Sami is one of those CO's where when I play against her, she seems so OP, but when I play her, she seems weak AF. I think out of all the CO's, Sami has one of the highest skill ceilings. I for one have never felt comfortable picking her, so this video might help a bit with that.
A couple of things worth to mention. Sami is a CO that will interrupt her own captures to shoot at an oponent's capturing infantry. Don't let your opponent build up economy. You need to deny rather than cap contested properties. Think of it, Sami would rather have less income if her opponent also has less income than both of them having more income. And since she has enhanced capture points, chipped infantry (7-9 HP) used to harass will still capture in two turns. Use Double Time to keep your opponent's infantry count low, but don't rush it, it serves well as a threat. Use Victory March when in unit count lead and further expand it.
Very good point. People forget that advantages don't have to be aggressively exploited to be good - they can instead provide an oasis of calm, allowing to abandon things like caps since you can just resume them from scratch and take them so easily later on.
Wow such a great video! I love the "think of mechs as artillery" tip, it's so true. Sami mechs during COP be like Grit artillery 👀which as the opponent you def need to look out for and respect and keep the distance.
I just defeated a Max player using Andy, and the two units that had an outstanding performance were 2 mechs that didn't die and even ran out of ammo, and one of them captured the opponent's HQ!
oh hey! it's me! i feel like it's worth mentioning that Sami also gets a boost whenever indirects are better. it kinda goes with the heavy terrain thing, but Sami loves to use artillery to help offset her weakness with direct attacking units.
I love it when COs have secret sub-specialities created indirectly (hehehe, see wot i did) by their abilities. Like how Grit gets more utilities from Bombers than Max, since his fulfill a needed niche in his army, while Maxes are unnecessary when his B Copters and Tanks are so great.
Glad that you mentioned to push with Sami even if it's slow, she loses stalls so extremely hard and fast, it's unreal. A very timing focused CO, depending on progress at aleast one front.
Damn these type of videos are damn helpful. I don't play AWBW, but I'm interested at some point maybe to get into it. Reboot camp with no online rankings just means I can play for S ranks offline or mu with someone but awbw has it all for multiplayer. Got a little side tracked, but these are very informative keep it up Deejus. Im a big fan.
Good video! Another detail I would like to add is that Sami can be a bit more aggressive than most COs with the captures in the early game. If there is a lone enemy infantry or tank near a contested property, other COs need to spend some units to cover the capping infantry, or simply wait until a better moment to capture that city. But Sami can capture in that moment, since the lone unit won't be enough to delay the capture for another turn (it needs to be brougth down to 2HP to do so). The downside is the infantry will still lose HP and won't be able to capture other properties properly unless it gets enough heal, but it's something to consider to get an early income advantage or if you simply cannot cover the infantry in that moment.
Just had a sami win streak, most probably due to baboony playstyle Edit. I have noticed just how good it is to bait all the vehicles on one side only to win with the infantry in the other. She is the perfect Co for the one who loves mindgames.
I really enjoy these videos, Deej. They've helped me immensely become a better AW player. I was wondering if you would be willing to do a video in the future about using the move planner. I really like to know how the pros use it to plan their moves out. It's not that I don't know how to use it; it's intuitive, but I think I wanted to see more about how you phase your moves and predict the what the opponent is going to do, etc. The move planner can get unwieldy when trying to keep track of what moves you make on which day. Anyway, just a thought.
@@aaronrocks365 i was just playing. I don't use move planner, and generally rush my moves as though it is a live match, but that's just me disadvantaging myself. If someone wants to get more wins then taking their time and using the move planner will definitely help to achieve that! There is no wrong way to play the game. Using the move planner is the smart thing to do 👍
I think most Sami pickers are like me: They don't pick her because of infantry specialist or her cap game or victory march. They pick her because she's waifu.
Thinking of mechs as ARty was a really good way to explain how to use them. That made so much sense to me. Good video and explinations. /from a fellow Baboon ;)
This would probs be a shorter vid but I would love to see you do one for sonja as well. Obviously she isn’t viable in non fog games but would be interested to hear your thoughts on which fog maps would be beneficial for her.
You forgot to mention that Sami has more issues on air heavy maps due to Infantry sucking against Copters, and her own vehicle responses to them are a bit nerfed. You are right about how you shouldn't leave your Mechs on exposed terrain against infantry but Mechs will crush Infantry if the Infantry attacks plains to mountain or river to Mech friendly city. Doing that is a great way to get your Infantry corp depleted, especially if the Mechs belongs to Sami or Lash. Recons will get wiped out too. I even fought Mech into infantry on the central island of Falcon Field v3 with great success.
Sami vs Sensei would be interesting, Sensei powers create inf but Sami powers either block cities with +1 move or make other inf not be able to attack Sami’s inf (similar to movement cos in standard and hf)
I don't think it would be close. Even on a map with lot's of bases, few cities and no airports I think Sensei still steamrolls Sami. His day to day infantry are stronger and even on a map with few cities, his COP is going to mean he has more of them.
@@androsp9105 It's the unfortunate truth. Magicking units out of thin air for free, which can then be merged to make funding for vehicles, is just crackers for a power, and it's only *2* stars.
Yeah Sami can't keep up with Sensei's COP just churning out infantry, which are the best counter to mechs as well as Sensei copters. Sami is a slow snowball, but Sensei snowballs faster and harder since one COP feeds into the next since Sensei is taking tons of engagements with the fresh infantry.
My first Sami match was a friendly against Hawke. I did not have any fun. I could have prob interrupted my own city cap and go for a cheeky hq cap very early in the game which was only defended by one inf but I forgot to go for it bcuz I was playing a chess match at the same time. After that mistake it was literal hell. The tank interactions were so cringe
Great video! One thing you could maybe touch on is how to play her in fog. Because i don't get the 2 tier drop, the argument for that i've heard is "infantry walls are worse in fog, and you can't plan your VM as well", however imo you profit from the somewhat chaotic nature of fog, since random infantry engagements/ambushes work well for you, and i like to be able to hide my mechs in fog. Also yes, VM is harder to plan, but that goes for your opponent too. I've won a bunch of matches due to cheeky captures my opponent wasn't expecting. But maybe thats just because i find fog funnier. However i almost always pick her in low tier fog when she's avaiable(then again i pick her almost always in standard too)
How are you going to ambush enemy units with your 2 vision Infantry? 2 vision sucks so you need Recons, Tanks, and B-Copters to spot your victims, but you can't get those out early since you need to deploy transports instead to get your Mechs out to fight enemy vehicles. The build order isn't very supporting of super early seek and destroy tactics.
@@naberiusbuster3489 maybe ambush is the wrong term, i meant unexpected encounters, either directly trapping on units in forests/on cities or walking into each others vision range. It's not like your opponents infantry have more vision than yours(except sonja). And i don't mean 1 on 1 fights, which are primarily decided by first strike, my point is if e.g. both player have 2 infantry in one corner, and these meet at some point, then statistically the sami player has a better chance to win that engagement than the opponent(depending a lot on factors like first strikes and terrain), and while i dont have a spreadsheet of all possible scenarios to back this up, i'd guess sami wins around 60% of the possible cases, while her opponent loses in 40%, because she can win some fights even when the opponents get the first strike, which another CO would lose. Also i usually only build transports on bigger maps, where the advantage of one recon/tank the opponent might have more only affects one front, and my point was that you win random skirmishes on the sides where both players have little going on, which won't be the front your opponent sends his one recon he has more than you. I'm not saying sami ambushes everyone everywhere all the time, and should make that her main playstyle in fog, i'm just talking about the small uncalculated engagements between infantry on the sidelines, which happen often enough in my experience, and which the opponent would avoid in standard where he could see them coming. But maybe on higher MMRs everyone plays smarter, and this is just some nutty lower level nonsense

Yup starflash made me realise how great she is. With a comm tower, your infantry has 40% attack. You win the infantry war in the long term
The absolute denial of infantry units as starflash forced their opponent to build tanks only was shocking.
