The problem with he should have just killed the joker argument is no one considers exactly how bad that would actually be. You would first have to accept the fact that the joker is somehow "special". That he wants killing more than any other villain. And the police only tolerate him because he's not dropping bodies every other day.
instead of questioning bruce's methods one should question gotham's law and how doesn't joker get a fucking death sentence after the first two times captured and put into arkham

Gonna be honest, they both have good points, I feel like joker was an obvious think that should have been done, but then you remember "wait ain't that how the batman who laughs was born"
Not every lite ration of killing the joker turns you into that creature though
I mean there's an alternative version of Injustice where Lois survives Superman's attack and Batman takes Joker away. Joker tells and laughs about how he will try doing it again and this is where Batman completely snaps and breaks his neck. After killing him he turned himself in jail, gets out after a year or so and Superman thanks him, you see his daughter and stuff...
So no it doesn't always result in BWL or him losing his shit otherwise. Afaik Batman even wanted to kill the Joker for Jason's murder but Superman was the one to stop him, so it could've been possible to kill the Joker and not end up in the wrong path.
