  • (2006 playoffs) "The heartbreaker"
In one of the toughest losses for any Lakers fans, Kobe did all he could to help his team advance to 2nd round. He came really close after hitting one clutch shot after another. Kobe scored 50pts including a franchise record 12 in OT, but it wasn't enough that night. Remember, we were just 6 sec from an historic upset...

This has to go down as one of the most Heartbreaking loses I've experienced as a laker fan...No words.. I'm glad years after this kobe got his rings cause I was too upset. being up 3-1 and this game coming down to a rebound that we didn't get at the end to us losing this series in 7... wow I remember those hard days lol

Man all they needed was one rebound to win that game one measly rebound. That's how horrible his teammates was they couldn't even get that last rebound to help Kobe win that series. Kobe would have gotten the MVP if they had beaten the suns. We would have breezed by the clippers and who knows what could have happened in the WCF vs Dallas. The way Kobe carried this 2006 team is so underrated had they been in the weak Eastern conference Kobe would have averaged 40 pts that year.

Truely a remarkable playoff performance and that shot he Kobey created @ 7:37 is simple BANANAS! I beleive that this era of his career was simply his peak where he exceled to another dimension in which he came the closest to matching Michael and even superceding. This cemented his greateness as an all time great & definitaly within the top 10 of all time with the lights of Michael, Isaish Thomas, Magic, Shaq, Hakeem Alajawane, Barkley, Bird, Pippen, docter "J", Wilt Chamberlian. In my opinion.

Kobe was amazing in this game, when Tim Thomas hit that 3 I was so fucking mad, i knew we had just lost a great opportunity. The Suns had a much much better team at the time but Kobe kept fighting and believing that's why Kobe is so special, he never gives up.

This is not the only year Kobe got robbed of the MVP award. All through out his career, Kobe was always on a bad position, but he still managed to win though. This series just solidifies how great Kobe is, imagine this Lakers roster with Smush parker as your 3rd option, c'mon. If Kobe only had a better team on his career, he would've won 6 titles by now.

    Kobe Bryant in 2005-2006:
    • Averaged 35.4 ppg with a 28.0 PER
    • Scored 81 points in a game that needed his scoring output.
    • Scored 62 points in 3 Quarters and outscored the whole Mavs team (NBA FINALIST).
    • Scored 55 points in a quarter in the modern era and in a low pace league before the prominence of the 3PT shot (at least how it is today).
    • January: 43.4 ppg on 47/39/89
    • April: 41.6 ppg on 50/41/82
    • Despite dropping a 3-1 lead over the Suns, Bryant’s Lakers wont suppose even get a game out of them.
    • Bryant scored 50 in a game and lost because the Lakers couldn’t hold a rebound.
    • Bryant averaged 28/6/5 on 50/40/77 in the Suns series.

A playoff team that starts Smush Parker and Kwame Brown, just think about that for a moment. Management failed and wasted two years of Kobe’s athletic prime. This kind of mismanagement is pretty much unheard of for an NBA Legend.

Kobe literally did everything he could to win that game. He made SHOTS and played aggressive defense. This team was just too incompetent and lacked any real experience other than Kobe. If he only played on teams with better talent he would have won a lot more. In the end I think Kobe will win 6.

  • @thiennguyenX2

@18brandon92 "he was a more effective player"
    Certainly true.
04' Pistons winning. Throwing in old Payton and Malone out of the blue to mess with the defense/offense - KB didn't change, the entire team dynamic did.
LBJ being closer. Meh. Statistically, sure. Lets see how he does this year, maybe when Duncan, KB, Nash, Celtics, etc. get even old(er) and retire then he'll win his string of rings. He had a sub-par run this post-season though. Gonna be a fun couple of years, these next few.

Lakers match up better against the suns than in years past. Most of everyone agrees the Lakers have always been better defensively...and our offense it catching up. @18brandon92 Kobe was one of the two (along with KG) 18 year old rookies this league has ever had.
Can you look at his first 3 seasons? Oh right, mandatory benching at that time, they had no college experience and were thought to be unfit to play + Lakers already had a star guard (Van Exel). KB pioneered what LBJ then was allowed to do. Remove those outlier* seasons if you're truly interested in career performances. KB's PPG career is 28 not 25.
So ignorant of the history of this game.

Old Payton and old, injured Malone played a big part, but KB outside of one game had a terrible series. Shaq was the most efficient player on the court, while KB continued to gun it up.
LBJ at his best has been just as effective statistically as MJ. He's just not finished product yet, although him ever coming through at the end isnt promised. I will say that Kobe entertains me just as much as Mike did though cause he makes shots noone has ever even dreamed of taking late in postseason games.
