I recently moved my wife and 3 children to Lubbock Texas, from a long shitty life in ohio. We now live in a town outside of lubbock just about 7 miles away from Littlefield Texas where Waylon was born and raised. Thanks to my grandfather i grew up on the old/real country music. Now when i walk out into this wide open west texas field, with a cold beer in my hand and waylon singing in the background... I totally get i. Every last word!
I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma ( Porter Oklahoma ) I'm black my uncle's listened to this baling hay, plowing the fields, sitting outside watching the bon fire life was a simpler time back then
Music Row is being torched to the ground by Plastic Country. BUT there is some good folks coming up quietly but steadily. East Nashville is rising. Margo Price. Sturgil Simpson, Jayme Johnson are relatively "old style" Country. And of course Chris Stapleton.
Thanks for listing Margo Price, I haven't heard of her before but I am now a fan. Keep spreading the word getting these people heard is the only way we can save country music.
Mike Honcho I haven't really ever been a Country fan since most of what I heard was radio garbage. I did keep up with Americana music. Then I heard her on KEXP sessions and was blown away. Country can touch your soul when it is REAL.
This was my dad's song. He was a great man. Served his country and lived an honorable life but was always misunderstood. God bless his soul. I miss him.
That's why many of us don't tell our stories... Don't want to be judged by those who have no fucking clue. Our wars are our own. Our own reasons, our feelings, our decisions.
I got to see Waylon's grave. I traveled back to Mesa Az where I was born. While drinking hard I always went to this gas station.. saw this old man who plays guitar .named Richard. I always through him some bucks for buskin. I drove him around a couple times to help him out. We jammed together as well. Anyway he told me Waylon's grave was up the street ..was hard to believe until we went and he found it . Richard played with Waylon a time or 2 . Amazing story alot I'm leaving out but good lord. What a wild world. Country legend .
I grew up with a hard-working father who worked in the oilfield since I was a baby. My mother became an aggressive alcoholic narcissist and had mentally abused me for years. Now I am a married man to a woman that I've been with for 12 years now and has a beautiful daughter. if it wasn't for my 4 best friends growing up with and working with I wouldn't be leaving this comment to show and express on how much this song means to me... brotherhood. Thank you Tyler, Tanner, Lonnie, Casey. I owe you guys my life.
You know Waylon is the greatest of all time! And he said And I quote "Garth Brooks done for country music what pantyhose done for finger f:)ckin" unquote! RIP MY HERO!
WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN LOL ...REAL MEN LIKE TO SHIT WITH THE DOOR OPEN TALK ABOUT PUSSY AT THE DINER TABLE MAKE THERE OWN BEEF JERKY GO ON RIVERBOAT GAMBLING TRIPS AND LISTEN TO WAYLON FUCKING JENNINGS ....now all you ponty tail headed boys please sit the fuck down and let the real men do this shit
No Edith, real men love and respect their wives and work hard to support their families. They don't gamble away their hard earned money and talk about "pussy" at the dinner table. If that is the conversation at your dinner table you had better set a place for Donald Trump.
Hello, I am writing from Turkey. Waylon is truly incredible. I am a big fan of him and his music. He has a voice that truly touches the heart. Every time I listen to Waylon, I feel like going on a long journey leaving everyone and everything behind. I hope one day I have the courage to do this... Endless love to all true outlaws. 🖤🖤🖤
Personally I feel as an African-American musician bass player who has been familiar with country music and soul music and the Beatles my entire life I do my musical journey I personally feel that Waylon Jennings is simply the most honest righteous songwriter since the Beatles him Bill withers it you know there's certain people that stand in a different class he is there I mean you know I mean you know you get Bob Dylan you know you got Hendrix great poets and great song structures but this song is a masterpiece you can interpret it so many ways with a band this incredible the foundation is so righteous I bow down to Waylon Jennings truly added utter respect for his spirit and God bless him and his music man
I grew up my whole life looking at pictures of my dad who played a banjo and sang in a band. I never met him. He died a little bit after I was born in a plane crash while smuggling grass out of Colombia in the 70s. His body was never recovered and all I got growing up were stories and my pictures my mom had. He was from the south and for some reason I always thought of him when I ever heard Waylon, even though I never met him. Thank you Waylon. R.I.P. Carl V Harris

QUICKIRONS I agree, Country certainly isn't what it use to be. I would like to think there is hope for us though. I have been very impressed with Chris Stapleton.
this was the real Heroes damn shame everyone's gone now . I'm a Cherokee Indian an when I was comen up this was the real country now it's lost I miss the old ways of life
This native has outlaw in his blood. God it ain't always been easy especially this day in age. Just because you're an outlaw doesn't mean you're a bad person. Just because you're law doesn't mean you're a good person. To all my outlaws, standing for what you believe in. This outlaw shit
I'm not a fan of most country music, I normally just stick to heavy metal. There's just something about this older country music that I absolutely love and find some relatable. This is one of my favorite songs in the world, it just hits me down to my very core. Amazing....
It resonates with you because you're growing up.it doesn't matter if your 16 or 60 we all have growing up to do.theres so many of us out there who, when we were young men,got into all sorta outlaw shit and it DID get outta hand.this song has substance and wisdom and above all else it has soul.
I named my son River Waylon in honor of a man that's music has always been heavily influential on my life. Love all of his music but this song always spoke so many different meanings in my life.
Bonnie's are damn hard to find. It won't take long for another Clyde to come around. not that it will replace the original, but I know how us dirtbags often find temporary comfort in fleeting pleasures
I know what you mean before I joined the Army me and my ex wife were ride and together. When I went to the 3rd time she got pregnant by another man, took $70,000, the brand new car I just bought her before I left. When I came home I had nothing. I wish to God that I can find an honest, loyal woman willing to jump on the back our Harley and just ride.
My God I love this version. The original will never be duplicated but there's something about this one. It's pure haunting. How I miss real country music made by real outlaws. Long live Waylon and the rest of them that made it the best music in the world.🤘
Just lost a good buddy of 20 years. Met him around 15. We were both already troubled, and acted like it. We raised hell through our teens, 20s but my buddy never gave it up. The outlaw shit never got old to him. He fit 3 lives into 35 years. I’ll never forget him. I’ll always love him. He was a brother. I just wish I could have gotten through to him.
When a song haunts you to ur very soul, you realize the words are a reflection of ur life. Waylon even tho ur gone ur poetic words live on thru ur fans. May you and the Man in Black make heaven a more interesting place.
@@johnelljohnson9374 Being Black has nothing to do with the music that you feel compelled by, There are many Black country & western singers you can look up, and alot of mashups and musicians working together and making new genres over the years. I love Classic R & B and There are white singers that you'd swear we're black, or vice versa, it doesn't matter really, we choose what we like and live, and we should all learn about our past and music, and enjoy it all, please listen to Struggle Jennings and Caitlin song "God we need you now", he is the grandson of The late great Waylon Jennings, but sings in the genre of rap, with country )& r/b flare, It's PHENOMENAL!
Yeah I hear ya there.i cried my eyes out when I heard this song because 8d never heard my life summed up so accurately in a song meant to summ up someone else's life.i can relate to waylon Jennings.excess, misunderstood, anger, pride, ego, sorrow and finally realization. I'd give anything just to be able to sit with waylon Jennings for an hour and just chat.
Such a shame where country music is today, real country like this is what should be on our radios. Rest easy waylon, your music will never be forgotten and will remain the definition of country music for all eternity.
Once again I want to say thank you to country music they're giving me some of the best times of my life that's where I listen to my country music at as a teenager for their memories I'll never forget from Southern Indiana we still set around the parking lots and listen to the good old country music thank God for The Highwaymen were they are number one on our list for they are true heroes and we all love them so thank you for listening to me I might not say it good enough but I say it God Bless The Highwaymen
I'll tell you a story. We were sitting around 1 night at my buddies house and I was telling someone how a fight started in a bar once. My buddies 16 year old brother looks at me and says "you're a bit older than me. Don't you think you should be a good role model and not talk about what happens in the bar?" I looked at him and was serious when I said it, but I said "I think I'm being a pretty good role model. When have you ever heard any of my stories from the bar that ended good?" he laughed and said point taken. Moral of the story is that with this old country music, they tell a story. Not all stories have happy endings but there's a lesson to be learned. Sometimes it's, don't follow in my footsteps
As a kid I grew up in Foster homes and boys homes i would run away never fitting in..never wanting to follow the rules or obey law always considered myself an outlaw Those outlaw ways got me 10 years in prison.. now I'm a law abiding citizen and how I missed those old days
Sometimes you gotta hit or get near the bottom to realize how good things are. Be glad you made it through. Don't regret those life lessons. Hope you found God in the process.

Wish i had more time with him love you Grampa Floyd.

I'm from Spain. I discovered this song today but I should have discover it years ago. I love that amazing song. Great Waylon.
Much love from 🇺🇸!
Look up The Highwaymen. It’s Waylon Jennings,Kris Kristopherson,Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash🥃
@@FleetwoodCaddy59 I listened Higwaymen shortly after Outlaw shit. But thanks anyway. Its a great song too. I love that music.
I also like the cover that the White Buffalo did.
God I miss real country... Extremely tired of what passes as country now days... Murder On Music Row
James Angelo amen
James Angelo I miss the highwaymen😢
This was my dad's song. He was a great man. Served his country and lived an honorable life but was always misunderstood. God bless his soul. I miss him.
Sorry to hear that but u will see him again it's hard I have done been there
That's why many of us don't tell our stories...

Thank you for sharing 😊🙏
You know Waylon is the greatest of all time! And he said And I quote "Garth Brooks done for country music what pantyhose done for finger f:)ckin" unquote! RIP MY HERO!
Garth WHO? lol
That is fucking brilliant!!! Thanks for sharing.

Nobody can hold a candle to Waylon. Nobody.
damn straight
maybe you should read the hag's life story, Waylon was a music outlaw but no one in country music lived a life like Merle. rip to both

Hank Williams was the best in my opinion, but Waylon is up there that's for sure
Hank III is closest of this generation! He does his forefathers proud!

Personally I feel as an African-American musician bass player who has been familiar with country music and soul music and the Beatles my entire life I do my musical journey I personally feel that Waylon Jennings is simply the most honest righteous songwriter since the Beatles him Bill withers it you know there's certain people that stand in a different class he is there I mean you know I mean you know you get Bob Dylan you know you got Hendrix great poets and great song structures but this song is a masterpiece you can interpret it so many ways with a band this incredible the foundation is so righteous I bow down to Waylon Jennings truly added utter respect for his spirit and God bless him and his music man
You have an open mind. You're a rare soul in today's world
I grew up my whole life looking at pictures of my dad who played a banjo and sang in a band.

Hello there Cindy nice meeting you here
Waylon is a legend
I'm not a fan of most country music, I normally just stick to heavy metal. There's just something about this older country music that I absolutely love and find some relatable. This is one of my favorite songs in the world, it just hits me down to my very core. Amazing....
It resonates with you because you're growing up.it doesn't matter if your 16 or 60 we all have growing up to do.theres so many of us out there who, when we were young men,got into all sorta outlaw shit and it DID get outta hand.this song has substance and wisdom and above all else it has soul.
same it’s just great song writing
Agree!
Nothing like Waylon,Merle,Johnny and Hank. Just to name a few.
Because it's REAL. Not some forced music writing from the record companies marketing fluff for a buck $
rest in peace waylon...
the best voice of country music
idk, i think my boy willie takes that one
GhOsT 420 no. Waylon. Is the voice of country.
waylon and johnny cash will forever rule this world! :D
they are our true inspiration to a life with understanding!
Couldn't agree more brother!
Annette Stinnett it's ok. i respect your opinion.
Named my son Waylon. His daddy said how could you not like someone named after a legend 💙💚
Mine is as well!
I named my son River Waylon in honor of a man that's music has always been heavily influential on my life. Love all of his music but this song always spoke so many different meanings in my life.
Good name. My name is River too. 10/4/92
I like rock and metal but there’s something about Waylon and Johnny that gets me.
True outlaw's brother you can't get much better even being a HELL'S ANGEL 🤘☝️
They were the outlaws doing it their way .
Same but add Hank Jr and David Allan Coe. I’m a metal head for the 90s thrash and groove bands like Pantera but old country just gets me
I'm right there with ya brother 🤘🏻🍻
hear ya there brother.love my metal, but this shit is the real deal too right!?
Sounds like an apology, should be an anthem....outlaw woman here, lost my outlaw man.....trying to recover from loss got in deeper...

Bonnie's are damn hard to find. It won't take long for another Clyde to come around. not that it will replace the original, but I know how us dirtbags often find temporary comfort in fleeting pleasures
Keep fighting Amy, respect and love from WA state
I know what you mean before I joined the Army me and my ex wife were ride and together. When I went to the 3rd time she got pregnant by another man, took $70,000, the brand new car I just bought her before I left. When I came home I had nothing. I wish to God that I can find an honest, loyal woman willing to jump on the back our Harley and just ride.
Respect
My God I love this version. The original will never be duplicated but there's something about this one. It's pure haunting. How I miss real country music made by real outlaws. Long live Waylon and the rest of them that made it the best music in the world.🤘
Hello Casey, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the Virus?

I'm black and never really liked country music but right now I'm listening to this song with tears in my eyes but FACTS
You definitely said that. Very few words can hold the same weight.
No one loves Waylon more n me, but he didn't write this.
There's more of them out there. We just have to support them. Jamey Johnson, Sturgil Simpson, Colter Wall, etc. May it never die!!!
Chris Stapleton, Cody Jinks, White Morgan, Tyler Childers.... It's not dead by a long shot.
Gotta keep her breathing.
Wish I could could hit like on your comment a million times brother!!!
Angry johnny.
Unfortunately they all fall into the mainstream country they realize that is what they have to do to keep up with the way things are.
Don’t forget Cody jinks

I'm 14 years old, and I past up the rap fad my friends are in and went to this stuff.
smart
Good Kid, Listen to music with soul in it.
You did good!!! Listen to the lyrics. Nothing but good advice
The smartest thing i'v ever heard from a 14 year old👍always stay true to your self kid or i should say young man.
