Not true! She isn’t doing true ‘calligraphy’ where all your letters are made from a set off different ‘shapes’ or ‘drills’. She’s just doing hand lettering. The title is pretty misleading!😊
I can't honestly tell you how much this helped me. I watched this video about release time and now I am a calligraphy teacher at art school. Thank you ❤💚
My own calligraphy is based on a combination of book-hand, and italic. I have practiced it for years and can do it from memory without anything to look at as a guide. Many people find it to be pleasing, and appreciate having me give them gifts made in this style. On the other hand, there are lettering styles I do have to see in order to replicate them. In a book that I was using as a teaching aid, it was recommended that I practice a style like this. I've been doing calligraphy for over 30 years, and quite enjoy it. Just in the last year, I started making my own ink. When I retire from my regular job, I would like to do this to earn extra money to supplement my retirement income. My latest batch of ink is still in the works, and was made my boiling pecans to get a brown pigment. I'm adding other ingredients to darken the color. It took me 3 days to boil the pecans, and then condense down the resulting color. I still have about 3 weeks to go to mature the ink to usability, unless you want brown ink. For additional styles I like, for which I need a guide are, Celtic, and Gothic Black letter. I wish you well in your own endeavors.
This is the first video of yours I ever watched. It led me to discover lettering and journaling and now I’m looking back at it two years later with two full bullet journals and I’m so grateful for all the inspiration you’ve given me over the years! ❤️❤️ thanks Amanda!
Hilarious thing was, my friend had conveniently given me, watercolor, brush, pens for my birthday lol. I didn’t know what to do with them, but I saw people learning calligraphy, and then I suddenly realized I had them. I’m starting to learn calligraphy, and this video really helped me! Thanks.
Your line saying "thin lines in the upstroke, thick lines in the downstoke" has been the single most helpful advice I got in learning calligraphy. I pretty much went from no idea to competent from the length of this video.
What a great, thorough tutorial! We are hosting a big holiday party this weekend for my husband's work and I thought "wouldn't it be nice to have placards by each dish with pretty lettering showing the name of the dish". Then down the rabbit hole I went (and to the art store for appropriate markers). Wow. never knew how involved this was, although 5 min into your video and I'm already improving (at least enough to get me through this party!). Thank you!!
Sharon R. I’m left handed and I think that its like where all my problems start😂😂! My normal handwriting sucks , I can’t open doors with my left hand bc it feels wrong , I smudge every pen or pencil! And when I write I can’t see what I’ve written before so sometimes I write a word twice!!!!!! I swear 😂😂😂
王涛 | Are you Chinese? Sorry if this seems rude, but at my school we all have to do calligraphy with our own brushes (chinese character) and my parents won’t buy me the brushes ;(
Calligraphy is an actual talent! You are so amazing at calligraphy and billet journaling and your bullet journals are the best I’ve even seen x I’m a beginner and are researching the supplies that I will need to start a 2019 bullet journal!! xx
The first tip on upward and downward stroke was definitely helpful- I learned to do Chinese calligraphy in Korea when young but there it's done differently between horizontal and perpendicular lines. Same in Korean. So thank you 😊
Sometimes we get so into scrolling down and reading comments that we forget to thank the creator...of the video...for an amazing job done.🤔so Amanda if you're reading this, thank you much!😚
I just got the tombow fudenosuke pens and I love them! They do take some getting used to though. I had been doing fake calligraphy until now which took up so much time! So I am definitely glad to have real calligraphy pens now!
featherqueen31: As someone who has a bullet journal, just because you don’t know calligraphy, doesn’t mean you can’t do it! There are so many other fonts and designs you can experiment on! You can even use highlighters, but make sure they aren’t the ones that can bleed through paper. Just get creative, after all, it is your journal!
I was really scared too because my handwriting is very ugly... But I tell you one thing: you can always make a sketch of what you want to have in your journal and then use the pen over it so you have more control. Also my solution to the handwriting problem is writing slowly and also practicing on a piece of paper before I write something down. It really helps! (And also be patient, I smudged a lot at the beginning because I wasn't patient, so waiting is a good option)
So I myself do modern calligraphy like this. I learned it from like one video about the pressure on the brush pen and other stuff, then mostly practice. And for anyone who wants to learn it but doesn't have the materials or the money to. I advice practicing with anything you use for writing such as a stationary pen. If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them. Unless ofcourse I don't know them lol

I just realized you inspired me last 2017 and I conducted my very first event for Basic Calligraphy. With the x-height and everything. Thank you! Still following you in IG. You are an inspiration! ❤️
Hi Amanda, I love your first hand lettering style here. Have you considered making up a hand lettering practice booklet using that style for beginners like me?? I am sure you would have a huge response to it!
Liz S-B A hand lettering booklet wouldn't really be a big help. The best thing to do is to practice constantly. Using a template or anything won't really help you improve. Try doing it yourself to develop your own style and write it consistently.
Hi @Jodi Truong, I definitely disagree. I have since purchased 3 workbooks from another hand lettering RUclipsr and it has been immensely helpful. It's like when we are in Primary School (I am a teacher) and learning to write... the handwriting books are essential to learn formation. Like with faux calligraphy/handlettering, it's essential to learn how to do the up and down strokes correctly. Thank you however for your response. :)

As a lefty, calligraphy is extremely difficult with a brush or brush pen. The strokes don't come natural and I usually have to sketch out the letters with a pencil and then color it in. If I use a brush pen or brush I have to turn my hand in a really weird way which usually doesn't work...

Crayola, that's why she mentioned them 😊
Try Crayola broad tip markers. You can get the same thin and thick as with a fancy brush pen by just adjusting the pressure.
You can get 12 for $5 at target
Use a Fenty Beauty eyeliner pen
You can also use regular pens for faux calligraphy!

Same):

exo_bts taesoo id have any;;-;;
wtf gave me, one hahah
Very nice and helpful video! Just a note, you pronounce Fudenosuke with each vowel (in Japanese you say them all) so it will be Foo-day-no-soo-kay (e is like along a, as in day, u is like Sue, o is also long like oh).
Me:Who needs all these different tools when you've got a black pen?
Also me: I wish I had all those things😢
Very helpful. I knew nothing about calligraphy and was gifted a kit not too long ago. After watching this video, I’m super excited to try it.
She : Expensive pens and brushers (which I had never heard never seen)
Me : Ready with 5 RS. Ball pen.
Si fail
I'm planning to make a video with the same topic but using CHEAP pens/markers instead of expensive art materials! ☺️
Haha lol

Such a great video!! You explained and showed everything so well!
What camera do you use, to get yourself in focus and the background out of focus? It looks good!
I searched for more than 15 videos but this video was helpful for me in first try I was with my word in calligraphy .
By coincidence I had all of these exact supplies 😂😂😂

I was about to go to sleep when I got the post notification for this video.... sooooo happy that you made this!! I've been practicing a lot, looking at reference photos and writing random words but watching you do it on camera is way more helpful!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Love you!! 💜💜
I can never write straight :( the word always curves downwards...
Mine mostly goes up
RULER 😁
Sometimes I like using rulers because it makes my letters flat at the bottom and it looks good 🤦😂
@@shaharunhaque6060 YES
A trick that I had used to straighten my calligraphy and not letting it go to other countries, is using ruled notebooks. This will make your calligraphy straight
@@shaharunhaque6060 why not draw a pencil line..
