To those who are nervous or have failed their driving exam: I am a 23 year old woman, I have always lived with an irrational fear of driving because of a really bad car wreck I got into with my mother, since then, I never wanted to learn how to drive because I was always scared of getting in a wreck. I then had to put my fear aside because I got tired of depending on other people for rides, I wanted to have my own freedom. I finally decided to learn how to drive and I did my drivers ED online. I passed my written test with a perfect score and it was time for me to schedule my road test. The first time I took it, I was so nervous I ended up failing because I was too caught up into my thoughts fearing that I would fuck up and guess what? I fucked up. The second time around I failed, I got discouraged and didn't want to try anymore. I knew I was a safe driver i just know I was never good with tests. Then I sucked it up, I scheduled my appointment for the third time and then I kept telling myself that I am a safe driver, I did make some errors because my examiner was a little intimidating but i managed to pull through. I ended up passing! I now have my drivers license and my city has a new driver. If I can do it, then you definitely can too!
Make sure you stay calm, you know you're a safe driver thats why you scheduled to take the road exam , always keep that in mind. Make sure you're not too caught up into your thoughts when driving because you'll end up losing focus and might even end up making a mistake. Don't think about messing up, because you'll only mess up. You got this!

I just took mine and am usually an extremely nervous person, however the day of my exam I did not get nervous at all which had me so shook. Here is what I did so that nerves would not get the best out of me:
-Practiced (2 weeks before my test I would go to the dmv around 3-4 times a week and I practiced parallel parking since it was what scared me the most.)
-Know the route ( there are some route videos for certain dmvs that you can look up, you might know someone that has taken the test there before so ask what roads you might take so you know the speed limits beforehand)
-Don't tell people that you are taking the test other than your parents or whoever will take you or has been helping you. (this removes you the fear of having to tell people you failed if you do happen to fail)
-Do not make plans (don't make plans with friends assuming you will pass the test because it will just add more pressure and if you don't pass first try it might feel more upsetting)
-Don't make it a big deal (try to have other plans for the day so that you are not just focusing on that test the 24/7 making you more uncomfortable)
-Don't tell your self you will pass or fail, instead tell yourself "If I pass I pass, if I don't I don't" (Remember if you fail it is not a bad thing, it is probably best because it just gives you time to practice even more and improve your driving +you will know what to practice this time.)

As long as your trust in yourself that you can drive, there's no reason for you to fail. I would’ve failed her because of her failure to stay in her own lane and being unable to reverse her car out of a parking spot. Mostly, her failure to stay in her own lane. How are you going to drive on the road if you can’t even stay in your own lane??? That’s one of the main things to work on.

  • @kamekomiyamora

I'm a newly licensed driver but even I think this examiner is too nice. For one, we don't know if the driver would have turned her signals on on her own if not without the coaching. Rolling stop signs are also bad. Stalling, driving too slow, etc are also concerning. I get being nervous and wanting to comfort her (especially to avoid a crash), but confidence and the ability to drive on your own are essential imo.

  • @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley

Yikes, that should have been a fail all the way 😨. This is how we get extremely dangerous drivers on the road who harm or nearly harm others. She could barely keep the car in her lane, rarely stopped at stop signs (my own issue when I took mine the 2nd time), missed directions and was extremely nervous to where I'd be concerned with them driving on the road alone just yet. This instructor was sweet...too sweet. So therr has to be a middle ground, not someone who's impatient, and not someone who babies the driver and gives a pass with so many errors being made.

While the driver has a lot of potential, she needs more practice. While she was very nervous with anxiety (very understandable), she had trouble reversing, rolling through 4 stops, making wide turns, and missing the right turn at the end. I thank God for the patient examiner though who is an angel. I am glad she had her license, but I hope she used it by practicing regularly. God Bless.

I'm just shocked that she made it all the way to taking her driver's test without knowing how to put the car in reverse? If I did that where I live, I'd immediately fail. They wouldn't have even let me leave the parking spot. 😨😨

I mean if you can't put your car in reverse you probably can't get out of the spot lol

I feel like this examiner would be an amazing drivers ed instructor, wish they were my instructor for drivers ed, I would have been less traumatized and learned a lot more if the instructor I had was like this examiner, clear instructions, not yelling at the student or saying how bad they are for making mistakes.

There should be a balance. An instructor should be nice, but also firm if the driver makes a critical error. They’re human too so they have emotions because their safety is in the driver’s hands. They shouldn’t yell, but if they’re too nice like this lady was, they’ll put unprepared drivers on the road. Not good...

I had took my test last week and passed with only one week of practice driving, and the only advice I could give you is to be patient with yourself and don’t rush anything while you’re driving. Focus more on learning how to turn the wheel and parallel parking and you’ll pass without question. And lastly, be confident in your decisions and come with an amazing, RESPECTFUL attitude. If you have any questions please don’t be shy to reply under my comment.

They keep drifting and are too close to the yellow line and it kept making me nervous 😭😭 especially when they made the right turn and they went over the line because they didn’t whip the wheel fast enough

To all those who have their test upcoming: I was nervous too! Very, BUT at the right moment my nervousness turned into,”let’s show em what I got” mentality and I nailed the test. Just trust your training and try to replicate it in your test and the rest of the things will take care of themselves. Good luck
