co-morbidities ?

    *New here* - watched the previous vid and this was an apt follow on. My hope is that there is a functioning, intelligent and autonomous chain of command between Putin and that red button. There was one during the Cuban missile crisis but regardless, ONE refusal to act on an 'illegal order' could spark a chain reaction - not a nuclear one but one that prevents planetary disaster, if not extinction. My hope is that that could embolden others to contain and isolate Putin, if emasculation and decapitation (metaphorically!) is not possible. The Chinese regime could play a significant part in this through back channels. Escalation is not in their immediate interests. I believe that they are a little embarrassed and irritated with Putin's misadventure and biting off more than he can chew. China's Xi is looking forward to the Centenary of the Chinese Communist Party, his anointment (confirmation?) as President for Life and to be recognised as a significant political, and not just economic, power on the global stage. China is strong on a long view and more prepared to bide its time. Putin in this context, is the errant younger cousin who is caught up in a bar brawl and pleading for help. They own the bar, possibly the brewery and don't welcome the publicity. It's bad for business.

    If ONLY we had such a thrilling and engaging history teacher at school!!!
    The big wide eyes and the glorious cultured tones - replete with the precision rolled "R" s and the rich and voluptuous voiced fricatives - that's the "s" in "pleasure" to you and me - are a soundscape and delivery mechanism for the narrative as sumptuous as high Mediaeval embroidery👍❤🤣
    As for the Byzantine intricacies of the Russian court - an entirely appropriate and fitting descriptor of the Politburo and truly as correct analogy as there ever was - we are led by the hand with broad strokes, as if viewing a tapestry. We can keep the full perspective in view, with just momentary pauses for a brief look at a small jewel of particular sparkle - in the form of an individual, department, or group - that illuminates the scene completely.
    Mr Vexler, I am unsure of your story, but I love it! Almost as much as "Pikovaya Dama" - I'm sure Pushkin's is good, but I'm referring to Tchaikovsky's🤣🤣❤💃💃💃 Your (former) country really is as batshit crrrraaaazy as that demented opera 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣❤❤❤

      Still want to discuss it with you Marko! The problem with evidence is that you need a picture of the regime that's accurate. I've done 4 videos on it, but I still don't think I have quite conveyed the picture. You basically have to taste it, or to be with people who have. Now of course the regime has changed so fast that things we said a few weeks ago are false. That two week gap between one kind of society and another is such a powerful lesson for Western democracies. How fast things slip.

    • @markoslavicek
      @markoslavicek 2 года назад

      @@VladVexler True, things can change rapidly these days. But more than this power dynamics, I'm more concerned about the large group of Russian population that bite onto the imperialistic/idealistic argument and get emotional and angry if challenged. These can include millions of Putin supporters regardless of what happens in the following weeks/months. Devouted followers, if you will, to use a religious terminology. Driven not by fear of Putin but by hate towards West.

    • @VladVexler
      @VladVexler  2 года назад +1

      @@markoslavicek I think the key technical challenge now, not my area, is to get good information to millions of Russians. The regime still haven’t shut RUclips because they are a bit concerned that may be too rapid and abrupt. 100 million Russians use RUclips.
