Fallout 4 VR is NOT an Absolute Nightmare - This Is Why

- Опубликовано: 17 сен 2024
- The sequel to Fallout 4 Is An Absolute Nightmare - This Is Why. In this week’s episode I fill Fallout 4 VR with mods and talk about why it isn’t actually that big a Nightmare. Still the biggest PC VR game out until next week’s PC release of Skyrim VR (which will be my next This Is Why review!)
I shy away from the glitches in this video and talk about all the things Bethesda did to take a non-VR title and turn it into actually a rather solid port, and now with a big of modding support it is looking even better.

This Fallout VR video lists all the best parts of Fallout 4 VR including the general combat mechanics, the changes to the V.A.T.S system, and the use of the Pip-Boy. After this video it looks like I may be done with Fallout 4 for a while, I will return to Fallout though when I come back to review every single Fallout game, but that is a while away. For now I will focus on VR games within my Absolute Nightmare/This Is Why series.
As a note though many of the complaint I made in my last Fallout 4 VR Is Not An Absolute Nightmare - This Is Why video have been addressed and mostly fixed since the most recent patch for the game. Modding the game also works excellently and allows us to make the game look a lot prettier.

I do especially like how you can throw yourself through locked doors or windows in VR. I can't count the number of times I've encountered a locked bunker or cage, been stumped by the expert lock and just head butted my way inside, since the game can't slide you back if you move too fast.
3:46 he probably said that before Duke nukem forever came out
Can you throw objects at people when they're in your hand and are they able to do damage?
Basically my question is can I play the entire game by throwing sh** at people?
Yes and no. With enough force, nearly every physics object in Fallout 4s engine can deal at least some damage. The thing is, we're talking ludicrous force requirements. Like, fat man projectile force. You would basically need to be an MLB pitcher, and even then, the vive might not track speeds that fast. Possible within the game's engine? Yes. In reality? Doubtful.
So what you're saying is I need to go Full Asura's Wrath instead.

I was about to respond with a joke about jamming 400 Psycho needles into my arm, but actually, I'm wondering if Jet could help by... sort of artificially speeding up the speed at which I can throw things by slowing everything else down relatively?

"WHAT!
You like Fallout 4? But its the worst thing to happen since the Bubonic Plague! Bethesda are evil corporate dicks and ruined Fallout!" -(This is sarcasm, in case you can't tell.)
Its good to see someone reasonable. Who can enjoy F4 despite (and acknowledge) its faults and not act like its existence is a crime against humanity.
Matthew Hilliker Balanced responses are hard for some people, personally I enjoy the game up to a point, but often feel it could be doing more than it does.
It's that feeling of missed potential that bothered me.
That said, Bethesda always has good exploration and environment design with contextual story telling, I could spend hours exploring and ignoring the story entirely and have a great time.
Yeah I totally agree with that.
I just hate this narrative that the community has written about Bethesda.
They make ONE game that is lower quality than their previous game and the fanbase turns on them like pack of rabid dogs.
Matthew Hilliker True. Fan bases are unfortunately fickle though.
Part of that I blame in the hype culture that swells up on the games release and the built up expectations. When people are disappointed in the game, that investment they put into their imagined perfect game sours and results in a lot of malcontent, because all that emotional investment has to go somewhere and for many that gets vented publicly online.
That's part of it I think. The more it's built up, the greater the inevitable hate.
Now I do think there were some problems with the overall game design that Bethesda chose to make. ( Notably the lessened emphasis on traditional RPG mechanics native to Fallout ) This quite justifiably caused a lot of the backlash. It's not unreasonable to anticipate the return of familiar game play.
But I genuinely have hope that Bethesda will realise that moving away from those mechanics wasn't what fans wanted, and will reintroduce them. Or they may double down and keep pushing people away? Who knows.
Yeah I don't think Fallout 4 could have ever lived up to the hype, even if it was more like the previous games.
I mean they announced the game only a few months before release and the hype STILL grew to unimaginable levels.
Now Bethesda is in a pickle.
Many older fans were disapointed with F4.
However MANY new fans were brought into the series because of F4
Now they have to chose who to please. New or Old Fans.
Personally I like both styles of play.
I like the action orientated F4 and the RPG focused F3/NV
So no matter which direction they go I'll still be a fan so long as they keep the spirit of Fallout alive.
Matthew Hilliker How about both? Just take the writers of Obsidian and put them in charge of the story! There's no shame in that, they can do it!

The best part to me is that it is playable, fully, without teleporting. I hate teleport moving in VR so much I have played some games an thought "everything about this is so much fun except that so i guess im never playing it again". More vr games, less teleporting.
The teleporting is a lot more immersive then the other movement option
You do realize that teleporting is for people new to VR, right? Locomotion takes a while to get used to, you can't just throw people into a game when they haven't experienced locomotion yet, or are not ready for it yet. Almost every game has multiple movement options (other than the shit PSVR that literally cannot handle locomotion).

@Mi Ke Eh I thought it was a good fallout game, not sure why people didn't like it.
The settlment building system blew me away and I love that they brought back random encounters, and the radiant quests kept you traveling to keep the scenery changing and keep things interesting.
lobo solitario many said it wasn’t a good fallout game because it didn’t have a branching storyline like new Vegas. For example, in New Vegas one of the first quests is to either defend a town from raiders, but you have the choice to help the raiders attacking the town also. In fallout 4 the raiders who are attacking Preston are instantly hostile towards you so you only have one choice-help Preston. There was a RUclips who made a great video on it. Personally, fallout 4 is still my favorite fallout game. I couldn’t stand the gun mechanics in fallout 3 and I love the building in fallout 4. I strongly believe that if you buy fallout 4’s gun mechanics, building, and graphics and combined them with fallouts 3’s story, you would have an amazing game. I will find the video I was talking about and link you to it.
@@RiloKen No branching storyline?? But you can choose several different factions to end the game with right?
lobo solitario yes, but you don’t have the extra freedom of choice (people marketed essential, having to destroy the railroad in both the institute and bos endings, etc.) like you did in new Vegas. Again, I still love Fallout 4.
12:59 Yeah this is true. Ace Combat 7's VR mode was really sickenig at first because the planes handle the same way they do in the base game but once I had played it enough I had gotten used to the movements and so I can do barrel rolls whilst focusing on a jet ez pz.

You know, he's not wrong. This VR version of Fallout 4 has it's flaws, but it's true that delayed games turn out far better than games that were rushed the entire way. Maybe all we need to do is step back and let the developers get the job done at a proper pace and send ideas and support as we see fit. Besides, VR is a rather advanced frontier with great potential for gamers, but we need to learn about this frontier before we can ever expect to make use of it.
Hope this helped! 👍🏻
Will Raptorclaw Yes, we need to spread this message. Video games are not easy to make, no matter the task one has in the development process. We, sadly, are in an era of gaming where the consumers just want the game now, so much so games get rushed and early access exist as a means of getting some early money. On top of that, the consumers are not aware of how much effort is put into games and the time it takes to make a good one. To put it simply, we're spoiled. At least, that is what I think.
I've never really understood the craze for VR gaming. It's just another gimmick for game developers to get our money. VR makes it possible to make profits off of dying franchises. I also feel like it would be very unhealthy for your eyes when you stare into VR goggles for long periods of time.
Games being rushed through is exactly why consumers get sick of games so quickly. On the other hand, speeding up game production rates does create new opportunities. For example, Sims 4 has a base pack that consumers can buy. When they get tired of the base pack, they can buy expansion packs. Developers do this on purpose. I think they want their consumers to be creative about their gameplay. If the game doesn't offer you everything that you desire, there are always enhancements out there. Mods can really make gameplay fun, whether it's Sims 4, Skyrim, or Fallout 4.
Real Meme Academy, whether the VR headset could damage your eyes, I wouldn't think so(if you use it properly), but to know for sure you'd have to ask an ophthalmologist(eye doctor). As for Fallout 4 VR, I think games(like Fallout 4) being adapted for VR is a good sign of reputation for Bethesda(I mean seriously, do you really think a greedy company would have the popularity and the resulting wealth to fit a console/PC game to VR? I mean that VERY expensive! Not only that, but if their only concern is profit, then why on Earth are they taking so long and probably working themselves to death just to make an already popular game into a new project? My point is I just think we should give Bethesda and maybe some other companies a break. After all, what they do and what they specialize in isn't easy. I just believe that many don't understand the true circumstances behind what companies like Bethesda do. All we can hope to do is send ideas and support so the projects and upcoming events we favor won't fail).
Again, I hope this helped. 👍🏻
*Will Raptorclaw* I guess you are right. Bethesda wouldn't be spending so much of their time and money into a project like Fallout 4 if they didn't expect exponential profit from an already thriving franchise. In my honest opinion, Fallout 4 overall was great, but the storytelling really was lacking in substance. That would be enough to turn me off of any game. They did do a good job though depicting the problem of tragedy of the commons(like any other Fallout game, but definitely more immersive). The problem is that they tried to tackle too many substories. I just wish some of the stories of the characters in Fallout 4 had more depth.

9:27 What happened there???? That wasn't the same music from before!
What was the music before?
@@haydensayles7543 It was this ruclips.net/video/iik25wqIuFo/видео.html
IT'S CURDLED
I felt you dropping your headset on a visceral level
God
Relatable, too
Also, this video's title (implying it'll mostly be about positives rather than negatives) is why it took me 4 months to give in and watch it, so... Ya definitely onto something in the beginning there
Good vid regardless tho
I'm happy I'm not the only one who felt that drop too
I slowed it down, it looks like he pulled his hands away from it
About that Vlegs thing, I have had a very strange experience with that type of thing. I have almost never gotten seasick, VR sick, or motion sick, and my very first experience with VR was Skyrim and I barely teleported because for whatever reason my inner ear is absolutely fucked, yet sometimes when i'm walking around my house I suddenly get incredibly dizzy.
“God these guys like skulls” well you would expect that from a blown up city where corpses are pretty much everywhere
Just put reflex sights on the guns.. works a treat in vr
‘I am exceptionally British, and I am about as good with an actual gun as I am with a MILD BREEZE’ 😂😂
I called for help but i dont think anyone is coming
Do a video on Doom vr
