The Best $400 I Ever Spent! - A Super Classy Mechanical Watch From Luxury Swiss Brand Omega
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 май 2017
- In today's video I review a unique and classy watch packed with character. This 1950s manual wind Omega (Ref.2496) has true vintage charm, a dial like marble, and is made by an iconic luxury Swiss brand with an in-house mechanical movement. This is the best $400 I have ever spent on a watch so far! Not only is it amazing value for money but Omega watches from this era have become increasingly fashionable after a similar reference was seen on Ryan Gosling's wrist in the 2016 Hollywood movie "La La Land".

LOL, Thank you :D

That's just like my late father's watch. he purchased it in 1952. I've had it restored at the omega factory, I absolutely love this watch.
You father had great taste.
Thank you,

Jesus Christ, the intro, the music from LA Noire and that lovely piece... Pure class, I love it. Brilliant video, thank you Tristano!
Well spotted on the music!
Thank you sir.
Best regards,
TGV
Lazar Arsović when I also first clicked on the video and hear it LA noire is the first thing that popped up my mind great game and great bideo tristano 🙂
I will play LA noire right now :D
The intro was indeed brilliant! I had a very good time watching this review and my wife appreciated the look of the dial.

My grandfather gave me his Omega of the same vintage when he was elderly as he no longer had the hand strength to wind it after multiple strokes. It was the act that got me into this hobby and for that I am grateful. They're a fantastic watch, and so loveable, but at the same time useable.
I have a Seamaster from the early 60's that looks almost identical. I got it in 1999 on ebay for 150USD (it was my first luxury Swiss watch purchase). Cheers.
Watching your videos, just getting into collecting...and I’m so excited after watching this video because I have a 1954 Omega Seamaster caliber 500 coming in the mail today! Original pie pan face...I love the 50s/60s jazz scene everything from that era exudes class and simplicity at its best. Love the channel!
The old vintage pieces are such artworks! I mean my dad gave one to me that he bought on a garage sale years and years ago. My seamaster is from the 60s and its today as beautiful as it was in the 60s
I think you've set the trend for vintage Omegas Trissty. Seeing them all over these days!
Thanks for another great video! I've had an eye on getting a vintage Omega for a while and watching this has inspired me to go searching.
Would love to see a video on recommendations for used watch vendors in different continents, for those of us trying to avoid silly shipping charges & import taxes!
Love your sweet little vintage Omega watches and I love your commentaries, awesome Channel... keep up the good work...
Vintage Omega watches have incredible movements. They are as good as Rolex movements.
Always look forward to new TUG videos, especially concerning Omegas as I've not long purchased a co-axial Seamaster Professional. Love this channel. Great close up shots and great, knowledgeable narrative. Excellent.
I've been getting a little tired of my old Tudor 7934 from the same era, but your video made me appreciate it that much once again. Cheers to you, TGV!
Another insightful video. Thank you again TGV for your honest and unbiased views.
Great video! It's cool to learn something a bit more about vintage Omegas as my parents gifted me a 1962/3 Seamaster that looks very similar to yours :)
I have a 1953 Bulova automatic that was my father's graduation present. Have it serviced and 1982 and still going strong. Also a 1950's Hamilton. I have lizard on both as well. But have a couple of NATO's for the 16mm lugs. As you would say "pure class". Both of mine have Swiss movements. The Hamilton is a 671 movement and has ETA markings. It has been a long time since I had the Bulova open, Swiss made but do not know off hand by whom.
They built them to last back then!
What a fantastic gift to mark the occasion. I hope they both bring you many more years of enjoyment.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Hi, thanks so much for this review. Its a real classic watch.I realy fell in love with it. And take care of the strap, after a few years it makes some kind of rust in peace of logs in touch.
this watch realy worth to keep with much care. Wish it last years&years for you. Thanks!!!
a watch like this has always been my dream to own, like a Vintage Seamaster Calibre 610. It's cool that you managed to get a vintage omega. Love the channel!
BEST INTRO EVER (vintage new york, la noir soundtrack...Tristano- you made my day, AGAIN!)
been teetering on the fence between a Vintage Omega DeVille and Geneve, either way I think the older pieces are beautiful. Great Vid TVG
What a beautiful watch, congrats for buying it once again. The dial aged so beautifully! A really stunning piece and great presentation as always.
Greetings from Germany,
Tobi
I'm not into musicals either and I loved La La Land. Give it a chance!
Also: watch fits perfectly with the film being a throwback to those musicals as well as a Gosling's character being a throwback himself.
I'm happy to see you enjoying an actual, pre-swatch, Omega.
Thank you, makes 2 of them now! ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
I've sent you an email titled "TGV: Fortis Review". If you're still interested in a Fortis review loaner, I'm happy to help!
Once again a great review TGV!! You truly are the best at being a horological reviewer and have the absolutely best unbiased opinions. Love this vintage piece and keep up the work! You have inspired me to purchase a vintage piece recently. Accutron 218! Love it!
The director of La La Land seems to be on a mission to revive Jazz, with this movie and his previous movie, Whiplash. ..that's a good thing. Emma Stone is talented and beautiful, too.
Great video as usual, I just purchased a manual late sixties Omega also! Loving it.
TGV! That intro made me feel like I was Robert De Niro in "Mean Streets". That Omega is Choice! You're the "Ambassador of Class" my friend, absolute beautiful piece!
Extremely flattered my friend. Big Scorsese fan so that truly means a lot.
Thank you SN,
Best regards,
TGV
Glad you just posted this video, it woke me up. I was just drooling over the marketing material for the Rolex Yacht Master 2 two-tone on this rainy day in NYC...what a stunning piece.
Thank you Joseph, nothing better then looking at watches on a rainy day, enjoy!
Best regards,
TGV
I will echo the the comments intro is just classic. Brings me back to old TV growing up having to get up and turn the dial to change the channels.... Well done great review enjoy that little gem.
Love your videos. Have purchased 3 Orients, a Seiko SKX, a Squale 1545, a Stowa Flieger, and have a Sinn 104 (white dial) on the way all because of you. Thanks man!!
OMG, the is amazing, you are going to have such fun with those!
Thank you for sharing that, very much appreciated.
Best regards,
TGV
cool watch. you do a great job of making watches fun, from the low cost ones to the heavy hitters. Keep up the hard work and thanks for the passion.
Thank you Sam, I truly appreciate that. Fun is the most important thing.
Best regards,
TGV
Hi TGV - I've been away for a while, catching up on videos. A very nice example of a 1950's Omega. I purchased a 1954 Omega Seamaster DeVille last year and absolutely love it. It's not as original as yours but none the less I adore it. Hope you are doing well. Best Regards, John
John!
I am very well thank you, I hope you are too, always great to hear from you my friend.
Enjoy the Seamaster, you can't go wrong with 50s Omega!!
Best regards,
TGV
I own a very similar Omega seasmaster (same caliber 283) that I bought last year and this review is like a dream to me!
Great video as usal :)
Nice piece, great video!
I just bought an Omega 1962 Seamaster manual the other day! They're such beautiful timepieces. The gold case, separate seconds dial, and black crocodile leather make it a thing of pure class.
Dan Lay how much did you pay.
Only $300 + shipping
Great close up shots! Stunning piece! KS
I love the fins on the Chrysler even more so than the Caddies. Virgil Exner was an amazing stylist.
Great review, as always, and you're really making me salivate over another vintage piece.
Thank you Erik,
I had to gotta love those classic cars, the modern stuff does nothing for me.
Best regards,
TGV
Your close up photography is stunning. I would love to see some shots of the movement in action
I always enjoy these. TGV you look like a thoroughly decent chap. Keep it up.
Intro is sick! Excellent work my friend.
Nice review, TGV. I have dial envy. My vintage Omega is a stainless 60's Seamaster with the legendary Cal 565 auto movement. It's my favorite dress watch but I love your gold applied markers and the Omega symbol seem more 3-D on yours. Nice!
Going to need another state of the collection soon haha lost track of all your latest purchases! Great video as always
I am indeed. Hopefully early June. Just waiting for one more piece, I always am!! ;-)
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
I inherited my grandfather's Omega, built in the 1930s. It has not been worn for 20 or so years, but watching this video, I sort of get the feeling I will get it out, serviced, put it on a vintage leather nato, and start wearing it from time to time.
Thanks for the inspiration TGV! I only started watching your videos recently, and (as many other noted also) I can say, your enthusiasm and passion just sticks like bubblegum :) Keep it up mate!
dietzelszilard and hows it running mate?
Lovely watch TGV. I have a Vintage Seamaster bumper that looks very similar and is of similar dimensions. I have a 7.25 inch wrist but I love the vintage asthetic. Congrats!
Love it. Bought a Pontiac nageur, great vintage watch from my country, Belgium. Amazing patina. It's 32mm and I'll rock it without any form of shame. I'll post it on the fb group when I'll get that special strap I bought ! Piacere, Tristano !
Please do, I would love to see it.
Thank you sir.
Best regards,
TGV
Beautiful. I have two vintage Omegas - one from each of my grandfathers. They are beautiful but need some work. Id love to show them to you some time!
gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous....no other way to describe it. as vintage lover myself i'm trully hoping your review will not shoot up the market price on ebay. hahaha. Nice video sir! Make me want to go for vintage watch hunting again right now
Great video and excellent watch with a unique appeal! Have some vintage Omegas myself and would love to add such beauty to my collection. Just one remark, it seems that at some point a new crown has been fitted which is nothing unusual for manually winding watch of this age.
Great Video as always!
Thank you Bob :D
Best regards,
TGV
I agree with you 100%. A watch with such a dial has its own character and is unique. regards
I am in love with that watch, amazing taste and choice!
Thank you Hayden.
Best regards,
TGV
Great Omega watch! Congrats for the review.
Cracking piece TGV!! So much character & Charisma!! Just cannot be beaten!! Just proves how good Omega are!! BMJ ENGLAND
Thank you for making this content. Earned a sub
Big fan of the Channel TGV. I would love to see a video about affordable world time watches. keep up the good work.
I literally just bought a 1950s OMEGA automatic with similar patina because of this awesome video, I don't know the proper terms but the seconds hand is on its own above 6, my first ever OMEGA it's a cal. 342, not sure what it means but they call it a bumper
Amazing video !!! Omega is one of my favourite brands
I am impressed with the even patina on the watch face. Very nice!
What a beautiful intro. It reminded me that I still can't believe you reached 100k. I certainly see an Omega geneve in my future.
Another terrific intro! An awesome vintage piece, especially with that old decaying dial that make it unique.
Do you mind sharing your wrist size in detail, cause it would be quite useful to know different types of watch on small wrist (which I do have as well)? Thank you
That's a gorgeous dial. Truly envious of this watch. What a find and what a great review, TGV! :D
Thank you Katrina :D
Best regards,
TGV
Gorgeous! I just got myself a 1973 ladies deville for my wife for just $135! There are some serious bargains on ebay if you know how to look
WOW, what a bargain!!!!!
Enjoy, thank you Yoel.

Good to see you have your time machine running.

Such a great piece!
TGV, I love the channel keep up the great work! Also, do you happen to know any place that services/repairs vintage Timex watches? Every place has no problem repairing Omegas and Rolexes, but no one I have found will repair my vintage Timex!
great video TGV you have really helped me to find my watch bug in vintage piece's. i hope to purchase a vintage timex soon. keep up the great work as always.
Best Regards Joseph.
Thank you Joseph, happy hunting on the Timex!

Just picked up a 64 seamaster deville for 300 with a warranty! Stoked for it to arrive
Lovely Omega! Currently trying not to slit my wrists as I await the delivery of my vintage Seamaster. The one I purchased is coming with a lovely strap but I love the black lizard looks yours has, where did you purchase that strap? Thanks!
found a vintage omega below $200. condition is the same as the above do you think it's worth it?
Well done sir! And excellent watch photography!
Thank you Steve, just saw your email BTW. Will read it shortly.
Best regards,
TGV
wow ! you respond to comments quickly! How do you do it? :)
Agree w/ everyone else here -- fantastic open! Super cool & appropriate... dig it!
Great video. I love vintage Omegas.:)
"A turn of the century Tamagotchi". Perfect! :)
Very nice TGV, I have a very similiar watch but the dial is an amazing deep transitional blue.
This is an old video, I know…
But my father, a while ago, gave me a watch almost identical to this. Caliber 283, I think, from 1956.
It was his father’s, and now it’s being serviced.
The “orologiaio” fell in love with it the minute he saw it.
I asked him if the watch could be brought back to life, and, if so, to give me a quote what the service costs would be.
When I got back to him, a few days later, he told me that he had already ordered the replacement parts, because even if I had said “no I don’t want it serviced” he would’ve found a way to make me change my mind… Or to try to buy the watch off of me, because a thing of such beauty deserved to be seen in the world and not be hidden in a drawer!
And I also have the original Omega buckle; I’ll try to use it on a new strap… Maybe lizard?
Bellissimo orologio, grazie per il video!
Ciao!
I have an 8 and 3/4 inch wrist and id wear a watch like this no worries i think its so beautiful i really couldnt care less how it fills the wrist thats no reason to miss out on such a beauty
nick_o_shay kendall making watches great again my friend. my mentality exactly
Superb vintage piece & a lovely review.
Anyone can wear a 34 or 36,it's a huge mistake to dismiss the smaller case sizes...I did for years & missed out on purchasing some stunning watches.
The patina on the dial & hands on this Omega are really quite special & I hope it's a piece you keep in your collection.
I have a 1960s Vostok dress watch with a very very similar case design which makes me wonder if some Soviet mischief took place regarding copying the design...all is forgiven as Vostok included a screw-in case back with an extra large gasket to improve water resistance!!
Bon Chance TGV!
Recently got myself a Seamaster 1961 for about the same price. Amazing. Get them while you can.
Hi. Thanls.
If it's online or in person, used, how would you know if they didn't changed the parts and if all the parts are original?
Not all have the glass case back. How about if it doesn't have the original strap/bracelet?
Thank you. God bless, Proverbs 31
Amazing intro! love the scenery and music.
I was lucky to win a satin dial Genéve on eBay last week for a very similar price tag.
cheers from Cincinnati
D
Thank you Devin :D
Congrats on the Geneve, solid watches, such class and value for money. Enjoy!
Best regards,
TGV
Beautiful timepiece. Pure incredible.
I'm 6'0 with a fairly average wrist and I absolutely love watches 38mm and under. Currently wearing a late 40's Pierre jacquard, 33.5mm without crown and I only paid 30$ for the piece.
I really dislike crosshair dials, but I love the patina on that one. 50s vintage Omega is definitely on my wishlist.
Hi TGV
Uuuuuh, pure class. Been looking forward to the test of this watch...
Vintage watches of this age is surely, as you put it, like wearing a piece of history. Undoubtedly they were quite common back then, but each piece has it's own story to tell. The fact that there are still relatively many around tells something about the quality...
Being an Omega fan I own several of them, one of them very similar to this one. Not quite as patinaed, and with a screw down back and "Seamaster" on the dail. But the hands and markers seem very similar. And the movement is the same too, as far as I remember.
It's from 1959; my birth year. I've got something of a theme going on with these vintage pieces that way. Something to hand down to coming generations with a story to tell. I will undoubtedly go totally "Christopher Walken Pulp Fiction Style" when I get to hand them down to my grandchildren - all thought my story won't be as dramatic😆
Keep up the good work...
Excelent video TGV cheers to you! By the way, ahve you heared of nixie watches, the kind that Stephen Wozniak is known to wear? It would be very interesting to hear you talk in length about it sometime.
I would love to hear your opinion of the Bulova Accutron II Alpha with the quartz precisionist movement. I know you love the original 60's watch and I do as well, but I fear it will be a bit too small for my wrist. Clearly the new one is not as "iconic" as the original and does not carry the same sort of emotion or meaning, but I am curious as to whether or not you believe it is a good watch nonetheless and worth getting given its larger size. Love your videos, always fun and enjoyable to watch! Thank you
Amazing channel! I just got a gold plated Citized Eagle 7 Automatic with blue dial (70-80's?), for 60$! Would loved it if you had something to say about that watch :)
I also love Longines vintage watches, I have one from 1957 which runs at -2 seconds per day!
Hi TGV, is the lume on hands is radium? Is it safe to wear?
ahh what a beauty! The vintage market scares me, I'm not good at knowing what to watch out for. Enjoy in good health!
It is scary but trust me, after a while and with the right dealers it can be amazing.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Tgv I really liked the omega and I believe that the dial is a part of the watches character but is there any way that you could service the dial without getting a replacement ( you mentioned that you wanted to keep the parts original) for vintage watches. I think It would look a lot better that way.
I think the major draw for me and vintage is that they are mechanical. Slimmer and allows you, in my opinion, to look down and appreciate the watch more as you wind it. Great vid as always!
Hi Tristano,
Well played for that omega!
I got myself a JLC officer watch which should be arriving soon from pretty much the same era as your omega. I'm looking to get a lizard strap as well, what European seller that have simple lizard straps would you recommend ?
Thanks
Keep up the work
Yesss I have the same sized wrist!
