One aspect about the Beretta 1301 that I love is it's deceptively small size. When many people first see a 1301, they initially think it's an SBS (Short Barreled Shotgun) because it looks so short. Beretta has managed to make the barrel on the 1301 look shorter then it actually is. Add this to it's light weight and features, and you've got an Awesome shotgun.
The reason the 1301 "looks" shorter when compared to other shotguns is it's shorter LOP, not any type of "smoke and mirrors" magic on the visual aspect of the barrel.
@@kwb377 well and also the much longer foregrip/rail that covers that barrel, the m4 has a very short LOP also however doesn't get confused as a SBS compared to the beretta
It looks like it has a shorter receiver than most shotguns, which probably helps. If you ever see an 18 inch double or single barrel, they look almost *too* short. But that's just because they have very short receivers which lends themselves to a short overall length.
Love my Beretta 1301! It’s been 100% reliable with every type of ammo and is the bella of shotguns. The Nordic tube extension is a must! The Magpul stock is much better than the pistol grip one from Mesa Tactical.
To maintain 922r compliance, make sure that the follower is also changed out. Look up what the feds consider to be okay and not. You'll see that just adding the extension can land you into hot water.
I never knew anything about Beretta shotguns until I switched from my browning xs skeet to a Beretta urika al391... their line of autoloaders are absolutely amazing!!
@@contractzero1194 I don't have much experience with their pistols but definitely wouldn't hesitate owning one. I have around 5000 rnds through my shotgun and it runs flawless. @@bluejaysfan965 I handled the M4 while deciding. It’s very cool and obviously a proven weapon. It felt too big/bulky to me. The 1301 is sleek, short, easy to wield. Plus it has the fastest trigger system there is. It’s super smooth and comfortable. It’s about $500 cheaper, though the 1301 is still expensive. I didn’t care about the price, I just bought what I liked best. Let us know what you pick up!

I had been looking for an M4 for about a year, and six months ago I finally gave up and “settled” on a 1301. Mine came from the factory with the extended magazine and QD clamp at the front. I was a little disappointed that I was having to settle until about 2 seconds into shooting it and realized just how fantastic it is. I recently (Friday) found an M4 at my usual gun shop for sale, and really didn’t have any buyers remorse. Really impressed with just how good this thing is.
Great review! I have a Benelli M4 and I tell everyone that asks which one I would go with that if I didn't already have a M4 that I would go with a 1301. You can't lose either way but you can buy a lot of ammo with the price difference. They are both fantastic shotguns. The only problem is availability...

The BLink action has been around for awhile, actually. I’ve used a beretta a40 for duck hunting-the a400 is the second iteration of the BLink I think- and I’ve dropped it in the mud way too many times and I’ve never had a malfunction. It’s a phenomenal system and it’s super easy to work on/clean. It’s comparable to a short stroke piston or a gas tappet system in terms of both disassembly and operation. It’s one of my favorites and I think it’s a real contender against the benelli
Only time I ever had an issue with my A-400 was the first couple hundred rounds due to cycling issues, but it was the water foul model that could shoot 3 1/2" shells and I was using it to shoot sporting clays. Long story short the issue was due to light loads in a gun that wasn't broken in yet and since then I have never had an issue with it and love my A-400.
I have the Beretta 1301 in FDE. It is a fantastic shotgun that has yet to malfunction. GG&G makes tube extensions, followers and adapters for the Magpul SGA stocks.
I have a Benelli. We have the M4s in the Marine Corps. I am now looking into getting the Beretta 1301. From what I've seen I may just like this better than the Benelli 1014 (M4). Time will tell.
Get the LTT 1301, worth the effort and wait. Got mine over a year ago and had to wait 6months before I got it. Fell in love with it after the MrGunsNGear review two years ago.
I’ve been using Beretta competition guns for years, 1301FP, 390’s and the A400. They all have been wonderful high mileage guns. My A390st has fired at least a house worth of ammo through it without any parts breakage. Everything from lightweight bird shot to slugs. No issues. Has killed everything from clay through deer. If the new 1301 is anywhere near as durable it will give the Benelli a run for its money.
I trained for two decades on the 870 SBR with ghost rings on a Wilson combat timed with accuracy with slugs, including a combat load to throw in from the belt. That also was 00 buck shot. The training is there which led me get the Mossberg 830A1when it came out as I love ghost rings. I modified the hell out of it over the years.
What mods have you done on your 930? I have a 930spx and the aftermarket options seem pretty limited aside from sling mounts. Magpul thinks they're herporrheaids, I guess ..
Beautiful shotgun. If I hadn’t already blown my shotgun budget on an M2 I would buy one. The M2 is the easiest shotgun to clean ever. My former home defense shotgun was my duck and goose gun, an Ithaca 37 for which I bought an aftermarket riot barrel. Love my old Ithaca, smoothest pump action you can imagine.
Here's why you care about that bolt being faster: because it's *lighter.* And the reason why you care about it being lighter is because it will cycle grossly weak 12 gauge shots that the M4 won't. It also translates into a touch less kick against you, because the mass of the bolt is a contributing factor on a shot-to-shot basis. Also, we're not humping these on a 5-mike through dusty environments. The M4 may be battle-proven -- I'm not arguing that -- I'm arguing that in the conditions we're going to be using our shotguns, the extra 'beef' of an M4 is a detriment, not a benefit. To that end, the 1301 is winning competitions, and the M4 is rarely even used. But if you examine what wins a competition, you'll see that it has a lot do with what wins a gun-fight: _it's the _*_first_*_ to put metal on target._ ... and that's where the 1301 outshines the M4, as proven by competitions.
I was under the impression that what made the m4 so cool was it’s self regulating gas system that allows it to even shoot underpowered less lethal rounds without having to change how it’s gassed. I agree that the lighter carrier helps the beretta, but I don’t think it’s necessarily an issue for the m4
So basically if I want a comp shotgun, go 1301. If I want a reliable combat shotgun, go M4. Got it. And the M4 can shoot lighter loads, as well. I have both and have had no issues.
Oh man I'm pumped for this one. I have an m4, it's undeniably great and is the gold standard for a reason, but I also have an LTT 1301 and so far it's every bit as good. I love them both. It's nice to see the 1301 getting some love.
@@wcsdiaries I haven't put them through enough torture to be able to declare a winner with reliability, they've both been essentially flawless. During the first 100 or so rounds with the m4 I ran some light Target loads as fast as I could, and it choked a couple times, but it's run everything else flawlessly. The 1301 has run everything, even light rounds during the break in period. I have full confidence in both. I do find the 1301 is easier to operate with it's superior controls - @garand was absolutely correct regarding the controls. There's nothing wrong with the m4's controls, the 1301's are just better. If better controls make the shooter more reliable, then I suppose the 1301 is arguably more reliable? I think if I'm in my home, I choose the 1301 and if I'm outdoors I grab the m4. Also, the mlok hand guard on my 1301 makes mounting accessories much easier than on the m4. Hopefully this helps.
@@wcsdiaries that's a good question, I'm not sure. I bought my 1301 with all the bells and whistles/upgrades from Langdon tactical about 6 months ago, and they're supplied directly by Beretta so I'd assume it's the most recent generation.
@@wcsdiaries also watch tfbtv review the 1301 if you have a chance. I think the consensus is that nobody is ready to say it's better than the m4, but a lot of people are comfortable calling them peers, and it's a much better value. That being said, if it's truly a defense scenario, I don't care about cost.
After watching several videos on tactical shotguns in my pre purchase research it was this excellent video that convinced me the Beretta 1301 was the gun for me. I purchased one two weeks ago taking time to set it up with red dot, light, sling and ammo cards I finally got it to the range today and this gun is an absolute Beast ran 100% with 5 different types of ammo it was the most fun I have had in a long time. Thanks for this great video review!
Got one in FDE, got the mag extender and looking at more to put on. Love the gun. It’s light and easy to operate. Factory sights are accurate. Just a great gun to have.
Beretta 1301 Tactical is the best semi-auto shotgun ever made. To compare it with Benelli M4 reminds me about comparing Mossberg 590 to Remington 870. Difference in between these two pump-action shotguns are that Mossberg 500 (590) doesn’t have anything stupid on it, but Remington 870 doesn’t have anything that is not stupid. The same explanation is valid to describe differences in between 1301 and M4. Beretta factory is 498 years old factory, 441 years older than Benelli. Keep good work!
I'm not a fanboy of any particular mfr, but Beretta triggers are impecable, even out of the box. Im seriously looking at the Beretta 1301 now. Thanks GT.
@@LIONTAMER3D I gotta say, that is what I have heard. But for the decades of me shootin, I have not had the opportunity to shoot a CZ. So I must take yours and other knowledgeable/experienced folks word for it. But the Beretta trigger I know and it is sweet!
@@PraiseCaster i have a pair of cz pistols. one that i never carry, so the trigger rests @ the break, there's no "take up"; any amount of pressure will discharge the firearm. the one i do carry, i left 6mm of take up on the trigger because take up on a carry gun is essentially a safety mechanism. both triggers reset @ 4mm off the wall: fire a shot & the trigger comes out 4mm before the next shot is ready to go. it took about a year to learn to run both triggers =/
This the best firearm and shooting channel in all the ‘tube. I’m not really even much of a gun guy and I love his work. It’s super informative and crazy entertaining. Job well done my dude, job well done.
I'm a novice gun enthusiast and I recently purchased my first shotgun. I went with the Beretta 1301 tactical. The thing that most impressed me that I find is not noted in many of the reviews of this weapon I found online is the perfect weight balance that you get between the rear stock and front end of the gun. The M4, aside from it being heavier, felt top heavy toward the barrel in my hands. I think the even weight balance makes the recoil to weight ration so impressive for the Beretta 1304. It feels balanced in the hands while aiming as well. Reminds me of a mid engine Porsche. Just perfectly engineered without unnecessary bells and whistles.
I own the Langdon Tactical version of the Beretta 1301. It is a sweet shotgun, a serious fighting shotgun out of the box. Never had any issues with the shotgun. I love the gun! Cannot outrun the cycling of this gun with heavy loads double 00 buck and slugs. Excellent review!
@@brokenwrench404 No, and I have fumbled many a quad load in my attempts. I got a shell stuck once trying to ghost load but that was on me. Going to get a metal pic' rail on top. The polymer factory rail has come loose on me twice in 600rounds over two years.
Been waiting for this review for months and it definitely lived up to my expectations! I've had my Beretta 1301 for almost 2 years now and haven't had any issues. One of my favorite guns in the collection!
I just picked a 1301 up a couple months ago and I love it. With the magazine extension Ive found that shells that dont allow you to load a full 7 in the tube you can get the shell in 90% of the way in and it shucks the 7th shell into the gate for an easy ghost load

As a motorcycle rider I always went with the Italian Alpinestars boots for both dirt and street, but a lot of those are made in Asia now. The Gaerne’s are still made in Italy and I can see the difference in the stiching and attention to fit in the lining. Alpinestars are still pretty good.
I have one. I like it a lot. Only my coach gun “cycles” faster. The Bennelli is probably better for issuing to crayon eaters who’ll use it as a tent stake or baseball bat between firefights. The 1301 is better for civilians like myself who will mostly only be the scourge of paper, cardboard, cans, bottles, and steel plates.
Love my 1301. Light to heavy loads it eats everything. The bolt release on the second gen is good to go. The magpul stock is a must. Aridus And GG&G both make good stock adaptors.
Everybody complained about the first gen bolt release but I actually like it because I can unload the magazine at lightning speed. I've never accidentally pressed the rear of the bolt release and had them all fly out during competition, but I guess some people have. I only shoot clays though, maybe if you're running and gunning and crawling around, then it could be a problem.
Loved this review, I've been in love with the M-4 forever I just couldn't afford one. After watching this I have complete faith that the 1301 is a VERY capable AND affordable shotgun. Oh, also thank you I love your videos.
Its still above 1 grand so its not exactly affordable. If you can buy this which is $1500 then there shouldnt be any problems buying the m4 which is only a couple hundred more…
I watch the first few minutes every morning for my morning motivation. The music goes great with it. Love this channel just need a little more MOJO mixed in. You two are awesome and entertaining together!!
Tried the competition version of this shotgun. The action is amazingly smooth. Definitely recommend it to anyone interested in a good semi auto shotgun
I've been seriously considering the Beretta 1301 because of the gun laws here in New York, by my interpretation, it's one of the few semi-auto shotguns that isn't banned.
I've been waiting for this one for quite a while. And I would have to give the Langdon Tactical version of the Beretta 1301 the nod. I have an LT Elite 92 and am confident that LT provides an exceptional shotgun here.
@@ignis_infinitus_infernus Absolutely, it's basically the same shotgun at a cheaper price with no sacrifice in quality imo. You will not be disappointed with it.
@@hoffmiermp It makes you wonder why(from a business perspective) Beretta would undercut/cannibalize their Benelli M4 sales with the 1301, as the M4 has a higher price point yet the cheaper 1301 delivers nearly identical performance.
@@JJW3 I wouldn't say undercut/cannibalize sales per say. It was a matter of time before the patent ran out and others start following suit on a platform that flat out works. Hell, even the turks came out with a wanna be "turkelli" and I have some serious reservations about that shotgun.
@@hoffmiermp yeah!!! James Reeves of "TFB TV" had just done a torture test video on the "Turknelli", and while he was in the middle of firing it, it jammed a couple of times. so this made me think, that the Turks made it with cheaply made parts and whatnot.
I just bought the berretta a400. It's the same design with all the same controls on a waterfowl gun. It makes loading with heavy gloves on way easier. The biggest difference is it has berretas kickoff system in the stock so I'd be interest to see if it is even softer recoiling.
I own 2 of the A400 models and a 1301 comp. If we are splitting hairs the 1301 is the same design as the A300. The A400 is a 3.5" receiver, A300 is 3".
Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹 I'm in high-level protection, and the 1301 offers an extremely rare opportunity own a phenomenal weapon at a fantastic low price: it could be priced a lot closer to the Benelli M4 (also owned by Baretta).. it's faster than the M4 (you can't out-run it), fasts reloads are a LOT easier than the M4 (especially as you avoid the M4 issue of getting your thumb busted), has Barreta quality, handles all loads effortlessly and is significantly cheaper. It's more streamlined shape allows for more snag-free deployment. The M4 however, is sexier. Thanks for the great video..
I like the way you drilled down on the differences between the shotguns, individual features, and the drawbacks or superiority of one design over another. As I'm in the market for a combat shotgun, I'd like to get the best I can get. This is probably the most well-done video I've seen in feature comparison, with the explanations of why they matter, and I can tell by your familiarity with the firearms that you've shot them both extensively, which makes all the difference. Thanks for that.
As usual another great and entertaining review. I've got the original 1301 comp pro and am very happy with it. I have the kick-off dampening system in the stock. It's lite weight and takes away some of thump from big loads.
I have been wanting this shotgun since I first laid eyes on it shortly after it's release. And after doing some other research, I specifically held out until flannel daddy did a review..and now it has come. I guess I'll be getting it after all haha
3:18 “Now, why do we keep talking about shotguns? Well, because we’re obsess with them, cause we’re American, and there’s nothing more American than Americans using shotguns.” Greatest thing I’ve ever heard from Garand Thumb, that’s true. That’s the facts 🖨 🇺🇸
There is a Winchester low recoil low noise round I use in cowboy action shooting that is like 950 fps. My M2 will not cycle it reliably (about 50%). But that is the only commercial load it won’t reliably cycle. It will cycle even the “low recoil target loads.”
This guy is making content. Why is there hate because of what he's wearing? Getting to see th "italian Stallion" in action from all these great angles is a huge plus+, and he makes it interesting to watch.
I had a nightmare with my 1301. Out of the box, the barrel was not aligned correctly in the barrel extension such that the front sight post was off to the side and the the mag tube and barrel were not parallel. The gas block being twisted was my biggest concern as the piston would not ride properly on the mag tube, causing it to wear faster. Beretta said it had to go back for warranty repair so I ship it off to them. Eight months and lots of phone calls later, they tell me it needs a new barrel…well Duh, I could have told them that. Next problem is that barrels are on back order. Four months later, yeah, that’s right, a year after shipping it back, I get it back, open the box, and the alignment is even worse than with the original barrel (that I had asked to get back since it had the original serial number, but they kept it). Back on the phone and this time they agree to let me keep the gun and just send me a new barrel. A month or so later I get another barrel, slap it in, and the sight post is welded to the end of the barrel off center…at least the gas block is aligned correctly so I don’t feel bad shooting it. Back on the phone with Beretta again and another barrel is on the way. I get the next barrel a month later, throw it in, and finally everything is aligned correctly. Never mind that the end of the sight post looks like it was struck with a chisel several times and some dimpling on the inner surface of the post that looks like someone put a bar in there to twist it. At least everything is straight now. Anyways, four barrels and 14 months later, my 1301 is fixed as much as it’s going to get. So check your 1301 for proper alignment. Take off the fore-end, flip the gun over, and look to make sure the mag tube is parallel with the barrel, and check that your front sight post is vertical. I went to Scheel’s in Sparks, NV where they had at least a dozen 1301s on racks such that anyone could pick them up and inspect. Out of the dozen there, at least half had a front sight post that was not vertical. I couldn’t tell without taking the fore-end off, but I imagine several of those also had the gas block twisted to the side such that the barrel and mag tube were not parallel.
I have the competition version, which I chose because I’ve been shooting flying targets for a long time, so I’m very comfortable running a bead sight. Easily my favorite shotgun.
same here. not to mention the extra 5.5" inches of barrel doesnt hurt, you get more capacity with extension tubes and a longer bead. I saw a guy with a 1301 tac and a 11 shot extension past the barrel and had a laugh.
I have shot a beretta a300 for waterfowl for years… I clean it once a season I don’t care how muddy or filled with branches and shit it gets. My gun has never once jammed (except for feeding turkey loads). On every hunt I have been on, guys running benelli super black eagles have issues and spend 15-20 minutes trying to fix their gun every hunt. I know there is obviously a lot of differences between hunting and tactical shotguns, however, I’m extremely impressed with my beretta a300. I prefer shooting it over my browning Maxus any day. I’ve literally shoved bean stalks behind the bolt and shot it just to prove to my friends it cycle through anything.
This thing loaded like a Krag-Jørgensen. Really neat and simple Idea. Allows you to keep loading one by one but also keeping the mag tube loaded till you really need to unless he’ll much like the krag.
Thanks for the great video! The Benelli 1301 Tactical is designed for acceptable felt recoil using low recoil loads from 1200 to 1325 fps. The lightweight allows you to put 12 rounds on the shell carriers, a light, a red dot and a sling on the weapon without the overall weight being burdensome.
The 1301's bolt release also obviously has a lever attached to it, which gives you more strength/leverage to actuate it if you press down on the far end of the lever, which I presume makes it very EASY to release the bolt! That's excellent.
To compete with the benelli you have to get all the LTT upgrades, and by that point, you're already paying the same amount (or more if you want to mount an optic).
I realize the video came out a while ago I watch on TV instead of computer. Just want to say this video is so well done the camera angles, the shooting closeups, and the music selection awesome! Out of all the videos I have watched on your channel this one and the C96 Mauser? The one with the German solider re-enactors was also my favorite. But this one is my favorite to watch. Keep making videos in this style you guys rock! And yes my son is buying a 1301 before I do 🥲
I love my Benelli M2. All I did was put a 10 round tube, improved lifter, enlarged bolt handle and release and a flashlight on it. I am a fan of the M4 and the Beretta as well but have found that my M2 is more versatile when it comes to being useful for hunting too by throwing on a 26" barrel. Being a poor slob I have to always consider how versatile my kit is.
@@jasminebebe3455 someone above just said it's only for the competition versions that you can swap barrels. Maybe in the future. That would really make it a do it all.
@@tec2388 oh yeah, I do a little light skeet shooting using the Full breacher Choke with mine haha. It runs flawlessly with any round I've ever put through it. I've also ran 2k rounds through mine without cleaning in 2 years and it still runs great. I made a video about mine too actually.
Fun-fact: The Langdon Tactical Beretta 1301 with gray Magpul furniture was featured in Chris Prat's most recent movie, The Tomorrow War. Why am I saying this? Because that movie is what introduced me to this shotgun. And since then I have wanted one. Dang it Garandthumb, now I can't get one of these for a long time, because you made a great video on it. Lol.
I paid 650.00 for my brand new gen 1 1301 tactical when the gen2s hit the shelves. I upgraded it like the Langdon except I kept the original handguard. I have a streamlight mounted and a switch mounted to the handguard. I sent 9.00 to fix the bolt release not that it ever bothered me but now it's larger and won't induce the malfunction that some had. I love my 1301 and it has never malfunctioned even with cheap low brass birdshot.
If I didn’t already have a Benelli M4, I’d get one of these. I’m jealous that you can put a Magpul stock on that. If that’s the Italian Stallion, the Benelli is Clubber Lang. “What’s your prediction for the fight?” “Pain”

INtro song name?

Good intelligent comment and absolutely accurate.
So get the 1301 over the M4 if you want subsonic shells?
People sleeping on the M2 though...
Which is more reliable? If you could take 1 to war which is better?

I'm in high-level protection, and the 1301 offers an extremely rare opportunity own a phenomenal weapon at a fantastic low price: it could be priced a lot closer to the Benelli M4 (also owned by Baretta).. it's faster than the M4 (you can't out-run it), fasts reloads are a LOT easier than the M4 (especially as you avoid the M4 issue of getting your thumb busted), has Barreta quality, handles all loads effortlessly and is significantly cheaper. It's more streamlined shape allows for more snag-free deployment. The M4 however, is sexier.

Great review, informative and well-structured. What a nice firearm it is.
Stay away Beretta 1301 Tactical , people overrated ??? see Update: Beretta 1301 Tactical (Beretta customer service is crap).
I just grabbed one today and you're the first video to pop up. I couldn't be more pleased.

This is the best shotgun out there imo. I love B M4s (or Panzer M4 clones) but this is my favorite 😍
what is intro song name
Allows you to keep loading one by one but also keeping the mag tube loaded till you really need to unless he’ll much like the krag.
sonng name intro
Thanks for the great video! The Benelli 1301 Tactical is designed for acceptable felt recoil using low recoil loads from 1200 to 1325 fps. The lightweight allows you to put 12 rounds on the shell carriers, a light, a red dot and a sling on the weapon without the overall weight being burdensome.
The what? . . .
@@RBGBaldy🤷🏻♂️🙃
That intro made the whole video... we thank you good sir 👍🏽🤌🏾👌🏽
The 1301's bolt release also obviously has a lever attached to it, which gives you more strength/leverage to actuate it if you press down on the far end of the lever, which I presume makes it very EASY to release the bolt! That's excellent.
So ng name intro?
To compete with the benelli you have to get all the LTT upgrades, and by that point, you're already paying the same amount (or more if you want to mount an optic).
but wouldn't that be a factory benelli? You'd have a gucci'd out 1301 at that point.
How does a factory Beretta not compete with a Benelli?
That intro was mint. The editing, angles music - all of it.
I'm 70 and still thought it was quite impressive. Definitely well done!
The Beretta 1301 is like Thors hammer. It's perfect
And yes my son is buying a 1301 before I do 🥲
Just bought one today. Thank you for the review, brother.
I think you can get longer barrels for the 1301 too.
@@ShooterMcGottem Good info. I doubt I will ever get rid of my M2 but that would certainly make it more versatile than the M4.
@@tec2388 awww no fun.
Love the Langdon Tactical...It seriously just runs and runs, super fast action.
Absolutely love my 1301. Trust it with my life.
Lol.
The entire movie was great, but the weapons choices had me yelling at my TV. That said, the 12ga is the only weapon that made sense
Beretta 1301 Tactical is in Chris Pratt’s new show ‘Terminal List’
“What’s your prediction for the fight?”
“Pain”
