When Steve was 12 he toured with a lot of the great American blues men as he was one of the only people in England who could play a Hammond Organ which he used to play in his elder brother Muff Winwood's Jazz band.

Great album. Amazing that all the instruments were played by three guys. Jim Capaldi played all the percussion, Chris Wood played all the horns, and Winwood played everything else.

Low Spark of High Heeled Boys is almost a religious experience.

Don't forget to add that Steve had an excellent voice and was a great performer. All at 21 by the time of this album, which was a successful charting album. I first heard it many years later on rock radio because it was a staple of rock radio.

Ah, this brings back my high school music dept, this album was so popular it just sat in the dept and we hung out listening to it forever. I played sax, never as well as this, of course, but what inspiration!

I picked up this album on CD back when CD were first coming out; I was familiar with "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" and picked this up on a whim - I think it may be an even BETTER album!

Steve Winwood was and is a musical genius. Also played multiple instruments!

He was 15 when he sang his first hit. There is so much going on here. Get your mind blown.

Producer and founder Chris Blackwell later said of Winwood, "He was really the cornerstone of Island Records. He's a musical genius and because he was with Island all the other talent really wanted to be with Island."[18] The group's first record, a single, was released 10 days after Winwood's 16th birthday.

This is such a good album, used to listen to it all the time. Even though its' from the 70's, the music sounds timeless. I love Traffic; what a great band. Steve Winwood on keys, bass and vocals. Chris Wood on sax and flute. Jim Capaldi on drums.

And guys, if you've never seen the clip of Steve at 15 years old performing, check this out - ruclips.net/video/VwqsmNR_Q1M/видео.html&ab_channel=JimmyKeys
It looks like a clip from a movie or something, but it shows how incredibly talented he was at such an early age!

I hadn't listened to this in quite awhile. It is fine but to me the earlier albums were amazing with a passion and edge.
