Corey Stuckey I know DAC has a lot of racist lyrics, but in this particular song, the phrase "working like a n****r" is actually an old saying that means "busting your butt doing hard work for little pay." It probably wasn't even intended to be racist. That's just how some people worded it back in the day.

I’m glad my father (sadly deceased going on two years March 19) introduced me to David Allen Coe’s songs. I miss listening to all the vinyl records my dad had. Very good times and best music I remember listening to, and still listen to now.
@@dragons8822 sadly no, my mom decided to be a bitch and while I was at work burned a lot of my dads belongings, or even sold them. Ultimately it’s not the items I cherish that I still have from him. It’s the memories to me that matter the most. Was I pissed to see my dads vinyl records being burned when I got back home yes I was, but they’re only items. However I did manage to save one David Allen Coe record. So that one record I have is not leaving my sight until I’m dead, but I’m glad I still have the memories.
This is heartfelt folk country. Truth is hard for everyone, but sharing your experience to prevent others from living your hell is the most noble thing you can do.

@@stephenh2319 it’s not back up though. It’s a totally redone song, the cadence with which he sings is different and the tempo is also completely different. I disagree with the use of the word, but I’m also deeply unhappy with the new version.

Damn Straight David ! My parents are from Coal mining country....West Virginia. I'm damn proud to have'em. That's a brave man there and no doubt a hard working man. Anyone that works in the mines has my respect. most of them do it without a second though but, they know it can be the end for them at any time. Takes a lot of guts!
My Grandaddy had been sayin’ “If that ain’t country, I’ll kiss your ass” for years and years before he passed away. And my Daddy. I learned those sayings and phrases for my whole 20 years of livin’. Takin’ this song off Spotify is Un-American. That phrase is to symbolize the workin’ man’s pride and describes how they work. Hard workin’ to the bone. Spotify and the Modern Country Music Industry can kiss my ass.
I met him at a dive bar in manhattan back in 2002 6 months after 9/11. My mom was a nurse who drove 8 hours after the first plane hit. To help. My brother was an iron worker who went the few weeks post 9/11 to help clean up. But me and my wife wanted to pay our respects. So we drove out and there’s a bar called “Kenny’s castaways” on bleaker st. We took our flowers and said a prayer at the site and then went bar hopping for the night. And in the corner of this five bar there he was sitting there. Bought him a drink and said hello. He was a very nice man. I’m native. Seneca to be exact. After we sat down he came over and hung out for almost a hour just BS’in. It was a night I’ll never forget.
I lost my Dad recently, one of too many children, He was a rough mechanic who worked out of our driveway and was always in a bad mood(mostly because of other people) and this song makes me feel like he's here.
David Allen coe was a bad and deeply troubled and lost person when around the time we wrote this song. The reason why this resonates with so many ppl is because of how real it is. There is no better example of that in music in my opinion. Listening to the updated version shows how far he has come as a human.

This is easily the best recording of this song, and the fact that spotify took it off because it says the n word baffles me, every rap song can say whatever they want about shooting people and blasting the n word max volume, but a 40 year old song that says it once is "bad"
Even better is how much more offensive it is if you know the original lyrics. You're basically calling black people slaves in this version, where before it was almost a compliment. But hey, this is from the same crowd that pushes "LatinX" on minorities who want nothing to do with the label but whatever.

What happened to your dads records ? didn't you keep them ?
@@dragons8822 sadly no, my mom decided to be a bitch and while I was at work burned a lot of my dads belongings, or even sold them. Ultimately it’s not the items I cherish that I still have from him. I'll tell you, if having the epitome of a spineless man be the leader for the spineless cretins, the man who participated in the problems these cucks cry bout, well if that ain't disgusting it's a damn good joke. I just hope it comes to a head while I still got energy and not decades from now. Now I'm mad again. By the way, I ain't never heard that version and never been on spotify, so thanks for the knowledge.
Stay free...to hell with safe
This very solution, alas, is one of the very things this greatest country is founded on. Too bad that the snowflakes are trying to destroy what makes this country great. They won't be happy until everyone's down on their level of incompetence.
@@stephenh2319 it’s not back up though. It’s a totally redone song, the cadence with which he sings is different and the tempo is also completely different. I disagree with the use of the word, but I’m also deeply unhappy with the new version.

David Allen coe was a bad and deeply troubled and lost person when around the time we wrote this song. The reason why this resonates with so many ppl is because of how real it is.
